Well I finally got to go to my first show today with the help of Brrly1 and I got to say it was super great! I talked to and met other people and with the help of a good friend Carl, I got to get my C125 running for the first time since January this year!!!! The spool valve blew the seals and I thought there was no hope until I met Carl and Brrly1 who helped me get the parts, get it fixed, and invited me then took me to my first show. I just want to say thanks to these great guys and all of the other Wheel Horse people. I have felt very welcome in this hobby. Probably the best hobby in the world!!! Now, I look foreword to many more shown and friends!!

Well for the 2nd year in a row, I got rained out of the garden tractor pull. Still lots of tractors and interesting contraptions around. Only nuts I saw there were Buckrancher and Jo. Flea market was big but this is starting to bug me. People bring all kinds of stuff AND I MEAN STUFF!!! and then they overprice everything and have to take all most everything home. Hardly seems worth it. Our site at the Steam Pageant we price most things to sell because we want them gone! Well didn't get any puller pics. When they started coming out the rain started. Very cool video at the end. Had a wonderful day with my WH friends Karl (rockinhorse) and Lane (Lane Ranger) at Elnora on Saturday. I know everyone loves to see pictures so I have 50+ to post. As Lane said, the photos are in no particular order...Just nice pictures of interesting items. I could have taken 1000 pictures and never even got everything that was there! Enjoy..

I had a great time today at Elnora, Indiana (Daviess County Four H Fairgrounds) at the White River Valley Antique Association's 29th Annual Show. Well, baby still hasn't had it's first bath yet...eventually it'll go to work with me and get steam cleaned at some point. Had to change the oil three times the other night just to get it to turn over... the sludge in there was thick like tar in there from not being changed, and sitting so long. Almost started thinking I was going to get it running again until I discovered the carb was leaking like a sieve. The kit for it came in the mail today, so I skipped the tractor parade to clean and rebuild the carb, replaced the fuel line, cleaned the gawd awful, funky crud outta the fuel tank, to finally get some fire in the hole. Actually, it turns out to be a pretty good runner...but found I'm gonna have to go through the sloppy steering now. We are back in San Francisco now. Here I am eating dinner in the famous Cliff House Restaurant, overlooking the Pacific Ocean as the sun was setting. More pictures will be added when I get home. Sorry guys. I didn't see a single red tractor...no, wait. Yes I did.

Since Kelly wet your appetites about Wheel Horse tractors at Indy with his story and pictures of his White Walls from the Indy 2 1/2, I thought I'd also share these pictures I've dug up by scouring the internet. A while back, several of us had been discussing some Indy stuff and it prompted me to go looking. If I remember right, it was sorekiwi that posted a pic that showed a Massey and a Wheel Horse Charger both behind a pit wall, someone else posted a Panzer towing a racer. I had the thought that rather than searching for pics of tractors from the era, I should search for Indy Pit Pictures. I managed to come up with this small collection from the early 60s. There is at least one Wheel Horse in every one of these pictures. The key is to look at the background. Some of you have seen these before, but many of you have not. Enjoy guys! Sometime, I would love to find the time to be able to look through the photo archive albums at the Speedway in Indy, They have hundreds of thousands of photos. A year or two ago at the show, one of the prizes was several reprints of official Indy Motor Speedway Wheel Horse pictures. They are copyrighted material that can't be posted online though.

Hey had a good time sat. I think we were the ambassadors for RED SQUARE yesterday. People have a lot of interest in wheel horse's and asked a lot of questions yesterday. Hope we get some to join . It's funny how people would come up and start talking wheel horse stuff as we were in the flea market area quess the shirts give it away Brookvile tractor show end of the month plan on going should be a good one .

It would have to be a 312-8 (just like mine) Keep it simple, keep it cheap, reliability is better than anything mechanical has any right to be. Just a good all year round working tractor.

Spent another few hours this afternoon chopping into 3/8 RSJ... The result now being the front pivot bearing that provides articulation. An hour with a 31mm and 51mm hole saws was worth it! I'm now on all fours, still need the cradle completing to hold the rear transmission. Cheeky shot showing the dual articulation

Got the fuel pump to work! ​ Finally!! Definitely getting gas to the carb. Of course, now the carb is spitting gas out---looks like I'm in bad need of a gasket!!! Took a quick spin around the house, couldn't resist. Nothing like a first ride on a wheel horse, eh? Thanks for all your help my friends.

OK guys, I corrected the post. Sorry, it was late last night when I typed that and was a little excited over my picks. Yes the order is by the weeks won/lost record first, and then the ties are in alphabetical order. BTW...all the Big Ten teams won yesterday except that Navy beat Indiana.

