14 pointsokay little background first, all summer me and my son have been hearing all summer long that cub cadets are just better. We would just smile and say we have a thing for our horses plain and simple. Well the county fair always hold tractor pulls, so we thought well lets give it a shot. Me and my son went out grabed the b-80 threw some weight on her and met the neighbors at the fair for my boys first pull, well at the weigh in turned out I was about 100lbs shy and my tires well regular old ags, nothing special. The cub was up first and me n my boy watched her go we looked at each other and said "crap were in WAY over our heads" Next up was the boy , so I told him just give her all shes got and we shall see. That darned thing chugged down the tract as if out for a sunday drive, listning to the loud speaker we hear it WE beat the cub by 3 feet and place 3rd in his class at 165FT. My boys first trophy! We can now spend the rest of summer with our horses, not hearing about our belt drive "its been really quiet" I know this probably should be in pullers, but thought everyone would get a kick out of it "weve all had the cub horse debate" Thing is equal power, both twelves just us with a 100 less pounds , a LOT less money into it "nothing" and she brougt him home a trophy. I told my boy dont say anything to them about it just say good job, put the trophy up and we will let it go, enough has been said.

4 pointsSince i'm on vacation for the next two weeks I figure I'd better clean out the shop and garage. The shop was a disaster from the rush to get the C-160 done for the show. Seeing as my tractors live in my work shop they had to be the first things out before I could start. After having well over 60 different Wheel Horse/Pond tractors over the last 9 years I am down to just three. One from each of what I feel were the 3 best decades for the company. The 50's, 60's and 70's. And yes for those with the keen eyes that is a 61' NOS hood on my 58' RJ. The RJ's original hood is actually going to the local Tech school this year so they can fix the issues with the metal and will be placed back on the tractor when complete. I also picked up a K90 at this years show and plan on putting this tractor back to the way it left the factory. The 50's The 60's The 70's Also had out my other two toys because they needed to come out of the shop too. Not Wheel Horses but cool none the less!

2 pointsWell I was able to get the 416 to the house and started on the rest today. This one is going to be my Dad's new tractor. Its a 1996 416-H. Its already got its issues. I can't get it to even try to start, leaks oil like a sieve from the drain pipe. dirty as a mother. It looks like every bird in a 100 mile radius sat on it at some point over the last couple years in the barn. I see some wiring issues already. Wires missing from the hour meter and one I dont know where it goes... Got a start on replacing the Molex connector with male/female insulated sta-kons today once I couldn't get it to fire. Battery has on the charger for a couple hours and is holding 13.8 volts. We'll see how long it holds out. Got some different ideas on this one. Im going to have custom decals done that say 50th Anniversary Special Edition in the same script as the 60th anniversary ones on the 2007 315 Classic GT. Probably a big one on the hood only and maybe smaller on the center, rear fender pan. LED lights for the back, possibly for the front. Going to remove the factory manual PTO and see if I can adapt one of the electric clutches I have to the Onan. Some odds n ends here and there. Lil guy is helping me on this one. Its also going to be the first tractor I do base coat/clear coat with a spray gun instead of bombs. I hope it comes out better..... It should truly be unique for my Dad. His 12 auto is just about ready to be retired, She's almost dead..... And so it begins.....

2 pointsWhenever I have something to do and a need for special tool arises, I never hesitate to get it. Saves a lot of frustration and banged up skin. Like you said it saves a lot of time too.

2 pointsCondition is always an important factor Glenn. Another thing to remember is if you're buying a worker or a trailer queen. As workers, theres really not much as far as implements for them. A 60 rear mower from a D will fit it if theres a 3 point and PTO on the 195. They have a 2000 RPM' PTO. A regular 48 will fit underneath and theres also a 60 that was made specifically for this tractor by Ariens. Heres the catch.....they don't make it anymore, the parts are nonexistent and if you find them they're worth more than gold.It also needed a special mule drive that mounted right behind the right front tire I believe a snowplow will fit them also but I don't think a snowblower will. At least Ive never seen snowblower for them. Another thing to remember when buying a tractor to use is the PTO bell is different than anything else Wheel Horse made, its called a cone clutch. It has an angled face instead of the 2 flat faces the rest of the tractors had. It is very expensive to have redone, although I have heard you can adapt a John Deere face to fit it. My brother had 3 of them at one time. It just got to the point of weekly use to mow 6 acres at his house was too much for them to handle. He finally sold them all at a loss just to get rid of them. I saw one on Ebay that a guy wants $3600 for, with a snowplow. Its nice but in no way shape or form worth $3600 just to plow snow unless you're independently wealthy. Take it for whats its worth..they're cool but to me they're even more useless as a worker than a D series is.

2 pointsThank you, I will be letting my son read these as he is still pumped over it, but like I say no one could of seen this coming. The motor was one I found in the junkyard that we did nothing to but put gas in it and the old b-80 still had the origanal belt. I did not have the cash to set her up right for this so we took her as she sat. Personally I think she sorta knew what was up. I know its all just in fun but we were sort of taking it personaly, because of how bad the horses were talked about.

2 pointsHaving the correct tools for that type of job makes all the difference in the world... Especially when it comes to electrical. We used several different types of extraction and insertion tools when working on electrical components of the F-111. If you did not have the tools, when you headed out to the flightline, it made all the difference in the world between a 30 minute fix vs. a 3hr. hassle. Rob

1 pointI got bushings (½x5/8x¾) for the 2 cross shafts for the belt tensioner and parking brake. Had to ream the holes out to 5/8". And reduce the thickness of the bushing flange. One pic is a comparison of the one remaining original bushing and the ones I put in. Fit tight and no more slop! Now I can measure for the tension spring. 4 bushings $21 .... total now $41.00.

1 pointWhat Wheel Horse name and logo? I have 4 sets of these things and not 1 of them has a horse head emblem or Wheel Horse on them anywhere And as far as the pics, there isn't w weight on there thats a Wheel Horse factory weight. They're MTD weights Wheel horse weights look like this

1 pointFinally got them all painted up. They were all already red except for the fronts, they were black. Gonna put up pics in order, 1st - 55lbs each, 2nd - 40lbs each, 3rd - 30lbs each, 4th - front 20lbs each.

1 pointNice score, looks to be a great foundation to start a restoration with. My wife had a pretty good idea of what she was getting herself into when we got married back in 1992, I even warned her I didn't plan on changing my ways too much. I was originally in the muscle car hobby and blew thru thousands each year on my cars. In comparison these little red tractors and my boat and outboard hobby are much cheaper on the pocket book. The trick is finding a happy balance of time spent on my hobbies and time spent of the honey do list.... I think I got it figured out, 70/30 seems to keep her happy.... Life is good.

1 pointbeen a while since an update... firstly beefed up the hubs and cleaned up where they were hacked - also made them impossible to slide inwards completed the rear transmission and difflock shortened and rebushed the brake/clutch pedal made the bearing carriers for the intermediate tensioner added the final bracing on the rear subframe the pile of bits to complete the intermediate drive hopefully will get a few hours in the workshop this weekend....

1 pointThe 50th did have a GOLD horse emblem on the hood. I believe there was a small white decal just below the seat, ok right under your nuts, stating 50th anniversary. Hey If your dressing her up for dad have something custom made up. Get a little crazy with it.

1 pointMy vote was for the plain style. Just remember to cant the horse head to the left when you install it I visited his site. Very nice work. Let us know if he goes into production of wheel horse logos. For ease of installation, I'd prefer the head and wheel to be attached some how. just my $.02
