Fastenal stores can ship a Garden Tractor for you, from one store to another Fastenal store. If you ever need to ship one, well worth checking into, they make the process quite easy, very helpful, taking care of all the logistics & paperwork for you, and I think the rates are very fair (you must secure the tractor to the pallet): http://www.fastenal.com/web/en/22/third-party-logistics-(3pl

Lots of good info, As stated the Starter Pulley Thingy in itself is the flywheel nut and it screws off. after removing I then removed the hood. I put the pulley back on and turned the engine over by hand and heard a ticking sound about every revolution. I thought I should spray some AMSOIL fogging oil in the cylinder to lube the rings and cylinder wall so tried to take the spark plug out to no avail. So I took the head off, and it had a lot of carbon so I brushed and cleaned the head and top of piston and valves. I could only turn the spark plug an 1/8th turn and it was very tight. So I heated up the head around the spark plug hole and then turned the head so inside of head was face up and sprayed the sea foam in there in hopes it would draw the oil in around the threads and loosen things up and I left it overnight. Well it worked cause this morning I put the head in the vise and turned the Plug out it was hard but it did come out. The threads are a little galled so I ran a wire tubing brush through the threads and lubed real good. I also wire wheeled the spark plug and then chased the threads with plug and if tightens right up. On that ticking sound I called my pal SHORTS and asked him about that he said it was probably the External Ignition Impulse Thingy. Well sure enough the engine does have the external Wico Ignition and yep that were it. (Thanks Paul) I looked this up on the internet and found this.. http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98291 I have since started putting back on the head and will try and start the ole girl and see if she perks. Ill give my report later. ~Duke

Took this one today. Loaded up my Dad's 552 and my 550 in the truck and brought them over to my Gramps to play with his Raider 10. Great day in the yard. Tons of smiles. My Gramps is 88, I haven't seen him climb into the seat in ages.. very cool watching him cruise around the yard with a big smile on his face. Great day!

Traded some parts for this basket case. Trans is locked up and hubs are stuck, but I think it'll turn out OK. The PO visits the forum sometimes, so he knows about us. And the kicker, a Clinton panther two stroke. Don't know what I'll do with it.

Pinned to the top of the forum in which you posted this question, is this thread: You will find many suggestions for the color "Wheel Horse Red". However, since there are no color police out there to site you for using the wrong color, use whatever pleases you.

I have pulled small stumps and logs with the B-100. Sometimes it's a fun ride with the front axle coming off the ground, but 3rd gear seems to work best for me. Maybe I'm lucky, and I haven't broken anything yet (me or the tractor). I always have chains on the turfs, and an escape plan if things don't go well. Years ago we were taking down trees and I had a rope tied about 40 feet up, with the other end hooked to the hitch. I thought I had enough rope to put me in the "safety zone", but I pulled the rope tight and kept pulling while the tree was coming down. The tree didn't go exactly where we had predicted, and I still have the dent in the fender pan to remind me that that was not a good thing to do. I believe there were a few "skid marks" elsewhere as well as I jumped from the seat while moving to exit stage left.

My horizons are expanded all the way. I have 0 knowledge of college football or who's in what conference. All I know is Miami produces a lot of thugs, Oregon has weird uni's, and Mich state has a cool mascot. What do I win if I finish at the bottom of both. You won't win anything, but you are officially no longer in the basement by win count. You passed someone else's win count and stepped right out of the basement. So no coffee, doughnuts, or card games for you! (you can keep the flashlights)

My name is Dave. I, too, am a horseholic... I admit it and I like it. For the past 2-1/2 years, I also have spent a lot of time every day on CL and Ebeigh waiting for another WH tractor or part that I just can't pass on the opportunity to own. I don't smoke. I don't drink. I don't do drugs. My house and truck are paid for and I am now at a point in my life where I have a few extra bucks to spend on my new hobby... restoring classic, vintage WH garden tractors. If my wife is looking for me, chances are pretty good she will find me in the garage tinkering with one of my horses. Those of us who enjoy this fantastic hobby are so thankful for this RedSquare forum. It truly is one of the greatest sources of information available anywhere about anything you need to know about Wheel Horse lagt's. Just check out how many visitors/members visit this forum each and every day. The hobby is alive and well. Kevin, we're all in this together. We're pulling for you.

