I and the wife took 83 pictures this year. I put the best ones on here. These first ones, I was walking around for a couple of hours before I realized I was at the wrong show. Actually, they were having an old car show behind the restaurant we ate at in Scotland, Pa the night before the show. Knowing we have many members here that are into these beauties, I could not pass it up. Now the WHCC show pictures. Suburban 550 (Ray), Horsefixer (Duke) and Neil (Neil) Squonk (Mike), Nylyon (Karl) and my wife Chris Squonk walking back and forth... Got to meet this guy at the show. 857 horse (Howard) from Virginia. He had a suburban that he had mounted an 8 speed tranny on. Very cool. It was great talking with you Howard. varosd (Don) and Fun Engineer (Dave) SteveBo and Dave VINYLGUY (Terry), Neil and Carolyn at the Italian Village restaurant on Thursday. That is Stromboli and Terry's and Neil's plate and a 12" Pizza for me. Huge and Delicious. Some shots of the show on Friday... Brrly1 (John) Jake and Doug Kuhn. Jake filled up their pick-up truck with all kinds of stuff. Buckrancher (Brian) with a very special T-Shirt...he said he could have sold a few of them. Don't forget to check out steve's pics WHCC 2014 - 2

I am going to organize a safety course for our younger tractor drivers, maybe have them bring their Wheel Horse that they are going drive letting them show me what they know about the tractors operation. I could check over their Wheel Horse to also make sure it is in safe operating condition. Possibly an easy test and a wrist band to show they have past. I liked the engine cackle with the decibel meter but I am still looking for a way to show the world with the web TV just how many people and Wheel Horses attend the Annual Wheel Horse Show and I have figured out a way BUT BUT BUT It will take major involvement. I was thinking of a DRIVE BY in front of the camera, not like the parade but ....... lets say we mount a camera in a stationary spot and we all just drive by the camera one Wheel Horse right after another. The time and number of Wheel Horses would really show the world that this show is big ! At the show this year Neil and I were talking about world records and maybe we should contact the Guiness Book of World records as the Annual Wheel Horse Show is the largest gathering of Wheel Horse tractors and the largest garden tractor show. As many of you know, I did a back-flip with the Commando 8 while loading it on the trailer to go to the big show. It was a very scary feeling sitting in the drivers seat, seeing the front end of the tractor coming up and over me. I remember saying to myself "this is not going to end well". I think I also said "oh poop" or something similar. Anyway, the Commando ended up on it's right side with my right leg pinned under the hood, just in front of the muffler. There were lots of dents, scrapes, and damage to the Commando, but nothing that can't be fixed before the next big show. As far as me, I suffered a 1 inch laceration just above the ankle, and various scrapes to my leg. Nothing broken, just badly bruised. Somehow, I managed to avoid hitting my head. One week later, I am on the mend nicely, and the tractor runs fine. So, the reason for this post is warn others of the dangers lurking while going up or down a ramp of any height. At the show, many asked me how I managed to flip the tractor on such a low ramp. Well here is how it happened. I was climbing the ramp in a forward direction in 1st gear. When the right rear tire hit the hinge, it began to spin. So I let the tractor drift back slightly, and tried again. Still spun. So, with the tractor in gear, I increased the throttle, depressed the clutch, let it drift to the bottom of the ramp, and when the rear tires hit pavement, my foot slipped off the clutch causing the front end, which was already at an incline, to raise up (wheelie) and flip over me. The moral to this story is DON'T drift backwards down a ramp with the transmission in a forward gear. From now on, I either back the tractor up the ramp or walk beside it.

Some of you will remember that the Tecumseh V70 engine expired on my sons ranger after 40 years. The con rod has snapped and knowing they aren't that reliable (though 40 years isn't bad) I've chosen what I trust to be a better replacement. Here's the Ranger in happier times... and now on my new Ranger maintenance station - my knees are getting too old to crawl on the floor. Parts can be stored underneath out of the way and it's on wheels here's the new Engine ready to drop in, needs the pulley swapping over and a small mod to the chassis to make it fit. I will need to change the ignition switch and fit a solenoid. At least this one has a reasonable charge stator - so we can run some lights!

