3 pointsSpecial Notice!! A lot of folks wanting calendars are posting their orders in the picture thread. Please if you want a calendar, P.M me. I don't want to miss anybody and I'm not always looking at the picture thread. Thanks for your understanding Mike

3 pointsAlways been fascinated with things in miniature and seem to manage and learn all things practical with reasonable ease for most of my life. Ended up being a 'Tool Freak' and precision work like Model Engineering. This is my 1" scale 'Still yet to finish Project' - My recent excuse has been The 2 WHs taking up my time and getting the Workshop straight. I have a degree of reluctance to actually paint it due to the array of wonderful coloured metals and finishes, but I will. I also changed the design to improve detail which made more work for myself.. The not-so-good Pics were taken some time ago and some progress made. The Boiler has been Tested and Certificated for 50psi running steam pressure. I just don't learn do I !.

2 pointswell after a challenging day I decided to try the plow on since we got heavy wet snow coming well figured everything out between the rear hitch bracket and plow frame, after looking at a lot of pics here the swivel head fo the plow rod hitch pin was a little tricky had to take that back off after I got it going the right way ended up using the 520 angle arm and works pretty good, not as awkward as I thought it was going to be so got everything adjusted because the first real prob I had I had to readjust the slack on the eye bolt almost all the way to the top then finally hitched up but aanyways I got it and works great we'll see what happens tomorrow

2 pointsYea yea yea, you post this junk every year, same old same old, yesterday's news. Now is what's relevant, this year, today. You want to take credit for something you weren't even alive to see. It 2013 not 1898. But I guess this is what happens when your team can't cut the mustard, and you don't have the stones to get in and pick em yourself, yet here you are coming in at the end for no other reason than to yank my chain, and draggin with you the same old tired stats you posted the last two years. If you wanna talk stats, talk about recent stats that are relevant to today. Urban Meyer, 24 straight wins in two years, Brady Hoke, 26 wins in three years. Bucks won the last 2 out of 3. Funny, you didn't mention that, or the 29-6 drubbing MSU put on ya this year. And for the record, OSU and MSU are not both my teams. Like I told ya, I only have one. I'm not a ship jumper. What's on YOUR flagpole? . ...

2 pointsI managed to spend a couple hours working on the Case this afternoon. Finished bolting up most of the accessories to the engine, carb, muffler, shroud, etc.. Also added a few more decals, and I love the way new decals set a tractor off. Matt

2 pointsTwo weeks ago, Auburn was not even in the conversation for the Championship...so much for all those ESPN know it alls. You've got to love college football. Congratulations to MSU on their Big Ten Championship. They did not really win anything...they would have gone to the Rose Bowl win or loose. The only thing that happened...the Big Ten teams that go to the bowls this year will all be the under dogs. The Big Ten needs to win a bunch of these games to have any credibility. Eight teams are bowl eligible...I would think that either Michigan or Penn St. will be playing in Detroit against a MAC team...maybe not. The lowest teams bowl bound are 7-5...if we had one sitting at 6-6, they may not even be bowling this year. MSU beating Ohio St. was not good for the conference...except maybe it kept us out of the Championship Game and from looking completely inept. :)

2 pointsFigures, we haven't heard from you all season, and I've never heard you mention Michigan State with anything other than disdain and now all of a sudden they are your "Other Michigan Team". Talk about fanning the fair weather...

2 pointsIt adds a "running light" in the headlight bezel. On my 518xi, I purchased some sockets and bulbs from an auto parts store to make my own. I can't say that it was worth the effort. But on the 520xi that is my plow tractor, I am installing some inexpensive LED strobe flashers. I figure it will be handy at the end of the driveway.

2 pointsDon't know how I missed this thread, but this is Great!!! Its another example of the friendships here on Steve, I am super happy for you, and looking forward to you seeing me clearly next June
-
2 pointsLike I have said... They are not and have not been a #2 team. BCS get's what they want, FSU vs. Auburn Title Game....Bucks,,just like Cleveland teams, disappoint you in the end. You get your hopes up only to be let down...They didn't just loose, they got crushed. I'd like to see FSU vs. MSU... With that defense, I really think MSU could make it a great game. As it stands, will be something similar to the Auburn vs. Mizz. score.....

2 pointsWell, the Buckeyes great run of wins has ended. Michigan State outplayed us tonight without a doubt. This will no doubt dash the Buck's hopes of playing in the National Championship game. The Spartans are off to the Rose Bowl, and well have to see where the Buckeyes end up in the Bowl Game picture. Congratulations to the BIG Champion Michigan State Spartans!

2 pointsThanks for the input fellas, mad max was the first thing that came to mind when I saw that first pic too. At least they didn't butcher a wh to set that rig up. That being said. It looks like a marvel of American ingenuity. AMERICA!! Thanks for the post I have decided to go with the trailer mount just so it will be more versatile.

2 pointsHere's my frame. Fixed up and ready to go! I think this will be just about as strong as new!! Just have to prime and paint the back again :(

1 pointSaw this article on line... http://www.enginerepairshop.com/automotive-machine-shops.html got me to thinking...I wonder if our members could share any tips/experience that would help one to choose the best machine shop locally for rebuilding a tractor's small engine?

1 pointBeen down in the 20's the last few days and went out tonight to swap out the 30w for some 5w-30 in the 314-8 (Kohler M14). After wrestling with my IH Cub Cadets and Simplicity, it was a pleasure to simply unscrew a pipe plug, drain the oil, refill. No subframes to remove, drain plug on the side of the engine, easy access to drain. Other simple things come to mind - like no speparate subframe for mower deck and front blade, heck - no subframes at all. No need to pull the engine to replace the clutch or hydro fan. Crazy simple PTO, easy to service and adjust - no special tool required. Flip the hood and almost total access to the engine. Problem with the driveshaft, pull the engine to service. Problem with the drive belt, easy replacement - engine stays put. Pretty simple. Am I missing anything? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Bill

1 pointGreat idea Craig! Sort of like the dealer list we have. I know I might need one shortly and my hometown shops have dryed up. The pullers in my area all use a fellow in Oh about 4 hrs away. Oops I guess I read it wrong the first time. I was thinking a Shop list My problem is my small engine shops have dissappeared. The people have retired and the throw away machines have put some out of business. Even the good Auto machine shops have moved.

1 pointJim...you could always help me root for Illinois...and who ever plays Michigan... Bob...Duff won the bowl picks last year...I hope he gets in to defend his crown.
-
1 pointThanks Steve. I'll get the bearing ordered tomorrow, yes I believe that all the other bearings are in good condition. I didn't see the washer in my manual but it has been copied so much that it is not real clear, I'll check again. I really appreciate your help.
-
1 pointBob...I totally agree with you on who you root for...only I would add Michigan to my list...along with Ohio St. and ND. :) The bowl pairings should come out this week. So, I root for Illinois and Northwestern, NIU and everyone that is playing Michigan, Ohio St. and ND...did I mention that I am also very fond of Wisconsin. It's been a very long season for me. The highlight of my season this year...NIU beating IOWA. Like Jim said...NEXT YEAR!!

1 pointHey Steve: This is a great set of transmission "How to's"! You again are doing all of us a service. One question I had. Where KUDZU had the crack, break in the axle near the woodruff key slot there might be some other fixes. One, couldn't you just have a new slot for a woodruff key machined into the axle on the other side and two, what about using J.B. Weld on the crack and sanding down the ridges or burrs?

1 pointI sandblasted mine and painted it with a paint that looks like raw casting. Looks like it just came out of the foundry with no rust.

1 pointNot to but I'm going to so hand me a stick! There isn't a good running 12 HP WH Garden Tractor that is going to be under-powered mowing a hilly lawn. Honestly Glenn, when you asked all of us for our opinions, we are giving you what we consider to be our best choices mostly based on us being in the seat of many different WH tractor/motor configurations. But if you were a golfer and asked a site full of Golf Pro's their opinion about a swing, well, if you took all their advice, you would be lucky to even hit the ball let alone keep in on the fairway! A 12 horse power Wheel Horse with a Magnum or K series engine in good running condition with a 42 inch deck will do what you need it to do for a long, long time. If you see a 312-8 or 312-H or a C120 8 speed in good condition for a good price, don't hesitate to buy it. Naturally a 14 horse power Kohler is even better! Many people start out Wheelhorse ownership with an Onan-powered monster with the so-called advanced electrical systems or a D series monster with their own set of issues and they can be nightmares to folks not accustomed to cursing and swearing, woops........I mean dealing with and working around problems that really don't exist with simpler-designed C-Series or Kohler powered 300 series tractors. Just keep this thought when looking: A 12 horsepower K or Magnum series motor in a WH Garden tractor will mow a hilly lawn. I know! I mowed a very hilly shale bank lawn that far exceeded the pitch to safely mow with a C-175 and a C-120. Both tractors mowed it just fine. Both tractors had similar 42 inch SD decks and which tractor paid the price for mowing across and up/down my lawn? My twin-powered C-175. (Needed a top-end rebuild due to oil starvation caused by the hills).
-
1 pointYes those pans were on the tractors with the shaker mounting plate. Just had to buy one a couple months ago for a K-341 I put in a C-175. Buy the way, if anyone is going to do that change you will need a different shaker plate also. The one for the K-17 does not have the cut-out for that pan. Just thought it would save someone else that headache.

1 pointMy driveway is 300 feet long. At the beginning of the season I usually start off by plowing from the west side moving the snow to the east side so as not to fight the wind when it blows. My blade is always angled as far as it will go. Sometimes depending on the depth I might only take a foot of snow otherwise it spills out on the long end of the blade. Other times I may move as much as I can and come back a second time just to clean up. I go as fast as I can too. Front tires really make a difference and so does some weight. Last year I had my ribbed Vredestein tires on the front. This year I have turf tires on and will likely take them off and put the Vredesteins back on. I can't steer nearly as well with the turf tires. I built a front centre pin and weight bracket so I could move more snow without being pushed off course. It really makes a difference with some weight out front. When the snow begins to build I change up to the blower. As our winters change it seems we get cold and so for a few days and then rain. Having the ability to plow is really handy. This year I am going to try a single stage because it is easier to take on and off as well as store. These photos are taken over different winters with two tractors.

1 pointWe had a similar thing happen with a truck that hauled scrap metal. The tarp/netting material that covered the load, fell down into the drive shaft, and wound up so tight it killed the engine. Took me about 2 1/2 hrs with a air powered cutoff wheel, to get it off and the drive shaft removed. It ended up bending the drive shaft.

1 pointNot really a hobby, but when not messing on horses we are usually working at our blueberry farm. My parents own 20 acres of blueberries and it takes most of our time when the snow is not on the ground. We usually harvest Around 200,000 lbs of blueberries each year. We stay very busy in the summer. and this is what we harvest with. These machines are made here in the same town as us, they shake the bushes back and forth, and then the berries fall onto a conveyor belt that runs back to where you see us standing. We usually run the machine with 5 guys, unless it is the final pick when there is not many berries left. We run over everything 3 times with the machine. my dad drives it, I run one side, my brother runs one side....and two other guys each work on each side and grab the containers of berries and stack them on the trailers. The last picture shows part of our farm, tried to attach it the other way, but must of did something wrong. lol

1 pointOne thing you will learn plowing , Push back far enough on the first snow so you don't run out of room by the end of snow season. You aren't going to be moving 3 months of snow if you run out of room.

1 pointi have bought quite a few duffers , sold them to get what i have now . I also sold a few that i didnt really wanna sell but i had to to get to what i ultimatley wanted . -
1 pointI don't know...sold my C-160 this year. Then, turned around and replaced it with another RJ, a 603, and now the 1267. So much for making a little room around here.

1 pointImmaculate, you kept track of the number of rounds of golf, did you keep track of the hours that was spent on this restoration or when you started the tear-down? Mark.

1 pointWell, if anyone is wondering, I had to put everything on hold due to some unexpected surgery (nothing serious), so now I am getting started again. I have decided to put the trans on hold for awhile, because I discovered more serious engine issues. I filled the trans (again) with diesel and am letting it "soak" until everything else is finished. The tractor is coming apart in a few days and will undergo a complete restoration. I will have to go into the engine so figured this to be a good time to do everything. This will be my first, and I hope to do the work myself , so I will probably be seeking advise here in the future. Steve your knowledge and your willingness to share it is greatly appreciated . If I can figure out how, I hope to post some pictures soon, thanks. OP
