5 pointsWell the girlfriend came to pick me up at work since we are short a vehicle from the PA hail storm. When she drives up I see a Raider 10 in the bed of the truck! She saw me looking at it on craigslist. It was listed with a plow , blower and deck. But when I called , he said it was sold..... Turns out the person he sold it to was her . Totally through me off, Ill tell you. Not many girlfriends out there that will buy you a tractor lol. And here I thought she was thinking I had to many.... She said, I like the older ones , with the older hoods. Yours are to new looking. So then she saw an RJ today and now I guess we need one of them too . Oh well, I guess this gives me the right to buy some more . Only issues with it is, it leaks fuel out of the fuel shut off mounted on the hood stand. Only when the fuel is turned on. Can I replace seals in this or buy a new one like it to mount there or do I just have to eliminate it with a new plastic type?? Second issue is the starter went south. It flew apart on the guy she bought it from when he was starting it. Now I have broken pieces. The starter motor is good but not the gear drive bendix. Any one know where to find a starter for a 10 horse Tecumseh?? No one local has one.... I showed the starter to Bill Jenkins and he said he never saw one like it. It has a heavy cast iron mounting bracket that uses two bolts to mount to the block. He told me , it was the first time he saw one like it. Hope that's not a bad sign.... We would love to be able to take this to the tractor show this weekend in bowers pa. We did however kick start it by towing it behind the 520H and it ran and drove really nice actually. So that was a plus. Here are some pictures for you guys.....

3 pointsWell the little D 180 back hoe/ loader did an outstanding job this past weekend. I did blow two hydraulic hoses on the back hoe, but these are easily replaced. Just down the road I have a hose shop. The first hole I dug was basically for practice. I dug about a 6' diamiter by 3' down. sandy dirt littered with roots. The roots are what loaded the hoses and pressure blew. Eventually I will replace all the hoses. Next came the 75' X 18" X 3' trench. This machine worked flawless. I could not be happier. I buried a power line and a water hose to go under our drive. Ran both in 3" pipe. Next project a 10" diamiter walnut tree. Dug around the base broke all the roots, pushed over the tree. Amazing. Pulled out the trunk, cut off the stump with chainsaw. Since I was playing around, wondered how deep will this go. So, I started diggin. Fun I tell ya, plain old fun. I conservitivly measured 5' deep 10 diam. The bottom of the hole was very loose dirt. With a little more scooping, I really think 6' would be acheavable. I can't believe more back hoes are not around. Can't wait till next weekend. Playing in the sand box. lol Al

3 pointsHi All, Well I finally invested into a Wheel Horse. I had been creeping on here for a couple of months now and been trying to learn as much as I can about these machines. I had bought a little acreage and was looking for a garden tractor. Didn't want to buy anything new b/c they're all crap nowadays. I started doing a lot of research on Wheel Horses when I saw an ad on CL. This is my 520-H that I had just bought. It came with the 60" deck, single stage snow blower, chains, wheel weights, and only has 525 hours. I had bought it for $2,100. Think that was an alright deal? I was just thinking I would have spent somewhere between 2k to 3k more on something new with a snow blower and it be not as reliable as these are. I'm kind of concerned using the chains on my concrete driveway though. Anyone consider trading for the plastic ones? They're the v-bar ones know. I just love the fact when the whole block is mowing their yards and they all have the same brand and the same green color tractors, they all stare at my wheel horse. Love it! p.s. Just ordered new blades, and not trying to figure out how to remove the deck just yet. Is it possible just to lift the front end on jack stands? If so, where would be the safest place to place them on the horse? Thanks! -Gabe Lincoln, NE

3 pointsWell, it was sad to see it go.....but I sold my GT14. It needed so much work, ran like a top but looked rough, luckily enough for me a dude and his two sons bought it to fix it up, so I knew it would have a better life with them. After they left I delivered a brand new JD X320 to a family friend of ours, she had no means to get it home, NICE TRACTOR! She also bought a matching trailer, she then gave me her old 418A for free!!!! Along with 2 pics of her late Wheel Horse loving husband sitting on it the day they took delivery. She also included bill of sale, finance paperwork, and all sorts of sales literature!! I am honored to be the new owner and keep this wonderful machine in its retirement. Just wanted to share my cool story.