Mike, no I did not get any of our pie. The Church ladies did not make any this year. Man I was really disapointed. Can we put in a request for some next year? Craig, darn right I'm one of your WH Peeps, and you are one of mine! Me and the Hooch, and my Road Dog Jay will see you next year

Bought a couple of horses several days ago and picked them up today and brought them home. Neither one runs right now and I'm not sure what is wrong with each one, but I got them reasonable and if I have to part one or the other out, I will get my money back and then some! Here are the requested pictures! 1981 C-125 (with a 14 HP Kohler Magnum transplant) 1976 C-160

You know when I was a GM mechanic for over 20 years I used to do it ( rarely ) and see others do it. Get it in your head to over complicate the problem you're trying to solve. Every service manual has trouble trees that you follow to diagnose the problem and people in a hurry like to skip steps for some reason. Human nature I guess. Of course I have seen those same manuals lead you through hours of electrical tests before they say check a certain fuse and bingo it's blown. You would think that would be one of the first steps in a logical diagnosis. So see sometimes even the book is confused. I was a shop foreman for a while and that was the first thing I told mechanics "Don't skip any steps in the trouble tree". Just a little rambling here.

My Raider 10 has been the an excellent mule tractor. It easily handles anything from a 900 pound roller to plowing snow. Interesting to know about the ignition module though. I have about a bit over $300 total invested in the tractor (including purchase two years ago) if that helps on the value.

One of my most fun moments was watching Stevebo from a distance buying out half the table at one of the vendors that just arrived Sat. morning... He was so absorbed in the deal that I snuck up right behind him and plucked a beauty of a K90 out of his trailer that he JUST purchased and hid it across the aisle, my brother and myself were giggling the whole time... When he finally finished his deal and turned around and saw his beauty of a K90 missing, well, the look of astonishment on his face was priceless! If I only had a video camera!

Tom, just thinking here and I might be way off...but if it runs best at high speed and leaks fuel after shut off, could your carb float be off adjustment and there for is dumping too much fuel or too high of a fuel level in the carburetor?

I got there late, wished I would have gotten there earlier, not sure what "magic dust" Duke was throwing there, but it looked like a flaming John Deere!

I "have this friend" that has a quad remote helicopter that has an HD camera mounted on it that does live feed or recording. If that seems like a good idea, I can probably arrange that. I'm not sure if we have ever had an aerial view

The plug should be air tight, as for the leak and only running good at high rpm's its the float not adjusted right causing it not to seat and constantly let fuel in and the low idle screw needs to be adjusted its the screw that's under the air filter. Hope this helps

We look forward to our annual red neck rodeo here in Texas. Features all brands of lawn tractors and involves water balloons, Frisbees, jousting and many other events on moving tractors. Kind of levels the playing field with our friends that think ther is nothing Like a Z turn unless you have three hands. We raise much money with many things each year and give scholarships Each year to maintain our non profit status. We are showing tractors at our local tractor supply this Sat. I really didn't want to sell my recently restored 603 at the show but once I saw this 161 8- speed I knew I had to have it. I bought it from Dale at Dale's mower service who was a vendor at the show. (he's a real nice guy) He rebuilt the engine at some point and let me tell you, it has some snot! I've owned a few C-160's and a C-161 but they pale in comparison to this one when it comes to power. When I got home I made some very minor adjustments and threw a 42 inch side discharge deck on it that I had "in stock" I thought my 417- 8 had some nut but it now seems tired in comparison! I would have liked to have kept my 603 but space is limited, besides I can put this C-161 to some good use.

Well, I am sworn to secrecy from butches ancestors that passed it onto me, You know the Hooga Booga Hoo Guys. they say it is an ancient mixture and produces BIG MEDICINE .... there are about 10 different ingredient's in the mixture and when you Gaze into the fire and drink my Apple Jack it produces a euphoria kinda like the one JimT had when he staggered away from the campfire! ~Duke

I am a believer in this - figure if a part is no longer functional I dont have anything to lose by looking into it and all to often will turn out like your situation. I recently had one of the Nelson mufflers (which I REALLY like! theyre so quiet) off a C series that had the outer shell so rusted that it had separated. So one day with some spare time I set about to make a new shell and after some piddling with some sheet metal scraps I had me a nicely rebuilt Nelson

The cool part of all of this is my boys were working with me and got to see the mechanics of this and though we've got parts that won't fit, it ain't time to set the tractor at the curb like so many folks do. Dig a little deeper and figure out (with a little Redsquare help) what's wrong and move on to the next project. All good! Thanks! Bill

Here's a little video from Saturdays very first ever WHCC crackle fest... those little red 's sure can make some noise...hit 126 on Wild Bills decimal meter. Sounded pretty good for the first time ever... so, crank up your volume, and don't forget to cover your ears.

