This is not as good as removing the tire, but is a pretty painless way to get some paint on the rim with minimal overspray on the tire and its quick. We all want/need to spruce up a set of rims for some reason or other at times and removing the tires just isnt practical - so give this a try... Clean/sand/scuff, whatever, the rim and clean the tire enough so the tape will stick well to the rubber. Using one of the wide tapes (the blue works well on this) get a strip down as shown in the pic and using a sharpish pencil push it between the tire and the rim and drag at an angle letting the pencil cut the arc out of the masking tape and pull it off. I find its easier to do one strip of tape at a time, the pencil doesnt want to cut two layers at a time as easy as one. Next using a piece of newspaper, hold it over the rims edge and use the pencil to 'cut' out the arc of the rim making it much easier to get a large area covered with minimal fuss. Of coarse there a little paint will get on the tire, but seems any of these types of taping off will allow some paint to get by, and this is the fastest, easiest way I've tried. In this case I had bought two mounted 570-8 trailer rims/tires and the rims were powder coated in bright white and my D-180 needed almond, sooo...

I tried to use wisdom to explain how Akron could give the Wolverettes such a good game. All I could come up with is that Michigan is just not that good.

You know, I just have to say this. The BTN runs the last weekends games all the next week, and I sometimes enjoy watching a game I did not get to watch on Saturday, but this last week, every time I tuned into the BTN they were running the Michigan vs Notre Dame game. Give me a break...11 other games were played last Saturday. I'll bet they do not run the Acorn vs Michigan games as often this week...Michigan was lucky, as they often are, can't believe they did not put the time back on the clock after the review for 1st down at the end of the game. Sorry for the rant, but even you Michigan fans have to admit...shananagans...at home...in the big house...are you kidding me!!! If you are that good...prove it...don't have it handed to you at home...shameful. $$$$$, I hope it has not come to this. I realize that Michigan has no control over what the refs do, but this kind of thing seems to happen more there then anywhere else. Shame & Shananagans All of you Michigan fans really know who won that game...sleep well. BTW...I picked Michigan to win...not to have it handed to them.

Jan, the advice given to change the field coils is the proper advice. In a classic style DC motor, permanent magnets determine the strength and polarity of the magnetic field around the armature and therefore the overall strength and direction of the motor. In a starter generator configuration, where the output of the generator must be controlled, permanent magnets cannot be used. If permanent magnets are used, the output of the generator would be dependent entirely on its speed. In the SG scenario, permanent magnets are removed and variable strength ELECTROMAGNETS are used instead. Electromagnets consist of an iron core (pole shoes in the SG) and a winding around the iron core (the field soils in an SG). The DIRECTION in which field wires are wound around the pole shoes determines the polarity of the electromagnet field created by the field coils. The polarity of the field coil / shoes in relation to the armature determines which way the motor turns. To reverse the field coil / pole polarity, you MUST reverse the direction the wire is wound around the pole shoes.

Got it!! I changed polarity by using the new inside of the S/G in the old outside, It,s turning the right way now, and running again!

I recently bought a Kohler k160 motor that I was told had a broken rod which was ok as all I wanted was the ignition system off it for another motor upon closer inspection I found that the motor was siezed and that the rope starter pulley was loose on the crankshaft and shucking back and forth I deceided to remove the tinware and cylinder head and give the piston a good soaking with penetrating oil a couple of hours later some light raps with a hammer handle and the piston was moving up & down and no broken rod next I cleaned the points and hooked the spark plug back up to check for spark Nothing at all so off with the flywheel and find this is the problem Got out the good old Kohler engine parts book and find that I need a #230075 coil which is NLA soooo on to E-Bay found a used one for $200.00 The next few hours I spent searching online and this is what I found The ignition system is a Bendix Scintilla magneto ignition system this system was used on small one and two cylinder motors and that some old mercury outboard motors used them also I found several web sites that sold vintage outborad motor parts and which had new reproduction bendex scintilla coils for around $60.00 bucks so I ordered one mounted on the motor the only thing i needed to do was lenghen the condenser wire the coil seems to be a exact replacement for the kohler part number after this I lapped the head and replaced the head gasket also new condenser ,points and spark plug also a complete carb rebuild without using any NC chem dip and a differant gas tank and line new muffler too sorry for the back ground noise in this video as my cnc machine was running behind the camera runs pretty good for sixty plus years old Brian