3 pointsoh the KT was initially frozen. I pulled plugs and poured in some blaster 2 days later she turned right over. It is missing air cleaner, coil, coil wiring, plug wires, and some odds and ends. She needs LOTS of work. The guy that let this thing get this way should be shot.

3 pointsVan, Bring it to the show and we can inspect it! (run it around)

2 pointsSnagged this tiller up today that was advertised on Craigslist. '97 36" tiller, barely used. Seller called me today to say the bracket was still attached to the tractor and today wasnt a good day to remove it. I happily brought my own tools to remove the axle hitch to make sure I got that thing today. $100!!!

Don't want to jinx myself, but with Butch showing up...I just may have a raffle tractor to bring back also. It will be good to see all of you guys again.

2 pointsI usually bring a few Motorola's, Steve and I usually go back and forth... The conversation the last few year's mostly consisted of me asking Steve if Big Whitey needed a push to help it up the hill....Now that he has his new Duramaximus his top end is unlimited...He might flex some muscle and throw me the tow rope. Last I knew Richard Rawlings (that Gaskey Monkey) was drivin the black T/A

2 pointsGabe...GOOD DEAL for sure....add Terry's new decals to it and your neighbors will really "rubberneck ya" On a 60" deck the back deck wheels remain on the ground...the hydro lift only lifts and lowers the FRONT of the deck.....I hope I never have to remove the deck because it is heavy and built like a tank....(clip a fence post with the edge of the deck , hang on, and find out) PS...forgot to say "Welcome".....and watch out for shuboxlover near ya!

2 pointsDo we use CB's? Who's gonna drive the Black TransAm?

1 pointPulled out my Dad's old BCS tiller over the weekend to finish plowing my garden. This tiller is a 735 model, is all gear drive. The handles can be rotated 180 degrees and a mower or snow thrower can be mounted. My Dad made a lot of garden with this tractor over the years, he bought it when the only rear tine tiller most were buying was Troybilt. He bought it in 1985. It has hi and low range, individual brakes on each wheel for traction and steering, as well as a differential lock. The tractor is Itialian made and has an Acme engine. As my Dad said to me when servicing this tiller prior to use, "The engine has never failed me." Really the tiller has never fail him - ever. Thought you might enjoy some info on this tiller and some pics.

1 pointFigured with less than 3 weeks to go until the show this would be a fun topic. So... what are you going to bring and what are you looking for while there? I am picking up JDog's C195. I am bringing my 520-8, original 702 with deck (so I can mow a little while there-lol) and my son's Lawn Ranger. I am looking to have a good time and not have to worry about bringing the SR. or restored 35. I also want my son to be able to drive anyone of the tractors while there and not have to worry about who will start the pull start.

1 pointDoesn't it just frost you when you see all these posts about how excited everyone is about going to the show? Well this is another year of that right? Everyone's going but me.... So you going to do what you did last year? Yeah you remember, you came here, right here to waiting anxiously for....... pictures... Yep the generous guys who take the pictures. When those first pictures start to roll in, how do ya feel? Well a little better right, but still wishing there was more so you wait for the next one and the next one..... This year in conjunction with Terry from ReDoYourHorse.com will be streaming LIVE from the show! There will be at least one web cam established at the show which will be broadcasting live right here on RedSquare the show. Miss the parade? Not this year, we'll be streaming it live to you! Now don't get too excited, this is a first time trial effort, and we'll certainly do our best to get your show urges satisfied, but it will be the first time that the WHCC show is brought to you live!

