gentleman and ladies, i am a new member. finally decided to get a REAL machine. The horse is my favorite. i have been reading Red Square for a while, i like the members and the information provided. i have been reading the classifieds, saw a few horses i liked and will continue scouting until i take the plunge. you cant beat a well built workhorse. i can see allready this will turn into another hobby for me and i will be asking for help from time to time. anyway theres my intro. and i am glad to be onboard. Since the winter is getting closer i had to put some tractors in storage. I have a storage room in the same building as the garage / workshop. which should be slightly warmed up just so it's degrees above zero not sure yet if i have time to do it before it's get to cold.. made a shelf in there this summer to have the suburban 551, so I can get a tractor under it well she's on the way up.. whit out any problem's thanks to this winch im going to mount it on the wall later because that will be much better.. and here she is on her storage place And she got company of 3 other horses in there to and if i do some more cleaning i can can get 1 more horse in there... Most of them were "buy-it-now" for $35.00. A few days ago someone took the old rusted, crippled deck for an A 800 Ranger. Probably not to popular a model ????? The happy buyer just left my home in NW Ohio...he left Baltimore . Maryland at 6 AM this morning, arrived here 12 hours later and after visiting a few minutes said he had to get started back home !!!! When I asked if this was his longest trip he said no...it was the one to Texas..... 1325 miles round trip for a $35.00 deck that hundreds of other guys looked at but decided the price was wrong ??????? If anybody knows "CRAIG" (not a red square member) from Baltimore, tell him he WINS THE PRIZE !!!

Here's another scammer story: Posted Yesterday, 05:53 PM "I ran an ad in the Lawn & Garden Tractor magazine. Got a call over today that first got me excited.....then I realized it was TOO good to be true. Problem is, I wanted it to be true, so you tend to try to rationalize it out. Here's how it went.....I got the model you are looking for. It was my fathers he collected them for over 40 years. He said all the right things...but where he messed up, he tried to push me to make it all happen asap. I told him I travel up into that area and could probably arrange to pick it up, he quickly said I have a friend for 40 years that hauls down your way and he just happens to be going your way this week......it kept getting better.....the truck was actually coming with in 25 miles of my house. All I had to do was pay the freight by western union, and I could write a check for the tractor and send it to him after I had received the tractor......now why would anyone send a gt hundreds of miles away and only want the freight up front?? Cause all he was hoping to get was the freight. I sure wanted it to be true, but I did not call him back since I felt it was just a waste of time....bummer..... I am only posting this so those who may have not already been in this situation can head it off at the pass....... ALL MY LIFE I HAVE LIVED BY THE CREED IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. SOMETHING IS WRONG. Never let someone push you to close a deal. Ask why does it happen to have to be done this fast??? I see it in my business too, the more they push to speed it up, the more I push to slow it down." BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

Really?? The homeowner is not allowed in the meter socket here in Connecticut, and even if you were that's another illegal hookup. I find it hard to believe thats allowed anywhere (willing to bet its not allowed in any state). The interlock setup is the best method on the market right now and its totally legal. There is absolutely no way a mistake could be made and power back-fed to the lines. I have an older setup in my house, its a 200amp whole house manual transfer switch. If I'm not home my son, wife, father, father-in-law etc....can use it and there's no chance it can get screwed up. When the word illegal is thrown around to describe these hook-ups its not done to label the hook-up but to assign blame. If you were to hook-up an illegal generator setup and you (or your wife, son, father, father-in-law..etc...) screws up and backfeeds a line and someone gets hurt or killed YOU are liable! Any money you saved will be surpassed by the lawsuit. It amazes me that guys will go out and plop down big money on a generator and then cheap out on the hook-up. Mike..........

This little rig was built from spare parts to cruise around at the tractor/engine shows. Powered by a Kohler M8. Lots of fun to drive. Technically not a "worker" but it worked to ride me around instead of walking

So far things are going well with Maci's 1056. The choice of color was pink. Trying to get all paint work completed before the cold/wet weather sets in. Tranny has been flushed, all seems good and was able to prime it today.

Matt, I am very sorry for your loss of a very dear friend. My prayers go out to his family and yours as well. This tractor will be a very special project for you. Take your time. You don't have to spend a fortune to get it up and running. Or make it pretty. Every time you work on it, no matter how much or how little, you maybe will find yourself talking to or just remembering Gary. That time is worth every minute. After my friend passed away earlier this year, His family asked me to take his WH stuff as they didn't need it. Since then I have used alot of the parts to repair or get a few of his tractors running for them. A couple of his brothers are now using these tractors. That makes me proud. Enjoy the project. I've started the teardown, and so far so good. I'm very pleased with how things are looking, although its going to need a couple bushings at the bottom of the levers that control both the drive, and the deck raise, and lower. The replacement gas tank from Joe's Outdoor Power came in, and seems to be in good shape. The new motor mounts came in as well. I'm starting to feel a little older, as I went to lift the K301 out of this Case today, and my back screamed NO! Back when I rebuilt the K301 in my , I lifted it out , put it on my bench, and set it back in my Horse when it was time. as you can see by the pics, I ended up using my engine hoist. yes it is possibel to do that.. to get it apart but when you put it together you need to have the shallow side of the tranny down

OK i think i know what spring you are referring to now. well the way i did it was kind of a two man job. I did it by myself though. I took a pipe wrench with a piece of added pipe for added leverage and put it on that dog leg piece that the front idler hub is mounted to and applied downward pressure now i tied the wrench down to hold it in this position. then removed the big adjustment bolt that attaches to the dogleg piece. one that was removed i released the tension and the dog leg piece can be removed followed by the spring.hope this helps. i would be interested in seeing a closeup of your dogleg pieces mine have many bad repairs just like the whole machine. I see you have the belt pulley attachment but it is capped off.(housing in front of transmission.) i had to have a new shaft from the clutch to the transmission made. It was much cheaper just to remove the worn bevel gears inside the housing and run a single shaft strait through to the transmission rather than making the gears. So we just capped the hole of where the belt pulley shaft came out. So far i have rebuilt the tracks rear sprockets soon the fronts, idlers, new clutch shaft, repaired final drive gears, steering clutches rebuilt (new contact plates) new bearings throughout the machine. transmission was repaired still needs replaced. need to somehow repair or replace at least the pinion gear but ideally the ring gear to. I love my machine even though it been a huge challenge and a money pit. Fell in love with it when i first saw it probably 12yrs old. I had to have it from that point on. I would love to see some closeups of your machine : tracks, sprockets, final drives ring pinion, rear axle shafts. were yours starting to twist?

There are a couple of cool looking Wheelhorses we see on the forum. One has a white hood with red body and the other one that comes to mind is a black and silver combo that looks pretty sharp. Good luck, Bill

Where at in Southern Il. I was born in Cahokia in 1955 and then grew up mostly in Belleville, Il in the 70's. Moved away in my early thirties to Kansas City, Mo. and now have retired in the Kentucky area. I still have sisters in Sothern Il.

I'm really proud of my find and purchase today. I have been shoveling to long. Little winter rebuild and repair and should be good to go. This is a McCormick #100 made to be pulled by cub farmalls. Hopefully the 520 can handle it. It's got more HP than a cub when new. If not I always have something that will. Looks like a good setup though.

Welcome Glenn! Collecting and working the Wheel Horses is alot of fun. Some of your friends and neighbors will think you are nuts (in a good way). Then before you know it, some of them will see what good machines Wheel Horses are and buy one or two for their own use. This usually happens after their box store mower breaks down.

No kids here anymore. Must be that time thing you mentioned. Retirement is gonna be a blast!

If you have to live where it is cold, you may as well, look forward to doing something that you enjoy in the cold...

