    One year ago today I made my first visit to RedSquare and joined up. I was only seeking a little information and ended up finding a group of great new friends who share my love for . to everyone I have had the pleasure of sharing a post with ( over 500 of them). Hard to find great people like you on any other site. Many of you have helped me and I hope I was able to be of to others along the way.

    There really aught to be some kind of warning label when you enter this site. Maybe even just a little pop up box that you have to acknowledge a warning about how contagious it can be. A few days ago, I knew nothing about tractors. I needed to buy a rider that I can mow and snow plow with for my new house. So I looked on CL and saw what seemed to be a really good deal on a Huskee with a plow. So I googled it to see what kind of problems they have. This led me to forums discussing the best tractors for mowing and plowing, which in turn led me here. All I wanted was an inexpensive, dependable rider that could do what I need it to do. No offense to anyone, but to be honest, when I found this site and saw how many people had multiple tractors and how much time and money they put into them, I thought “These people are crazy. Why would anyone put so much into a lawn mower and why would you want more than one??†Well, I have spent everyday since on this site and searching CL for a Wheel Horse. I am infected! And judging by you fine folks, clearly there is no anecdote. I was surprised by how many Wheel Horses I found on CL, but there are two in particular that I am interested in, so I thought I would take it to the experts and get their advice. Both are allegedly running, operating machines and both come with a plow. The first appears to be a Raider 10 with a six speed. They are asking $350. It’s within an hour of me. I called the guy, he said someone else already claimed it, but it’s been over a week and he hasn’t showed up. He is going to call the guy to see if he is still coming for it, otherwise, it’s mine if I want it. The other is a B100 with an 8 speed. They are asking $500. It’s more than two hours away. I called and this one is available even though it has been on CL for over a month. The B100’s seem to be very popular, but I wanted to get your opinions before I pay more and drive much further to get it. Does the price seem to be fair? Thanks for your input!! -Sam

    Well I finally got the hard to find Model 1045 ! This is one of my favorite WH's but I never got a deal on one until now. Thanks to Speedy Leedy for the tip! It was in rough condition until I got it home and started stripping off the junk and replacing parts and tires. All 4 tires were the wrong ones. I have hoarded up 1045 front tires for years and put a set on the machine for a nice factory look. I replaced the skinny 6X12 rear tires with the correct 8X12's. Replaced the wrong seat with the correct style. I also added a 10 hp generator belt guard. I cleaned up some of the paint but didn't get too far on that before it got dark. So I will work on it some more tomorrow. I also got the original rectangle mower deck for $20.00! Bought another 1962 WH snow plow for $35.00. I just got a 1962 snow plow a couple weeks ago with that 552 I snagged.

    Well it was a good time at the auction today. It was cold and windy but most of the prices for stuff was cheap or reasonable. I got what I went there for, a 1965 Model 1045. It was in rough shape though. I knew I had most of the parts for it laying around. I got the 1045 for $85.00 and found the original mower deck for it laying in a large pile of mower decks. I got the deck for $20.00. I also got another rare 1962 WH snow plow for a cheap price of $35.00. I got a old RJ style BF Goodrich front tire for an early RJ35 for $5.00, a hard to find tread pattern. The 1959 Bolens went for $85.00, the GT14 went for $110.00. The 502/856 went for $150.00 or so. Not too bad. There was about 4 or 5 WH collectors there but only one other Redsquare member, Greg from Southwestern Ohio. He bought the grey Horse for about $110.00 and some others for cheap. I'll post pics of my 1045 pile on a separate topic.

    We've almost come to the end of our road. The horse took it's first test ride tonight. We found a used muffler to throw on for now and attached the throttle cable, hooked up the drive belt and installed the belt guard. In the beginning the clutch was hanging up a bit but after a few minutes it loosened up enough to work on it's own. Left to do is hook up power to the lights and add a battery then cut the choke cable to length and install.

    Just thought you might be interested in what a non-abused, well maintained 38 year old Uni-Drive transmission should look like inside. This transmission has been sitting outside of my shop for at lease two years. When I got the B-80, I drained the oil and plugged the hole where the shifter goes. So what you will see in the next picture is exactly how I found the transmission when I opened it up last night. I honestly can say that I cannot find a single bit of metal or any evidence of water ever having gotten into this one. The previous owner must have taken meticulous care of his horse, and never rode it hard or put it away wet. Dan - this is where your differential came from.

    Just curious... What does your winter rig look like? I found a small heater I am going to mount, up in the corner of the cab, and hook it to a rechargeable battery. I'll add the photo's when I'm finished.

