8 points...a recent C/L score I made in an effort to be nice to my back from now on.
-
6 pointsSo I added it to my collection. Has a nice little K-90 on it. I also picked this little guy up
-
4 pointsI had a nice 48" sd deck on it but have the same deck on my 520H. I found this 42" rd deck yesterday just in time for fall. It will be used with a lawn sweeper to help save the old back while picking up leaves this year. This tractor is among my favorites in my collection and is a everyday worker around the house.

3 pointsFrom time to time we all have entered into the discussion of "what do you use to paint with?" . Well, the Harbor Freight HVLP gun always comes up. I have said, any time they go on sale, I pick up a couple. It's easier and cheaper to just throw them away than to spend money on lacquer thinner to clean them, not to mention the time involved. This weekend Harbor Freight is having a "Yard Sale". Here is what I got. Then I presented this: So, bottom line is $9.99 less 25% = $7.49 each. I bought four of them. I had 4 coupons, and I had to go through several different registers to get my discount, but it was worth it.

3 pointsGotta love this new day and age we live in. If you want something done right you gotta do it yourself! That's why most of us are here right?

3 pointsBob, it could be worse.. Of course this isn't just the postal service's fault, but it's Gov'mt related.

3 pointsHere is a pic of the mod I made to my 520s seat. I also removed the coil springs and the slider, then added big rubber bumpers made from an old bow roller off a boat trailer. I also added a hinged 1/16" thick plate to cover the holes in the seat pan. This keeps the grass out and also acts as a reinforcing plate for the bumpers to rest on. This arrangement is very stable.

2 pointsNot long ago, I sent a 1st class envelope from my house to a town 10 miles away, and it took 5 days. Last week I mailed a part in a padded envelope to one of our members in the UK and it only took 4 days. Someone needs to explain that. [emoji398]

2 pointsI would loosen the bolts in the head and put it just like it was. I wouldn't tell them that I did anything or they may blame it on you.

2 pointsif the belt is longer than before by 1/4" the belt profile probably isn't allowing the belt and/or pulleys to slip enough when the clutch is pushed in. either the belt isn't slipping enough on the engine pulley and is still moving when the clutch is in, or any belt fingers or the belt cover isn't positioned properly. for the gears to be grinding you still have movement inside the transmission. all movement at the transmission pulley needs to be stopped otherwise the gears will grind. the belt guard is installed on the tractor, isn't it? without starting a debate here on oem vs aftermarket belts, i wish to say this is one of the reasons i only use oem belts. i have never had a problem when replacing belts with the same part number as originally on the tractor or application.

2 pointsI've tried every conceivable method of leaf pick up and a rear discharge deck with a lawn sweeper in tow is the best way to go.
-
2 pointsUnlike some other K series singles KT 17s do not have adjustable valves. If they are getting noisy they are probably too short and the only repair is replacement (and that is pricey). Other than losing some power I wouldn't worry too much about it.

1 pointI wanted to make my 7000th post something interesting, and actually worth talking about. But then I said nope, I'm just going to pat myself on the back and look forward to the next 7000. Thanks to the powers that be for providing this great forum for me to bloviate.

1 pointSo, I'm toolin down the road on my way home from work and not five minutes goes by and I come upon this little whoopsie... Now I can tell you they weren't doin any road work in the vicinity!! I slowed way down and grabbed my camera as with much luck it was sittin on the center console of my van. As luck would have it there wasn't anyone behind me! Some dope in an O&G uniform ?(the company that owns the truck) on the OTHER side of the road yelled at me to stop takin pictures and holding up traffic! I couldn't resist so I yelled at him Yer the one holdin up traffic Jacka$$! On the other side of the road traffic was held up at least a mile!

1 pointI've got a Simplicity that will lay down a nice stripe. But today, while mowing at my Church, I thought I'd give the Wheelhorse 520H w/ 48 inch deck a try at it. Here's what I got: Not bad for an old tractor.... ;)

1 pointJim, I don't use anything special. My old compressor is just a 6.25hp, 28 gallon, 150 psi. I use disposable moisture filters. The compressor runs a lot, but seems sufficient to power the gun.

1 pointNo race here Martin. I just happened to have my Raider apart to show the two tabs. Hopefully JEGibbs will be the winner. One other thing I do to these two tabs is to increase the bend where the belt enters and exits the tabs. Make sure they are smooth with no burrs as they will wear on the belt covering.

