Picked this one up a couple weeks ago at mentone from Brrly. Finally got it complete and running today. First tore it apart and power washed everything. Went through the drive system, and had to change some gaskets on the engine, and rebuild the carb. Runs pretty good now. In pretty decent original shape. Plan to leave this one as is, just straighten out the hood a little more and possibly some new decals.Still needs a few little things here and there, but is ready to take to Scotts Meet and greet this weekend.

HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF MY 1992 310-8 I BOUGHT FOR $250. IT NOW RUNS THE FLOAT WAS STUCK AND NOW RUNS LIKE A CHAMP. I REPLACED THE 25 AMP INLINE FUSE HOLDER AND HOOKED UP TO THE ORIGINAL FUSE BOX AGAIN. THE NEXT THING IS TO GET THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT AGAIN AND THEN A GOOD BATH AND POLISH, I ALREADY LISTED THE PLOW ON CRAIGSLIST FOR SALE. I WILL KEEP THE PICTURES POSTED. BOWTIE IN CENTRAL OHIO.

Just picked this up sunday afternoon, guy said it was froze up... he was right but nother alittle pb blaster didnt fix.! should fit nicely behind the new c-160.

Everything is back to perfect. I should have taken a picture but did not. The end of the shift rod and ball were perfect. No chunks missing or nothing deformed. Here is a picture of my brother test drive. BIG THANKS FELLAS! A good lesson learned. Glenn

The weather forecast is looking like another fantastic day in October at Scott's M&G !!! This is always the weekend I get to put on my winter clothes and see if it all still fits.

Wheels and decals are next. On my list of items to order: shift boot, headlamp bezels, Vinylguy decals, exhaust louvres for the muffler, surely more. I did let the grandson roll the gravel drive. He likes the ride!

Bob I have to say I feel for ya. I know you had high hopes when Hoke took over and the first year was a good one. What's happened since then is just beyond belief. Not only has he failed Michigan, he has failed the Big 10 as well. You know where my loyalty lies, but I'd never wish this kind of disaster on any Big 10 team. We want the conference to be strong, the rivalries fiercely contested and all the games hard fought and down to the wire. I looked at the video and both links you posted and I couldn't possibly agree more that Hoke's failure to pull Shane Morris should have gotten him fired in the locker room after the game. You can't coach football on this level and answer several questions about the player in the post game presser with, "I don't know". It's his job to know and protect his players from injury. Sad day in Michigan and Big Ten football. But your pork looked awesome!

Here is some ammo.................you yourself won't spend anywhere near 1200 bucks getting your 520 repaired but she wants you to spend 1200 bucks for a junk tractor that will last 3 to 5 years before it looses an engine or transmission. (6 to 8 years with good maintenance). I'll also guarantee that as soon as the warranty is up on that cheap tractor, (One Year), you'll be repairing more than pulleys. Show her the weight difference of each tractor and the weight difference of the mower deck. Show her how thin and cheaply made the MTD's are. Show her all the plastic that will fade, break or crack in a short amount of time. Show her what attachments fit your 520 verses the little pieces of tin that go with the MTD models. Show her an MTD owners forum online and let her read all the nightmares those owners post. Tell her the MTD's are for very light yard work and are nothing more than lawn mowers. Tell her how they keep changing the model years and designs where as your wheel horse from the 1990's takes attachments by Wheelhorse that were made in the 1970's clear through the middle 2000's. Or you could tell her that it is just plain cool to own a WH tractor because "IT IS OLD" and it was "MADE IN THE USA" back when quality really meant something. (And another thing I would do is not tell her when things break on your 520).

I put 16-6.50-8' Firestones on my 417-8 with forward swept axle with gear reduction. it steers so easy now it ain't even funny.. I have the receipt for 160 bucks..

Whew , all set ! Got the sled out , the old snowblower out ( oil changed etc...) , even got all the plastics off of the Renegade in preparation for the winter project . Pistons , rings overbore by .5 mm making it a 502 .