Got the Safety switches on today along with the clutch spring, NOS on ebay for 5 bucks, and the seat. I picked a seat up on ebay for 20. Not a WH seat but looks alot like one. Had to pull the cover and reconfigure the mounting holes but I think it looks OK. Got started on the Hood today but that is going to take awhile. What a beautiful Fall day here in Pa. for working in the Garage.

Separate thread for bowl games...it is. I like that, just thought I would ask. It will not be all the bowl games, same as last year...start with the first Big Ten team in a bowl and all the rest from there. I will start the thread when the pairings come out. I already know that Iowa will be in the Toilet Bowl...and somebody will wipe their butt...GO ILLINOIS

You would get so wheelhorse high @ the big show it would take you days to come back down....

I definitely like the separate thread for the bowl picks. Like RMC said, we might get more players in a new thread. Not everyone is a Big 10 fan. There's the SEC and many other conferences in play in the bowl games. It makes it interesting to expand your horizons and pick from teams you know even less about than the B1G teams.

As well as tractors I am a casual collector of flashlights. By casual I mean that I am not always on the hunt for more and usually stumble on them somewhat by accident. This past weekend I hit a local flea-market, had my eyes peeled for any kind of Wheel Horse memorabilia but as usual there was nothing. Then I spotted this 70's era Ray-O-Vac Sportsman on a sellers table and it was love at first sight . Its a nearly perfect light with the cardboard sleeve still intact inside of the barrel. It holds 7 "D" cell batteries and when full is somewhat heavy, wouldn't want to take it on a long hike. It can be broken down so that you only use 5 batteries or 3 batteries. HOW BRIGHT IS IT YOU ASK?? I wish I knew, I loaded it tonight and the bulb flashed for a nano-second and blew. I wonder if the bulb has to be rated for the number of cells? Maybe it was a 3 or 5 cell bulb? Oh well, I'll hit Radio Shack one of these days. The priced tag was $20, the seller saw me eying it and immediately shouted out "$15 and its yours"! I looked inside, saw no battery corrosion and offered $10 and he took it...sweet!! In mint shape and with the leather shoulder strap they bring around $50 on e-bay (I dont have the leather strap of course so mines probably worth $5 ) Not an exiting thing to collect but way cheaper and easier to store than Wheel Horses!! I am going to use the 633 this winter for snowplowing instead of my B-80 set up I have used for five years. I want to see how this 633 and 1962 -BD-4262 Snowplow will do. I placed the 1962 -Wheel Horse BD-4262 Snowplow/Dozer Blade and two newer Wheel Horse rear wheel weights on the 1963 -633 recoil start Wheel Horse. This will be the second half of my snow fighting team this year. The 1967 Lawn Ranger is... ready with the STR-324 Snowthrower. I am looking forward to using this BD-4262 Snowplow as it has a foot pedal on the right side to open the pivot pin for the front of the plow and a handle with a knob to move the plow left/right or center. This plow (and the 1961) was the early version of the plow that would pivot with a handle on the right side.

Let me tell a little story... so I had made plans today to drive from harrisburg Pa, to new jersey to pick up an rj35. Then stop on the way home and pick up a suburban parts tractor. Simple enough right? Not the story... I was planning to leave around 9am and get there around 1130am. I didnt leave till 11am and didnt get there till almost 2pm. While picking up the rj the guy showed me a big box of wheelhorse parts and said he wanted to get them out of his garage ($40 was what he wanted for the parts). So I paid him the $40. It was for all the parts on the table in the pictures below (suburban parts including, 4front rims, a frame and hood). So I leave and am heading back towards harrisburg and end up running out of gas on the Pa turnpike with a dead cell phone. I ended up leaving my dog in the truck along the turnpike and walked through a creek and to this house in the middle of the woods. The guy was more than happy to give me a gallon of gas and a gas can (free of charge!!!). That was more than enough to get me 2 miles down the road to a rest station to fuel up. The rest of the trip home was simple. But in the end it was worth it.. I got an rj35, a suburban 400 (for parts), and a bunch of spare parts. Can anyone tell me what the sets of rims go to? They are 8inch but are different widths (see picture). Could one set be the correct ones for the rj35? Thanks ralph

Seeing as most those parts look they will need to be replaced anyway, I think I would go with the temporary fix, so I could get some winter seat time in. Just my opinion. I have selfish reasons as well. I would like to see some winter videos of my favorite Beast in action! Matt

This hobby can also help you get work done. That's the angle I use with my "sober" wife. As long as I use one of the horsies occasionally, I'm justified in my addiction.

