3 pointsI like all the WH hoods but, the black doesn't appeal to me at all. My oldest (presently), Grandsons and I prefer the '68 and '73 "No Name" styling. The '68 Raider 12 is a favorite! Boys love the muffler stack. Duh!

3 pointsI like the late 60's era Charger/Raider hoods with the vertical center piece....narrow at the base makes the front stance look wider.... Don't know why this pic looks stretched....

2 pointsHEY! I spy the big guy...right back at 'cha buddy. Here is the obverse of the first pict posted here. Was nice seein' you again today Karl. Had sooo much fun at CAMA Kent today, wonderful show, incredible weather too.

2 pointsNah, gotta be the early square hoods: As for the 3/4/500 Series hoods, they look better with the little dashboard sticking up at the rear (516, 518, 520).

2 pointsMy favorite is any older Wheel Horse but I seem to lean toward the 70's C series hood the best because it looks the most like a real tractor.

2 pointsWe have all been burned so many times it ain't even funny. Lots of sellers get burned as well. I can't count how many times I have held a tractor, a boat or whatever for someone that tells me over the phone to consider it sold and that they will be there on such and such a date. Many times that date comes around and I'm left there twiddlin my thumbs all day and the buyer never shows up. So, as a seller, unless I know and trust you, no mores holdsies.... Remember, there are more good guys out there than bad guys. Wheel Horse's are hot items these days, there are plenty of people out there willing to cough up the dough for a nice one, especially a desirable model. I once held an outboard motor for a guy that was willing to travel all the way from Indiana to CT. to get it, but I'd have to wait a few weeks. Him, his wife, the two dogs AND the cat showed up right on time. I offered to fire up the barbeque for some dogs and burgers for lunch and they took me up on it, great time, great people.

1 pointAs I dropped my wife off to her fathers house at 6:30a this morning for a trip to NY I found myself wondering HMMMM what to do all this free time... Well since My neighbor was kind enough to drop 12 yds. of fresh Florida dirt in my back yard I felt the need to move it...... Time to build a plow... You say BUILD ???? well Wheeled Horses are hard enough to come by down here in Florida let alone PLOWS.... So here we go... Let me first apologize for the lack of picks I didn't have my camera the whole time. So basically you get the start and finish... So here is the start. Since My tractor never had a plow on it ever I needed to build the rear axle brackets too. Here is the finished: And now with some dirt on it to boot: Its nice have a Vinyl graphics plotter too... comes in handy... Loaded the C-81 into truck at 7:15am drove to the shop started there at 8:30a... loaded new combo into the truck and drove home at 5:00pm was pushing dirt by 6:00pm... No one was at the shop today so I didn't get bothered by anyone...work, work, work... Not too bad.

1 pointI was wondering if it was possible for a member or moderator to set up a poll to find RS's favourite hood/bonnet design covering all the production years. Here's what I was thinking, members post in their examples on one thread, when the 'folks in the know' think all the models have been covered someone with the 'clicknology' could number them and set up a Poll on another post which we could then vote on. It would be interesting to see all the different designs (how many?) to show how evolved and to find out which one RS likes the most. If this is achievable can I suggest we stick to design and to hardware only (not get into decals). Also clear pictures taken from the same perspective would make comparisons easier. This could be fun and educational as well. I've posted this as a possible example for the 300/400/500 line, I think the only other variation would be the 520 with the louvered top ? There would defiantly be models that I wouldn't vote for, but picking one....... would be tough.

1 pointCouple quick vids of some cool rides I saw today at the fall KAMA Kent show... and neither of 'em where 's...can you believe that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejCcAZX1kaE&feature=c4-overview&list=UUd_ptV1TUpPlW1VhCjxez_Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WXwB7pc6YQ&feature=c4-overview&list=UUd_ptV1TUpPlW1VhCjxez_Q

1 pointI had a bunch of my WH's out and about last weekend. I brought out 14 tractors this time around and my buddy had 7 there too! Makes a nice pile for folks to look at and remember the WH's they had back in the old days! Lots of good stories get told at these shows. The rain dampened the fun on Saturday and it was quite muddy, but it cleared up around noon and Sunday was a great day all around. Thanks to qd-16 for coming down and checking out my collection. He wanted to scope out some of my RJ35's for comparison on his RJ35 he is working on, thanks for coming down!

