5 pointsI had a hub that was stuck pretty good so I did a search on "hub pullers" to see what some of you have built and I made this one. I turned down a 1/2" plate and welded a 3/4" grade 8 nut to it and used a 6" grade 8 bolt.... Works Good.

4 pointsThere has been a descent looking 1962 Model 552 on my local Craigslist now for a couple of weeks. I called the fella and it turns out he has had it in his family since it was new! It even came with the hard to find original 1962 Snow Plow! You don't see these very often. He scrapped the mower deck years ago. He had a price of $300 on it or trade. I asked what he wanted to for a trade and he said tools or guns. I have plenty of extra tools laying about so I offered him some carpentry tools, a new Craftsman lazer guided circular saw, a jig saw and a few hand tools that were new too. He said he would go for that deal since he buys and sells stuff all the time! I brought him the tools yesterday and he said that was ok with him. He brought out a bucket with the WH tire chains in it and asked if I wanted this stuff too? Uhhhh, yes I do! So we loaded up my new Horse and I took off down the road! It is in good shape but has a few issues. The gas tank has been cut up and another tank mounted inside of it. The hood was cracked quite abit. The front tires were junk but the rims were good. I put this spare set of 1045 tires on it just to roll it into the mighty van. I found the original 2 prong key laying in the tool box along with a nice steering wheel center cap and the parking brake handle! I'll clean this up over the next few days and keep it in original condition as always....

2 pointsInstead of worrying about the govt furlough all day... I decided to focus on turning this down draft oil bath into a functioning up draft unit. Had a few people tell me it couldn't be done, but that's when I usually do my best work. Picts here pretty much tell the whole story, any questions about the process...feel free to ask. Basically, all you're doing is moving the fresh air inlet from the bottom to the top of the unit. Once completed, and filled with oil...I tested it out by letting it run un-tethered for about a half hour in the back yard while I cleaned up. Then took it out for a couple hot laps around the house, up hills, and down, high rpm's and at idle... performed flawlessly, with no runs, drips, or errors. Actually, while running...engine sounds much quieter to my ear now. Would you believe, the wife even commented on how good it sounded.

1 pointSwapped out the tired and broken tecumseh for the harbor freight 6.5hp predator. I know it seems kinda wrong to put a Chinese motor on an American tractor but it's a great option to get the tractor back to work. The swap was pretty easy, here are some pictures. Feel free to ask any specific questions if you are thinking about doing this.

1 pointEarl L. McEvers built this custom road grade in 1980. It has an International 1 1/2 to 2 HP hit and miss engine, hydraulics and a hydraulic pump run by belt, Wheel Horse rims and tires. David Ralph and I visited him this morning in Whitehall, Illinois to see this machine. The video shows this think in action and says it all about the inventiveness of Earl McEvers! 1 pointThanks, Craig. I have one for my rj but it's on the shelf. I'm going to have to look to see if it's correct or if I need to do what you did. If I do this thread will definitely make it easier.... By the way, your rj looks Really Good!

1 pointSweet Craig !! I do have a question for the members that may be able to assist here. On my son's rj58 with kohler and correct updraft it is not getting air and sometimes will just not start unless I remove the oil bath air cleaner then she fires up. Can anyone tell me why this happens? I know it is not getting air but what could be the blockage?

1 pointScrew the trailer... I would have locked the car, and walked that horse down the road. Free means it going home with me now.
-
1 pointYou mean you left without it You better get back there real fast or some sneak will cart it off. I have seen it happen before and so have many on here.
-
1 pointHere is a good match for your factory wheel color... very durable too, considering it comes from a can.

1 pointMy commando 8 is awesome and just traded for a 857 I even have a 308-8 with a magnum 8hp

1 pointUpdate... It's a 1993 model. SousaKerry, let me clarify. He had it listed for $400. He didn't sell it at that price, so then he called me and offered it to me for $200. That prompted me to go take a look. When I said above, "everything works," I meant that the motor runs flawlessly and all the gears work. That statement was the optimism in me showing through. I got there and it is in really poor condition cosmetically, and the last guy to look at it snapped a tie rod connector when he was test driving it. The choke cable is frozen, and the seal between the gas tank and the shutoff valve is leaking. These are all minor repairs, but It needs a lot of TLC. At the beginning of summer, his wife commanded that he clean up the property. Long story short... I was pointing out all the flaws, and all the stuff I would have to do to get it into serviceable condition. He finally caved and didn't want to negotiate. He just said, "Take it all, you seem to know what you're doing." He just needs it gone. That's how it went from $400, to $200, to FREE. I better pick it up before he changes his mind...

1 pointDepends on your paint budget and skills but Rustoleum Regal Red works very well for me. I prime with Rustoleum Rust Converter.

1 pointThat's great. If he had the original motor then you would have all the right guards. The rest of the stuff will be easy to get.

1 pointWish I lived in Texas. Think I could solve your problem. Yep, I got the answer.

1 pointI agree with Steve regarding Iowa. Always have been a clean, respectable program. I do not not like them, but it seems that going back to even the Hayden Frye hawkeyes they do this every year. I just have a hard time figuring who they will beat and who they will lose to.

1 pointDuring the Jacksonville show, discussion came up about some of my walk-behind tractors and I mentioned the fact I was currently building the mother one all 2 wheelers. So long story short here is a picture of what it looks like at this time. Not a completely working unit, it has been test driven and found to function pretty well. Powered by a 9 hp Vangaurd engine, it will someday pull a 16" plow in plowing matches.

1 pointWe are real close to the big day and are ready to see everyone! We are looking forward to a nice time of fellowship with some great folks! Couple of things to remember............... 1. There will be plowing out in the field again this year. We may have to move across the street so before you start turning soil, check with me first. Hope many of you bring a machine to play in the dirt with! 2. The closer we get to the show, the busier I become. Please make sure any questions you have are addressed as early as possible. I will not be focused on a computer much at all on Friday. 3. The swap meet area has become a huge hit. Make sure you pack some goodies for sale and have your "want" list in your pocket. I am sure there will be something there that you can't live without! 4. Please pick up and pay for your shirts when you first get there. We would like to get those distributed as early as possible. 5. If you can lend a hand with raffle items, it would be greatly appreciated! I have some brand new turf tires and other little items that will be available. Remember all of the proceeds will be sent to St. Baldricks. 6. If you are planning on coming Friday night to camp, get a hold of me this week please. It sounds like we will have a good little crowd that night. If the weather cooperates, a bonfire will happen!!! 7. Load up those tractors...........we really want to pack out the place this year! 8. Most importantly...........have a safe trip and thank you so much for your willingness to join us this year. We always appreciate the time you take to support our show! See you this weekend!!!!!!!!

It was nice to meet you all and i hope you guys enjoyed yourself at the show. I hope to see you all in the future. Thanks again Richard Hembrough

1 pointI ran into a guy at the Jacksonville show whose son happens to be a customer of the company I work for. The son called me this morning and said he had a cart in his shed that I may be interested in. I stopped by his place after work and picked this up, even got to name my own price. It wasn't free but it was pretty darn cheap. The back lip is bent up a little and it has the usual dings in the bottom and it's been painted with a rattle can. I'll straighten it up the best I can, repaint it and use it to replace the Rubbermaid cart that I use in the yard.

1 pointI finished this up just in time for the Jacksonville show this weekend. Some of you probably saw it there, but I thought I would share some photos of the project. It was/is a Radio dumping trailer. I wanted a cart to pair up with a Wheel Horse, and I liked the size and style of this one. it started off in decent shape other than the rear lip was rusted through. I wish I had taken more pictures during that part of the project. I cut the bad section off and then tried to curl some of the good part over to match the rest. The results were so-so, but after welding a 5/16" rod in to help reinforce it, and some more grinding and filling, it turned out decent. Fixing the lip was probably the worst part. The parts all cleaned up pretty easily. I didn't get too carried away trying to smooth out the inside because I do plan on using the cart some. I sprayed the inside with some spray-on bedliner stuff. Then I painted the rest of it with the Rustoleum Regal Red and Canvas White. Unloaded and headed into the show... In line with the rest... Despite the appearance that it could rain any minute, it hadn't yet when we got home from the show so we went out and picked our "Big Max" pumpkin. The cart and 854 did a fine job bringing in the crop!

1 pointI guess technically it is a suburban hood, but a 701 is the more common name for them
