4 pointsHere is a video of my run at the Keystone Nationals. Only recorded my second hook, first hook I forgot to turn on the GoPro. Had a good weekend though, Won the first round of Mod Twin, Finished 5th in the second round. http://youtu.be/hHHjjgdFNqI

2 pointsThe down side of the K & N filters is that they don't filter as well as a stock paper filter, in an automotive application that is relatively clean or a high performance app. where the engines are gone thru and freshened up on a regular basis dirt contamination is not as big of a wear factor as it is in a working dusty field application. Just my $.02 worth.

2 pointsWell the Spartans cost Michigan their number 1 seed. But it upped their own seeding from probably a 5 to a 4 seed. My Big East has 3 teams in the dance and one in a play in. I can't quite believe that??? I do believe that the Big Ten got snubbed with only 6 in the dance. Providence should be in a play in game and Xavier should be watching it at night between NIT games. Looks like I'll line up behind Izzo. I have the Spartans in the Final Four!

2 pointsLets see, engine burns oil...deck rusted through in one spot (means there are probably more ready to break through.... something wrong with a usually tough reliable tranny. Either this unit has been worked very long and very hard or it was abused/neglected. Oil not changed = oil burning later in life, tranny problem could be because there was water in the tranny or somebody ground gears a lot. Bottom line at that price he can keep it....

1 pointHi guys, decided I am going to do a partial resto on my 57 rj35. It is just going to be blasted and primed and I will worry about filling in all the pits and painting it another day. It has all been blasted and the frame has been primed. One of my dad's buddys is going to go through the rear end for us and see if it needs anything. We do not have a motor for it yet, But I know where I can get one. No gas tank either and I'll have to see if I can get my dad to let one of his hoods go. If anyone has a gas tank or a spring that tensions the belts, or a throttle cable they want to let go of please send me a message. Here are some pics of the frame that is primed. The last pic will show you its in pretty bad shape. but that is the worst spot. I'll get some pics of the rest of the parts tomorrow. ~Jake

1 pointYep, time to take down the Red Valentine Hearts and put up the Green Shamrock. happy St Patricks Day

1 pointThat seat looks great but I tried one and there wasn't enough padding in it for my taste. I got the first seat pictured here from TSC. Very comfortable. The 2nd seat pictured I got from The Surplus ctr. I've had it 8 yrs. or so and it's the best tractor seat I ever sat on!

1 pointI don't know Scott...I was thinking I could make it work. I really need to look at it and throw it out there. I am just tired of holding out the throttle and plowing snow and turning the blade and lifting the blade and shifting all at the same time. I need a better way of doing this. I end up just idling around and that can't be good for the 8 hsp Kohler.

1 pointThe PARKING PAWL in an internal part of the trans and here is a pic of it. When the PARKING BRAKE lever is pulled UP, that forces the PAWL to engage a gear in the trans, putting it in PARK. In almost EVERY case I've ever seen, that parking pawl is broken away or worn down, caused by pulling UP on the parking brake lever while still in motion. That is why there is a decal that reads "DO NOT ENGAGE WHILE IN MOTION". (or something like that). However, it seems no one pays attention to that and they use it as a PANIC STOP, which chips away at the parking pawl (or gear) and these metal 'flakes' get into the trans fluid. Those steel flakes work their way into brass parts of the pump and / or hydraulic motor and scrape or score precision parts, causing loss of power. The only cure for that condition is REBUILD. There are 2 types of parking pawls. One has the shaft welded to it, and the other is a cast part, drilled for a roll-pin to hold it onto the shaft (like the one in the trans pic shown). 1 pointBeen working on the motor for it....opened it up to find this.... It has a .010 over piston and a nice tight bore....so I am just going to do a valve job on this and put new rings on it. The piston and rod are in good shape. I have some parts soaking and will get pictures of them when I get them cleaned up and blasted(may take me a few days) I also ended up taking a k90 shroud I had that did not have recoil holes in it and added them to it, It left me with a good spare k91 shroud with original paint for another project. Also had a set of NOS tins for one of these laying around and I figured this was the one to use it on Here are some pictures of the shroud and blasted parts

