5 pointsSo I logged onto craigslist this morning... just surfing... should have been working Did my usual Wheel horse wheelhorse search and I found a 314-8 (73449) with 169 hours.... original family owned it... for $500 Seat is perfect, everything works... just has that grass cutting patina on it... How do I spell SWEET?? Easy.. STEAL A WHEEL HORSE on a Thursday afternoon... Yes, I paid full price, didn't even try to negotiate.... Taking it home now to wash it.. (really needs that) and explain to momma what a smart guy she married... hope she listens just a bit before I get, "the look".. But hey, she benefitted all winter long from the plowing my '74 C-160 Auto did.... and this one is so quiet I might get her back to an occasional afternoon mow! --- that's about the best I can hope for from her in the afternoon anymore... Okay... had to share!

5 pointsHi guys, I'm taking advantage of this nice weather today and tire blacking some tires lol! Took some pics. Hope you like them.

3 pointsI am going to look at a pond walk behind tomorrow and it comes with a modified snow plow, cultivator and land plow. I was wondering if the plow and cultivator would work with a wheel horse slot hitch? Also does anyone know fair market value for the tractor and implements? Tractor has replacement motor and runs but needs work.

3 pointsOnly use a plastic or wood scraper and chemical gasket remover to clean the aluminum head surface, the machine finish is engineered to help hold the gasket in place during operation. Find an onan manual and use their recommended bolt lube procedure for the threads and under the bolt heads/washers again it's an engineered process and different lubes will result in different amounts of bolt stretch or clamping force at a given torque.

3 pointsI repowered the Charger 12 yesterday, I put a 1974 K341 16 HP engine on it. I rebuilt the engine and put it on yesterday, finished bolting everything together today and took it out to push dirt with 15 minutes run time on the engine. I ran it at half throttle and pushed as much dirt as I ever did with the 12 HP engine. This is the first time I used a 16 for a plow tractor. Guess I have to call it a Charger 16 now!!!

2 pointsMorning Everyone, A few months back I brought this cart/trolley off a friend who had only used it as a table in his shed for years and not for it's real purpose, he had nailed a divan bed base to the floor to make it a little longer, when I caught eyes on it, i popped the question and asked how much would he let it go for... After a bit of thinking and discussion, we settled on a price and so be it I was then leaving and going home with this cart. So far all I've managed to do is sort out the hitch so it can be pulled behind the horse or cubcadet, and cut the floor, weld four corners in, and the tailgate latches, I now need to buy done nice wood for the front sides and back, make the tailboard up with the hinges, buy two new tyres as they are odd, and then paint, paint, paint, although I haven't quite settled on a colour yet... The wood will be stained, but I'm not sure of what colours to paint the frame, Yes... My welding isn't none to good, but it holds and once it's painted it should look alright.... This is the cart in the sorry state I purchased it in, Cutting the floor Removing the handles

2 pointsHello all: I joined up because I have a K161 on a TroyBilt Rototiller. I have no idea how old this is. The ignition quit and I ran out of ideas to get it running. I finally broke down and took it to a service center and they told me that the repair(s) would cost $1100.00! Holy s**t! What were they going to do? needless to say, I picked the tiller up and brought it home. I started looking for parts and advice online, and I found Red Square. I signed up, made my first post in "Wanted", (new coil) and started reading posts. About 2 hours in, I found a 141, 161, 181 service manual, and a whole bunch of good advice on troubleshooting a reluctant ignition system. I did not know that the gap between the magnet and the coil is so critical, nor did I know that a .020 point gap is non-negotiable. I set the gap on both components and was rewarded with a spark! I spent a happy hour cleaning a gummy carburetor, added fuel, and it started on the third pull. Thanks for being here! Best example of "Seek and ye shall find" I have encountered in a very long time. You gotta LOVE the internet, and sites like this. Who knows, maybe I'll find a Wheel Horse that needs some Love and become a true believer. Thanks again for being here and the information you folks share freely. Dave Blancett

2 pointsHi all: So I wanted to share my most recent acquisition, a 1972 Case 444. This is a beast! Came with a 48 inch snowcaster and auxiliary hydraulic valve. I will start tearing into this over the weekend
-
2 pointsalright, thats enough nonsense, its Friday night and the last thing i want to think about is work...... except on the tractor that is! update. got the intake and carb all bolted up with new gaskets and mounted on the engine...... also finished off the wiring to the starter solenoid and up to the headlight harness plug, i didn't have a 2 position connector so i just crimped the push on terminals and will install the connector at a later date. theres always something that has been forgotten and can't finish off an area on the tractor.....dont get me started on that...... few more of the engine, put an extra harness clip or two to hold the wiring so it won't rub on the paint. got a new filter gasket so that went on..... also got a different air cleaner the other day (different breather hose position than the one i had) so the base got painted along with the dipstick tube and engine pulley.. this air cleaner had a chrome lid, not sure if i will use it or just go with the black one. (this one has more power than the one that was on it though, wonder if i would notice the difference?)