1 pointThe local paper had an Auction Listing for a property about 10 miles from me, with a bunch of tractors and attachments for sale. The auction was happening about a mile from a steel supplier I was visiting this afternoon, and I noticed there was a 1056 and an 856 listed. So I call in and take a look, the 1056 is a little ratty, but turns over freely, has a really good seat, a solid 42" deck but missing the starter generator guard. All in all, pretty much meets all the criteria of the ones I drag home. The 856 is a reasonably tidy little tractor. Complete, with a deck, a new battery and obviously has cut some grass recently. I figure that the 856 will sell pretty easily, the 1056 might go pretty cheaply. So I leave, intending to come back when the auction starts. But its a nice day, I have a bunch of stuff to do at home, I am finally down to 10 tractors in the shed, and why the hell do I need another one? So I go home, drink some cold beer, and feel really good about walking away from two tractors I wouldnt have walked away from before. Maybe I am not a horse-a-holic anymore?

1 pointFinally, worked it hard today, gave it a bath and a good rubdown and it is heading into the stable soon for a rest. This was quite an experience redoing an old horse, cost me a LOT more than I had expected, but, it is worth it, it will still be running after I am gone, LOL Still need a few decals to finish up, hope to get them soon.
-
1 pointRolf, I guess it depends on what you define the problem as. As far as I am concerned, I dont think it is a problem to own a bunch of tractors. In my current situation though, it IS a problem to buy more!!
-
1 pointI have a 420-8. It started as a 416-8 but I had it repowered with a very new 20 horse Onan. I know it doesn't count but just thought that I would throw it out there. Been thinking of have decals made for it.

1 pointIf they are the same part #, then they are the same part...and interchangeable. I would send a PM to Mike (racinfool40) and ask him...he might even have the parts you need.

1 pointI got it back together... and tilled... then the coupler between the PTO and tiller lost the ball bearings that held it in place... more fun did a video of me putting it back together and the tilling... that was fun... I first drilled and tapped it for 3/8... which was wrong... had to go and get a 7/16 tap... a note the auto-zone taps are awful... but it was the only place around... I got the pivot in... I am going to replace the clutch surfaces this year... but at least its working... After this run I swapped in a newer coil and re-gapped the points... they were way tighter then .020... maybe .015... they looked good though... You can also see in that video the level of smoking I get... a little on startup... then it clears up... on that cylinder (left side if sitting on seat) the valve cover has some oil seep on it... so I'm thinking the valves are leaking... I'm going to do a compression test next weekend... and try a leak down test... I want to get a new gasket for the valve cover before I open it up...

1 pointThat tractor is nice and your girlfriend is even nicer. I'd say she's a keeper!

1 pointIf it only lifts the front, it needs the the front deck adjusters moved up. Mine will lift off the ground when adjusted correctly. They are not easy, but I take mine off every time I cut because it will not fit in the shed with the deck on. Only 2 mor weeks of this tell I get the new house with a 24x40 pole barn! Can't wait!!!

1 pointWelcome to Horse-a-holics Anonymous! Nice looking Stallion you have there. You'll never need another garden tractor even though you'll wind up with several more..........at least! You'll laugh when you see BIG BOX thingys sittin' out, incapacitated, weathering away.

1 pointmore small parts on this morning. this is the best part of the build in my opinion. these newer tractors don't have the 'discoveries' to be found when taking them apart that the older 50s and 60s tractors do for me (other than butchering and back yard engineering.....), so the fun with the newer ones for me is putting all the finishing touches on them. i built this one as maybe Toro would have done if i was running the factory, used almost all oem parts, but assembly and colors, plating etc just a little different in some areas. i still wanted all the small stuff to be 'right', stuff like clips, etc and proper grips on the levers etc. since most of this stuff was rusty or the grips damaged or torn, i had to get new. heres some more small stuff going on the tractor. getting close now to firing that engine up for the first time since its new set of clothes...... new gas cap part number 55-3570 lift height adjustment knob and cap... lift lever handle grip and plunger cap.... tachmatic grip and rod cap..... gas shut off valve and tank grommet... j clip for throttle cable at hoodstand.... clips used for the rest of wiring harness and to hold the gas line at the seat pan support are all clip 8830. i used quite a few of these for holding wiring in other locations as well as the normal factory locations.....
