5 pointsHere are a few pics of my center cap that I made for my 520H. The cap is aluminum and glued in place with silicone. Thanks goes out to Glenn Pettit and Terry Denis for getting me the logo to engrave the center cap.

4 pointsPicked up a $50 1848 Workhorse today. PO stated that it came with the house and ran fine until last yr when the starter went out. fluids look fine, engine not seized up came with a dented in lower front 42" RD deck.
-
4 pointsMade a camera mount inside the cab the other day to film the inside operation of controls and so forth. Since the camera is mounted high and I cant see the screen I cant tell if it is indeed recording..... Well low and behold the Camera musta shut offand didn't record anything. It continued to snow and a couple hours later had a few inches. Well the same thing happened but I was able to get at least the last couple minutes worth of filming. Anyways should be able to get some better footage in the next couple weeks while on vacation.

4 pointsThe Neighbors across the street from Craig... Martha! What in tarnation is that gimpy 'such and such' doing doughnuts in the street!!! I's 70 degrees out there and it's Dec and he's riding around on another one of them "lawn mowers"! Whats that, like 10 that he has!?!!?
-
3 pointsWith the temperature up close to 70 degrees, I took the time to make a new edge for my snow/dozer blade. I used a piece of 1/2" thick rubber cut from a 3' x 4' horse stall pad. It took a bit of effort and the one edge is not the cleanest. New 1 1/2" carriage bolts were used to attach it plus it wasn't expensive to do. I'm not sure if it will work and I wonder how long the edge will last. I am trying this as I have two neighbors with newly laid asphalt driveways that I plow that I don't want to damage with the metal edge. If nothing else, I can squeegee the driveways when it rains.

3 pointsWe moved into our house Dec.31, 1969 and that is the only year we didn't decorate for Christmas. Over the years we've added a few things. Our town has had a lighting contest for quite a few years and we finally entered it this year and won first prize. We received a nice certificate and a nicer check for $500. That will almost pay for the electric bill this month..................

3 pointsAs I was surfing the web, I came across a gift, that is PERFECT for Craig.... Craig, if I had the money, this would be my gift for you: http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/02/11/rare-amc-amx3-prototype-on-display-at-chicago-auto-show/ Maybe one day, and until then, Merry Christmas to you!!!! 3 pointsI suppose forums are not necessarily everyones cup of tea, I personally think they are a great way to share information and let folk know what is going on. All we can do is promote this forum in 2014 and see who joins up I'll make sure that any WH relevant article I send to Tractor and Machinery magazine (which seems to be well read in the UK), promotes the forum whenever I can

2 pointsIt's been a busy week at work, but now I'm home for 18 days The weather was good this morning and I went off for another play, my eldest filmed and this is my first attempt using Vegas. I think I might be close to finding the limit of what a 4x4 tractor can do

2 pointsHey, I don't think most of us see ourselves as a separate group! There might be a few thousand miles of ocean, but the power of the inter web brings us bit closer... Gotta love redsquare :)

2 pointsWell, I finally got around to getting the deck painted, and it didn't turn out to bad. It has rust pits in it, but most of them are under the deck, or under the belt guard where people can't see. Its far from perfect, but it will be just fine for a deck that will be used occasionally. I painted the mule drive as well, and installed the "Gary's Case" decals on the front of it. The deck will look better once I install the decals on it. My friend mailed the spindles, and they're scheduled for delivery this Tuesday, but we're going out of town to spend Christmas with my wife's family, so it will be awhile before assembly. Thats ok, it will give the paint plenty of time to harden. Matt

2 pointsExcuse me... of course I was thanking Rob for the thought that counts. Good lookin' out Dino.