    I just finished up my suburban restoration and I thought a winter project would be fun for me and my kids to mess with on these cold days it came down to the 857 I just got back or my lawn ranger I picked the lawn ranger its been my little worker this summer so I thought I better give it sum love. 857 going to wait in line here's wait I got so far

    Hi everyone! Mi name is Fito from Valencia, Spain. Last week I found this old wheel horse 702 in a town close to me and I couldn´t keep me away from buying it. After 20 year without use, I plugged a new battery, revised oil level, filled the gas tank and it started in two minutes! It is in very good conditions with all the original parts and no modifications, all users manuals very well conserved. Originally bought in 1966 here in Spain. I am in love with it, also with the girl driving it! Nice to find other proud owners in Europe!

    tried to buy this tractor three years ago but the owner would'nt sell she sat by a shed in the weeds in his back yard I was driving by there a couple of weeks ago and decieded to stop and ask again the owner is in his late seventies and he still did not want to sell her as he was going to fix her up I stood around and talked awhile with him about tractors and other things for about a half hour and before I left I gave him my business card from work and told him to please call me if he changed his mind that next saturday morining at work I recieved a phone call and it was him and if I still wanted the tractor to come and get it he needed some money to fix his truck after a little TLC she runs pretty good Brian

    I had a very nice C141 Auto and that was the problem, it was all ways in the way for me. Every time I had to move it I had to start it. Since I am retiring this winter I thought I could use the exercise. I pick up a top of the line Ariens professional 28"420cc. what a beast. it can throw snow 50'out buy 16' high I have 2 people at work that have this model and they say it is a hard worker Take Care Gary B,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Me too. This has been a very interesting thread for me as a Kohler (K341) powered 416-8 owner, which I think would be two generations newer than the C160. Someone correct me if I am wrong here. Would the progression of the 16hp singles be this: C160, C161, C165 Blackhood, 416-8 ??? Am I correct on this? Very curious as I am seriously developing an interest in these particular tractors. I have a C165 Blackhood which is not listed below yet because at the present time the engine is at the rebuild shop. It has a rubber mounted K341. The C160 has a solid mount engine, correct? The C161 is rubber mounted, correct? Thank you to anyone who will set me straight on this. My C-101 is rubber (cradle) mounted . I assume the 101 and 161 indicate cradle mounts.

    Once again, thanks for all the great responses, and that a great looking C-120 you have there ekennell. I got the stack built for it today, although its not done yet. The muffler is only tack welded to the 1" pipe, and the hose clamp won't be staying on there. I will get an exhaust clamp for it, and when its finished, it will get a coat of silver header paint. I also posted a video of it running. As you can probably here, it needs the valves adjusted, and as soon as I find the clearance specs for it, I will adjust them. I love the way this exhaust sounds! I'm really am enjoying working on this beast, and can't wait to start buffing the paint to see if I can make shine!     We've had regular heavy-ish snow in South of UK for last 4 years or so. Prior to that, hadn't seen any for several years. So we don't have an excuse to 'Tool Up' with Blades and Blowers to make it worth while........ We depend on you Guys to show us the Red Things shifting the White Stuff.

    Question: Would the OHV techys need to be ran at high throttle like the old kohler K361's to avoid valve train damage? From what I heard the kohlers did not get enought oil up top unless ran full throttle.

    OHV is what gives these Tec's the cool factor. They could be considered years ahead of their time for small engines, but the benefits are the same here as any other application. The OH160 has the same basic bottom end as the 12 hp HH120 with cast block, tapered Timken main bearings, and balance weights. The bore and stroke are the same, so parts like the piston, rod, and rings interchange. The blocks were adapted without valves and a different head and larger carb put in place. Instant 33% more power. The OHV design definitely breathes better and offers great fuel efficiency as well. Enjoy that Horse of another stripe!

    I've travelled from Orillia On to Ct for a 314 once and to me it was worth it because there was nothing like what I wanted around here. Now Texas...that's a bit out of my range even for this one but happy it has a good home and will be respected for what it is.

    Man Matt that C-160 looks great. You got a good deal there. I think it was well worth the trip for you. About a year ago I made the trip from my house to Kelly's to pick up the last C-160 in my collection the 77 and a tall chute blower. Was about a five hour trip one way, but well worth it to me.

    We got 9" of snow out of Nemo. I used the Horse and blower on my driveway but used the King on my neighbor's as they have large gravel stone. I purposely put all his snow in one big pile then tried to push it.The tires didn't even begin to spin. This tractor is almost unstoppable now. :thumbs:
