I can not think of any better way to show are gratitude for are Freedoms in this country than to just say to a Veteran those simple two words than Thank You. So to all the Men and Women who have paid a debt from the days of General George Washington and the Continental Army to the Troops serving today. THANK YOU

Comedian Ray stevens has been known for a lot of things over the years ("The Streak"etc.) but sincerity has not been one of them until now. I found an online vidio titled "Thank You" which is a salute to all Veterans. Watch, enjoy and pass it on.

I had the honor of attending an amazing Veterans Day program at our elementary school this morning with my little kindergartener. I have never been more proud to have served in the armed forces of our country. The program was fantastic, it's very clear that patriotism is a very high priority for our school and our town. It was very well attended and supported. It brought tears to my eyes to have 700 little Kindergarten-4th graders stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing "God Bless the USA" and "Thank You Soldiers" to the large group of veterans that were there. After the program, then all the kids who had veterans there took them on a hand in hand parade through the halls, which were lined both sides all the way through the school with students and teachers all holding/waving little flags, and who were saying "Thank you for your service." I have never been more proud, and my little girl just beamed. She was so proud to be walking through with me. To all my fellow veterans. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. This continues to be the Land of the Free because of you. Semper Fidelis. Edit: received a copy of the teacher's picture today.

Up for consideration is my 1977 C160 auto. When I came to me it did not run and had a broken piston. Sat outside at previous owners house because of the engine problem. Now it is my main worker. Runs like a champ. I use it for snow removal, generator, home made mid blade, loader, tilling, plowing, and just plain lugging power. If it needs a hole drilled I thoughtfully do it. If it takes duals it gets them. JD front axle is for the 1" spindles for the loader. My custom weight bracket is in the first pic. Whatever it takes to save all the other horses some pain. Here is a couple pics.

Once again it is that time of the year when living on a 100% wooded lot is no longer fun. All summer long we enjoy the shade provided by the 80 to 100 foot tall oak trees, but when the leaves begin to drop in October, the job of cleaning them up continues until late in November. So each year I wonder, how do other members get rid of their leaves. Here is what I use. This is my Simplicity Broadmoor with a Cyclone Rake attached. This is a shot of the dump pile where all of 2013's leaves go. This pile composts nicely over the winter, and in the spring I will have several cubic yards of beautiful soil for patching and planting. The other problem with living in the woods on a lot filled with "old growth" red oak trees, is that they are all dying from Gypsy Moth blight. So each year, we are forced to take down dead trees. Here is the wood pile from seven of them that I had to have taken down last week. The only plus to this expensive problem is that three of the biggest trees were sitting next to the Wheel Horse stable. This will allow me to extend the building in the spring to accommodate the ever-growing herd of horses. I lined up all the ones that currently don't have shelter to see what size building I need to build. So that's my story for this fall. By the way, you might be wondering about the Simplicity. I don't have any Wheel Horses with a side discharge deck and a two-point hitch on the back for the Cyclone Rake. So it is pulled by my Simplicity.

If you have not stopped to consider where we would be today, were it not for our Armed Forces, of yesterday and today please remember to do so.... I want to thank each of you who took the time to dedicate a portion of your life for this great country. In case some of us have forgotten what we have been through, just listen to the words of Johnny Cash....The Old Ragged Flag:

If I may share a little story that happened to me. I travel a lot with my job, sitting at the gate in Atlanta airport waiting on a flight to Dallas, TX. I had only been away from home for 3 weeks and on the last leg. I noticed a young Marine kept going to the counter checking to see if he was on the flight. This young Marine was on 2 weeks R-R from Iraq, and the date was Nov 8. He was trying to get home in time for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, of which he was the 4th generation Marine in his family. Talking with him, found out he had been waiting at the airport since the night before. I talked with the gate agent, gave up my seat so he could get home. When they called his name, he was extremely excited. He sat down beside me, and asked me about his seat number. I told him he was up in the front and how lucky he was. I provided my cell phone so he could call his folks and let hem know he had a flight home. The best part of all of this was the phone call I received later that night from a very happy Mom and a most gracious Dad. The things we do for our Service Members might seem trivial to us, but the voice of a thankful Mom and Dad is worth much more. Thanks to all Soldiers, Sailors, Marine, Airmen and Guardsmen that have served or still serving. Semper Fi.

Back at you Sir! We may have worn different uniforms and picked on each other from time to time, but all that have worn a uniform and carried it's weight will always be brothers in a way that civilians will never understand. God Bless this great Country.