1 pointLast year when I was selling shifter knobs, I sold a pair to a fellow about 50 miles from me in central PA. When he didn't receive them in a timely fashion, I checked the tracking and found that they were in a post office in Honolulu, Hawaii. After a week there was no movement, so I sent out another pair. This time they went to a post office about 15 miles from the destination, turned around and went back to the air sorting center in Baltimore. From there they took another week to get to the destination. The knobs finally left Hawaii (after a nice vacation) and ultimately were delivered to the customer. He refused delivery and one day later I had them back.

1 pointMust be some good paint holding those patches on the deck. That pigeon poop poured around the edges surely isn't holding anything. The tractor doesn't look bad, but the deck repair begs to question the quality of the tractor maintenance. I would think $300-$400 if the engine starts easy and runs strong with no smoke or surging, and the tranny is strong.

1 pointIan , I thought it only right to show our American audience a pic of you standing by your doner car from which your axle Came from, as I am not sure that they would be familiar with our highly prestigious reliant three wheel limo
-
1 pointHi James, yeah it is a tad too wide, but that will soon be sorted. Another door would be handy Mark, It's a pain to have to move 2 Wh's out the shack just to get a 3rd one out! With the 6x6 finally (fingers crossed) up and running again I now have the time to really get my teeth into Project "Why Not".. I've got a busy 3 days ahead so work won't start until Tuesday but yesterday I did crack the Reliant axle open to see what was involved in the narrowing process The diff is in good condition but the bearings have seen better days and will need replacing. The actual axles are quite meaty bit's of kit's, 27mm diameter.. For some reason I was expecting them to be a little smaller (Well it is Reliant after all), so I was happy to see the actual size of the axles I don't really need to take the rear hubs off, but while the axle is apart I should really fit new hubs bearings so off the hubs must come.. Even with the brake shoes etc removed it's still going to interesting getting the axle and hub under my 10 ton press.

1 pointWow Ken, it must be National Dump Truck Screw Up Day. This one is here on Ohio 14 below an I480 bridge in Streetsboro. Looks like R.S. (republic services) is gonna be spending some bucks on a bridge..

1 pointHaha... I know right.. the garage.. The best thing though, I no longer have a wife telling me I have to do it. Just new forum friends! It never ends! And great Idea.. I do have the original manual for her too and it seems to have a great breakdown of everything. But I still plan on taking pictures of everything. And I also plan on replacing every nut, bolt, pin and rod. I am pretty lucky really. My Dad is a Master Tool and Die maker, so I have no limitations (other than his time, which is tough to get sometimes) to any small part that may need to be repaired or fabricated. Perfect Idea. Yeah your right, there really isn't and dents or anything, just a bit rusty. So I will start with pictures and some light body work just to see if we can get the red out of her.. I appreciate it so much! Thank You guys!! I will post pictures every bit of the way if you would like. AJ
-
1 pointWhere to start . Well, I'd say clean out 1/2 half of the garage and don't think about using it for the car again until next year. Take copious pictures of everything on the tractor. I mean everything. Each part, nut, bolt, pin, lever, rod, spring, wire, etc., etc. Then and only then, start taking it apart. The pictures will be your best friend when you start to put it back together.

1 pointDistracted with lots of other things at the moment, but managed a few hours with the grinder and lathe... Turning this Into this It's the front prop shaft bearing holder and flange. Still got the keyway to cut and mounting holes to do. On jollies for a week, so there will be zero progress for a while. :D
-
1 pointI got distracted momentarily and did a piece at the rear. It's the bit to mount the rear fender on and give me a top link point.
-
1 pointmanaged another afternoon yesterday - sticking with the theme of making it up as I go along, here is a quick sketch of the rear subframe that holds the transmission in place and allows it to articulate. some progress pics later when I upload from the camera

1 pointThis is not my regular grass cutting tractor. My 86 417A has a 42" deck with a blower bagger set up and does a very nice job for the time being. But I am looking for a larger home with about 1 1/2 acres, with that in mind I put together a 48" deck and wanted to try it out on some thicker grass. So I put it on my 90 520 that I re-powered with magnum 18. I took it over to my brothers last night where he had some taller grass and it did quite well. Lots of power and love the foot control I got from Matt. But this was my first time cutting grass with the gear reduction steering, and I did not like the amount of turning I had to do. The 48" deck isn't heavy enough to need the reduction, so I think I may need another tractor for this deck. This tractor was put together for my loader that I haven't put on it yet, but I wanted to put some hours on it to see how well it worked. I am happy with it and it worked great! But I noticed how much more I had to turn the wheel to turn the tractor to turn around. it is effortless, but a lot of hand over hand movement. Looks like I will need another 417A for this deck.
