9 pointsI'm trying to stop, really I am, haven't bought anything in like almost 3 weeks except the C175 a few days ago. Guy calls me Tuesday evening and has 3, a 953 that runs with a deck, a C105 that ran this past Spring with a deck, and a 653 with the motor off and no hood, and an extra deck. He says he also has quite a few parts in with the deal which was very good but I was really trying not to buy more. Well Sandra says she wants the 653 so I call back and as him what the least is he will take. He comes back really good and says he'll throw in 4 extra engines, every part he has, some extra tires + wheels, and a Wheel Horse Radio that his uncle bought new, and it works... What would you do.

8 pointsI looked up the model on this site and appears to be a 1974 C-162 with the 16hp Tecumseh engine. My 9 year grandson mulched some leaves with it this afternoon. I plan to use this one for grass cutting duties.

5 pointsWell, like Ken 's wife my little woman here also has no interest whatsoever in tractors or understands my obsession with them. So as not to upset her over them, I "sort" of kept them hidden around the property over the years always making sure that only two that she knows were ever exposed . Since all are red and round hoods with one exception it has been kind of easy since she pays no mind to them . This strategy worked until last summer when we had some company over and were outside enjoying the day and I asked someone to go to the main shed and get a small bag of charcoal there. Within seconds I realized my mistake but it was too late. Shed door opens( garage door fully exposing interior) and there they are most of them, enjoying the newly found daylight. Someone goes, Wow! She looks , squints , turns to me and really loud in front of everyone goes " exactly how many f......g tractors do you have? Now everyone is silent looking at me as I am still trying to scrape my nuts off the floor. So full disclosure was on order and I told her only 8 with enough parts to make three more . So she shakes her head in disbelief and walks away saying that I had a problem. The good thing about this whole event was that everybody went on a tractor ride since there were enough for everyone. Now every time she sees one outside she always asks if that's a new one.

4 pointsHere is the update as of this morning... I hope to dig the trench for the electrical between today and tomorrow. Tomorrow I am suppose to take delivery of the correct ridge cap for the standing seam metal and a few other roof detail pieces so I can finish that up. The guys will be back to hang the front door and build the bench inside. I set up a meeting with a wood stove installer to confirm the best way to do the install of the piping and location of the stove. I want to make sure it is right for sure. Lastly, the crew who will be building the rockwall in front and side will be out at some point next week to start.

3 pointsSeeing so many of the good artistic or Wheel Horse themed pictures that have been put up in the I thought it might be fun to have an artistic picture thread. I know I've seen some clever photographers out there who capture fantastic moments in time. Let's see them! Members... if you like what you see, be sure to let the poster know by hitting the old "Like This" button over here on the right! I'll even get it started.... I don't have anything as fancy as Craig, but I really liked this wintery scene I took several years ago.

3 pointsIve been at it nearly 39 years, After working a for my local County for nearly 25 years of that, And before as an HVAC Contractor for 10 years. I have decided that there is more to life than working.... Or at least at this point I think there is. watching family members die early a few years back and a sibling who drew (5) S.S. Checks then gone makes you think. Retireing early doesnt happen by accident.Im 57 and retireing before the age of 62 is almost unheard of these days, A friend of mine who guided me to this Told Meand said... Bob people dont plan to fail, "They Fail To Plan" I followed all of his advice, and here I am today. The 12th of Dec is my last day, I have A PLAN, And I have set Sail, but Im SAILING in unchartered waters.... Well Me and my first mate Capt'n Morgan Wish me Luck! ~Duke

3 pointsThanks for the reply's. My 854 only pulls light duty, no plowing, mowing or heavy lifting. Her future is one of leisure. I figure after 50 years it's time for some R&R. Without access to a welder I plan on bolting in the plate and adding a support from the bottom of the tranny plate up to the frame like PaulC did with his. Thanks everyone.

3 pointsHere's a source list of Ethanol-Free Gas Stations: http://pure-gas.org/ List is not complete, just the larger Gas Stations. Here in Michigan, most all Marinas along the Great Lakes sell 'regular gas' for the larger boats, but legally will only pump it into the actual boat gas tanks, not portable gas cans. Some small airports have regular gas too, but it usually costs $1-2 more.