2 pointswhatever you decide to do just stay away from the junk they are selling at Tractor Supply.

2 pointsLike Kelly, I also use automotive paints on most of my Restorations but in the case of this Suburban I figured why not use Rustoleum Regal red. Afterall, this was going to be my fun go to tractor that see's a ton of use (and it does) and at the time I really didn't care if it got scratches or faded in a few yrs. (and I still don't care) Whatever. After a full yr. since I painted it no fading and no scratches and anyone that sees it can't believe it when I tell them its Rustoleum. I've been using Rustoleum since my early teens, I'm almost 46 now so I have a pretty good idea of how to lay it on. The bottom line is you can spend ten times more for paint but if you don't know what you are doing it will still come out crappy but with a lot more money down the toilet...Kelly is our professional painter, I agree with him. For the money it is good paint.
-
2 pointsI use automotive paint on my 99% of my tractors, BUT I do like the Regal red color it is a touch dark and spray can paint does take time to dry, but for spray can paint after it drys rust oleum is about as tough as you will find, but it takes a couple months to get 100% dry. This is one tractor I did do in rattle can Regal red, but the front weight and snow blade are orig. paint, you can see the difference there. If you click on pic it will view larger

1 pointHello all! First off i would like to say thanks to all the members on the forum. I've found quite a bit of helpful information in here. I just got my first Wheel Horse two days ago it's a 1987 312-8 (21-12K804), came with a plow and a 36" deck (gosh it's small). All for $500, others I've seen on craigslist go for more than that here in Taxachusetts. Seems to be in pretty good shape, some issues, but not bad considering it's almost 30 years old, I have not seen anything major yet. The hour meter says 467, starts right up. Added some oil (it only had a quart in it ) ran it till it warmed up, changed the oil. Don't see any white smoke and no knocks, yay! Started in with the grease gun, need to look at the manual and find them all zerks. Gotta give the choke cable some PB Blaster, it's froze solid. Rear tires are holding air, front tires not so good, about a day and they get squishy. New air filter, spark plug and a transaxle oil change are on the very soon to do list. The guy I got it from has a tiller for it, he said it's missing some stuff. I forget what he called it but I think it's the part/s that connect it to the tractor. I might buy it from him, would be nice to have one for my little garden. I'm looking for a snowblower for it, could have used it this winter that's for sure. And a bigger deck would be nice and a lawn sweeper to drag behind me. Not a fan of baggers, all that getting on and off and clogging up stuff, ugh. I haven't taken any pics of it myself yet, here's the one from the craigslist ad I got it from...

1 pointThe Weather Men/Ladies were calling for 52 degrees and 40 % chance of showers today. They might have missed it. But I still have the plow on and its not sticking to the Driveways to much yet. Maybe later.

1 pointAny 8" WH caps? Don't forget to get a "DOG & BUN" before they run out! It's those short "Dino Arms'"

1 pointYes you can cook a coil by leaving it on. I have seen it happen. But I have also seen the ignition left on and the coil was OK as well. One of these is a great tool: http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-20610-Inline-Spark-Tester/dp/B0002STSC6 TT told me to get one years ago, and I use it often.

1 pointAnd again Miller tire is a good place to start looking, if you don't see what you want give them a call. they are about 30 miles west of Toledo far enough out of the city to be ag oriented.
-
1 pointYea I saw that one on craigslist to I was going to look at it to. I wish it had the original motor to I would of been really interested in it to. Still it's really cool and price right. Wink Wink he will go down to $130 for it. Good luck Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk

1 pointYou may have seen my "scrap yard save" thread that I posted last night. Well I also done a little tractor swapping with some tractor buddies and ended up with these Wheel Horse tractors. A C161 hydro and a best I can tell 68 Raider 12 ( I haven't ran the tag on it yet.). Also got a nice 42 inch RD deck and a nice tiller. Both tractors seem to be in very good shape mechanically. The Raider is missing the hood and engine but it did come with a good K321 14HP long block. The 161 needs a little wiring work and an axle seal.

1 pointYep John, the Buckeyes were just way too "Crafty" for their own good. He cost them the game with his one man showmanship. Good riddance.

1 pointUse a plastic or wood scraper. Be very careful if you use anything abrasive. Lubing the bolts is always recommended.
-
1 pointSo Martin, how are things going? Not to be pushy, but going 5 days without seeing the highest quality tractor porn on the internet is hard on a guy. Matt
-
1 pointnot sure if this is your tractor model but should be close part number 47 in the transmission section

1 pointThanks for sharing. Yes sirree, I get it. The exact same thing happened to me two years ago. I bought a 1995 314-8 speed with mower deck and snow blower attachments for $500 on my local clist. I got one heck of a bargain and I knew it. I almost felt guilty as if I was stealing it as I drove away with it on my trailer. And I also got "the look" at that time from the other half. But I tell you what... My "new" 314-8 is the greatest, most reliable worker that I have ever owned. Now the wife appreciates a well manicured lawn, so all is swell here in my tractor world once again. I always expect to get "the look" whenever a lonely, unwanted horse follows me home.
-
1 pointMiller also has some 16 X8 front tractor wheels with out a center for $52.75 each.

