    Found a nice little RJ 58. It was still owned by the original owners family. So I guess I'm the second owner? It has not been used for 20years but stored in an old wooden barn high and dry away from pickers till I come along. I do believe the only thing missing is the serial # tag. Shields are all accounted for. I did get the mower deck and snow plow with it. Just thought I'd share, so excited to have another one.

    We have a winner. I just got it somewhat back together with the Sears strait pipe and it runs smooth (although loud). Thank you everyone for your help. Now I have to figure out what to do about putting a muffler on the tractor. I have seen posts on Red Square about how much they have been selling for lately so I will have to decide how much I want to spend. Once again thank you so much! Chris.

    I found a new in the box 520H anniversary model. What should I offer to pay? Are implements that fit (snow blade snow blower) hard to find because of the swept front axle? The fact that this tractor has been sitting so long going to have issues such as bad seals, fuel pump diaphragm failure rusty internal parts such as engine cyclinders and bad oil?

    In what forum would it be best to upload a short tutorial on how I repaired an OEM K-301 Nelson muffler. It came apart at a great spot to show how they are assembled, and how they operate. Please bear with me, as a "tutorial" has never, ever escaped from this PC. But I have gotten so much knowledge from other's, here at RedSquare, I feel its time to try my hand at it. Pictures always help, which I have. Wow, what a winter this has been so far.

    Van Im not sure how many tractors are truly made in America anymore. Yanmar makes all of the tractors for Junk Deere up to the 4005 Utility Tractor so they're made in China, From my understanding AGCO is a conglomerate that makes Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Case/IH in America, Canada and some in Mexico but uses many different manufacturers for parts. Mahindra as we said is Indian and Kubota is Japanese but makes everything themselves so maybe thats a good thing. Its a shame where we have gone as a country. Nothing really good comes from here anymore and when it does people don't want to spend money on a quality tractor. I think thats why Toro killed Wheel Horse. We are just an assembly point and thats sad. Ive driven a Mahindra machine they are heavy duty, I would say you can't beat them for the money. I never knew they built for International Harvester though.

    Those are the ones that are so hard to find. That is a perfectly preserved survivor. IMO any type of repainting or restoration to something like that one is a sin. Clean it up with some soap and water, get her running right and enjoy !! (If you were Clay-RJ35 Hunter you would not even clean it) lol

    Yes it's Indian alright but at the same time it's an updated International tractor. Also too it's American as it has an EATON transmission and rear end. Mahindra was building for International in the 1960's, and this particular model came forward from that time. It is one tough Son of a Gun! The three point lift is unbelieveably strong. I have taken this tractor with the blade you see on it and lifted the rear of a Chevy C10 cargo van loaded down with scrap metal, and pushed the whole van (with four flat tires) uphill and onto a dovetail equipment trailer so we could take the van to the scrap metal yard. Really I was going to buy a new John Deere or Massey Ferguson, but the John Deere's are too narrow and the bodywork is plastic. They are not made in America. The Mahindra is all steel. The Massey Ferguson's are not made in America either, so whats a Wheel Horse guy to do??? I have a friend from India who is a Mechanical Engineer and is very familiar with the Mahindra operation. He told me this series of Mahindra tractors were designed to run for 75 years. This is why I refer to it as my Mahindra Horse; It's Red, It's Heavy, It has an American Transmission and rearend, it's all steel, and it's designed to run for 75 years. That my friends is about as close to being a Wheel Horse as you will ever get

    I have a 94 520H. I want to put the factory front tires that came on the tractor. Were they goodyear softtrac tires? I have a manual and found the front tire size. (16X650-8) Also were these tires 2 or 4 ply?

    A week ago, I was just finishing cleaning up the latest 12 inch snowfall with my single stage blower on the 416, when things started flopping around in the PTO area. I quickly disengaged and determined that the thrust bearing on the PTO had finally given up. It took me about 15 minutes to remove the PTO pulley, remove the snap ring, and drive out the old bearing. It took about another 15 minutes to clean things up, go to my stash and get a new bearing, some new snap rings for the stub-shaft, and re-install everything. 30 minutes later, my machine and I are good to go back to work. Try that on a Cub-Cadet.

    Ok, so earlier I started the engine and put my hand in front of the muffler discharge and it was pushing warm air but was kind of pulsing. I attributed that to the miss in the front cylinder. So I just got done taking the top off the motor again(exhaust and manifold) and I wasn't finding anything that looked off. So I was sitting there and decided to put my mouth on the muffler and give it a blow. The rear blew nice and easy. I put my mouth on the front hole and blew through it and about popped a vein in my eye trying to blow through it. You can blow through it but it is under a lot of pressure. So I am going to reassemble with the other muffler and try it out. I am not sure what happened to the muffler to make it so hard to blow through but I am really hoping this is my problem. Thank you everyone for the help so far. I will update the thread once I reassemble and try it again. Chris.

