7 pointsIt's been a busy week at work, but now I'm home for 18 days The weather was good this morning and I went off for another play, my eldest filmed and this is my first attempt using Vegas. I think I might be close to finding the limit of what a 4x4 tractor can do

4 pointsWow, you guys got alot of other cool hobbies! My other hobbies include vintage Briggs engines from the 30's- 50's, as wells as mini bikes that I build with my sons. Here are a few. Matt

3 pointsi guess i haven't reached that stage yet where i can think about getting rid of some, my wife is getting concerned that its getting out of control........ i want to keep all of them.......

3 pointsI smoked for over 45 years, most of those years 2 plus packs a day, and I can tell you no e-cig was going to help me quit. I liked smoking. Oh I tried a few times to stop but didn't last more than two weeks. You can try all the methods you can think or read about, and I hope one of them will help you quit, permanently. I do not condemn anyone for smoking and I don't preach about it, but I offer my sincere encouragement and hope for all who try to quit. Nothing works to stop you like being told you have lung cancer, a tumor the size of a baseball in your lung. It is a cold, ruthless shock to the system to hear those words, even though I really already knew. Suffice it to say that I was very lucky to be able to have surgery to remove it over two years ago and I'm doing ok. After the surgery my son got on chantix and within a few weeks was off both it and the smokes. Hoping my two oldest daughters will kick the habit also. My wife doesn't smoke at home or in front of me, but still has a couple a day. I offer encouragement to her. She was sure there for me. So use any method you can to quit smoking, and know that you can do it. I would love to visit this thread a year from now and see that all of you have stopped.
-
3 pointsOk folks, So I went down to NAPA and got the proper heli coil kit to fix the stripped threads. Got it home, took the head off and went to work. It worked like a charm and was able to salvage the head so I put it back on, put the plug back in and wah-la......started right up with out hesitation. That was a lot easier than I had anticipated. Groovy,.....back in business, Bring on the snow. Lol.
-
2 pointsTry pulling it off and submerging it in a pan of "antifreeze". (ethylene glycol) I had a low-hanging shift cable freezing up on a utility vehicle at work and it hasn't done it since I gave it a soaking.

2 pointsSmoked 20 years and stopped a couple times....my downfall was alcohol...took away my self control.....so I quit drinking......then the smoking just faded on its own......been sober since 91 and haven't smoked since 92.....actually was smoking a pipe when it ended...... I don't buy the stress deal.....just a denial excuse......hey...I used all kind of excuses for my addictions and still do.....but they are just denial excuses...when you own your addictions then, and only then, you can control them......

2 pointsI was a smoker myself, as little as 10 yrs ago. In the early yrs. I didn't even smoke a pack a day, most days around 10. I had quit a few times, a few times cold turkey and once with the patch. When I quit it wasn't just a few days it was at least 5 yrs. at a clip without touching a smoke. The last time I started smoking again went like this... It was snowing like crazy, I worked on the snow crew at the Danbury Mall. I drove a loader with a 22 ft blade and I was also in charge of keeping the equipment going.Well that day sucked, I was getting a call on my radio every ten minutes it seemed from the guys that ran the trucks with the sanders pissin and moaning that their sanders were jammed up or some other silly problem. I'd get so friggin mad it wasn't funny. Instead of making a commotion over the radio I'd drive a truck over to their "situation." How many times do you have to tell someone that they can climb up into their sander and un- jamb it just as well as I can without stangling them? A lot of guys are totally useless, some are capable, just plain lazy and don't want to be in the cold. Anyway, I finally get to head on over to my loader and fire it up. I climb on up into the cab and have a seat and there they are, my old brand of smokes, a fresh pack too with a new lighter included...How nice of someone..Either someone left them there from the night before or the Devil himself put em there... I fired up my loader and figured what the Hell, might as well fire one of these up as well. I had been quit for over 7 yrs... I went thru that whole pack of cigs that day and another pack as well. Its so easy too burn thru a few packs while driving a loader or a plow truck all day or all night. I continued on that course for another 3 years until I thought I'd have a heart attack. I quit cold turkey, AGAIN. Been almost ten yrs. now. I do still enjoy a cigar or two a day but I'll jump off a bridge before I pick up another cigarette...

2 pointsAutoparts stores sell helicoil kits to repair spark plug threads. The kit will include the special tap and an insertion tool, and sometimes the right size drill bit for enlarging the hole. They come in several different sizes to suit the various sizes of spark plug.

2 pointsVery true Craig. I've often wondered about trying to kick the addiction to nicotine with nicotine but my wife and I tried the ecigs as well. The first ones we bought seemed fine for a while but they were of a low quality and had issues. We quit using them and went back to the real thing. Then we tried a different brand of ecigs. They were made much better and worked better as well. But it didn't take long for both of us to go back to the real ones again. I did use the ecigs in my truck on a trip to Indiana a while back since we don't smoke in the vehicles or house. A 'fill in' as Richard said. As with most folks that try to quit, we both used every excuse we could muster up to "just have one". Well, that doesn't work. At this point, knowing we need to quit, we've agreed on a New Years resolution. This time there's no rule bending allowed. Yea, most New Years resolutions aren't kept but we really do want to quit so why not try again. One of these times we'll make it. As far as the health issues of ecigs, I just read an FDA report. They flat out don't know the ill effects and don't regulate them. They are doing intensive research and expect to have the reports out soon. I don't like more government regulations but it would be nice to know what's in them things and is it bad for you.