3 pointsJust ironic how many folks have problems using that "crap" in their small engines and how few people have no problem what so ever processing that same crap (alcohol) thru their small intestines. Go figure.

3 pointsWoW thanks Guys! And a special to Anglo Richard, Frank, Dino Steve, Jim D, Racin Bob, Bob Maynard, Jerry for Voting and letting me in the Club! 2 pointsPaul, id be interested in any of the measurements you have for the oem tall chute as i plan to keep it around the same size. can't or won't buy one, so will make one....... as far as the scraper goes, see pics below..... Cod, i will keep an eye out for the height adjustment. i had to do a fair bit of bending on mine to make it work half reasonable. would have rather done the skids, but I've put enough time into this shell already, and its probably going to get replaced down the road if and when i pick up a nice shell.... heres a few pics, made up the scraper and painted it along with the shell and height adjuster/auger shaft today. and the last one is all the red stuff currently done. now, its time to get chute fabricatin'..........

2 pointsMy wife what can I say other than shes amazing. Not just my wife but my best friend she grew up on a farm and is right at home with tractors of any shape and size she accompanies me on all of my tractor rustling and goes too all the tractor shows I attend. She makes reproduction seat covers for me and too sell. She will sit under our canopy at the shows and talk tractors to anyone who stops by. she has never complained or asked me why I am buying this although sometimes I wish she would then maybe I wouldn't have 45+ tractors sitting around. Those of you who have been lucky enough to meet her know shes a keeper and I wouldn't trade her for a dog that could hunt Brian

2 pointsI have no opinion on the "how bad gasoline is these days" conversation. BUT that article did not do anything to convince me. "100s of ingredients" in gasoline??? Sure distilled crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons but that is a single ingredient. My reading of this article struck me as a sales pitch disguised with a little bit of chemistry.
-
2 pointshere is a C120 i got for my great grandson. he is only 4 years old now. hopefully they won't outlaw gasoline before he can ride it. just did a tranny swap because some PO welded the hubs to the axles. how would you change an axle seal with that setup? also in the pics is my 414-8 going to their winter storage home. (a friend's garage). hope you guys like the pics. mike in mass.

2 pointsIn the past few weeks I have thrown my two cents into other posts concerning the troubleshooting and repair of indicator lites on some 300 and 400 series tractors. Well, now its time for me to put my money where my mouth is .... just bought a 416-8 over the weekend and you guessed it - all indicator lites are nonfunctional and of course all the safety switches have been bypassed So maybe we can all learn a little more about the electrics / electronics of some of the 1980's wheel horse models. this is what we start with closeup of the molex connector wiring area and of course the test lite switch has also left the building a long time ago removing the screws that hold the indicator board to the dash panel revels the front of the indicator board both the front and rear surfaces of the circuit board are coated with a green colored silicone like "mat" which shown here is starting to peel away from the indicator lamp area - guess where the corrosion is going to be !! lets pull the circuit board away from its connector and take a closer look at the solder plated copper connector contacts - not looking too good further inspection of the board can be made by "peellng" the silicone mat off both sides of the circuit board a view of the component side of the board all cleaned up In the next few days, I will post closeup photos of the corrosion on the wiring side of the circuit board. Counting all cold solder joints, totally eroded traces and cracked traces, there are about 12 spots on the pc board that could cause failures of one type or another. From an initial look see - there are probably less than $5.00 worth of individual components on this circuit board. It is not too far to believe these circuit boards could be repaired by anyone who has a magnifying glass and good soldering skills. Stay tuned for Chapter 2 - starting the repair process.

2 pointsBrandon I completely agree with all 3 of these statements I only have 2 12hp tractors but I only bog down if the snow is deep and I try to have to much ground speed. I still have some work to do, I need to make the chute rotation handle prop and i got the belt on and got it running yesterday and like i thought it has quite a wobble. I will bring into work to fab up the handle prop and hopefully straighten the auger with some heat from the torch. The auger does spin like mad though so i think with good cold dry snow that chute will throw it onto my neighbors lawn across the street I will work on my wife about videoing me the first time I use but I might be on my own unless I can figure how she can do it from inside and if I were show her those videos from Rob it would not help my case . I love how she runs out of the way sacrificing the quality of the video probly thinking...."this guy is nuts why does he want me to tape him snowblowing?!?!"