    I have had this problem in the past. For me it turns out I've bent the lift arm itself near the base and it causes the button "rod" to bind. I put a big pipe over the lift arm and bend her back to straight. After doing this 3 times I finally welded a support around the base to strengthen the arm.

    Ed...glad you got all that snow off your roof. WOW..16' with a 1' drop and it's shingled...you have some work to do in the spring. There are times that I just hate water. Maybe a corrugated metal roof is in your future.

    Ed...great picture. What is the pitch on that roof??? If that is a 3, you do not have time to type on Red Square. Get that snow off of there fast.

    The ONANs have more torque than the Kohlers and are hands down the better engines for driving the two stage blowers. The 520H is the best choice. It is not doing you any good sitting in the corner. Put a new battery in it, clean up the starter issue, clean the carburetor and it will blow snow like hell won't wont have it. You are missing out on a lot of good seat time.

    IMHO - it would be unlikely that the Eaton (or Sunstrand) would be bad. As much as we love these Kohler engines and as durable at they are - it's funny that in some ways the engine is the weak link on a Wheelhorse tractor. It just takes about 20 years to destroy the weak link...

    Here is the early chain set up, sounds like yours is routed wrong, you can add the upper idler, you get better chain contact with the big gear, but it will work as I have pictured, this is of my early blower I use on my round hood. And yes there is a rod missing that runs the blower mounted PTO but not needed as you have the engine PTO Set you chain up like this and you should be all set.

    Well some of you might know how difficult it is in finding the Gt14 muffler, vitually impossible right. I got lucky and have come across two NOS GT14 mufflers in my time. Sold one and kept the other. There were a few other NOS parts that I threw at this bad boy. A fuel tank that had never seen fuel, electric clutch, a two piece seat w/ arm rests, headlight lense with the chrome horse, I won a fuel valve on ebay from across the pond. I saved big bucks on that they go for around $40 bucks plus shipping and handling so you end up right around $50, got it for $20 plus $7 shipping. So all in all pretty happy camper. It will be painted within the next month depending on weather. Decals have arrived so theres not a whole lot left to do. I've got a really nice steering wheel to pick up and other than that, I can't wait to be cruisin in style or at least in the GT14 style.

    Nice RJ-35 you found there. I picked up my own 1955 RJ-35 a few weeks ago. These early RJ's are really cool tractors... but yeah, you really don't want to drive it in reverse.

    I had a similar issue with an 89 520 Onan and the problem was a blown intake manifold gasket. Replaced gasket....still runnning strong today with <500 hours.

    remember that you both have to live with the price,so if you feel comfortable at 1000 then that's all that matters,in the end you have to live with your neighbors and to take advantage could jeperdize a good neighbor relationship,up where I live in Ontario,thats a good deal with all the goodies,newer model,not crazy amount of hours,the nice thing is so many tractors have parts for that model,somethings from the 70,s models will fit all the way to 2007,that means that it can be kept for along time and with a place like redsquare,ebay,craigslist,tractor shows,for parts and attachments,toro still has lots of nos parts still available too,enjoy your new tractor

    I didn't have nearly the snow you guys had but there was alot of ground and roadway for me to clear. I had to break out the the Mahindra Horse with a 6foot blade for this job.

    Well Men, I just might be one of the last people to get PAID to run my horse!! I'm a maintenance director and brought the 414 I saved from an Amish guy to help clean the parking spaces and sidewalks, as well as salt! FANTASTIC IDEA!! I've saved to much time this year! (money too!)

    Well, some good news! The fuel shutoff valve was seized in place. I twisted it back and forth a few times and it broke loose. When I cranked the engine over I noticed the fuel flow through the fuel filter was constant and had much more volume than before. The engine fired right up and ran like it should whether at idle or full speed. Regardless, I am going to have Scott's dad go though this machine completely. It has oil leaks, the fuel lines are old, the plug wires look old, and it needs a brand new paint job and body work. It should be neat to see what it looks like done.

    I've been building from Lego Technic for 35 years, if it had wheels, gears and tracks I built it as a kid. As an adult it's great for prototyping, especially when it's expensive to order parts that 'might' work. If it works in Lego, then I can move onto cutting metal and spending money :)

    Well even thru all of the plowing and snowmobiling today, I made time to finish my lights on the 854. I hooked up a red LED strip bar that comes on with the headlights. The bottom light comes on when I go into reverse. This is the switch I mounted to activate the reverse light. The lights are brighter than I originally thought. This wasn't my idea, but was pretty cool to do.