1 pointRight John...both Illinois and Minnesota are in the NIT...we will see. Illinois would have had some home games, but they are working on the stadium...looks like all their games in the NIT will be away. Gotta love college basketball...should be a great 4 weeks. Iowa needs to get their act together...I see them winning their first game. To bad they are not playing for a 16 seed...they could have been the first team to beat a number 1. YA RIGHT!!!

1 pointI don't think I would remove the exhaust coverings. They seem to keep the exhaust heat isolated from the coil and wiring. I'm planning on cutting my belt guard flush with the black panel to allow full unrestricted airflow from the rear cylinder. It's crazy the amount of air that comes off that thing even at idle and the belt guard seems to catch every bit of it. I've heard some members having great success in cutting holes in their panels as well. There is also a gasket that seals the engine oil filter around the shroud, if yours is missing that seal it can be replaced for cheap.
-
1 pointI wouldn't run K&N Air filters on anything with a motor, they just don't filter well enough. And on a mower you are running in the worst conditions.
-
1 pointI still exist! I got kind of quiet when the Hawkeyes messed up both the final game and then losing to northwestern who they beat by 26 points each time they played. Anyways we did make it to the dance how far? Who knows? They actually have to play an extra game to play into the tourney. The Iowa State Cyclones took the Big Twelve tourney and are looking pretty good. The Univerisity of Toledo didn't make it because they lost the MAC final to Western Michigan. Hopefully they'll get to pay in the NIT. That might be your chance Stevasaurus possibly the NIT

1 pointI was up to the family camp this weekend following a 20" dumping. The guy who plows for us said he needs a backhoe to come in and push the mounds back. Our driveway is about 1000' with a large circle by the house. When I came in my truck barely fit down the driveway. Once I got my son to bed I fired up the 314h 2-stage combo. Seat time from 10:30pm to about 12:30. By now this should be old news. But once again I'm blown away with the performance of my equipment. I probably saved a few hundred $$$ by doing it myself. Not to mention it was a good time. There was a 5' high pile in front of the garage which disappeared in no time. Plow banks up to 8' high. The road coming in was 6'-8' wide and is now 10'-12'. The Magnum 14 did plenty of grunting but got it done. Dollar for dollar you just cant beat a Wheel Horse!
-
1 pointYou are right. I'm down on Good Road past Clearview elementary. Got my 1988 pretty much put back together. Mine wasn't quite that dirty. Has 857 hours on it. We will have to hook up and share notes
-
1 pointHow the heck did they manage that? Fortunately most of my snow hadn't hardened up. Pulling double duty as a sled chaser. Can't wear the kid out walking uphill!
-
1 pointWill I be going? I'm already loaded up! My son Cole and myself plan on camping out in Old Blue again. I slept like a baby at last yrs. show, the weather was perfect at night! I'm not too sure what tractors we are bringing yet... I should have room for four, two Hot Rod Burbans and??? It sounds like Ole Stevebo is gonna be a heavy hauler this yr. He is now a little heavy on Horsepower under the hood of that new mule he bought! Good thing Old Blue has a little nut down low...

1 pointYes, I'm kinda like clay brooks. I seek out the nicest stuff I can find and leave it that way. Mechanical reconditioning only.

1 pointI remember working in an auto shop. We had a guy who always kept a rag hanging out of his pocket. He was cutting off an exhaust when the rag caught fire. I yelled to him and he put it out. The guy next to him, who was a ball buster had gotten the water hose out. He let him have it even though the fire was all ready out!

