5 pointsHi All, starting another restoration on a 58 RJ. I bought this one in the spring at mentone as a non runner, got it complete and running and then the trans leaked really bad so I took it out to rebuild it. I have since had the tranny out of it for a couple months...it turned out to need a lot of parts. I finally got it back together last weekend, then realized a sideplate was bent so it don't turn over. I did some diggging around and found a perfect set of sideplates that have no rust pitting...I am going to prime them and sand them so they are nice, so the trans is on hold for a while. Tonight I tore the tractor the rest of the way apart. It will be a easy one to restore because there is not really any rust pitting....I will not have to fill any pits, just prime and sand it...and will have to spend some time on the hood as its kind of dented up. It has an original belt guard and heat shield....it has a newer k91 on it, but I have a correct 3/4" exaust k91 with a shower cap muffler I'm going to swap for this engine off a 400. This will be a slow going project because I still have the 57 rj apart. Anyways...here is it as of tonight. Gonna start sandblasting parts tomorrow and getting them ready to be primed. Thanks, Jake

5 pointsOk...been feeling a bit under the weather lately, as some of you know. Haven't really felt much like :wh:'n around much. So I read where Geno scarfed up a 953/1054 the other day, and I thought, "ya know, cancer, smancer, I gotta get this 953 torn down before they start treating this stuff, because during recovery, it'll be a lot easier to clean parts and paint than all this nasty tear down". So, I got myself out here tonight, and got quite a bit stripped off the 953. Next I have to pull the Transaxle and hydraulics. Looks like I'm going to have to go through the hydro pump also. So here's the pics fellas! p.s....Geno doesn't have this area completely tied up and monopolized! And he's not the only one with a deep evil plan! That last pic is of a k161, with cub cadet accessories. Goina sell those accessories, and add this as number 3 to my 7hp collection! "MUWAHHAHAHA!" Lol! Trying to trade a guy out of a 68 Lawn Ranger as we speak also! :laughing-rolling:

5 pointsLet me get this straight. You tore down a completely good K-341. You are going to convert it to a Magnum style engine. You are thinking about decking the block but don't want to spend $200 for a cam grind. Frankly, and you said you wanted tips, even if it was "ugly", you are wasting your time and money. You had a perfectly good engine good for at least 20 years if taken care of and haven't got a clue about building an engine. Now you are asking for suggestuons? Next time you run across a K-341 in that kind of shape, PM me and let me get it away from you. You asked.

4 pointsWe found a forklift last night in Greenfield IN then ran an hour down to Richmond after that to pick up a 953 or 1054, whatever it is. I have all the guards and hood for the tractor along with the right wheels and tires, they're in the truck. The tractor owner also had a cool little dog to play with, my dad used to have one just like her. Can't come home without a of course. I think I will leave the forks alone, just clean them up as they are brass. Now I just have to figure out what should be red and what should be ivory on the soon to be forklift, any ideas?

3 pointsI know this is probably not the right spot to post this but thought everyone checks this fourm first, so anyway Just wanted to say what a GREAT bunch of folks we have on this site. Have been looking for parts to fix up a c-160 auto and have had tons of help from everyone on this site. Dave, Bruce, Curtis, they know who they are... have gone out of their way to help me. It is very refreshing to know there are still people in this world that want to help a stranger and in turn make a new friend. TO EVERYONE HERE A BIG THANKS !!

3 pointsI'm just glad Ohio stands between Geno and Michigan still. when he starts buying storage facilities around the country we'll all be as nervous!
-
3 pointsWhen you enter Ohio from Kentucky the sign says welcome to Ohio. We might have to change that to welcome to Ohio ( except Geno ).

2 pointsSteve and Ken, (although mostly Steve) have been harassing me to get into the old motors and boats. I was putting up a good resistance until 2 weeks ago. Ken PM'd me and asked if I was interested in a 1957 Johnson 5.5hp outboard he was putting on Craigslist. He went through it and it's all ready for the water. At the price he sold it to me for I finally couldn't resist. I posted a few days ago about the mint 1956 7.5hp Evinrude Fleetwin I picked up for a steel. Well 2 days ago Steve texted me a link for a 1957 10hp Evinrude Sportwin. He said this one would be better then the other two because the 10 horse power would be enough for the size aluminum boat i'm in the market for. I checked out the link and low and behold it was located in the exact same town in New Jersey I was heading down to the next day. A member here bought my tall chute snow blower and I was heading down to deliver it to him. I emailed the seller and asked if I could stop by and see it. I heard back from him on my way down the next day and come to find out he only lives 1.5 miles from where I was dropping of the snow blower. Needless to say we struck a deal and it ended up in the back of my truck. SO NOW I HAVE 3 VINTAGE OUTBOARD ENGINES!!!! The good thing is these take up almost no room at all. I don't think i'm going to keep all 3. I will probably sell the small Johnson and keep the other two. The 7.5 Evinrude is so clean and original I can't see selling it. So here they all are:

2 pointsWe need to establish an early warning system.... to get the word out when Geno's on the prowl. Then set, and bait the traps. Here Geno, Geno, Geno!

