Here is a few looks of my one and only horse. I received this tractor along with a house I'm living in and it has cut a lot of grass over the years. It never had much red paint since I've known it and it had gotten to using a fair amount of oil. Last winter, I overhauled the Tecumseh HH160 engine, but didn't do anything with the rest of the tractor. This winter I decided to give it a complete refresh. Since joining REDSQUARE, I've discovered that this is a somewhat rare, love-it-or-hate-it, tractor with the ovh Tecumseh. Just my personal preference (don't flame me for this), but I kinda like this thing. Impressive power and great fuel economy, and you never have to adjust points. I started off with some new Deestone rubber. 23x10.50 in the rear and 4.00x8 tri rib in the front. Thanks to Matt (Bowtiebutler956) for pictures of his tractor and tires. It makes a perfect match on the original rims. Finally in March, I got the time to begin the teardown. No picts of the actual work, but it was hours of cleaning, sanding, priming, painting, etc. A shout out to Terry (Vinylguy) for working up a decal set. A few things were different on my early 160, but he replicated everything perfectly. Definitely a class act. A shout out to Dave Meyer (chev0545) for the absolutely mint '73 48 in. deck. It still has some original paint on the bottom. I didn't paint it, the paint is original. My old deck was very thin and warped and growing a few holes. There are a few other mods and upgrades as well, but we'll see if y'all can pick them out. More picts on that later.

Picked up 3 D250's, a really nice one, one that needs love and engine work and one for parts. These are actually the first one's I have ever seen and got all 3.

I have two announcements to make regarding moderators. First, one of our original Moderators, Stephen (Rollerman), is taking some time back in the collector ranks of the forum. Stephen has been a valuable moderator who was always professional and ethical in everything he touched. His guidance through out the years has been an inspiration to me, and his suggestions helped build the forum as it is today. I value his opinion highly and will miss the daily interaction. The door is ALWAYS open for him to return as a moderator here. Stephen, thank you for everything, from the forum to personal I truly value our friendship and all you've done. Onto the second part of the announcement. I am very pleased to announce that Scott (whfan74) will be helping keep the peace. Most, if not all of you know Scott and the amazing things he's done in everything he does. He's often featured in Lawn & Garden Tractor Magazine, is the owner of Wheel Horse Junkies on Facebook, founded a tractor program in the school where he teaches and least us forget hosts an annual event which rivals the best put together shows in the world. I have always appreciated Scott's calm approach to issues and I had the pleasure to meet him at the WHCC show in 2013. When he said "Yes" I was elated. So, Stephen, thank you so much for everything, and Scott, welcome to the Moderator team!

She breathed again today after 15 months downtime. I must admit I was apprehensive about firing it up being my first kohler rebuild and complete rewire. But after priming the line to the pump and blowing into the gas tank a couple of times, it started within seconds. Some tweaking on the carb and it is running smooth. The big muffler is off a cub quiet series and comes off if I can get the right one at the show. It was nice for running it the first time though so I could listen for any strange noises but all was OK. One issue now though is no reading on the Amp meter and dummy me forgot to see if it was registering when I brought it home after buying it originally. Tranny sounds fine and all gears are quiet. Decals are ordered from Terry. This will be the Snowblower machine.

Here are some photos. The seat is cracking and has a little of rust on the back but overall in pretty good shape for a 25 year old machine.

All, I would like to setup a webcam or 2 at the show this year and stream live! How cool would that be to have a live broadcast of the show for those who can't make it? Here's what we need: Streaming can be done, I've done some tests and it works. BUT it requires internet service. 1. Does anyone know if the fairgrounds has internet which we could use? 1a. Can anyone check with the fairgrounds for me? 2. Does anyone HAVE wireless internet which you would be willing to donate to the cause? Remember streaming can use a lot of bandwidth. I am willing to compensate for usage. 3. Other suggestions which you may have? This is an awesome opportunity for those who can not attend, but I need your help!

It is great to attend the Wheel Horse Collectors Club and see all the RedSquare hats and buttons. While most of you know this, I want to be sure that everyone is aware. The Wheel Horse Collectors Club is NOT RedSquare. While we have a large attendance at the show, we could be so lucky to host an event like this. The Wheel Horse Collectors Club pre-dates RedSquare and is solely responsible for the annual gathering which we all enjoy either in person or by seeing the pictures. Please remember that The Wheel Horse Collectors Club needs your support as well. Visit their FaceBook page for information on becoming a member. Their fee is only $10 per year which is such a small amount to insure their continued efforts at providing a quality show. So please remember, both and The Wheel Horse Collectors Club need your support to keep this hobby going and if you enjoy the show, please support the sponsor The Wheel Horse Collectors Club. If you would like to support RedSquare you can do so by visiting our store and selecting the supporter package which is right for you. Both RedSquare and the Wheel Horse Collectors Club are dedicated to the continued preservation of the legacy which Cecil Pond worked so hard to build. edit: The Wheel Horse Collectors Club has had a number of website changes, I think the best place to contact them is their FaceBook page