CasualObs - Thanks for posting that video. I haven't had time to look at much of the coverage nor have I been very far past my house. Makes me feel even luckier. We are in the row of houses at the top of the screen at about 2:10 in that video. Put the gas tank and battery back on the C-120 today, it had to crank a little while to get the fuel pump primed and pumping, but it fired up and drove just fine. The neighbor with the Craftsman just pushed his out to the curb. Had another very productive day today. Feel like we have things covered back up as best we can, and got alot of stuff moved out of the house to clear the way for cleaning and repair. We have all gotten a ton of support from our friends and coworkers. It really makes you appreciate how great a community Washington and the Peoria area is. Dave

I think that the interlock cost me like $150, add another $25 for the breaker and $50 or so for the wire and $25 for the outlet and your good to go. Hardest part was running the wire.

I always liked K&L Carriers. But.................like most any chain enterprises, there are good depots and bad ones. I've used K&L three times from the mid-west to Central PA without incident or delay. Lift gates on their trailers make taking deliveries at home a breeze. I never thought about Fastenel before and will look into it in the future. We have a store about 6 miles away considering how rural we are. Good information, Glen! Thank You!

Cool! I had an old Chevy P/U that was 8 different colors. I called it my Easter Egg truck!

Right now, I'm just trying to get everything that needs to be fixed taken care of before I tear it down for paint work. I started by pulling the original gas tank out because it had a crack in it. I thought I could repair it, but it was so brittle, I accidentally put my thumb right through it. Oh well. I ordered a replacement from Joe's Outdoor Power for $30. It temporarily has a gas tank in it, which fits quit well, surprisingly. The PTO clutch wasn't working correctly, so I removed it to see why. It had a completely destroyed bearing in the front cam plate, although nothing else was damaged. So two $6 bearings later, it was working like a champ. The motor mounts on the shaker plate are shot, so the engine is just sitting on the frame, which makes for a lot of rattling with this old thumper (which can be heard in the video). I found a place where I can get them for $10 a piece. This really is a very solid machine. I think I should be able to start tearing it apart in the next couple days. I have been waiting almost 2 years to finally install this dealer sign the I got from a friend and member here (Riley08). This started as a double sided, 4x6 ft sign but it would have been much to big and by cutting it down I can use the opposite side elsewhere. I mounted it on the old barn beam and used the brackets that it was hung with to support the barn beam. This weekend we are going to get everything wired up and hopefully figure out a way to get this sign to light up....

Remember, whatever AC voltage you see across the stator gets rectified or "cut in half" by the RR unit. There is also a measurable loss across the electronics in the RR unit. 46 VAC would get halved to 23 VDC available to charge the 12 volt battery to 14.5 volts. This is perfectly acceptable and you should feel comfortable hooking up the new RR unit. 28 VAC is the minimum allowed due to this halving effect. With 28 volts from the stator halved by the RR, only 14 VDC would be left to charge the battery - that's bare minimum. My experience is the higher HP C series era stators seem to produce these higher outputs. Most defective RR's I have seen are usually the result of jumping starting a dead battery. Sparks go flying and electrical spikes ride thru the RR units and destroy them. RR units do contain transistorized electronics

I guess my GT-14+2 is my custom worker now my 312-8 has been put on light grass cutting duties. I guess the custom parts are the 16hp Kohler magnum engine and the roll bar. As well as being used for carting stuff about on a trailer, it get's used as a filming vehicle and this winter it will be on snow plowing duties (Edited to add a couple more photo's)

Well it is Wednesday night so we all know what that means.........another fun night of tractor club! We added a couple of heaters out in the barn and it made it nice for all of us to get some work done. I also added a stereo so we had some tunes to listen to. The music made things a lot more fun as we had a few kids thinking it was a dance off competition! These kids crack me up! Sanding commenced and they all seemed a lot more energized tonight. We were able to make some progress and a few things are very close to being ready for primer. I was able to snap a few more pictures of the kids hard at work! Hope you enjoy!