2 pointsSpoiler Alert !! If you still believe in Santa Claus, you should stop reading now. Many have said that this is the model that "They should have made". It's built from what I consider the best features from several eras. I give you the 595-HD ... The chassis started out as a C-195: The 520 hood was just a LITTLE short to fit the chassis: The 20hp Onan had to be relocated to keep it centered under the hood louvers: The gear reduction steering had to be stretched a bit also: Stock width wheels? Not exactly... 52" Hi-Vac deck converted from a zero turn model: Size comparision vs a stock 520: It's got to be real... The book says so

1 pointI gave up on Windows completely in 2007. I spent WAY too much time fixing, downloading drivers, updating and eventually the occasional re-install of the OS. My first Mac was a 20" iMac. Since I bought it I think that it's hung once where the power button had to be pressed to free it up, other than that it just works! Kids now a days have a lot of homework which requires a computer, so late 2011, I bought a Macbook Pro laptop. Again I couldn't be happier (except when liquid spilled and fried the mother board). The computer is fast and super reliable. This year for Christmas I got my son and me a Mac Mini. This will be hooked up to the television and server as a 3rd computer as well as a media center, central backup and Minecraft server. The Mac Mini is going to be perfect since it's low power consumption and virtually silent when running. Can't wait to unwrap this and put it to use! Oh, and for you Windows guys, it'll be fitted with VMWare Fusion and multiple versions Windows (still have to get a windows 7 key though) If you're on the fence about a computer, consider a Mac, yes they're more expensive but the thing just works!

1 pointI picked up a 312 today. It needs a couple things but only has 636 hours on it. Came with a tall chute blower. I have a 42 inch deck for it that looks new. I also have a 54 inch blade. I should have plenty to play with....

1 pointI just got my calendar today .Of course I'm thrilled to see my tractor on the cover, but my wife maybe even more so - she's showing everybody proudly - can you imagine that? She's a keeper, I guess.

1 pointRemove the air cleaner cover and filter and loosen the screws holding the air cleaner base to the carb. If the choke shaft frees up, one or both of the screws in line with the choke shaft are too long.

1 pointAwesome...awesome...awesome, what can I say? Other than, put fire in the hole and this roars like a beast! (It does too) I hate posting someone's elses picts...though I did swipe them from her Ebay ad. So, for now...the teasers will have to do until the light of day tomorrow.

1 pointMy first AMC blackhood. Confirmed now...it's an '83 model C-175. Man, does this thing sing like a beast!

1 pointThat looks like the C-175 that was just on ebay, yes? Looked like a very nice machine. Good luck with it.

1 pointHi Matt, Just curious. Is the Fuel drawn up by vacuum to a Spray Bar in the Carb on this Smart one?. As I also see there is no Fuel Bowl visible ...... They are ALL great looking Engines. Like the 'Carry Plinths' too Yes Richard, its uses vacuum to draw the fuel to the carb, and actually these weren't really even considered carburetors. They were just mixers. Its simplicity at its finest. Matt

1 pointCareful C-101. John Deere did make a few with a cream 'body' and rims and stuck a few different color hoods on them. They had red, blue and I believe orange. Proof positive that just covering the green and yellow doesn't improve them.

1 pointI don't have a problem with will-power, its the wont-power that always gets me.... I've been smoking 30 years or so. Quit a few times, but never more than a few months at the most. I have talked to a few people lately that have quit with the help of Chantix. It seems to have worked for them so far, but its only been a few months. Can anyone recommend a "good" E-cigarette? I have a suspicion that I might try a cheapy and decide that its not going to work for me, and ditch the idea.

1 pointLoved to watch them when I was stationed in UK... If I had the weekend off, I'd find the closest WRC and head to it. Unfortunately my WRC favorites were banned... RS200... What a car... 4cyls. of nothing put pure adrenaline rush. Rally Group B cars forged the way to what WRC is today. Many were hopped up well beyond what the drivers responses could handle... Case in point of the RS200...In 1986 in Portugal, an RS200 was involved in one of the most horrific accidents in history of WRC. Killing 3 spectators and several others were injured. Later that same year a Swiss Formula 1 driver, Marc Usrer <SP? lost control and slammed into a tree at nearly 120mph... Exploding on impact and killing driver and co-driver instantly... Very unfortunate...Last time I saw an RS200 was on display in Milton Keynes. Completely dressed for WRC. Putting out, according to the owner, 550hp...You guys have all the fun when it comes to this type of racing..... We have some awesome country roads in the corn belt, would love to see a WRC take place in some of those states. Also in Montana... NO speed limit......Rambling, I know....