1 pointAs some of you my screen name Riley088 is after my daughter Riley who was born in 2008. Last year she decided to take claim of my 1077 that was in really nice original condition. Everytrhing on it worked the way it was supposed to with no issues so I felt safe with her on it .She loved taking around the yard with of coarse myself or my wife right with her. Torwards the end of last season she said "daddy i want you to paint my tractor this winter" I was thinking this will be a nice winter project. Then she said "daddy I want it pink" so off to home depot to let her pick out what color pink she wanted. the tractor was taken all the way down and the work began. It was a great one to do. She absolutly loves it and thats what makes it worth it. Enjoy BEFORE

1 pointWell, if anyone is wondering, I had to put everything on hold due to some unexpected surgery (nothing serious), so now I am getting started again. I have decided to put the trans on hold for awhile, because I discovered more serious engine issues. I filled the trans (again) with diesel and am letting it "soak" until everything else is finished. The tractor is coming apart in a few days and will undergo a complete restoration. I will have to go into the engine so figured this to be a good time to do everything. This will be my first, and I hope to do the work myself , so I will probably be seeking advise here in the future. Steve your knowledge and your willingness to share it is greatly appreciated . If I can figure out how, I hope to post some pictures soon, thanks. OP

1 pointI only own one... a blackhood... what I like about it is that I can throw a piece of plywood on top and it makes a dandy temporary work table! SACRILEGE!

1 pointall the mid 70s b & c tractors. the best being the 73s, with the square 90* hoods you might think I'm crazy, but my all-time favorite wheel horse hood/stance is the much maligned 1973 lawn ranger

1 pointI had a mule drive that was so rusted i had to use a little heat on it to get it to move. Sounds like this thing hasn't been used in a while. Maybe the best thing would be to remove the deck and the mule and go through it all. The mule may be bent from over tightening. Seen that a lot. May have to cut the PTO belt to get things off.
-
1 pointCs of the 70s Long Hoods have a look that seems to work so well in proportion And so not to appear biased, I also think that all series suit their own era designs and as I don't have one of each era, I say the CCCCCCs have it.

1 pointAny wheel horse hood is appealing to me especially the maroon stripe 500 series hoods. I would have to say from my point of view Wheel Horse had better looking hoods than the Cub Cadets. Cub Cadets are great machines but their hoods look a little weird to me. This hood looks like a big nose to me. The 520H hood with engine exposed has a lot more sex appeal to me.

1 pointWith all the bad press surrounding the Onans I've stayed away. I had a 520h with 100 hours and swapped it straight up fora 314h with 175 hours. Both machines were in comparable shape. But unless you need the extra grunt of a twin the single Kohlers get it done. The cost associated with carb kits and air filters are another reason. Lets not even get into the cost of a rebuild. I've also had personal experience with Onans going 3000 hours on gensets. They are proven performers. For whatever reason they just aren't worth the aggravation on a horse!

1 pointDepends on the man. I've made deals, had better offers come by and passed. A few deals were long distance pickups that had to be planned very similar to yours. One actually fell through but I didn't loose any sleep on it cause my word is a handshake or contract. In the end your reputation is all that really matters. Sorry it happened to you cause I know how it feels to be on your end. Something better will come up, they always do.

1 pointSo, the PTO clutch plate was completely worn out. Uppon further inspection, I do not think that the trunion was adjusted right, I don't think it was able to disengage the clutch completely. I have a new part ordered. Found one on Amazon for $59.99+ $6.50 shipping. I can figure out how to replace it, I have had the PTO clutch off and the pressure plate is only held on by 4 bolts, but I have now idea of how to adjust it once it is on. Apparently there is a 0.016 gap between the brake shoe and the clutch when engaged, but do I adjust the trunion until the clutch meets the preasur plate and go one more turn? Do I just do trial and error, try it, if it slips, take it one turn, try it if it slips take it one turn? Thanks for your help in advance. You guys are a wealth of knowledge and many of you seem to have infinte patience with those of us that are new to the Wheel Horse Addiction.

1 pointi love my 310 -8 , i have plowed with it disced with it and mowed lots of grass .

1 pointThese are all great OPINIONS, but I think he was looking for something more substantial than "I like the way they sound" or "it's soooo much fun to drive." Then the "welcome to the club" pitch you sometimes get - Right - Thanks. I think. On the plus side for ownership, I have not yet heard one convincing reason I would want an ONAN 16 HP engine on my tractor versus a Kohler 16HP, but since I do own several non WH Kolher twins, I do know from experience twins are smoother - much smoother than a single lung engine could hope to be. On the negative side, those who have had to repair Onans can rightly state the cost of doing any substantial repair work to the engine tends to get cost prohibitive VERY quickly. The gasket kit alone can cost more than an entire rebuild kit for a Kohler. I have 2 416-8's (one K and one M) , a C160 and a 520H which I bought 3 years ago. Guess which one is last on my rebuild list. Hint - it has an Onan engine in it. Why bother with the 520H at all then? I do want the convenience of a hydro for winter work. I'm sorry, but the grass in the intake screen is just way too much a PITA for me to ever consider using the engine for lawn care. Used for cutting "normal" lawns which don't get ignored and get trimmed more than just once a month, the B-80 would provide the same results as the MIGHTY ONAN with about 1/2 the fuel usage - maybe even less. In many respects, ONAN the EMPEROR has no clothes. It's just not a good look for me.
