6 pointsThis week I had the honor of placing this bronze plaque for a veteran that passed away 70 years ago. What a privilege it is to watch over our local cemeteries where so many of our veterans are laid to rest.

4 pointsAs a kid growing up here in the Midwest in the 1950's Memorial Day was a great event, much more than today. Every small town in the country spent the whole day honoring the men who fought in WWII and Korea. Everyone in town would go to the cemetery for the ceremonies and bow their heads in memory for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom. Towns had parades like today but they also had a town wide picnic with games for all ages. It seems today people just go through the motions but with so many who never served the real emotion is not there. I was from that Viet Nam era where being a Veteran was not warmly greeted on the home front. The turmoil of the late 60's and early 70's changed the way some viewed Memorial Day. Thank God opinions have moderated a bit but there are many who think it's a time to protest and I'll tell you I get damned mad when I see it on my TV. Like those who stood there with signs and banners when out brave were being carried off planes to be sent to their final resting place. Luckily they are a minor group. It makes this Vet proud when you see those that come home and honored with an escort of Vets, police, relatives and even the slanted members of the news media Thank you all who have served and are continuing to guard our freedoms from those who would take them away.

2 pointsOK ... I'm sorry!!!!! I got yelled at because I had no idea how this worked. I just jumped in with both feet, and I guess I should have read a bit first. So ... I'll start over on my own post, and not trash up other guys stuff!!! Background ... in 1978, I got a new D200 for my Dad at Jacks Wheel Horse in Sarver PA. First two pics are when it was new, one nice pic, one with my big butt in the middle of it!! Over the years, it was used to mow, plow snow, and spread lots of gravel and dirt. One hell of a machine, period!! It also served Dad well as a grandchild entertainment device!! It replaced an older 6hp horse, which we worked to death. One pic here is me pulling a single plow with Dad steering , or should I say LEANING on it!! Even with all his weight that lil 6 pulled it!! So fast forward to 2014 ... I'm on a shortlist, with major coronary issues. On full disability for awhile now, just waitin for the backhoe to show up! Too much truck driver food I guess!! I decided to look for a D200 to restore. I figured I could do that at my own pace, day at a time. I found a complete, but crappy unit down in Naples FL, for way too much $$$!!! I looked at cheaper units, but when I added the cost of missing parts, this one became a much better deal. It has a mower only, big unit, guy said it's a 60, but I didn't think they put them on 200's, they were 250 only, right?? Anyway, this is gonna be a cruiser only, so at some point, I am going to sell or trade off ALL the mower parts, including the PTO, jack shaft and lift cyl, and probably the valve body as well. First step was to tear it to pieces!! Fasteners in a parts wash bin, everything else piled on shelves awaiting their turn on the wire wheel / sandblaster table!! For many years, I traveled the country, every state except AK and HI by myself, just me, my truck, and a creatively written log book!! LOL Now, I'm not about to cruise the woods alone. But wait, the D200 is a single seater!! Not no mo!! The first part of this is an 18 inch frame stretch so I can have a place for my sexy red head to sit!!! The most troubling part was how to modify the transaxle drive tubes. My buddy suggested welding hose bibs on each tube, then connecting them with soft lines. Sounds good to me!! WOW, talk about an expert welder!!! Sweet job!! So that's done, well, not the lines just yet. Have to mount the axle, and pump to get the exact length. Not much room for error, as high pressure soft lines don't bend very well!! The frame pieces should be done next week, and I can start putting it back together and get the lines made up. Now don't get in a rush, it's 92-96 deg everyday here, and the garage is usually 15-20 deg hotter than outside. Lots of sweat, lots of Gatoraide, and lots and lots of naps!!! LOL Now, I have to tell you about my first Red Square experience. I had to hacksaw the steering wheel off, so I needed a new top for the shaft. Member Bill Price from AL responded to my cry for help. He cut off an old shaft he had, and sent it, along with some other cool pieces to me FREE OF CHARGE. That's just wrong! LOL If that's the kind of people that are common on here, well, this truly is a special place. Many thanks brother!!! You get first dibs on my spare part pile, which will be pretty big!! Stay tuned!!!!

2 pointsI am having a yard sale this Saturday(already over), Sunday and Monday. There will be about 20 WH's for sale if anybody wants to stop by to buy a WH or 2, feel free to come over. A young feller stopped by and said he likes JD stuff. I told him I had one cool JD item, a 1960's Model # 50 dump cart. He said he was interested in it and he had one old WH to trade for it! I asked him what he had and he got out his trusty smart phone and showed me a pic. It was a descent looking 416H with a 2 cylinder Onan engine that runs! He asked if I had any push mowers and I showed him a new fangled Toro that is a nice one. He said he would trade the WH for the dump cart and the push mower if I would do it? I said casually, uhhh yep, I would go for that! He said he would stop by tomorrow with it. I got his number just in case! So I hope he shows up with it! I will take pics of it if he shows up. Wahoooo! Keith

2 pointsafter getting my first "big" Briggs 18 hp on the workhorse, I found out they eat starter gears like a kid eating cotton candy at the state fair! OEM is the key as they seem to be made of harder plastic.. as long as everything is aligned correctly, it should be fine. After getting an OEM gear, my Briggs starts at the slightest turn of the key. So far....!

