4 pointsHey guys. Hope everyone is doing well. Here is an updated picture of Riley after we got home from a local fair. She took fouth out of about 70 tractors. She was very excited to get her first trophy.

3 pointsHah! Made ya look! I just wanted to show ya'll my white wheeled horse - it's an "85 and came with silver wheels. After I put the white fronts on - I liked 'em so much I painted the rears white too. I really like the white wheels better even if they aren't correct. One of the cool things around here is nobody really seems hung up on having everything factory correct. I used Rustoleum Antique White spraybombs - front are Gravely white? Pimp my horse

2 pointsHere's a few pics I took today, lots of Wheel Horses there. I think at least 10 members there today and a few more coming tomorrow.
-
2 pointsMy favorite is any older Wheel Horse but I seem to lean toward the 70's C series hood the best because it looks the most like a real tractor.

1 pointI was wondering if it was possible for a member or moderator to set up a poll to find RS's favourite hood/bonnet design covering all the production years. Here's what I was thinking, members post in their examples on one thread, when the 'folks in the know' think all the models have been covered someone with the 'clicknology' could number them and set up a Poll on another post which we could then vote on. It would be interesting to see all the different designs (how many?) to show how evolved and to find out which one RS likes the most. If this is achievable can I suggest we stick to design and to hardware only (not get into decals). Also clear pictures taken from the same perspective would make comparisons easier. This could be fun and educational as well. I've posted this as a possible example for the 300/400/500 line, I think the only other variation would be the 520 with the louvered top ? There would defiantly be models that I wouldn't vote for, but picking one....... would be tough.

1 pointI had a bunch of my WH's out and about last weekend. I brought out 14 tractors this time around and my buddy had 7 there too! Makes a nice pile for folks to look at and remember the WH's they had back in the old days! Lots of good stories get told at these shows. The rain dampened the fun on Saturday and it was quite muddy, but it cleared up around noon and Sunday was a great day all around. Thanks to qd-16 for coming down and checking out my collection. He wanted to scope out some of my RJ35's for comparison on his RJ35 he is working on, thanks for coming down!

1 pointAs some of you my screen name Riley088 is after my daughter Riley who was born in 2008. Last year she decided to take claim of my 1077 that was in really nice original condition. Everytrhing on it worked the way it was supposed to with no issues so I felt safe with her on it .She loved taking around the yard with of coarse myself or my wife right with her. Torwards the end of last season she said "daddy i want you to paint my tractor this winter" I was thinking this will be a nice winter project. Then she said "daddy I want it pink" so off to home depot to let her pick out what color pink she wanted. the tractor was taken all the way down and the work began. It was a great one to do. She absolutly loves it and thats what makes it worth it. Enjoy BEFORE

1 pointMy friend Austyn (WH-AG) informed me the other night that his dad's auction had two non-running Wheel Horses in today's sale. I couldn't be there, so Austyn bid for me. He got both C-120 Automatics for a total of $80.00 for the pair. Granted one doesn't have an engine, but nonetheless, it looks like a pretty good deal. Picking them up tomorrow.

1 pointI'm pretty new here on RS and have talked and met a couple of the members. I just started a restore on a C-105 and have a B-165 lined up next as well as a C-175 waiting in the wings. As you can tell I am a square hood kinda dude...but even I couldn't walk past this beauty when I saw it. I had to have help identifying it for sure so thanks Bill!! Found covered in dust and a pile of parts from other tractors on top was this little round hood beauty. Been told it is a '57 RJ-35. Side even has "Pond" stamped in the side and was told it looks complete and original. Needs some work but I'm just happy this little pony will be joining the herd.

1 pointI hope this thread runs its course quickly. While it doesn't break the rules, I've never liked posts of this nature.

1 pointcan't wait! Looks like stevasaurus did good so far on the weather! We should be bringing 6 or 7 tractors to show.

1 pointrydogg, I completely agree, and I as a CL seller too have been burned. Particularly my Hoyt I am trying to sell. So I can understand why he did sell it when a guy with cash in hand showed up. The thing that tipped my scale was I gave him my number and said, if you have to get a hold of me please call. If not I'll be there Saturday cash in hand. IMO it would've just been nice if this guy would've picked up the phone and say hey Nate, I have a guy that wants to get it tonight, can you make it tonight? That's what I would've done. Either way, it wasn't the first nor the last. A little courtesy can go a long way from the buyer and seller. A few bad apples can leave a sour taste, especially if the person is new to the hobby. I do want to extend a thank you and an appreciation also to like minded honest people. Deals can still be done and made on a word and handshake. Not all is lost...not yet at least. lol

1 pointAs stated above, the pin is not tapered, but the hole in the PTO side of the engine is machine slightly smaller than the hole in the flywheel side. Punching the pin out the wrong way can not only enlarge the hole and prevent the pin from being secured tightly, but it can also damage the pin. Always punch from the PTO side, and reinsert from the flywheel side. Also, as stated above, download and read the manual. I have found it helpful to read the reassembly section prior to doing any disassembly.

1 pointThanks everyone for sharing, I knew I wasn't the only one who this has ever happened to, selling or buying. I just needed to vent. Ken B you are absolutely right, there are more good guys that bad, the good guys though never seem to get the highlights. When you do something nice for someone, you can make a friend for a life time. I woke up this morning, feeling all better, back on the hunt again

1 pointLong term forecast.........................73 and 20% chance. Looks like it is going to be our best weather yet! Just over one week away. Load up those machines and get ready for a great time! Plowing will be allowed again this year. Make sure you have a machine that is ready to work and let's have some fun! T-shirts have been ordered and those that have pre-ordered...........they will be shipped out to you after the show has completed. Thank you to everyone that has and continues to support our show. We couldn't do all of this without you!!!!!!!