2 pointsI know I am going to get some grief on this on, but after taking a tire off today thats been on for twenty years or more, I think its great. My dad gave me the details on what he used to load his tires with "only barn kept ones" and it works great and is enviormental freindly. He takes 4 oz dawn dish soap and 2 oz of isopropanol alcohol to one gallon of water. When figured out this come out to about 50 cents a gallon. He told me how washer fluid can be flamable and tire changing can be dangerous and antifreeze can harm animals, He went on to saying how on older tires this brings back some of the elasticity thats lost with age. He has check his tires at 20 below and no problems , I changed the tire today" just wore out" and the rim looked like new. I know people have rheir opinions and will disagree with this, but I went out mixed some up and filled a set for my self and the tires already are feeling better.I just thiught someone out there may find this as interesting as I did and throw it in their book of knowledge.

2 pointsEverytime he throw a pizza and it's dropped a flag comes out. "Pizza interference, defense no. 22,15 yards, automatic first down!" You boys need to seek professional help.

2 pointsThat last 1/4" is kind of usual of the way things go...probably just the little nubbies that line up the transmission halves. Sometimes just a wiggle will get the job done...I have had to gently tap them also. The seals can go in either before or after...after is probably easier. It is a good idea to bench test your trans before you put it back on the horse. Put on the input pulley, and either replace the shifter or use a large screwdriver to go through the gears. Turn the input shaft counter-clockwise while watching the axles and brake shaft turn. All should shift and move rather easily. Also, while in neutral, grab the axles and turn them...one should go in the opposite direction. If all is smooth and in order...you should be good to go. Congratulations Tom You have to admit...the job is really not that hard, and very satisfying to take apart and fix your own transmission.

-
2 pointsI will search for "kohler", "onan", "briggs" on searchtempest. It will give some results I didnt find using the standard phrases of Wheelhorse, tractor, ETC..

1 pointWhere I live, just around the bend from USMA West Point, NY. 50 miles north of NYC on the mighty Hudson River. My '73 AMC Javelin AMX, fresh from paint back in the fall of '09. My '88 520-H set up for snow duty, fall '10. Out for a stretch today, Jan '11. :banghead:

1 pointDue to working my 312-8 snowblower hard,I smoked a pulley right off. the bearing is still on, but the pulley came off. By the way my nephew left a foot long plastic toy truck in the driveway. It didn't even slow down the blower! Just made a sound......well a sound like a toy truck going through a snowblower!

1 pointEnter "1-0310" for the first one and "1277" for the other. (1077 isn't recognized at the MPV) Serial numbers aren't needed.
-
1 pointAnother thing to keep the chips out is to position the engine with the exhaust valve just as it starts to open and blow air in the exhaust to blow the chips out. Use this a lot on Ford engines.

1 pointThat would be fab to do, but I'd have to bring the missus and kids and it wouldn't be cheap. How cool would that be to catch up with you guys! I actually went out to work in the states 6 years ago, shame I wasn't into WH then...

1 pointDon't know if anyone likes this on ITV , but for me it is one long laugh that hurts my sides and brightens a dull winter night. I'm really looking forward to Thursday 2nd .

1 pointdodgemike is correct ,im also a retired hvy equip operator an disabled vet . I ran just about every piece of equip there is from 82-30 dozers to 72-31 loaders you name it , they will all skid when pushed to the limit . gold rush on cable tv they slide all over the place with d9l cats massive hvy equip . it,s all in the hands of the operator , to me wheel horses seem to work best mowing grass in the summer, my rototiller works really well for my garden , snow blowers work great and snow blades as long as you don,t try to overload them ,make a initial cut then do the final cut . in my years of running hvy equip I learned to slow down and make as many cuts as needed ,you,ll slide less an do a better smoother straighter job , patients prevailes . you can add all the wts front an rear and put on tires with special chains or whatever but I guarantee you it will still slide . what ever you can do to help it is fine . I personally wont put pounds of weights on the tractors I have weights just on the wheels and the wheel horse front wt kit ,that's it. too much wt an you,ll be fix n a axle or spindle real soon. my mighty mac chipper shredder works really good, last year built a 3 pt hitch for my 520h works good my loader tractor 520h works good but slides some in sand or dirt ,snow . when I haul wood with my 312 and trailor I load it up hvy and it does slide I just put it in lower gears an go slow usually ok . good new tires will also make a big difference

1 pointCool Craig!!! You got a twin cylinder now Seriously though, do you have enough room to keep all the Wheel Horses you have now??? I'm glad you overfilled the oil pan a little. I know you need to there where you live.