2 pointsFirst off why must we beat others ideas down this is a forum for help not ball busting it's just an engine nothing more. Second I think it is a creative idea and something to try. Third maybe some people like the m series with a mag and no points because that would make it easier to trouble shoot and not have to check and adjust points or worry about getting water in them. Can't wait to see this engine finished.

2 pointsI think I could make it if you made it next year... its only ~2 hrs for me. For the remainder of year I'm staying within half hour of Cincy whenever possible. (wife in hospital for pregnancy complications)... but even if you did still have it this year I could always make it to next years!

1 pointSome of you may have been following my latest 4x4, inspired by Bob Rock and a few others. It's taken a while, but today I finally fastened the tin work on and borrowed my sons C-121 hood - (sorry Ewan), its still also still 4x2 for the pics and video - I needed the tin work in place before I finished the idler and 4WD select/difflock. Seat is almost the right height, just the housing to tidy up and springs to add. and the obligatory video

1 pointI look on CL today during work...see a snowplow.....text the guy he says OK....text me at 4pm...I text him and he lives like 20 miles away....price is so low I was ashamed to offer any less. One of those, "be right there" deals....I get there (1/4 mile from the snowmobile guy Geno) and the guy is power washing it for me.... Then of course I ask....don't have that thing for the axle do you?????
-
1 pointCome on Geno! You can still make it here by 9:00am tomorrow morning! You might even be able to bring back another load of tractors!!!
-
1 pointGeno- tomorrow will be fun for sure as I will see the MOST progress out of any other day since the start.

1 pointI can see it already... Geno searches each and every state for Wheel Horse's, but it doesn't end there. I bet he has a big map of the United State's on his office wall with little red tack's stuck all over the place on the map so he can plot his next course...
-
1 pointThat's right very good bones and now you are engaged in a great , great project!

1 pointThis weeks sucks as far as Im concerned...I see everyone is picking the same exact teams which leaves me with no place to go. I'm going out on a limb and hoping my PSU Nittany Lions can pull off a major upset at home. Their defense is top ranked even though the offense plays like the high school JV team. I can only hope at this point. I feel like a shooting range with all the targets on my back. Everyone can commence the laughing now but heres my picks.... Minnesota State Golden Gophers, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State, PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS!!!!.

1 pointGeno, Just pick a date a couple of weeks out and lets see who from this area wants to get together ... Even if it's just hanging out inside your very nice shop, having lunch and shooting the bull ... still be a great way to spend a afternoon. Would keep it a weekend or two away from Turkey Day... Ooh maybe I'll do some smoked turkey ... Mmmm

1 pointDefinitely, sounds like you have an excellent candidate for a redo, with it being dressed out quite nicely with the three point, P.T.O. and turning brakes. There are more than a couple of threads on here of the "D" series resto's. The turning brake pads can be reworked, or you may be able to find a good used set {keep in mind that the pads from some of the Cub Cadet turning brakes are the same.} I have an 18 Automatic that I purchased without turning brakes, a three point hitch or a P.T.O. and found a fellow that had a D-200 with the complete 3 point set up, he only wanted $75.00 for it, or $100.00 if he helped take it off. I accepted his help and he threw in 80% of the turning brake components and all of the P.T.O. except the pulley. I found out that trying to purchase just the pulley from a complete P.T.O. was next to impossible, however I did eventually find a seller that had the entire set-up for sale and he graciously agreed to part with just the pulley. Keep us posted, and remember to include some pics along the way, Mark.

1 pointCraig don`t say that he will buy more and he will up in NY now and steal them from u. Gary....

1 pointPeople are buying ZTR's and getting rid of their tractors. Along with that they think they can sell their 520 and get a premium price for it no matter what shape it's in. Others get one from a relative and wouldn't know how to work on it. Seems this generation can't fix anything their self. They are too busy with video games , Facebook, texting, Twitter and such. Seems like there have been a lot of them showing up on here lately with new owners though. I don't have much room to talk though since I've had 5 or 6 myself and I love the fact that those valve seats pop out because that's when you can get them at a reasonable price and have the best machine you can get without spending those BIG bucks. :laughing-rofl: :laughing-rofl:

1 pointHi. I'm new to the forums. I own a D160 with 48" snowblower, 48" mower deck, 52" tiller and lawn sprayer. Recently my wife decided to build me a snow cab. (Yes, you read it right - my wife) I thought I'd share a couple of pictures here. She made the frame out of wood, which makes it very light and easily installed using only 4 bolts.