Things seemed to have slowed down some the past week, but there for a while it seemed tractors were popping up right and left around here with people cleaning out their garages and sheds for winter. Despite some attempt at will power, I ended up doing my part to help others with their cleaning projects. The first of my two most recent scores is a Bronco 14. The seller listed this tractor on CL a year ago for $500. Too high to interest me, but he relisted it several times, and finally worked his way down to $200. At that price, my resistance weakened and I couldn't help but take a look. It hadn't run since before he listed it the first time, so I had to take his word that it would run and drive OK. The engine, with the starter/generator setup is obviously not original. The tag on it comes back as a Wheel Horse 10HP from '66 or '67, but there is also a sticker on it saying 12HP with a replacement spec number on it. The engine block is primer gray, so it is probably a replacement. The snow plow is a short frame that has been lengthened, and has the older style axle mount. Not pretty, but I'd been wanting a hydro tractor to play with, or at a minimum, some parts to use on a project I had in mind, so after a little haggling it found it's way onto my trailer. The second tractor I picked up was a '73 8HP 4spd. This one was a roadside-sale find that I had told myself twice I didn't need. My mistake was taking pictures the second time I went by it. After seeing the on here recently about an 8HP 4Spd, and looking again at the pictures, I reconsidered, but told myself only if it was a good deal. The seller was a nice older gentleman who told me it didn't have many hours on a fresh engine rebuild, but when the battery died he parked it in the barn and starting using a different mower. There it sat for the past 20 or so years, until he recently pulled it out to sell. He said he tried to start it and it would crank but not fire, He accepted my $100 offer, so it came home with me. It may be a little crazy, but my plan for these is to merge the two. I have been wanting a short wheel base hydro, so I'd like to use the hydro drive and lift from the Bonco, and the front frame and hood from the 8HP 4Spd. For the engine, I'm going to try to shoehorn the 12HP in there. I've done a bunch of measuring and so far the only real stumbling block I see is getting the air cleaner to fit. I'm sure there will be other issues, and having the two side by side I can see it will be more of a challenge than I first thought, but it should be a good winter project. First things first though, My immediate plan is to get each one checked out and hopefully running, so I can see what is good and what is not. Mechanically, the 8HP 4Spd is pretty similar to my 854, so that one is somewhat "old hat", but I'm sure the Bronco's hydro will prompt some questions. Thanks, Dave

Thanks for all the advice guys. Valve to tappet clearances were WAY out of spec, long overdue. The carbon on the heads wouldn't come off with simply a scotch brite pad and brake parts cleaner, so I got the dremel out and found a few mini waffer pads and very carefully sanded the carbon off, made them look brand new. Also checked the gasket surface on the head for level/smoothness and all was good there. Moved to the piston, nice layer of grease around the bores while at bottom center, put back to top and took a utility knife blade and carefully scrapped all the carbon from the pistons, the blade worked really well for this. Little polish with the scotch brite afterwards then moved to valves, no grooves, burn marks so I cleaned them up and slapped it all back together and now it starts much easier than it did and purs like a kitten. Ran it wide open Saturday for 2.5 hrs straight chopping leafs, never skipped a beat, changed the oil before hand of course and added a little marvel mystery oil in the gas and oil. Seems to be a little easier on fuel too. The only thing i hate about the tractor is the constant clogging of the flywheel screen but there's nothing you can do about it. Hopefully She has another 1000 hrs in her. Now to the steering slop fix.

Backup data.... blah blah blah.... you've all heard this but is it really important. Most of you are aware that I have a degree in Computer Science and work for a very large technology company, but even I was lax at one time. Back in 2000, I had a brand new laptop computer. Like many of you, I put all my digital pictures from my children's first years on it. The computer developed a problem which required service and I sent it in for repair which turned out to be a bad mother board. Part of the repair was that they not only replaced the mother board, but the hard drive as well and I lost everything! The actual value of the data lost was small, but these were irreplaceable pictures which I will never have again all because I didn't do a backup, after all it was a new machine anyway. Since then, I have purchased external hard drives which cost like $100 and my computers are now backed up HOURLY which is a good thing. This past weekend I had to replace the keyboard on my MacBook Pro (because of a liquid spill). I have no idea what happened, but when the computer was booted back up, the hard disk was corrupted and required a complete format to fix. THIS time, it was not a problem, I formatted the drive, and restored the backup. I lost only 3 hours of my time doing this, and kept all my data which includes all the information about RedSquare! It's not just data loss like this, but there's a new NASTY malware on the loose. This program comes by e-mail and will encrypt all your files. You then receive a notice where to PAY to get the key to unlock them. If you do not pay, you do not get to access your files PERIOD! Having a backup will protect you! If you have data on your computer which would hurt to lose, spend the money NOW and back it up. Don't wait to lose your children's pictures to learn the lesson!