At least I think it's fixed! Long story. I bought my 704 at the show 4 yrs. ago. It barely ran enough to get it to the trailer. Got it home and had to put points and cleaned out the carb to get it to run. Ran decent but then it quit.No fuel. Had 1/2 tank of gas. Had to repair fuel pump. Now it runs pretty good but a bit erratic. Take of carb and install throttle shaft bushing. Runs great for a while but gets real erratic again. I think it's fuel and go through it again but find out the mag ground wire is worn thru and rubbing on steering shaft. Fix that. All is well. Take it to a show 2 years ago. Starts running like crap again. I have to pull the hood to richen the mixture. A week goes by and now it wants the mixture setting back to where it was. I figured maybe a little bit of bad gas. Go to the WHCC show last year. Get 2 laps into the cruise and guess what? It wants a carb adjustment again. I 'lose" 6 laps in the pits removing the hood and adjusting it. (By the way it was so loud I couldn't hear my engine to adjust it good! ) Of course it needs it set back again later. Now this summer I'm using the tractor to pull the sweeper. It act's up again and I decide to figure out what's going on. I determine it's a fuel problem. Carb is clean, screws are tight and carbs don't go in and out of adjustment by them selves so I rule that out. Tank is venting ok. Could be the pump again and I'm ready to pull it but I think IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING STUPID!!!! it is I replaced the leaking fuel sediment bowl long ago. It put in an elbow,a shutoff and a filter in it's place. It hit me THE FILTER! I installed one of those clear plastic inline paper filters. I have used them for years. Every time I installed one I would have to leave the outlet side unhooked and purge out the air to get fuel to flow before connecting it. I wonder if it's getting air locked. I remove it it is not plugged but I install one of those little red B&S filters in it's place. Burned thru a gallon of gas and the problem is gone. Used to take about 15 min for the problem to show but it's been about 2 hrs. of run time. Should I put the hood back on?

When I was growing up my grandparents lived on Sage Lake up in Hale, MI. Grandpa had this sweet tractor that I always sat on whenever I had the chance. He let me start driving it at about age 10. It has been through alot. Been flipped over, put in the lake, stuck in the mud....you name it. He passed away in 1999 and my grandmother could no longer care for the lakehouse so the house was sold and my dad took the tractor to his house in about 2006. There it sat until a few weeks ago. My wife and I bought a house with a pretty huge yard and Dad asked if I wanted it. DUH!! Took it home and did some maintenance stuff to see if it would run....no dice. Cleaned the tank, rebuilt the carb, new plug and a coil and she runs like a top! Anyways, glad I found this place. I look forward to learning all I can about my 1965 856. Thanks for letting me ramble.

I've been wanting to do the wheel hub mod for a while now so I am giving it a try..... Got the hubs at Surplus Center...the 5 bolt low speed hubs for 1" spindles.... Then I got some 3/4 X 1" brass flanged bushings and some 1" X 1 1/4" X 1" brass bushings. Also a couple 3/4 X 2" bolts w/16 thread and a couple castle bolts.... TSC was selling the 3.75 X 8 inch 5 bolt wheels on clearance....got 2 of them.... I think you probably get the idea.....The bushings needed pressed into the bearings....I reversed the inside one to conserve room.....Had I known this I would have just got straight bushings without the flange...I thought I would need the flange to press the bearings together....now I know and can save a bit for the next time...if there is one... The straight bushing was trimmed down for the inner seal to ride on.....it is only about 3/8 inches wide.....all hack sawed and then used the grinder....no lathe in my shop.... Then I cut the spindle down and welded a section of the 3/4 inch bolt on the end...so easy a caveman can do it...well it looks like a caveman did it.... From the outside......still need to drill a hole in the bolt for a cotter pin..... Inside ...seal running on the trimmed bushing...... Total cost...... 2 hubs....33 bucks shipped...Surplus Center bushings, bolts, nuts......25 bucks....Fastenal 2 wheels.....20 bucks Less than 80....

Well, that settles it. the damned holes stay. Thank you gentlemen for settling that issue. Still, I don't like the look, sort of like the open motor mount holes on the K300 engines when mounted to the frames of these tractors. One of those things one needs to accept with a Wheel Horse. Then again, I kinda am beginning to look at it this way: In spite of these design discrepancies, where are you going to find a better built tractor? It sort of adds to the uniqueness of the beast. Goes back to the beginnings of Wheel Horse, they were considered crude, but there was never any question concerning their quality or longevity. Long Live the Fender Holes!

Every one has different needs so what one person thinks is the best another person may not agree someone with a large flat yard will say a 520h with a 60" deck is the best but if you have a yard with lots of hills and trees then they would probably say a 312H with a 42" rear discharge is the best so it depends on what u need to use your mower for

Yes it runs well with no mechanical issues.

