All 3 tecumseh carbs I have in my parts stash have 10-32 screws to hold the air cleaner on, 1//2" long should be ample.

Well my stepmom called me and said if I wanted the rest of my dad's tractors, come get them. So needless to say you know what I did this afternoon. I know I got a 312-8 with a magnum 12 in it, think I got a c81 and not sure on the last one. It has a k241 in it. Not sure if any of the motors are original. Try to get better pics later. Ran out of light.

Get it hot, run it for at least 20 min to 30 min just warming up. Then find a tree, light pole or any immovable object. Bring motor up to power, then engage drive. If tires spin you should have a good trans. If it sits there and groans and doesn't do anything, run run run the opposite direction/ Chains look like four or six link. I'd lose those
  6. 2 points
Tires didn't look all that bad. New ones are pricey, As other have stated how does it run when heated up? Get her hot then try to push some dirt around. You are buying a basic snowplow tractor what is that worth to you? Ds are not the most efficient or easiest to use device if you want to cut grass...plus a deck will cost you more $$$. I would stay closer to 500.

I finally got a chance to rebuild a transmission with a hi/low mechanism. This is a 6 speed #5060 transmission with the 10 pinion limited slip differential. Notice the brake shaft comes out the hole closest to the axle housing. The 8 speeds brake shaft comes out of the cluster shaft hole. I did a series of videos for this thread along with some pictures. The videos are split up between different phases of rebuilding...ie...the differential, the hi/low shift mechanism, the rest of the gears 1 & 2 (my batteries died in the camera). Most of the information will be in the videos...be advised that I did some struggling while doing these videos and I left them as is because it is not always easy. Hope this helps you guys. correction... According to the manual the bolts that hold the differential together are in backwards in the video. The nuts should be on the input shaft side (right side) of the transmission. Sorry, I missed that. Just got the trans split. I use a 1" old wood chisel to start and then work the case apart with a pry bar. A couple shots after getting the case half off...trans is in neutral. The trans case works as a work bench for the differential...very cool Here is the reason the trans needed to be opened. An axle gear lost it's teeth and the pieces were lodged in the pinions. Finished and back together. The rest are the videos...1st on is the differential... Next 2 are dealing with the hi/low mechanism...1st one taking apart and the 2nd on putting together...be nice...it was my first time. Now, 2 videos putting the rest of the trans together...batteries died just before I finished the first video. Thanks for looking

I have a 520 with the Onan engine with over a 1000 hrs. on it. I just got it this spring and I've had numerous problems that I've solved, but I can't get it to run right. When I got it, it ran on one cylinder, tuned it up, didn't help. Discovered after a compression check no compression on rear cylinder. Adjusted valves and seemed to fix problem, fired on both cylinders. The carb was dirty and someone had put the float & needle valve together wrong, now it runs great for 30-45 minutes. At this point it starts to misfire on rear cylinder & won't straighten out till it cools down completely. Also, now when it starts cold it's one cylinder for a couple seconds till the other kicks in. I've read a lot of post on here about the coil, but I don't want to spend $150-200 on a coil only to find it doesn't fix the problem. Any good advice out there?

I posted a picture of what I think is a very early model this morning. Could anyone tell me something about it from the picture? I'm not so good at this and I'm not sure where this mail actually will end up. Sorry but it's a cute little tractor and it runs great.

The 60's tractors used frames like that with the older style hitch

Since i'm on vacation for the next two weeks I figure I'd better clean out the shop and garage. The shop was a disaster from the rush to get the C-160 done for the show. Seeing as my tractors live in my work shop they had to be the first things out before I could start. After having well over 60 different Wheel Horse/Pond tractors over the last 9 years I am down to just three. One from each of what I feel were the 3 best decades for the company. The 50's, 60's and 70's. And yes for those with the keen eyes that is a 61' NOS hood on my 58' RJ. The RJ's original hood is actually going to the local Tech school this year so they can fix the issues with the metal and will be placed back on the tractor when complete. I also picked up a K90 at this years show and plan on putting this tractor back to the way it left the factory. The 50's The 60's The 70's Also had out my other two toys because they needed to come out of the shop too. Not Wheel Horses but cool none the less!

These are some pics I found once. I couldn't mount one on mine as it has the easy ride seat. the seat spring tower uses the bolt holes and block the fans location.

$750 max. I don't think the snow blade is even Wheel Horse. Thats only if the hydro Is Strong. My thoughts only

Heard we are in some sort of cycle. Farmers Alamanac says another just like last year is what I've been hearing. I think T town had almost 90" of white stuff last year. I believe we have had two or three days at 90 degrees in other words Yes, a mild summer. Good looking blower, I had one and sold it because the 522xi went away so I sold the blower. Still have the 520xi with blade so it should handle it. Didn't take blade off until July 15

Awesome work guys, my C-161 has a 103916 as I've borrowed that transmission for project bendy. This transmission will be rebuilt and become the front trans for bendy. I'm sure it's more than up to the job! Mark

Glenn, I would have to agree with the estimates of the others - $500 to $600 if the hydro is strong. Personally I wouldn't want a D if it didn't have 3pt so if it is included maybe a bit more.
  26. 1 point
I second what Steve says. I think Sparky sold his absolutely mint D for like $1900. $1500 is like shooting for the moon. In these times even $1000 is high. The D160 his buddy is selling I believe he paid $500 for it. New tires all the way around is gonna run you around $300-$400 for that tractor. Between $500 and $700 is all I would go. Just my $.02

the reverse faster problem is in the adjustment. there is a few threads here on how to fine tune the hydro direction control.

I really don't think things like you're mentioned are any problem with the 4 pinion, 1" transmissions. One of my tractors up north was a 84 GT1100 (the gray ones). It was the tractor I used to push the snow off my 800' of driveway. We had some nasty snows too since we were right in the lake effect area off Lake Michigan. Since it was more fun to push snow the only time I got the 16hp out to blow it was when it was just too much. I also plowed (dirt) with it. The tiller went on the 16hp because the axle hitch was different on mine. As far as why they made them. I'd say is was just a cost thing.

Great pics of a great show Steve and Terry! David and I had a great time and enjoyed catching up with all the Red Square members in attendance. The Sycamore Show is as good as Steve says it is -that's for sure! I just got home after five days in northern Indiana and Illinois-but I need to get these posted! Here are a few of the pics I took at the show!

A Kohler sounds better?? Did you have ear muffs on? Nothing sounds better than an Onan when it's right. Of course I've only had two Onan 16's since I' ve always been partial to the 20"s.

First thing we do here is pressure wash it to death, it makes you feel better about what your working toward cause it looks better. You gotta use psychology on yourself. After this one looks like new then it's time to start on Dad's old one!

I think that everyone should get a chance to play with the detente balls and spring...push those things together and try to get a shaft by them...while sliding out an Allen wrench and keeping the setup together.

Very cool, I bet you were so siked to finally see it outside, and get to start playing with it a little. Out of curiosity, were you guys making "vroom vroom" noises when you sat behind the wheel? lol In all seriousness though, it is quite astonishing to see this, and I really enjoy watching this unfold. Keep it up!
