7 pointsIve been at it nearly 39 years, After working a for my local County for nearly 25 years of that, And before as an HVAC Contractor for 10 years. I have decided that there is more to life than working.... Or at least at this point I think there is. watching family members die early a few years back and a sibling who drew (5) S.S. Checks then gone makes you think. Retireing early doesnt happen by accident.Im 57 and retireing before the age of 62 is almost unheard of these days, A friend of mine who guided me to this Told Meand said... Bob people dont plan to fail, "They Fail To Plan" I followed all of his advice, and here I am today. The 12th of Dec is my last day, I have A PLAN, And I have set Sail, but Im SAILING in unchartered waters.... Well Me and my first mate Capt'n Morgan Wish me Luck! ~Duke

5 pointsSeeing so many of the good artistic or Wheel Horse themed pictures that have been put up in the I thought it might be fun to have an artistic picture thread. I know I've seen some clever photographers out there who capture fantastic moments in time. Let's see them! Members... if you like what you see, be sure to let the poster know by hitting the old "Like This" button over here on the right! I'll even get it started.... I don't have anything as fancy as Craig, but I really liked this wintery scene I took several years ago.

5 pointsAfter emptying the muck, (I was being nice calling it that), and rinsing three times with kerosene, I now have the water and emulsified gear oil out of the tranny of the 50 dollar 310-8. I had to improvise a gas tank to run the tractor with the kerosene in the rear so I came up with a mini gas tank. Yes.....that is an Eaton 700 oil reservoir and it worked great! I thought I had thrown that little reservoir away but it was in yet another box of parts I had on a shelf. (I'm beginning to wonder about the clutter my fiance reminds about once a week)!
-
5 pointsYeah, pretty much just an interesting picture. Think of it this way... not just a picture of a tractor that anyone walks into their driveway and takes with their phone, but something you might frame and exhibit at an art show. (you know... county fair community building style!) Maybe just a nice picture of a scene with a tractor as a part of it (like I did) or photoshop some pop art like Craig posted above, or use a photo converter to look like a sketch like nhunt did, or art deco like these from Craig that are elsewhere on the forum.... Or like this one from John in the calendar thread... see John, you're an artist and didnt' even know it. (and yes, I know you were trying to just highlight the laser engraved lug bolts... but it's the perspective of the picture... I think it has character, and I'd call it artistic.) Even just changing something to black and white can totally change the perspective... like Steve's pciture here... if you didn't know better you could easily believe that picture to be 50 years old when that car was new, hauling home a few tractors from a local country auction. I just know from these few examples... as well as many others I've seen through here over the years that there are some clever photographers in our midst, and thought it might be neat to try to get a perpetual thread going with a lot of the cool **** all in one place. Artistic can mean different things to different people.... just have fun with it... that's the point.

4 pointsmy wife is not so much into the horses and thinks im waaaaaaaaaaay to into my tractors so she normally doesn't have to much to say when it comes to them. But last night when I was in the garage getting this on there she comes out to ask me to get out the grill out and start it for dinner and the first step out the door I hear.......whoa that's a really big chute!!!
-
4 pointsIf I could figure out how to do that I would have bought more tractors

3 pointsThe problem with retirement is that all your friends and family think you got nothin' to do. So it's "hey Bob, can you this", and "hey Bob, can you that"? I swear to all that's dear to me, I'm busier now than before I took the leap. Well, I guess I should say congratulations. You really did do the right thing. Dying before you get to do the fun stuff sucks!
-
3 pointsI agree some altered pictures can spoil a good picture, but its fun having a go also.
-
3 pointsStevebo don't hate me but I just had to play with the pics a little. Good looking tractors!!