I also want to thank Craig. Videos and pics from any garden tractor show, especially WH only shows, is a great way to promote the hobby. I would agree, youngsters must be involved in the hobby to ensure it lives on to future generations. One thing I've learned at 58 years of age is if you are over 50 and haven't grown up yet, you don't have to, ha!

I think if you go to the skf cross reference engine and input the wh numbers it will give you the skf number. let me go look...... http://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/popup_parts_lookup_457012.htm 6449 11124 ( this is the 1 1/8 seal according to the manual) doesn't come up with anything for the 5449 though...

The Hard Hat award was my creation. Me being the butt-buster that I am saw an opportunity to get 2 guys with one shot. About a year and a half ago, AMC Rules ( Craig ) got into an accident and spent many days recuperating on his couch. I was harassing him pretty good. There was a lot of construction going on at work and someone left behind a nice shiny red hard hat. A year before that stevasaurus fell out of a tree and was laid up a while. The guys later presented him with a plastic chain saw. I decided to take that hat, slap some Wheel Horse stickers and create the 1st Annual Red Square stevasaurus Award. Steve and I presented the hat to Craig last year after the group shot. This year Craig presented it to Bob after his accident loading a tractor for the show. Bob will pick next years recipient.

VOICE !!! By the end of the cruise night I could hardly talk, I guess the cool night air and whoopin' it up all night ..... wellllllll I went horse ! OK OK pun intended . The amount of Wheel Horses and people attending was unreal this year, I'm sure the tractor count was over 800. Keep in mind that quite a few people do not register their Wheel Horses . Some how Karl with his computer skills managed to siphoned just the correct amount of gas out of my Mighty Lawn Ranger Six Speed so the tractor would come to a stop during the cruise night right in front of the camera so I would have to do the Wheel Horse dance standing up on the fenders ! A THANKS to Eldon for bringing his decibel meter, we did get up to 126 decibels during the engine cackle and that was with only maybe 20% of the attending Wheel Horses participating . We will try this again. . The Friday night campfire talk ....... that ended early Saturday morning was fun, I did not get there till 11:00 pm but it did last till the am ! Neil I hope you enjoyed the show and short tour of the grounds Friday morning, I hope to make to a UK show and see your Wheel Horse, thanks for saying hi to Chris Sutton for me. If you have not yet been to the Annual Wheel Horse Show then next June you need to stop every thing else in your life AND GO ! You will not regret it. Wild and Very Tired Bill

Hey Bill, thinking about ideas for next year, I recall that during at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg, PA every January, they have full size farm tractors doing square dances. Just thinking this would be cool to see Wheel Horse garden tractors doing a square dance routine. Not sure if this would be practical, feasible or doable with a group of eight riders trying it without much if any practice. Basically, you would need eight tractors and riders who not only have some knowledge of how to "square dance" but would also be able to ride out the dance on a tractor, square dance music over the speaker system, and a someone who knows how to call a square dance. Just a thought for something else fun to do... and see at the big show.

I too had a great time. As usual got to see the usual crew from Red Square there. Unfortunately I missed the camp fire over in the woods. I really try to keep my tractors clean and spent a lot of time wiping the dust off from cruising around. I have a plan started in my head to make a trailer with a drip rail to tow around as I'm cruising and shopping. I have a nice brand new 60 gallon poly tank and an old tow behind cart that I don't use. Gravity fed it will lay down a nice light mist to stop the dirt dust from flying but not make any mud (that is as long as the WHCC allows me to do it).

Once again it was great to see all the faces behind the typing here on RedSquare. Too numerous to mention everyone. Thanks for all the well wishes on my backflip induced leg injury. Everything is healing nicely. What did I get? I got the 2nd Annual RedSquare "Stevasuarus" Award as a result of the aforementioned injury. On the other hand, I picked up a lot of miscellaneous parts, and I sold my two Lawn Rangers, and my B-100 Automatic. Here is the happy new Lawn Ranger owner.

@Gary - there were at least four different "reds" used between 1946 and now - and that doesn't include formula variance, mixing error, application technique, and difference between brands/suppliers. Modern aersol paints may be close, but none are an exact match to the actual paint used by Wheel Horse and/or Toro. (and that includes their own touch-up paint) Choosing the "proper" red for a Wheel Horse is much like throwing a hand grenade...... all you need to do is get it close.