2 pointsAt RedSquare we change the skin of the forum, at home we fly flags, and we all remember those who have fought and sacrificed their lives for us, here and around the world.

2 pointsAll done. My TSC was out of 23x9.50-12 tubes so I headed to Sears, long shot I know. Well they have nothing, so went to TSC in New Milford, CT and they had a whole bunch of them. Picked one up, stopped at Taco Bell (New Milford Taco Bell is SO much nicer than Danbury's) came home and put it in. Decided I would change the oil while I was in there and I had a oil filter (or so I thought). Emptied the oil, removed the filter, tried to put the new filter on.... guess it was the trans filter I had, cause it sure ain't an oil filter. Headed to the local auto parts store, picked up a filter and continued on. Filled it up with Synthetic blend 30W, lubed it up real good, gave it a real good cleaning and it's good to go! It'll be so nice not having to fill the tires every time I go to take it out, and I think I can get another 5 years or so out of this set so good for a while!

2 pointsWork is progressing. The chassis is completed. I am waiting on fittings for the gas line, bought a straighter saddle to install, and started stripping the hood. I need to finish this so I can get back to my non-starting 520-H. Also just like WH tractors, I have a line on another DB. Ya' can't stop at ONE! When Allstate mean't more than insurance

2 pointsKarl...we have cemeteries here where I live that have veterans graves lined up like that. All you need to do is go there and be silent for a while. If that does not affect you...well you know what I mean. I get tears in my eyes just typing this. I can't tell you how many friends I lost in the Viet Nam war...or how many came back messed up. I remember them more then just this weekend...I still see some of those that came back. They will only talk about their experience after a few beers...it is like a deep, dark secret that they keep inside and have to let out once in a while. I think that I am lucky to come through it unscathed sometimes...but, you know what, I really did not come through it unscathed. GOD BLESS ALL OF THEM AND THOSE THAT STILL SERVE!!

2 pointshi men, if you follow this forum you may recall one of the differential bolts backed out of my 416-8 tranny last winter. extensive damage resulted. i recently crated that tranny and a spare and shipped them to racinfool40/mike. i used fastenal for shipping. round trip shipping from mass. to ohio and back was $125. mike just called me and said both are totally rebuilt. i really appreciate mike doing this! his prices were reasonable. he really knows his unidrives! i would encourage anyone who needs unidrive rebuilding to contact mike. best regards mike in mass.

1 pointHere is some more pics of my custom Army Wheel Horse tractor, Model # 762. Formerly the very first 702 ever made, I added a 6 Speed High/Low tranny, hence the 762. It has alot of custom made parts on it and rare WH parts as well. Some of the features are custom front bumper with attachamatic brackets, 100 year old barn wood push pads, HL5 head lights, dual 953 tail lights, dual rear hitches, 1045 front tires and monster rear tires, NOS 701 dual belt set up and NOS 701 belt guard, Army oil can with leather strap and custom battery hold down bracket that holds the oil can, 2 grenades just in case, widened drive belt guard, new style brake band and pulley set up, step down foot rests and the Army paint and decals. I used a copper fuel line and a few brass nuts and bolts. Custom Fuse Ignitor (NOS WH Cigar Lighter) and head light switch box. A ton of work went into this tractor to make it look original. I forgot how hard it is to restore a garden tractor, especially when we started to assemble all of the parts on the tractor! It is a matter of trial and error for sure. Put a part on and take it back off. If you get parts installed in the wrong order of assembly, you have to take them back off to install some other part! It all came together late in the evening one day before the Sugar Creek Tractor Show. It was received very well at the show and made quite an impression on those who saw it. A very special thanks to my buddy Larry Packrat Eads for all of his help with fabrication and assembly! He knows his stuff for sure! I still have some paint touch up to do on it and some US Army Numbers to put on the sides of the hood. But for the most part it is finally DONE! It took more than 5 years to finish this top secret machine and now the cat, or Horse is out of the bag!