-
1 pointWell, so far Ohio St. is out...Wisconsin had no problem and won...and guess what??? Illinois is still playing basketball.
-
1 pointWhat size rim are you looking for. The smallest I have seen have been 24 x 7 from Miller Tire @ $90 a piece.

1 pointif the motor was over full, check around the bottom of the gear case cover (cover behind flywheel) when you get it cleaned up. the oil level when full is close to this area normally, so it would be 'underwater' when over full. that and the other suggestions are common leak points on these engines. the loose bearing plate is a concern to me as well. that could have allowed some small movement along the crank line, so check your seals well too. i just hope you didn't have much up and down movement as the bearings could be of concern. i would be careful pressure washing around that area as well, you have an ignition pickup sensor behind the flywheel and they run $80+ new. not sure how water friendly they are, but I'm always real careful with that aminal, if i were you i would keep the water away and just pull the flywheel and anything else big that is in the way and get a couple rolls of shop towels and a scraper and clean it up. just until you know whether you have any bad gaskets, seals etc. you don't want to introduce a bunch of water inside that engine. brake cleaner through a straw is also a good localized cleaner and will loosen some of the stubborn stuff. also be careful on the 'overfull'. one of my p216 Onans is always half way up the dipstick when pulling the dipstick when cold. the wipe and recheck shows right at the full line. just an fyi.

1 pointGlen, not quite a trailer queen but a nice one. This one went out Saturday.

1 pointsee J Dog's for sale ad. He lives a few miles from the show

1 pointAnd these. I likely have more but this is all I can think of right now ( some are buried under snow and ice). Makes your tractor very versatile. I would not be without mine. Cleat

1 pointOk here is what I believe will be on the trailers........ I will not throw out any prices as I need to go through some of the stuff first. Tractors: GT 2500 B-111 Possibly a Work Horse This list of tractors may grow within the next month Motors: 12 h.p. Kohler 6 h.p. Kohler Maybe a couple more and/or parts for more Snowblowers: Various blowers in all different conditions Mower decks: Many different conditions Hoping to have a few real good ones (42") that are ready to mow Snow plows: No long frames available but may have some springs, quadrants, angle levers, and some blades if I have room and there is interest. Currently working on some other deals and will update the list accordingly. Pictures will start to trickle in within the next couple of weeks. I believe my landscape trailer will be a "name your price" sale. I don't want any of it to come home......that means empty!!! I am willing to deal, so bring cash and let's have fun!
-
1 pointI don't know Scott...I was thinking I could make it work. I really need to look at it and throw it out there. I am just tired of holding out the throttle and plowing snow and turning the blade and lifting the blade and shifting all at the same time. I need a better way of doing this. I end up just idling around and that can't be good for the 8 hsp Kohler.
-
1 pointIt's a good 3 1/2 hours for me and well worth the trip if you are selling, buying, hungry or just want to start the year off by getting out of the house and meeting quite a few members. It is an excellent day to start the show season. BTW...I am looking for a "T" throttle cable. I want to put one on my 857...I am tired of trying to use the Lock type that never works.
-
1 pointWell, some good news! The fuel shutoff valve was seized in place. I twisted it back and forth a few times and it broke loose. When I cranked the engine over I noticed the fuel flow through the fuel filter was constant and had much more volume than before. The engine fired right up and ran like it should whether at idle or full speed. Regardless, I am going to have Scott's dad go though this machine completely. It has oil leaks, the fuel lines are old, the plug wires look old, and it needs a brand new paint job and body work. It should be neat to see what it looks like done.

1 pointahhh, well that was the bit modeled in lego 2 years ago that's the secret to making it. Plan A gives me 4x4 or 4x2, but a small transmission headache. Plan B gives me a 100% locked 4x4 transmission Plan C swaps to hydro... Plan D it's an articulated tractor that tows behind another fingers crossed another of the parts comes this week that I need and I'll get the centre pivot finished. Whilst on on here, anyone know who made this nice conversion? It's a picture I downloaded a few years ago when I started thinking, and I can't find any links or stories now. Seems to me that plan "A", a 4X2 with the rear wheels being more or less a trailer would be a good "show tractor" but i would bet you want to do plan "C", tow hydros with true 4X4 drive, a lot more work but look at the pride you will have in it! The 200 series isn't the clloest member of the herd, but if you used one engine and two 200 A trans axles then all you would need to do is mount a double row idler pulley at your pivot point to transfer power from one to the other. That would make it rather easy to build. I will be very interested to see this project come togather, thanks for sharing it with us.