In that bottom pic I'm up against some cedar trees and room is very limited, I suppose I could have taken them in my back yard with my stained fence but didn't think of that, Marvin's now back into his winter clothes. Next year I'll get some back yard shots.

Thanks MalMac. I saw one when we were up there the first week of Oct. on US 6 just east of 31 but it looked like it was being used as a lawn decoration. Naturally I'd like it to be as complete as possible but I'll be in no rush to restore it and the parts search is fun. Thanks. Bob

I will keep a lookout for you. There is a guy down the road from me that has two RJ skeletons setting out in his yard but have know Idea what he is doing with them. Been there for awhile. There not anything you would want to drag down south with you. Maybe he has something else that's not seen.

Well, here are my . Bowl games are completely separate from the conference games. That is why all sports designate the end of the regular season, who makes the next round, and who makes the semi-final, finals, and championships. Sorry for being so anal, but there is a difference, after the conference games are over. Either you are in, or you are out. Which means, in my book, start a new thread.... I know that is a pain, but, we may get others to join in. Who knows, the more the merrier...

This is just my own experience. I have made my own but for what money I wrapped up in it and my frustration time. I was better off just buying OEM. I have done it both ways but just buying what's made for it was whole lot less headache.

this past weekend was our first "work weekend" for ourt new cub. holy moly did she work well. i'm at a loss for words. it was pure joy working her this weekend. what a ride, like a cadillac. both the farmall and the wheel horse got work and both were flawless. the farmall can't mow like a wheel horse thats for sure, but oh boy was the farmall smooth. my wife (who is legally blind and can't drive a car) was all over it. it was the fisrt thing she ever drove when she was a kid. and our 4 year old son, gavin, sure enjoyed riding around with mom.

I'm a recovering drug addict unless your losing your house or your family I don't think you have a problem because I almost lost both to drugs and my family would rather me be working on wheel horses rather than be out getting high so I say wheel horses saved my life

Just something to start a discussion. My Ultimate Tractor, and I am seeking 1, is a Steiger Panther IV, 360hp. While the practicality, of it's use, is limited to heavy agriculture use. It also can be used for residential. Just fit it with a 10' plow and you have a great looking, eye popping, jaw dropping winter Green Machine. The Steiger paved the way for the articulated tractor. While there were others before this model. The Steiger demonstrated cost savings, high HP, and versatility for the user. I choose the IV model, only because, I spent a better part of 2 years in the cab of 1. At first, I hated it. The A-B-C-D range was difficult to select when stopped. You had to shake, rattle and roll the levers into place. The 5 spd. trans. was difficult to select higher gears when on the road. < Man it was a pain to get into road range. D-5, was almost impossible to reach while shifting on-the-fly. Starting out in this gear was impossible. But as I grew to understand the unique characteristics of the tractor. I really began to enjoy spending time in the cab. Pulling a 12 bottom plow, or a 15 shank chisel plow was nothing for this brute monster. The "decelerator" pedal was truly an outstanding feature. The ability to swivel the seat, to the right, so you could see the implement better you were pulling was a thing of beauty then. No other articulated tractor, at that time, had the HP, versatility, or economical price tag/for the amount of HP you got. Basically, you could not buy a better tractor that was easy to keep up, high HP and did not break your bank when you took out the loan. Sooooo. The Steiger is my ultimate tractor...... What is yours???

We also had an Oliver 2255 4x4 that thing was a pulling beast. That was before we went with the Cases My uncle stuck his 1486 IH while chopping. My mother pulled him, the chopper and a 12 ton tandem wagon loaded out And he wasn't even in gear. Ours was the earlier version with the Cat 3208 but the kitty got stoked out to 370 pto hp Sadly the overdrive didn't survive the hired hands quick shifts