1 pointAs most know I reduced my collection down to just two tractors due to lack of space. In the last few weeks I have been selling off some other large items in my shop and garage including the loader for my John Deere. We have been also cleaning out the garage and getting rid of some bikes the kids don't use anymore and other things so now I have a lot more space. I have always liked the mid to late 70's "C" series. I created the "C-200" which has since been parted by a new owner. I always wanted a "Big Block" C-160 8 speed but could never find one around here except the one Russ sold which I should have bought. A few weeks ago a member posted a 1977 C-160 for sale and I just couldn't pass up on it. It runs great but is rusty from sitting outside. I figured I would just clean it up a little and have something I can cruise around on and not care if it sits outside. After getting it and playing around with it a little I decided that just wouldn't be good enough. I decided to look for some replacement parts for the ones that are really rust. Joe's had two that I found and really couldn't find anything else. Well while looking for parts on Ebay I came across this 1976 B-60 that I see is local and recognize the sellers screen name as a member from Redsquare. I PM'd the member and asked about buying it outright and he agrees. It just so happens that SteveBo is working 2 miles from his house and saves me the ride to go pick it up. It's a one owner tractor and came with all the original manuals and paperwork. Very clean and tight machine. The parts on the tractors are all the same and this will save me from hunting down anymore parts. So now I have a new project to work on. This is a one shot deal. I'm even going to sell the left over tractor made up of all the parts I don't use to recoup some of the monies. So here starts the rebuild!

1 pointCL find 310-8. Paid asking price of $300. Good deal in my book. Fires up fine, all gears work as hi/lo does too. Deck is quiet, belts look a lil worn, but gonna use them till they really need replaced. Need a headlight, heck don't know if they work, didn't check.... Not important.... Pics to enjoy. What year is she? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointHello people of RedSquare. I went to the Hertfordshire county show today and it got me thinking as i was walking around seeing all the big boy tractors, WERE ARE THE RED ONES! and i was really shocked to not see a single wheel horse or lawn tractor, so I'm proposing that for the next country show nearish me is the beds country show and i would really like to organise a gathering of our tractors to promote RedSquare and show off our wheel horses. Now of course i need as many people on my side as possible so i ask you guys now, who could come and display there wheel horses at either the next Bedfordshire county she or the Hertfordshire country show next year. The dates are: Beds-http://www.bedfordshirecountyshow.co.uk Herts-http://www.hertsshow.com Bucks?-http://www.buckscountyshow.co.uk Now never done this before so i have no idea how to enter for showing or if we could enter as a group? if anyone has any experience please post in hear of PM me. Thank you for helping James p.s. I know these shows aren't strictly tractor shows but wheel horses are part of agriculture and would fit in nicely in front of the big ones, also i understand it may be too far away much like the ones up north are a bit to far for me to go to right now but i might be up some time in the future, also this year i can't show my 227-5 as i have no trailer unless i get one soon. hope to see you there! here are some pics form the show, you'll see what i mean about were our horses could go (sorry about my closed eyes the sun was very bright) At least it's red

1 pointThank you to all who have served and those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.Your sacrifice could never be repaid.

1 pointI too grew up in the 1950's, and the Memorial Day parade was quite the big thing. Granted, when I was five, WWII had only been over for 10 years, so it was still fresh in the minds of our parents and relatives. Everyone then had someone who served or even died in battle. As a child, when the American flag went by, if I did not take my hat off and place my hand over my heart, I got whacked in the back of the head. The sound of a marching band and the sight of the flag being paraded down the middle of the street today still stirs a feeling in my heart, and chills run down my spine. Patriotism was instill in us as kids, but nowadays, kids are being taught something entirely different, It makes me sick. Thanks to all who made that ultimate sacrifice. I will be forever grateful.

1 pointGood luck with the Mobil 1. Personally I'd stick with the Pennzoil, I've been using it for many yrs. myself with no issues. I tried out Mobil 1 on a fleet of seven S-10's security trucks I used to maintain. These trucks ran almost 24/7 at slow speeds mostly. The oil levels were checked at least once every few days and more often than not the oil level would be down a few quarts. ( no leaks) Within a few months this was enough to convince me to switch back to Pennzoil and the dissappearing oil issues were resolved.

1 pointYes Desko, A few of them. On top of these below I ordered a bunch of little odds and ends Like a couple Qts of 600WT Gear Oil from Syders site listed below. Many of the gaskets I will have to make. http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/modelaparts ~Duke

1 pointPapasan, if you do a search of the site, in particular, the engines forum, you'll find some detailed instructions members posted on removing the top of that carb and spraying it with Seafoam cleaner. (Seafoam is what I recommend using). Also details for things to watch out for and places to really get the spray into. Here is one of the posts and I know there are a few more that show you how to do this cleanout without removing the intake manifold and carb from the engine.