1 pointI do recall people using ATF as a "Top Oil" to clead up the carbon in the valve train years back, never did so myself. If you are talking about long term storage I would suggest you remove all of the gas from your tank, get some ethanol free gas in the tank and run it long enough to be sure the carb. has no more E-10 in it. If you want to use an additive SeaFoam is the best. You can find out where to get ethanol free gas at buyrealgas.com, put in your Zip code and it will give you a list of stations in your area.

1 pointFinally. Pictures of my snow equip. I want to point out the plows not hooked up. J/K. Lol Glenn
-
1 pointHeres my plower…at least until the 18 Auto makes its way home from the doctor. 1971 Charger 12 Automatic, wheel weights from a 1974 C-160, chains from an old Buick that I shortened to fit the tires and a 42" plow from 1969…or at least thats what I was told about the blade. SHe clears my half mile long driveway and does a great job except for the bald front sneakers that cause her to slide with an angled blade and a full head of snow… It is a great runner for a $175 because it didnt run when I got it
-
1 pointI feel for you guys...I've read, studies say, for a number of reasons...nicotine is more addictive than heroin... meaning, harder to kick. I think, in order to stop...you have to get to the point in your life, where you say "I'm stronger than a cigarette"... enough is enough. Good luck, keep trying...you can do it, don't give up.

1 pointWell I smoked for 45 years . Lived on them and Coffee over the last 6 years of working life. Helped me psychologically to deal with the Stress, long hours and c+%p diet. Changed to Roll Ups when I retired and as I became more relaxed etc, I really enjoyed them, but seemed to smoke less. Then one day, I ran out of 'Bakky' after getting home from cutting the 2 1/2 Acres of grass back in end of last April and just didn't bother buying any more!...... Been clean ever since!. I don't miss them and I can tolerate others smoking around me without any cravings. Several people around me use the 'Leccy Cigs', but almost as a 'Fill In' hit when they are prevented from using the Hot ended ones!. I admire the people who try hard and have a hard time kicking the habit, but you'll get there. I have to say that I (think) I miss the occasional Cigar to have a puff on, Tempting to get one at Christmas.
-
1 pointI was thinking the same! Cheers Consider it done sir! Gotta give some people a run off their money gotta give you some credit for inspiring me, talked about this for a few years and seeing your engineering ingenuity got me off to a good start! Thanks, think that's one of my favourite shots! Of course, it will work with a hitch! Can't get a cutter deck or snow plough but it would sure pull a plough :)

1 pointNot really a hobby, but when not messing on horses we are usually working at our blueberry farm. My parents own 20 acres of blueberries and it takes most of our time when the snow is not on the ground. We usually harvest Around 200,000 lbs of blueberries each year. We stay very busy in the summer. and this is what we harvest with. These machines are made here in the same town as us, they shake the bushes back and forth, and then the berries fall onto a conveyor belt that runs back to where you see us standing. We usually run the machine with 5 guys, unless it is the final pick when there is not many berries left. We run over everything 3 times with the machine. my dad drives it, I run one side, my brother runs one side....and two other guys each work on each side and grab the containers of berries and stack them on the trailers. The last picture shows part of our farm, tried to attach it the other way, but must of did something wrong. lol

1 pointSome random thoughts The other half of the capacity calculation is determined by the number / strength of the magnets on the flywheel. A picture of the magnets in your flywheel may add additional information to allow a ore educated guess on the capacity of the charge coils. Even a full wave rectifier will not give you "pure" DC. The output of a regulator / rectifier or a full wave bridge will still be a pulsed DC waveform. If you add a lead acid battery to the output of the RR or full wave bridge, the battery will act as a very large capacitor and will smooth out the pulsed waveform to ALMOST "pure" DC. A true test of the charge capacity of the stator can be found by draining the staring battery down to 10.0 volts and monitoring the charge current going into the battery from the stator. Stator output less then 13.8 volts will not fully charge a lead acid battery properly. If you do the lamp test, the stator current output will only be useful until the stator voltage drops below 13.8 volts. Your multimeter may give you odd / unpredictable measurements reading pulsed dc into an inductive lamp load. The lighting stator wiring is a different story. If you find the brightness of the headlights to be acceptable for your use when the stator voltage is less then 12 volts, then you may be able to squeeze a bit more current from the stator. Google INDUCTIVE REACTANCE if you are into electronics. Each stator pole is an inductor. Since the stator is actually an AC generator, the inductive reactance value of the stator wires to AC current flow will tend to allow the stator to protect itself from excessive current demands (the more current demanded from the stator the larger the voltage drop within the stator - at some point a max current will be encountered due to the stator wire resistance / reactance). The small notch in one of the stator poles will have no real world performance effect. It's probably there as an orientation mark in some other system. For the purpose of mounting the stator on a Kohler engine. orient the stator to allow convenient wiring dress from the stator thru the bearing plate. You can easily see if you fasten the stator in a different orientation, the wiring will not leave the stator and proceed directly to the hole in the bearing plate.