1 pointBack when my daughter was in 4H we tried to use one of the tractors and a 4 wheeled wagon to haul hay, feed, etc. to and from are big trailer where they made us park the trailers a little over 1/4 mile away from where the live stock was kept. I unloaded the Wheel Horse and wagon, Before I could even load supplies on the wagon a fair official came up and ask to see are proof of insurance. I said we were covered under a blanket policy. He said that was not good enough and that I had to have a separate policy just for running around the fairgrounds. I told him that was BS he preceded to tell me that if I wanted to purchase a policy for use of the tractor on the fairgrounds that their was an agent in the fair office building. Well you can guess what I thought about that. I then asked him if his last name was Capone.

1 pointWe have all been burned so many times it ain't even funny. Lots of sellers get burned as well. I can't count how many times I have held a tractor, a boat or whatever for someone that tells me over the phone to consider it sold and that they will be there on such and such a date. Many times that date comes around and I'm left there twiddlin my thumbs all day and the buyer never shows up. So, as a seller, unless I know and trust you, no mores holdsies.... Remember, there are more good guys out there than bad guys. Wheel Horse's are hot items these days, there are plenty of people out there willing to cough up the dough for a nice one, especially a desirable model. I once held an outboard motor for a guy that was willing to travel all the way from Indiana to CT. to get it, but I'd have to wait a few weeks. Him, his wife, the two dogs AND the cat showed up right on time. I offered to fire up the barbeque for some dogs and burgers for lunch and they took me up on it, great time, great people.

1 pointThe boss finally approved the plans to head down for the show on Saturday. I will have the family in tow, but will be there with the 854 and an attachment or two. Looking forward to meeting a few of you on Saturday. Dave

1 pointDepends on the man. I've made deals, had better offers come by and passed. A few deals were long distance pickups that had to be planned very similar to yours. One actually fell through but I didn't loose any sleep on it cause my word is a handshake or contract. In the end your reputation is all that really matters. Sorry it happened to you cause I know how it feels to be on your end. Something better will come up, they always do.

1 pointWe took the boat that I purchased from my uncle for a day of cruising, fishing, and tubing everything worked flawlessly here are some pictures of our day. Now I am torn as to which one to keep the 18 foot boat can be used almost anywhere but the 21 foot cuddy boat needs to go to the river or a larger lake.

1 pointThis is a project that gives me hope for the next generation, we need more teachers like you.

1 pointWhat another exciting night of tractor club! Club meeting #3 was a huge success! The kids were ready to work and get dirty, and that they did. We had a few club members absent due to previous commitments. Those that were in attendance did not disappoint. Breaking down the tractor continued tonight and the hand sanding has commenced. I am very proud of the kids for their patience and persistence. They are understanding that this will be a long, but rewarding chore. Hope you enjoy some of the photos from tonight!

1 pointAfter mowing wet grass, it gets cleaned out by "feel" using a scraper if required. At the end of the year, it is removed and every bit is cleaned off then sanded and painted and the cycle starts over again. Dry grass mowing and it just gets put away. The 48" deck I have had for 25 years has never needed a repair and isn't close to needing one.

1 pointWell, this thing does run. A bit louder than I would have liked. Most of the noise is from the air intake. I first started the engine without an aircleaner, fitting the factory aircleaner did quieten it down a little, but its still noisy. I'm thinking of doing something similar to what Kelly is doing on his diesel V twin project - a remote air filter assembly in the nose of the tractor. The exhaust right now is a quicky to try a couple of different mufflers. So far I've only tried a little Gravely muffler and its bigger cousin, the cub cadet/JD muffler. Exhaust note is probably a little louder than a big block Kohler. I hope to try a 300 series horizontal muffler on it in the next day or so. Once the muffler is decided on, I'll build something nicer. Mechanically the engine is relatively quiet - you'll get a little diesel rattle as you throttle up from low speed, but its not as obnoxious as I had feared. I started the engine using the recoil. As others have noted, it does take a good pull, but the compression release does make it possible. I did forget to mention above that the engine does not have a pressure relief valve for the oil pump which I thought was a little odd. Searching online for a spec on acceptable oil pressure I came across a couple of reports of over 200 psi when the engine was cold. I had a cheapy oil pressure gauge handy so hooked that up and pegged it straight away. So I think those reports are somewhat accurate. I still need to invent some sort of throttle linkage and idle stop screw, being a generator version my engine came with the fixed speed throttle control. The Carrol Strem engines come with a different arrangement that is set up for variable speed with a cable control. The on/off valve on the gas tank drips a steady supply of diesel all over the front of the tractor. There is a fancy little rubber doohickey in there that might be just dry from sitting the last 7 years, hopefully it will fix itself.

1 pointSo I've made a little more progress. Here's where I'm at now. I still have some more touch up paint, decals and finishing tweaks here and there, but It' almost done. I'm pretty happy with the hood stand/tank support. It does what it was intended to do and doesn't look to out of place.

1 pointi'll try mine this month, even though it's an 84 i didn't think it fit in with last months c-series. 84 workhorse gt1600 repainted red by the previous owner. it's my wannabe 416-8 lol.