I'm kinda in the same shoes as you now - new to me tractor with a cab and blower, plus I added a plow, and I'm ready to play in the snow. They are calling for snow here tonight and tomorrow - maybe 8 inches total. I took of the deck and put on the plow after work today. Maybe I'll get to try it out tomorrow. I told my wife - don't shovel that snow - leave it for me!

When I came home in '68 Jane Fonda had everyone convinced that we were baby killers. It is so refreshing to see the welcom home crews at all of our big airports today. I spent a couple of hours doing this at the Atlanta Airport while waiting for my wife's plane; it was great.

If this is the same tractor then my main concern would be where he said it "smoked like a freight train" in the link below BUT that may have been oil and carbon burning off from sitting. The snow blade alone is worth at $100-$125 usually. http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=337682

had the dash apart so we could scan the decal areas. while apart i pulled the circuit board for the warning lights at the molex connector. the connector half in the board end had definitely seen better days, one corner was burnt out and two wire terminals had corroded so bad they broke away from the block. so we needed to replace the block and put new terminals on at least two wires. i decided to re-terminal all the wires so we shouldn't have any issues down the road. (i did this at work in my lunch break, so thats why you see a powder hopper in the first pic.....) while getting the engine in running condition i knew both molex connectors were going to need some work so i purchased this kit. i could have just got a couple 9 pin molex connectors and terminals, but decided to get this as it has way more different pin count male and female blocks and terminals and wasn't really much more than just 2 or 3 9 pins and a few terminals. I'm sure they will get used for something. you need to have a special crimper for these terminals, which i picked up when making a new harness for the c160 here > you will also need some side cutters, insulation strippers, plus the 9 terminal molex block to match the one you are replacing and 9 terminals (those came in the kit). a tool for removing the terminals from the block would be handy here as well, but i left mine at home and so i had to butcher the old burnt block as i cut the wires to keep them at the most length. the tool is definitely the easier way..... heres a pic of the tool from my c160 wiring thread...... need to get the block in the same position as the one you are replacing, notice some of the holes are 'keyed' with flats, not every one is round. i rotated the blocks so they are both the same and marked the same position on both blocks. i knew the green went in the corner terminal (which i now have marked) so that was the first wire position i started with. one by one each wire is cut, position it came from is noted and then a new terminal is crimped on and it gets inserted in the corresponding position in the new block. i left the wires as long as possible, cutting right at the old terminal, i already knew i had a little wire length to play with, but didn't want to push my luck so i shortened them only the slightest amount.... heres how the terminals look, this is the 'male' side we are working on....... almost done..... one terminal gets two wires, so we need to make sure both wires get pushed in far enough to get a good connection, tight fit, but once its crimped almost the same size as one wire. all wires crimped with terminals and in the block in their right positions ( I hope so.....) heres what the boards look like, row of LEDs down one side are your warning lights........

Yes you are correct Mike! I am getting lazy and am tired of manually lifting. I have another blower tractor in the barn right now. Has a cab and a short chute blower and is all mounted on a 312-8. Selling that cab and blower to a friend. Will put a blade out front and take it over to grandmas house. Shhhhhh.....don't tell her it is not just for plowing her drive, but to also free up some storage space. Have a C-85 with blade already over at my place ready to go. Might get the 702 with HY pump ready to plow as well. Just finishing up the 522XI for dad. Swapping out the 48" blade and will be putting on a 54" blade. So needless to say......we will be ready for anything!

If you are a newbie to spraying, any gun is going to suffice. I have used the HVLP sprayers from Harbor freight with good success. For $15.00 you can get one, play with it, use it and throw it away when done. It's cheaper than a gallon of lacquer thinner needed to clean it.

This is the plow I brushed. A little wax, and the snow rolls like a wave. Here's the 551 I brushed the frame on, and sprayed the tins. The spray came out a bit glossier, but I went straight from the can with the brushing and would try lightly thinning next time, or flo-through.