1 pointMy personnel opinion...the Big Ten got snubbed...6 teams and Iowa has to play for a spot in the field of 64...Minnesota has never got any respect...No number 1 seeds. We will see...we are set up for some good wins that work for us...if we show up and the refs let us play. The tournament committee has put a chip on our shoulder...they have poked the shark.
-
1 pointmust be from your recoil sale.Had all that spare cash laying around to purchase a cool tractor.
-
1 pointSound like that paint would be great in making your own fly-paper strips. Buy the brown Majic paint, (to simulate, well, you know), then spray it on strips of foil and dangle it from the ceilings of our workshops and garages. Ok. It's just a thought but at least it gives some purpose to buying it again. I wonder how many strips a can could do. Lets see.........one can could make more than 60 strips coated on both sides and each strip lasts 4 to 5 days or less when the weather is warmer. Mmmmmmmmmmm!
-
1 pointI will make a prediction........ A Team from Michigan will win the tournament!
-
1 pointI guess I am one that likes building better Mole traps too! If they don't make it like I want, Ill build it myself. I often thought of the air restriction an Oil filter provides over the rear head. Being I just rebuilt the 520 Engine I was on a mission to do any improvement necessary in order to keep the rear head cool. Not only that but the peanut size oil filters that are used are too spindley for my purpose and I don't like getting oil all over MY RIDE! So I installed a remote oil filter kit with a LARGE FILTER that traps contaminants down to 20 microns with Nano Filter technology. Now I can change the oil filter with ease. Oh and installing an Inline oil pressure gauge on the dash was also a bonus!
-
1 pointanother thing to remember, what ever 'high flow' element you put in there, the air is still just sucked through that tube that is in the top of the blower housing. and the carb throttle plate diameter is only going to flow so much air anyway and then its just a waste of money. i think a standard replacement filter would do just fine, anything more is just overkill......

1 pointEd, like has been mentioned before, take care of the valves and decarbon while its apart. the intake has to come off to do the valve clearances. bit of a pain, but these engines are worth looking after. a little maintenance goes a long way and who doesn't like caring for our wheel horses? Before the Onans started appearing in my garage i didn't have much good to say about them, ignorant i guess, i thought nothing could draw my attention away from the simplicity of the k series Kohlers. Well times have changed, and while the Kohlers still impress me with their simple, uncomplicated makeup, the Onan has impressed me with how well made an engine they really are. they are a bit of a pain to work on, spare parts are more expensive, but there is something about them that has got me hooked on them......

1 pointI'll be camping again this year . . . staying Thursday-Saturday. Hoping to have my Raider 12 done by then. Cheesegrater will be there for sure
-
1 pointNot TSC's fault. Valspar was forced by the EPA to make changes to the Restoration Series to lower the VOC. They instead decided that they would stop making it rather than reformulate it. So TSC was forced to find another vendor. Unfortunately, Majic was a poor choice to replace the VRS paint.
-
1 pointJack, I used something that I thought I would never use. TSC was having a sale on their Majic Red Oxide primer, so I bought a can. Then on a whim, I bought two rattle cans of Majic IH Red paint. That is what I used. It's been sitting now for 8 hours and the darned stuff is still tacky. Also, I haven't checked to see how the color matches up with the old Valspar Restoration Series IH Red, but I will. I painted the external governor parts with that back when I disassembled it, and as soon as I find them, I will do a color comparison. Okay, I found the parts that were painted with VRS IH Red. To my eye there is no comparison.

1 pointWhen it comes to plowing I have never had a HP issue...traction is what it is all about. My L-107 (6hp) runs out of traction long before the engine stalls. My 12 hp Electro 12 with almost 200 lbs of weights plus me and chains and limited slip differential will sort of make the governor kick in...but I never stalled her.

1 pointTwo are marked AC. They are where the stator is connected. The other is your B+ or 12 volts. All the terminals are marked as shown in the picture.
-
1 pointFinally got some stuff painted. The fenders and belt shield go to the 401, the rest is to this. Frame is just about ready for primer now too.