3 pointsThat thing's a freakin cannon! I would be REALLY interested to see that in action... Its either going to be amazing or a total flop (cant push the snow far enough up). You will probably have to have just the right consistency of snow since it is a single stage.
-
3 pointsCongrats Duke! I hope you have a lot of time to work on the horses. I looked up my retirement portfolio and this is what it looked like..... Not happy, lol

3 pointsYes that is touching. And yes by the same token I am torn on this one. Humanity is one thing, but being saviors for the free world comes at a cost. And that cost is to the Taxpayers ( not to mention the life's that were lost and the abandoned family's it caused). We already have enough US Citizens here that were born in this country that think we owe them a living. I was self employed as an HVAC Contractor for 10 years before my present job. My next job opened my eyes to politics and many other things I see that are a waste. You see I have worked 25 years for my local County As a maintenance supervisor 22 of which I was at the Sheriff's Dept/ Jail and seen low life criminals that were on drugs before they were incarcerated getting welfare checks being brought to their cells so they could sign so their wifes and family could cash them. I don't know what the answer is I guess I am not that smart. But you know what? Neither do any of the A HOLES we have put into office either, when they are paid to figure things out so I guess I don't feel so bad! I know one thing, if any of those brothers of ours that gave their life's for this Country knew that their family's would not get benefits from Social Security because we were feeding Illegal Aliens and that has caused our own Citizens not to get fed and receive benefits because of it, they would roll over in their graves. Same goes for all the Civil War soldiers who gave their life's for freedom. I wonder what they would think if they could look back and see how things turned out? I bet they wouldn't be to happy either. I wonder if they think giving their life was worth it? The decision to go into war or at least some of the ones we have had are handled by people with hidden agendas or have something to gain, many times of which are monetary gains. When I took my oath which is as follows: "I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." I am still trying to figure out what the North Vietnamese did to our Constitution that makes me want to fight and defend it? Lets cut through the chase here, their are allot of Defense Contractors and Stock Holders of these Companies that get Rich over wars Just ask **** Cheney who was the Chairman and CEO of Halliburton Company from 1995 to 2000 before becoming Vice President. There is too much that stinks about all of this. And the problem is we have a Government that cant tell the US Citizens the truth if their life's depend on it. And thats the sad part of all of it. As I said before I don't have the answer and don't claim to, and I doubt any one else does here either. One thing for sure if any of us do, we sure as h*ll wouldn't be wasting out time on a wheel horse Forum if we were that smart or had that much clout and education. But thanks for sharing that is sad and really it is. Too dang many sad stories out there thats for sure! ~Duke

3 pointschipping in late, all our wheel horses use LED lighting. 99% of the cheap chinese manufactured LED lamps/bulbs are basically current limited by resistor. The good ones use single LED's from the likes of Cree, the cheaper ones use multiples. They generally run a couple of the LED's in series with a resistor, so you can generally see a few SMD resistors on the circuit boards. Many now include an additional 120R resistor across the terminals in order for the CANbus to see them and not detect a fault. Only the very expensive bulbs/lamps use a proper drive circuit that runs them at the exact current to get maximum lifetime. ...AC was used for lighting circuits for cost and efficiency, there's no voltage drop or cost incurred with a regulator or diode. mark

3 pointsWell gents I got the blower and EXTRA EXTRA tall chute mounted yesterday. Its rather excessive and there are things I don't like about it so I am indeed going to make a new one. I am going to keep this monster though and plan to try it out when I am bored and want to play in the snow I think I may need that phone book after all

The actual individuals who were in the war. Rob

2 pointsI love that coffee table up there, Congrats on the retirement Bob ,, now you will have the time to get into that shed& finish off the Senior
-
2 pointsWell I agree with Bod on several of the points he makes. Vietnam is a sore subject for me. I served during the war and lost several friends over there but what really turns my stomach and makes me mad as he$$ is some were taken prisoner and left there by our government to be tortured and used as slaves in rice patties. Imagine graduating high school to get drafted a few months later and end up in a make shift prison camp to be tortured and work in rice patties ( which is human and animal waste over ankle deep ) for the rest of your life. Very difficult to think about. Probably not the place to vent but that's what I think about when Vietnam comes up.