1 pointCoadster I done the same thing with some Bosch Platinum 2s I inherited for some reason, made some rings for them much like you did just to see if they would work in my 857 mow tractor, Started much better and had 1 in tat tractor for quit some time and it worked just great,no fouling and after many hours the plug looked much like the day I put it in. Now I don't know if this was due to the plug in the chamber a little farther or the bosch plug. Just don't know !! The only reason I don't have it in the tractor now is because It gave me a fit not running right later on and to eliminate all possibilitys I went back to original plug but found my problem was fuel related and just never changed back. But I would run these plugs again any day.

1 pointI have a pull behind lawn sprayer with a five foot boom on the back of it. That switch turns the boom on and off. The third pic is the electric valve that turns the boom on and off. No probably not. I kind of like the dull look.

1 pointI think its great if you can quit smoking , I started smoking when i was 23 & quit when i was 47 . I quit because i had a sore throat that just wouldnt get better , this started to play mind games with my head by thinking it was more serious than it actually was . this was the scare that i needed to quit my addiction . I went to the doctors with my worries about my sore throat & he asked a series of questions & one of the questions was , was i a heavy smoker . my reply was , what do you call a heavy smoker , he relied , 10 to 15 per day would be classed as heavy smoker . I smoked 30 to 35 a day . naturally i was scared & it was my this that made me quit & the sore throat was just an infection caused by smoking . If you can manage to use the E cigs then i would say that has to be a better option & then move onto quiting alltogether . We all know that smoking isnt good for us , just dont leave it too late to quit . And sorry this isnt anthing to do with the question that Kaiser asked ,but i think it is also relevant

1 pointCongragulations Craig!!! I will be getting up early tomorrow to see those pics

1 pointWas that the C-175 in Amsterdam on the Albany, NY Craigslist? There was one listed there that appeared to be in beautiful condition and the listing was only up a few hours? It also looked like the large plastic fender was in good condition which is very rare. That was a lot of tractor for the money if you got it. No problem with the KT17 Series I as long as you know the running on incline limitations.
-
1 pointKind of surprised nobody's really chiming in on this...especially the puller gents. Anyhow, I have three hours on this 855 tractor with the longer plug. It starts up pretty easy, and runs really good. I pulled the plug out of my 854, and of course it was a shorty..(rj8c). Both tractors are running well, so I'm just going to keep things the way they are. Still wondering though. The black lines represent the head width. The bottom plug is the stock plug recommended by Kohler. The depth in the head of this plug is shown in the first blurred picture in this thread. The top plug is the longer reach plug, with a washer I made up added to it. I switch the crush washer position with the washer I made so the crush washer goes against the head...(of course). Only the electrode sticks out of the head into the chamber. I know three hours isn't a lot of time, but thought it would have fouled out by now if this was the case...especially since I have been snow throwing with it. I had it idling for some time as well, just to see.

1 pointUPDATE: My brother stopped over. He picked up my gear oil. SAE 85W-90. Soooooo that's what went in it. Lol Glenn

1 pointLane ranger you could not have been more correct. 1 washer the size of a quarter and I am in business. Also I figured out how to adjust the threaded pto lever a few turns because I wasn't locking the pto in the on position. I also realized I bent my plow lift lever,I put a piece of fence pole on it and bent it back I to shape, which allowed my button to be able to be pressed. I can't get it to lock in the up position, but I used it and it worked like a champ! I paid 75$ for the 312-8 in the fall of 2012 and the snowblower for 75$ also. But didn't run it last year due to surgery. Man I get it all now. I picked the wheelhorse because it was a great price, but after going thru it and seeing the practical engineering I am so lucky I just kind of To"Forest Gumped" my way into the world of wheelhorse but I am loving it. Thanks everyone
