I got started restoring my Dad's Raider 12 this week. We are going for the show room look. This will be the smallest tractor we have ever restored, it's kind of fun! Dad had started taking it apart before he passed but never got it finished. We will have before and after pics soon. I have been around Wheel Horse tractors all my life and used them and never paid them any mind, but boy have I been bitten by the Wheel horse bug now!

Took me a while to find decent specimens but its coming together. 3 different states and 2 years so far. Only looking for 1 more at the moment which is the rj35. But I'm happy. Wanted to share these pics. RJ58 does also have a deck( not pictured), Suburbans 550 and 551. I have a kohler on the 550 till I get the lauson running correctly.

HI folks, looking for identification please on my recent purchase, model 1 - 1631, serial no. 469653, can anyone tell me anything about it please, ie year of manufacture etc, model type etc, it comes with a mower deck which im told is original

Scott- As others have said ... YOU are the man for doing this with these kids. These days something like this would simply not fly out here. Way too many liability issues. It is good to know that some school admin still make good decisions and allowed you to follow through on this. You are getting to the fun part now...

I looked at this last summer and might have a chance to buy the whole package, it runs great with no smoke. The deck shell is rough, I don't know how many hours are on it. I'm looking for opinions on what a fair price would be. Thanks.

Thank you guys for the comments and support. I feel very fortunate to have the support of the school district as well as those in our community. Last night was a great time, even for the adults. I saw a few of the kids today and they said thank you for last night. That is the main reason why I do what I do.........glad to be able to share something that I enjoy with them. And you guys are right, the fun is just now beginning for them. Can't wait until next Wednesday!!!!

Scott, You are to be commended for helping these youngsters learn and enjoy. I loved taking small engines class in high school. Gave me a chance to get dirty & learn during school rather than just sitting behind a desk. As Stevebo said, we could only dream of doing something like that here on the east coast now. Our high school used to have FFA years ago. That went away & now they have FBLA

Been travelling a bunch for work lately and the winter just seems to be dragging on.... I needed a fix and Saturday was pretty nice up here so I dragged the machines out for a little sun and fired them all up. Just a quick shot of the herd for all you picture lovers.

Here is a picture taken of the throttle cable when I had an 856. The cable came through the hole in the tray, under the tray, over the starter and muffler, and attached to the governor.

thanks for the info dose this happen all the time or is this a freck i was running 100 pounds wheel weight from a JD did that have something to do with it

worked on the clutch idler arm assembly tonight. there was way too much play in the shaft where it passed through the frame, the holes in the frame were worn oval shaped...i hadn't dealt with it before powder coating the frame so it needed to be taken care of. i purchased 2 7879 bushings on ebay for $15 free ship last week and tonight after work went to the surplus store near there and looked through all the reamers he had there. usually i can pick up something to do the job for under $5. half an hour and $3 later i had a reamer to take with me.... reamer size is .5747". because there is a very slight taper, i could stay around .569 (od of the bushing) if i didn't go all the way in. because i don't have a taper chuck i just used the reamer by hand. wasn't much material to take out of there so it was fairly easy. about half way there.... the last of it i used vise grips to save my hands a little... after going in a little at a time and testing the fit, i arrived at a point where it was just a slight effort to push the bushing in. test fit of the bushing. the bushing was installed from behind as it has a flange and wouldn't have gone into the area of the frame its needed because of the larger hole in the frame interfering with it. both bushings are going to be loctited in their new home. then i repeated it again on the other side as both holes were worn. test fitted idler arm shaft through bushings inside frame showing flange of bushing.... shaft installed teaser.....

Here is a Wheel Horse special team: Mort's Wild Horses picture from Florida Flywheeler's Show in 2010. The front Wheel Horse is pulling a team of four on a home hitch set up! I like this setup! It reminds me of the time my brother and I talked about hooking two Wheel Horse RJ's up to a Covered Wagon and pulling the wagon as a team. We had a covered wagon as kids that we pulled with the RJ we had but it was a one horse pull!

Freezing rain and snow with thunder and lightning last week. Sweating (with a little work involved) in the afternoons this week at 80 degrees. The heat .....it's coming! Three years ago we had one period here near Tulsa where the temps were recorded at a 100 degree swing in a 36 hour period. It was 28 below one night and about 80 degrees in the afternoon about 36 hours later.

My plow frame was reassembled as first built, but using grade 8 bolts - I stayed with 3/8" bolts. I've used the plow a couple times since, and today's 6 inches or so was heavy wet snow. So far so good.

Me & my good lady are booked in local hotel , we will be arriving with Michael Martino . We are traveling from London Heathrow to Newark & touring New York City before heading off to the show . Sadly i wont be bringing any tractors but who knows i might just take one away with me ??????????????????. My good lady is soooooooooooo looking forward to meeting everyone one at the show. Im on the look out for a tractor to use for cruise night if anyone can help

Brian: No, I will not have the metal tags at the show. Just posting a F.Y.I. Some restorers are "purists" and some of us just want our tractors to look good. (There are sets of metal punches available to stamp in the serial numbers, same size).
