9 pointsSanta was good to me this year. He brought me a well taken care of 1993 314 HYDRO with a 42" SD deck that is in great shape (no rust or dents or dings). The engine is a Magnum 14. The tractor has 530 hours on the meter, and the meter works so I'm sure this is the actual hours. It was a one owner. An older gentleman who after 20 years decided to buy a Zero turn to mow his yard that could have easily been cut with a push mower. The pics are from this morning. The air cleaner assembly is not attached because I'm having to replace the crankcase vent hose. The engine runs great and is very quiet. The hydro is strong, and I do not see any leaks. The mower deck is quiet. The throttle shaft is nice and tight in the carb body, thats a BIG plus. The charging system works as it should. All I have done so far is change the engine oil but will change the hydro fluid and filter this Spring. All the land where the tractor came from is totally flat so the Horse never climbed a hill till it got to my house. Anyway, here are some pics. I have not had time to clean it yet. Hope you like it!

3 pointsIn another post there was conversation on buying American and how some try to do it when they can. I found this website and thought some others might appreciate it as well. I have no association with this site at all. http://www.americansworking.com/

2 pointsHello All, Today I sat and got rather bored and my grandad called me up, he wanted help moving some things about in his workshop, whilst I was up there he showed me what he's been toying about with recently and he's been trying to make a Wheel Horse Clevis hitch, so I thought I'd look at his plans and try my self, now when you see this don't laugh! I know it's not the best but it's a trail run! I've got enough metal to make another when I get round to doing it, I've packed in for the day now but All that's left to do is weld to spacers and the drop pin at the back, it was fairly easy, we had a metal bender and bench drill and all the right tools it took about 3 hours, anyway here's some pictures for you guys! Started with a length of flat iron 34" long Then got to work bending it Then added the pin and the pick up bar Still needs a little playing with, but I like it! P.S Mark your 4x4 is getting rather popular, it popped up on my Facebook newsfeed a moment ago!

2 pointsWith the topic of American made products and Kohler engine differences in mind I was just messing around on the internet this morning. I learned a lot about Kohlers and naturally many of the links I went to were other forums. I would browse the forums just to see what they were like. Without going into detail let me just say that we all should be thankful this forum is run the way it is. Not that there aren't other well run forums out there but a couple of them had me laughing at what was allowed and the rudeness. I was into one of my searches about 20 pages and came across this picture. The posting was dated in 2004. It sure looks like a dandy to restore or use as is.

2 pointsThat bearing should have an eccentric lock collar. That empty hole you put a punch in it, tap with a hammer and turn the collar. then it will all slide apart.

2 pointsGot the motor back together today with the help of a friend. Just have to paint it and put it back together the rest of the way. I still haven't ordered tranny parts so that will probably wait until Thursday. Getting really close on this project! Thanks, Jake

2 pointsI'd listen to Terry's advice Kevin - even when he doesn't know what he is talking about, he still knows twice as much as the rest of us! I agree that 8 speed internals wont go into a 4 speed case. I actually have a 1054 here that has been fitted (badly) with an 8 speed. I haven't had a chance to mess with it much, so I'm sure I haven't seen all the problems with the swap yet. FWIW my tractor doesn't appear to have any spacers fitted to the hubs (I've never pulled off the rear wheels). Caution: Pics of ugliness follow. Pic of holes slotted in the trans mounting plate: The axles are about 1 1/2" too short. I haven't pulled the hubs to see where the setscrew sits on the key: Axle length from underneath: My plan at this stage (keeping in mind I really don't know what I am talking about either!!!) is to switch in a set of D axles. If I had a 953/1054 4 speed I'd use that in a heartbeat, but I would probably switch in an 8 pinion differential.

2 pointsThanks again for all the help - its fully sorted now and works great!

2 pointsTurn the heat and the music up!! Where are the cards at? From the top straight to the bottom. Magic pencil bit the "DUST" is now a memory. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes. In that fire there was no safe place, Up in Smoke!! Isn't that a movie? Got a dvd player or TV down here. Might as well make it enjoyable. As always, Go Hawkeyes!!!

2 pointsAnd it wasn't long ago I was saying four Wheel Horses are enough. I can't even follow my own advice on that!!! I must really be addicted

2 pointsCongrats Jim. I turned 71 this month but I keep putting off my retirement for a couple of reasons. One is a 17 year old daughter/granddaughter who graduates this year and is college bound and two is that I like my job. Best of all I like the feeling that I could retire today if I wanted to. In fact I mention that to the big boss daily. If someone at work asks me when I'm going to retire, I say as soon as one of the a**holes p*ss me off. They've come close a couple of times.