Hey guys I made myself a 2" receiver hitch for my tractor to use with my 8 x 14 snowmobile trailer. My yard is a bit tight in the back so its tough to maneuver with the truck. I only moved the trailer loaded with 3 sleds once last year and when I did I barely had reverse and it wanted to take off with a wheely going forward. I did some research on here and came to realize I had the common problem of the cracked trans mount plate. I started to redo my tractor its a 90 312-H and in that time came up with a pretty cool fix that requires no fabrication to the tractor. This may be a bit premature as I haven't really put any attachments back on my tractor yet so I cant say 100% that it wont interfere but I don't expect there to be any issues with my 42" rear discharge deck and definitely none with my snowblower. I designed a bracket that mounts to the 2 lower trans mount bolt holes and gussets and carries the load up to the frame. It mounts to the trans and the frame using existing holes (circled in blue) so I just had to get 4 longer bolts, 2 3/8-16 and 2 5/16-18. If any of you have the same problem and would like info on this bracket let me know and I can either provide u dimensions or make a bracket up and ship it to you. I only put the holes in that mount to the transmission and drilled the holes that attach it to the frame by hand to ensure a perfect line up. Let me know what you guys think!! As long as there are no interference issues I should be able to tow my house with my Horse without my tranny tilting and screwing up my linkage.

Even on the OEM tail lights you can see the fender hole. I replaced mine with LED's from http://www.superbrightleds.com/ and they are the same as the OEMs. To me the holes are not a big deal since the fenders came from the factory like that. LED on left OEM on right

Point taken Brandon, she won't quite be zero turn but it should be quite fun to drive No real updates yet guy's, busy remodeling my shack to make more working space.. But another part of the puzzle has turned up (Thanks Bob), a hood.. A bit rusty on the surface.. And silver inside!! But it looks like it should be there And for your viewing delight, here's part one of the build videos.

Use a Wheelhorse / Toro OEM belt. It is made to match the geometry of the V pulleys and after-market belts are not. The latter will soon flop around in the V pulleys, resulting in what you have.

Well, I have followed this topic too long ..heck yes I dicker and expect it ...if you don't ask you won't get anywhere..grocery store, use "matching price" concept...gas pump, use free car wash for a fill up concept...all the box stores offer discounts but you have to ASK...almost any retail business will give you a "senior discount" or a vet discount.....and I not too proud to take it...it ususally offsets the amount of the sales tax! Ever try the credit card fee thingy?...retails pays for those transactions and many will discount your purchase if you pay in CASH....try it! My favorite line is from the movie "Pretty Girl"...after she works out a deal to stay longer she says "I would have taken LESS"...he replies "I would have paid MORE".....so now you know what to expect when you come look at my 520H w/60" deck and the price is 2,500 bucks!.....just call me dicker John!

I haggle everything. I guess I enjoy the challenge. My wife and I still shake our head at how I managed to get $400 off the shelf price on our 52" Samsung flat screen TV at Best Buy and got them to throw in the $250 wall mount too. Of course she took off once I got started, but in the end I saved $650 off what I would have spent had I just paid sticker price.

This is my grandpa and dads old wheel horse, my dad took the black and white picture back in the 70s when he was younger than me about 12 then in the 80s he gave it to his friend. My dad has been after him to get it back for years, then when my grandpa passed away I wanted it even more, so yesterday I was going through some 857 parts and told my dad to call Hus friend and try to get it back. When he did he decided to part with it, so today we went up and worked out a deal. Since hes had it he welded a plate to the frame for a 12hp Kohler and cut the console for the battery. So when we got home we pulled the motor and put the hood on. My planes for the tractor is to make it as it is in the picture and get something done on the fender in memory of my grandpa, for example my grand pa cut the hood for headlights and taillights on it, he also had a signs in the hood.

That's great that the brake lines were done. I had to have mine replaced about six months ago on my '01 Sierra 2500HD with the 8.1 Litre Vortech. It was a bit over $1K for the job. Now at 44k, my Power Boost has begun to weep. But the truck is nice and solid, and was a great buy three years ago with only 29K on the odometer!

I've haven't had too many issues selling, it's the buying that has frustrated me. I see something I want. I call if there is a number. E-mail if There isn't. I don't hear back. Try again in a few days. Same thing leave messages. Days or weeks go by. Ad is still up. Finally get a hold of the guy and find out it was sold a month ago! Take your stupid ad down and at least reply to 1 e-mail and tell me it's sold!

Build it as high as you can too. Some attachments and accessories can go up high leaving room for tractors down on the floor. I wish mine was much bigger.

The blower is only going to add about 2 to 2 1/2 feet in front of the horse. My opinion...build the biggest shed you can...it is like building a deck...looks pretty big when you have strings stretched out on the lawn...but...put the patio furniture, grill, cooler...and then add the wife and her plants..."wished I would have built it bigger".

if you use a brake setup is not truly a "zero" turn. Its more like a "30 turn" since you will have a 30" circle that the center will spin around on... unless you plan on doing dual transmission like the 6x6? I would like the ability to pivot on a point with a wheel horse!