1 pointTheir is absolutely nothing mare sobering than sitting up on one of the hills at Arlington National Cemetery and watching a full military funeral and then turning around and watching another one Like I had the opportunity to do in 1970, something that will stay with you forever. Thanks again to all who serve and continue to serve

1 pointOk thanks for the reply. I'm meaning more towards not making one so far but maybe in the future when i can upgrade the engine internals. Thanks you all for the help James

1 pointI have several tractors with Kohler K series engines that are in the neighborhood of 35 years old and still running smoothly and not knocking or slapping, nor are they burning oil. What's to improve on?

1 pointWhere I live is the Official U.S. Government recognized Birth Place of Memorial Day. They built a Civil War Memorial just a couple of years ago. The celebrate the next 2 weekends. Re-enactments, cannon fire, services, parades ect. They have a car show on Sunday and fill the downtown full of wheels. I used to display my tractors there but not any more. I only live 3 blocks away and would drive one down and go to get another only to come back and find out the local IH club wanted my spot and moved my stuff. I have had this done 3 yrs. in a row. Never again. I put my tractors out font of my house with a flag (or flags) planted near them. They also have a big vendor area and all of the imported junk you could find is there. I walk down and get some home made ice cream and look at the cars but's that's it. They have a parade on the 30th every year. This year I'll be home to see it.

1 pointI will never forget the first time that I visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1988. While there, I traced the names of two friends from high school - and was moved to tears. My father was a wounded veteran from WWII. My brother and I still talk about my father's silence regarding his service during the war. Only one time did he speak of the details regarding the atrocities and bloodiness he witnessed. Amen, Steve!

1 pointI also watch a ton of submarine movies...we all need to remember those that served. One of the best ways to remember the ones that did not make it back...exercise your right to vote this fall. That is the best thing you can do to remember...that is what they fought for. :flags-waveusa: :flags-waveusa:

1 pointI'd like to see this. I only know of 11 plates for the DB styled seeders. I also have one of the two wheeled units, along with one for the walker, and a 3pt one for the Suburbans.

1 pointDale, with the increase in popularity, somewhat due to this forum, there are certainly those who are in it for the money, it's not the nature of the beast, but it's human nature. We see it all the time here the sum of the parts are greater than the whole. I do however, think that there's mostly helpful individuals, here and elsewhere and I see it all the time. In one post, someone was looking for a cam insert for a Techie, a member had one and offered to send it free of charge. I'm sure that had that not been posted, there would have been 5 PM's selling the same part for $5 - $30. Whether it be Wheel Horse's or collecting Scotch (which by the way still looking to sip some Crown with ya) the "game" is driven by the times, not by how things used to be or we wish they were. You can thank places like eBay and other auctions where driving top dollar for things is part of the atmosphere. It's also why the classifieds here mention to have a price! Granted, that never stops anyone from saying "will you take x?" in a personal message. The internet is impersonal, and as such many people have been desensitized with proper interaction, but this is age old and nothing new. Now, are people in it for the help? I think so.... the most accessed place on the forum is the Wheel Horse section, where people ask questions and get answers. I know you've been frustrated with the way things have gone, and not just selling things, and we do miss seeing you around here. I am truly sorry to see any one feel this way, especially someone who I have a great deal of respect for. Edit: And I will add, the reply to your post enforces that too!

1 pointOn another thread I asked what kind of Tranny and rear end and the year I had on my senior. After much research I found that the transmission is what they call a Top Loader and the date code says its a 1934. The rear end is definitely a Model "A" as I went over to a friend of mine who has a Model A and looked it over and mine matches his. With this info in hand I can order gaskets that I need to fix the leaks. On another note, I drove over to ME Miller Tire Saturday and picked up the front and rear tires That I will be using. I had ordered a 8 X 16 Blank Rim in case the Lab Metal job didn't turn out how I wanted it to. Anyway the 8 X 16 was too wide.. I didn't realize that just because it's an 8 x 16 tire it doesn't take an 8 X 16 rim. Live and learn Well with the return shipping I would have had and the shipping of the replacement rims and the tires my shipping would have been $160.00. Well I made the trip for about $35.00 with gas and tolls. I will weld the spokes in later this week more on that later. The front tires are Firestone rib old style 4 X 12. The rears are Superstrong 8 X 16 Ags which bought out the Firestone rear molds and are making them under the Superstong name. Here is pics of the new Skins.

1 pointThanks again for all the compliments guys. Hydro 314, I'm going to try to get the time off from work and make it up there. Ian, the vids should be at the end of this post. Now bear with me as I have never videoed anything and this is from a small digital camera. So the rest of the parts are back from plating, the majority of them are for other tractors and/or projects, but some of them were for this build. Here I am filling the extra holes in the dash which won't be used and adding one for another rocker for the up/down for the plow. Here's a few pics. And here are the vids. Once again the decals, especially the dash one, really set it off. Terry does amazing work. The maiden voyage went very well, it's easy to steer, pulls strong (I did run the engine in for 18hrs as a break in prior to this) and after all the work was priceless.