2 pointsI guess I'd better post my Raider 20 6X6 here then You all know the story by now.. It's been dragging on for long enough She started life as a humble and very worn C-125.. A body swap soon had her looking like this... Enter Garry and some beer.. And the idea was born Over four years later she looked like you know her now..

2 pointsLots of hammering and pounding on this one... the entire build is on YouTube (link in signature)... the ultimate goal was to clone the RJ tractor on the cover of Straight From a Horse's Mouth Second Edition and the original 1955 RJ advertisement. The sad thing about the project... my computer took a dump about a month ago and I lost every pic and vid of this project... at least most of the vids are on YouTube and the project its done, LOL!

2 pointsWell I know he won't post it up, so I will do the honors for him. I am proud to have this machine in my collection, even though I am not the creator of it. Many kudos goes out to TT for this custom build which has provided much fun and enjoyment to our family. The infamous "Drags-tor" (the black beauty)

1 pointWell after using my snowblower it's become very clear that I'll need some form of protection from the snow. However this cab is going to be slightly different as I want to be able to remove the front frame work in the summer abd use the top as a sun screen. I'm using electrical conduit for the framework and have black and clear vynil for the skin. Here is the progress so far:

1 pointMartin, I will give it another go tomorrow. When I had the top off, I did not unscrew the jet as you did. I bet I have some crap in mine as well. Thanks for the great pic's and I am enjoying your 416 threads. David
-
1 pointyou may be able to get it clean without removing it....... have 2 416s that needed carb cleaning, as of today both are running very well without removing and soaking the carb....... 416 #1 and 416 #2 ( this one took 2 goes to get it right)

1 pointHere is the result of today's work, the front windshield and legs unbolt from the main frame allowing it to be used in the summer as a sun shade. Still need to add some cross braces for extra strength. Next I'm onto the adding the fabric.

1 pointWhen I get a tractor in with a good USED hyd lift on it I pull everything needed to make the swap, so mine are used kits, but a complete kit non the less.
-
1 pointThe Magnum starter is held to the bearing plate by the long bolts on the opposite end. Link to service manual: http://www.asberry.net/files/TP-2203-A.pdf Section 10A, page 4 You have to remove the dipstick tube (three screws threaded into engine block at bottom casting) and removal of the drive belt cover is extremely helpful but not a necessity - depending on your patience and the contents of your toolbox. The blower housing does not need to be removed from the engine.
-
1 pointNice horse. I have a 96 314H with a Magnum 14 with over a thousand hours and it does not burn a drop of oil.

1 pointVan - nice tractor, let me know when you are ready to work a deal to send it up my way... Bill

1 pointCheck out Zach Kerber for Kohler parts. Fast service, good prices, overall nice guy to deal with. He doesn't have a lot on his website, usually have to call or e mail, but he'll take care of you. http://www.zkbrmachine.com/start-shopping.php

1 pointFINALLY have the crew together (including my 48" squeegee ) for this year's winter weather. It started off nicely in December, and hopefully the rest of winter will be full of snow!
-
1 pointFixed it so far it seems pretty strong now! I added some shims behind the spring on the top valve of the trans. According to the local guru that increases the pressure. He said put a thick one in and if it seems to have too much pressure to take it out and add a thin one. The thick one didnt do a thing so I added two thin ones. Then it started working a bit and just took off. So I removed one thin one, still seemed like a lot of pressure, so then out came the thick one. Maybe by increasing the pressure I dislodged a clog in something? Either way it works great for now. Next time it snows we will see how well it works! Joel

1 pointSmall update, but relatively big in functionality... I now have remote mounted 4 wheel drive selection Almost looks like a factory fitment. Just the brake control linkage to extend now, and the clutch interlock to bypass - somehow I managed to snap the terminal off in fitting the selector linkage :(

1 pointA little late to this thread, but finally got some good pics of my snow herd. Have a c141 with blower, 702 with blade, 401 with blade, and a 867 with grader blade. Whatever these can't handle my dad's 06 Silverado does. lol

1 pointA neat trick that works, put in or take out a little air from the back tires to level out the blade...have to do it to the back tires. You can turn that scrapper bar over to use what is the top edge, if it has not been done already. I also set my blade height a touch off the concrete, with the star wheel, this saves some wear on that edge by taking the weight off the blade. BTW Welcome to Red Square...