Last weekend, I attended a very large tractor show. The show host organization required proof of liability insurance in the amount of $500,000 if you wanted to ride a golf cart, UTV, "Butt-Buggy" or garden tractor around the fair grounds. Today, I contacted my home/auto insurance agent and asked him about liability insurance for my GT(s) for the purpose of riding at shows. He couldn't come up with any information at this time, but said he would get back with me. My question(s): 1. Do any of you have liability insurance on any of your GT's that you ride at shows? 2. Is the insurance a "blanket" policy where you can use ANY GT you own, or is the policy "vehicle specific" and model/serial numbers have to be on the policy? 3. Some show sponsors cover the insurance for you if you are a member....How many clubs do you belong to that require membership vs. personal insurance? I am not opposed to the insurance, but I hate to have to indentify 1 or 2 GT's on a policy....what if I feel like taking a different tractor to a show to ride? What information can you shead on this issue?

Recently I found my self in some trouble: I ordered a Starter/generator in the US, I,m from Holland and had It shipped here with some help from Stevasaurus, thanks Steven Placed the S/G on the motor and found out they send me the wrong one, counter clockwise in stead of clockwise....problem. Sending It back to the States was not an option because that would cost me another 90 dollar or so. I took the old and new S/G apart an could find no difference what so ever Here,s some pictures of the armature and frame, old and new http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos543_zps0989bdde.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos544_zpsd1f742c6.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos542_zps20fabcbd.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos541_zps5dd4c3da.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos540_zpsecf1bdc6.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos539_zps34289221.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos534_zps5dfc7133.jpg http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r713/Jan_van_der_Zwaan/Wheel%20Horse/iphonefotos533_zpse4aba7e1.jpg The advise I got from the Red Square forums was to change the field coils some how, and so I put the new armature in the old frame, just because It made sense somehow , in the process took out the new brushes and changed them with the old. Placed the S/G and it works, the S/G turned the right way now, problem solved! By taking apart the old S/G I also found out that the cause of all these trouble was a bearing that was worn out and created disbalance in the armature. So If you should have still the original bearing in your S/G maybe It,s a good plan to check it out and renew it or put some grease on it! Hope this can be of any help for those of you with polarity problems and the luxury position to have an old and new S/G in possession Jan

Purdue did hang with Notre Dame, but still lost. And a little respect for Akron please. They played like a Big Ten team today. Acorns are for squirrels, and squirrels are for mini vans in Maryland.

I just replaced mine. I'm pretty sure I still have the Toro part number. i'll check for it tomorrow and I can post the directions - or you should find them in the manuals section here. You could prob buy the cable cheaper in the hardware store, but it was still only something like 13 bucks from Toro. Check your blower number to make sure it's the same though.

The explanation offered about permanent magnets versus field coils is to remove any idea that reversing the wires to the SG will solve the CCW to CW problem.

The CHUTE is turned by a length of wire cable that can be had at hardware stores or tractor supply. It is thin cable...far less than 1/8" dia and with a close twist that makes it very flexible to wrap around the rod. Wrap it around the rod 2 or more times first, then route it tothe CHUTE.

I would view the lack of a battery as a good example of truth in advertising. I believe the seller is showing integrity and a level of respect to the buyer by not trying to pull one over on me with a "15 day special". It is the same issue we have discussed ad nauseum, applying a $300 paint job to a tractor and expecting it to sell for $300 more. Adding a new $200 set of tires and expecting to sell the tractor for $200 more- you are just not going to get that money back. P.s. If I buy my own battery, I have my own receipt to get the item exchanged if it does not happen to meet warranty.

Don't worry about that cat running away...once you have something outside that is theirs, they know how to get back. Also, there will be no mice problem with your horses any more. I've never named any of our cats...they never come when you call them anyway...unless they want to. It looks like they love to play with cicadas also. Know that they will range and stake out their territory...then they will seldom leave that area.

Well Joe, I'm thinking what you're making there wouldn't be considered "neutered crap"... so, maybe this is what other "members" are using to clean their carburetors too.

Craig, Is carb another name for throat or tongue or tummy or anything else related to swallowing...cause if it is, it would clean that up for sure!!!!! LOL We will have to see what we can do about replenishing that supply.........LOL

I have an umbrella policy that covers a lot of stuff. Can't see why GT's wouldn't be covered, although never thought to read up on it pertaining to this subject. If it does cover it, prob. a better way to go as it covers a big range of stuff.

We have had animals for years. They are part of the family. Unfortunately over the years we lost 4 pets 4 years in a row on Mother's Day weekend. Had to put a cat down on Christmas Eve. Needless to say When a holiday comes around I start watching everybody like a hawk. We currently have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Our house sits on a very busy street. I have a 5 foot fence around the back yard for the dogs to play. They do not go out front unless on a leash. Our neighbor has had 4 dogs hit in the time I've lived here. I am constantly rescuing their current dog who keeps getting loose. After one of our other cats died my wife wanted another, I said no because of that street. She convinced me that she wouldn't let it out. For her birthday 5 years ago we went to the shelter to get a kitten she liked in an ad. Well they we're having a 2 for 1 sale that day and this back and white kitten with pink ears kept climbing up my leg. Charlie came home too and they don't go out at all! But they rule the roost!

The one good thing about living up on this mountain in the woods is that I get very little traffic going by my house being that it is a private neighborhood. Trip to the vet is planned for this week and last night she got introduced to the litter box....

Ken: I am glad you checked that question out. I think that $500,000 liability was a little steep and seemed strange. My guess is thinking back that part of that property (the fairgrounds) is owned by the county, part is owned by the antique tractor association. I think the county attorney may have come up with that figure. Some farmers may have blanket coverage of that amount but I think that this excessive and probably not enforced "across the board". I am afraid to call my agent as they might find a policy to cover that -and I don't want it.

    Where are the wheel weights?
  37. 1 point
Outside they have a very short life expectancy, maybe like two years or less... so you gotta get her to the Vet asap if you plan on keeping her around long term. Our last house cat lasted twenty years...some I've read have survived upwards of thirty years. Cats are really social creatures who are all about the routine, so feeding her at regular times everyday is critical. To locate her on one spot Ken, she needs to be introduced to a litter box asap.

What would the neighbors think if they saw you driving that around the neighborhood? Probably have to have a homeowners association meeting!

No oils on this one Jim! I hit an estate sale today and picked up some 5/4 oak for a new transom. Just finished getting it on and bolted up. Real solid now and ready for a big twin! I will sand it and stain the wood tomorrow afternoon. Labor day weekend I came across a listing for a small boat trailer. Got in touch with the guy via email. He had it at his lake house near my house. I asked how much and he replied "free for the taking" so .... I went over and discovered a fairly nice galvanized trailer. I the boat sitting on that trailer and adjusted the bunks and rollers. The trailer looks like it was made for this boat. I will get a few more pics tomorrow.

Hey there Steve and other supporters I had contact with Koen en will see if ordering a new s/g is an option. At first I will try to reverse the S/G myself by reversing the wires, however.... the insides if both cw and ccw look exactly the same so I,m afraid It,s the inner piece that needs to be reversed or re winded. If that,s so, I,m gonna take it to a s/g specialist here in Holland. Steve, skype tomorrow at 15.00 your time?

Not sure what his first academic class will produce for results when it comes to the state curriculum. I only hope that we can help to keep his idea moving forward..