2 pointsI think all you need is the oil filter adapter plate with the filter nub on it. Should be no problem finding one. I bought a remote setup for my 20 magnum on ebay so the stub/plate will go on it. I feel the same way about not having a filter. Ill see if I can find the number

2 pointsWhile e-10 gasoline here in my area is down to $2.69/gal, I just took four 5 gallon cans and two 2.5 gallon cans to my closest e-free gas station (60 mile round trip), and paid $4.39/gal.
-
2 pointsThat's not the half of it. Here's a few I show my customers all the time that insist on buying Shell or Kroger gas around here that is 15%. One article covers the manufacturers saying it will wreck engines and the other is the refiners saying the same. There are hundreds of articles like this out there. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-01-29/oil-refiners-say-higher-ethanol-blends-may-damage-engines.html http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2012/05/e15-alcohol-wreck-engines-tests-dispute-epa-growth-energy/1#.VGQBoskl-Zp

2 pointsIf he is using a 16hp tractor, it will be fine.... Those single stages really throw the snow for a single stage. I truly think it will additional height since the snow is protected those additional 16 inches....... Just make sure you have someone video taping the maiden run! Rob

2 pointsThe problem with retirement is that all your friends and family think you got nothin' to do. So it's "hey Bob, can you this", and "hey Bob, can you that"? I swear to all that's dear to me, I'm busier now than before I took the leap. Well, I guess I should say congratulations. You really did do the right thing. Dying before you get to do the fun stuff sucks!

2 pointsYeah, pretty much just an interesting picture. Think of it this way... not just a picture of a tractor that anyone walks into their driveway and takes with their phone, but something you might frame and exhibit at an art show. (you know... county fair community building style!) Maybe just a nice picture of a scene with a tractor as a part of it (like I did) or photoshop some pop art like Craig posted above, or use a photo converter to look like a sketch like nhunt did, or art deco like these from Craig that are elsewhere on the forum.... Or like this one from John in the calendar thread... see John, you're an artist and didnt' even know it. (and yes, I know you were trying to just highlight the laser engraved lug bolts... but it's the perspective of the picture... I think it has character, and I'd call it artistic.) Even just changing something to black and white can totally change the perspective... like Steve's pciture here... if you didn't know better you could easily believe that picture to be 50 years old when that car was new, hauling home a few tractors from a local country auction. I just know from these few examples... as well as many others I've seen through here over the years that there are some clever photographers in our midst, and thought it might be neat to try to get a perpetual thread going with a lot of the cool **** all in one place. Artistic can mean different things to different people.... just have fun with it... that's the point.

2 pointsSo I finally got the new Wheel weights painted and mounted. I went with the same flat black as my stack. I will post some pictures later tonight. After I make some room by moving the Lawn Ranger inside next to the dining room table.

2 pointsThe restraint was entirely 'fear of wife' induced. She left with the boys shortly after I went over there. After the long conversation I was back here typing the post. I told her about it, showed her the pictures and she said I should buy it. I'll never get women figured out. I posted it for the neighbor at $800. I won't pay that for it due to the current condition. I'm thinking maybe $400 and some of that is due to sentimental value. It will fit in the bed of my Ranger with the deck standing up next to it. The guy and his wife are really nice and have done a lot for the kids here since I'm not around. In fairness to them I want to see what happens with the ad and later this week, if there's no activity, I may discuss it with him. Oh yea, about 5 miles from here as we were arriving yesterday my wife spotted a house with 10 acres for sale. Just maybe...............................

1 pointNice, Geno! Those motors if they are K series are worth getting your hands on! I am curious though. I know that our modern tractors use resistor plugs but on a battery ignition, how does that radio sound on anything but a very close AM station? As an old AM disk Jockey, (radio personality as we liked to say), I remember the old cons of Amplitude Modulation. Signal drops on iron bridges, buzzing on almost every single transformer you pass, buzzing when you had a crack on your distributor cap, buzzing with bad damp plug wires, CB radios with guys using linear amplifiers breaking into your favorite Deep Purple song, etc etc. How about it Gumshoes? Geno? Ever have them hooked up while mowing? And yes I'm showing my age a bit! Hope this doesn't hijack your thread!