Today the 3 man crew showed up and installed the knife plates. They took a while to do as the pt sill needed to be cut out where these plates go then they needed to drill 1/2 inch holes 5 inches into the concrete to pin it with two masonry pins. They have them all installed and the upright beams in place ready to install. The bottom of the beams get cut in the middle so the knife plate will slide in and then they get pinned with 3 pins. IMO this is overkill but the problem is that in my town there is no building code for these kind of buildings so the only way they allow them is if an engineer provides a stamped drawing. This is what he wants and would not allow typical straps. The knife base sits over the bolts and the beam sits on it.

Excellent...that was your problem. The 3rd picture shows your trans in neutral now. You had the trans engaged in 2 gears at the same time. How does the shift lever look?? You were in 1st and 2nd gear at the same time.

Cool factor aside that is a lot of work for only 15 HP. But what am I talking about I still want to build up that 4 cylinder Wisconsin WH I started a few years ago and it was only 25 HP

I had a transaxle one time where the shifter itself would jump completely out of the shift forks! The forks and the ball on the end of the shifter were worn, allowing it to do so. When this would happen, it would do the same thing you are describing...

If you are stuck in 2 gears at once I think I know what is causing this. The problem is created when you shift from R or 1st to 2nd or 3rd too fast. When all is back together and you want to shift say from R to 2nd, move the shifter to neutral and hold it there for a count of about 5 before you move the shifter through the neutral gate to go to 2nd. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd or R to 1st or 1st to R is not a problem. It's when you go through the neutral gate. I had a transmission out 7 times before I realized what was happening and then I didn't fix it. I used the above method to prove my theory was correct. Next time it comes apart it will get fixed. I'll make that a separate post so it is not buried here. Garry

Have heard others state they get a spark when the ignition is turned off. Have a thought. The coil normally fires when the points open. If the wire from the coil (-) to the points or the points themselves or condenser were shorted to ground it won't fire because that is the same as the points not opening. If you interrupted the power to the coil (+) (turn key off) under this shorted condition would that not work the same as the points opening once and fire the coil once? Remove the (-) coil wire from the coil. Hook a test light to the battery (+) post. Connect the test light probe to the coil (-) wire. The light should flash as the points open and close as the engine turns over. A solid on light would indicate a short. Garry

Looks like it is in nice condition. You should get a lot of service out of it. Have you thought about listing the plow here in the classifieds? With winter coming you might find a local member who could really use it.

Ive got three 48" decks and I gave up keeping the guard on long ago -- I have a gazillion trees in my yard and its amazing how a pencil sized limb/stick can get in there and cause havoc, throw the belt, jam the tensioner, rub against the belt, etc. With the guard off I can usually just shut down and pick the stick out and go on my way, instead of heading back to the shop and remove the guard - which is a bit of a pain with the deck attached.

Enough of this chit chat ........ Get to it!!! I want to see this animal!

It is done had a ball doing it over this was a basket case of sorts nothing was working at the time of purchase I couldn't even roll it on to the trailer. I see you are a ford man so I just happen to have a ford garden tractor Manuel For tractors with Koehler engines and in the rebuild section it recommends 5 Five hours run in time to properly seat rings. And according to kohlers Manuel the first half hour should be run in with 20 non d under some load then drained and another 4 1/2 hours with 30 non d then drain again and a fresh batch of 30 non d then should be good to go I got about two dozen out here with that treatment and non smoke with non chrome And chrome rings.

Hey Bob...after you get Hoke's head on a platter...you could shrink it in that smoker and hang it from your rear view mirror in the camper. If this head is rockin'...don't come knockin'.

If the lever stays in the full down position it is in float. No down pressure. You should be fine if you just move the lever ahead a little bit. Note: I have found that when I try to raise the bucket very slowly e.g. just pulling back very slowly on the lever to avoid any jumping the bucket will settle a bit first . I asked the hydraulic repair place and they said it was normal, the valve is designed that way. You have to get adept at moving the lever fast enough to avoid the settling but slow enough to avoid jerking up....

I don't think I'd try locking a 4 pinion, you'd only be driving one side of the axle gear. With 8 pinion, you'd be at least driving the axle gear 180 degrees apart....

Had Wheel Horse stayed in business, I'm afraid the same thing would have happened for them to be able to compete in today's big box market. [emoji45]