Sometimes it seems like the prices of Wheel Horses are all over the place. Some people get really lucky and buy a Wheel Horse with 3hours on it for $75 dollars but that not the norm. We all know what these tractors are, and what they are capable of. So to me $1650 is realistically not a bad price for a machine that can be used over and over (virtually trouble free) for multiple task for the next 20 years. I would not sell my 312-8 (with 565 hours on it) for $1650.

I tried putting the deck and mule drive from my 314-8 on my 73 Raider 10. I am tilling with the 314 for the summer and the little Raider didn't come with a deck. Having a deck in the shed next to a tractor without one was killing me. The front tire rubs the mule drive on left turns though... The pulley gaurd on the 314-8 measures 3 3/16". The pulley gaurd on my 69 Raider 12 measures 3". The front tires on my 73 are an inch wider than the 69 also. 6.5-5.5. I honestly thought all mule drives were the same Does the 73 take the same size mule drive as my 69? And is 6.50 the correct tire width for the 73? Thanks, Kevin

Two problems here... 1) I had a 9 and 3 record this week, and 2) there's something wrong with your alphabetical order. You listed it by won / loss record, which makes perfect "sense". And about that, " I have never been used to being on top", TMI Dude!

Bringing up the rear!

My son and I are currently restoring our first Horse. Through the restoration the thought process is that we are going to do it up nice, but there is a limit to how far we are going to go. It's only a Garden Tractor. Not a Show Car.. and that's not to diminish it, we will probably get more joy out of it when it's done than I did out of my 1964 Pontiac 2+2 that took over 6 years and many thousands of dollars to restore.. in the end I hated the car because it was too nice, and cost too much money to do. When I finally sold it I didn't get anywhere near the money invested in it back. When our Horse is done, we would not lose any money if we decided to sell it. But I don't think we would ever sell it!

Thanks, I was kind of thinking of the diesel route. I have a jug of heating oil that was left over from a tank I pulled. Not good to burn but probably perfect for soaking the trans.. that little bit of penetrating oil that's already in there will probably be a little bit of a help.. I'm really hoping not to have to tear it down.

Iowa was lucky...they have a long way to go....they play Iowa St. next week...lucky for them they do not play Illinois this year.

Glenn, I married a Finnish girl, whose family settled in Ontonagon when they came over...sounds like we both did OK. BTW...there is a great tavern in Wakefield on RT# 2...it is just east of the lake on the south side of the road. Ha Ha Glen...I can make it there in 7 1/2 hours. One other thing...don't order Pizza (they have no clue there)...you have to come to Chicago for that.

The setscrew bolts for those hubs will NEVER be tight enough if all you use is an adjustable or open end wrench. The screw WILL loosen up again, guaranteed. You need to torque those to 30 LB/FT and the only way you are going to do that is with a proper 8-point socket. Fact is though, as others have already said, that if the set screw is worn, you need a new one. The KEY is also worn, and most likely the keyway slot in the axle as well. More info here:

Thought I'd post up some more pictures of the internals for anyone who is interested. Despite the crankcase being aluminum, it is a pretty stout piece with lots of stiffening ribs: The underneath of the engine has two little "windows" to allow forced air from the blower housing to coll the underneath of the engine. For this reason it would be a good idea to mount the engine on the chassis with the centre section of the crankcase clear to allow the air to flow: The tapered and the straight cranks. Note that my new straight crank doesn't have a plug in the end of the oil gallery drilling. The tapered crank has an aluminum plug hammered into it. I tapped the hole to accept a short 5/16 setscrew. The balance shaft: And the cylinder head: And the piston: Wont have parts till Monday, I hope to have this thing back together next week.

confirmed they are autum olives. they are edible but super invasive like choke cherries. i think turning the area into a private camp site will be fun. i'll start this fall after the leaves drop. no one will be able to see in there at all, it's dense.

There was a service bulletin on tightening steering on round hoods. You replace roll pins with over size ones at the spindles and steering shaft. I did it to my 704 and it drives like new! Bulletin WH 61-90 #49 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wheelhorsetractormanuals8/files/

Friday I borrowed a truck from work, bought some ramps Friday night from Northern Tools, and today I went and picked it up! So as of 6:00pm, I am now officially a Wheel Horse owner! Woo hoo!! There's a horse in the bed! Of course it started raining about 2 miles from the house. Here in NC it has rained just about every day for the past month. It was pretty difficult to load. The 6' ramps made it difficult to push up, andthen the deck got stuck on the tail gate. I had to lift the rear of the tractor up and shove it in. I should have taken the deck off, that would have made it much easier. Live and learn... Got it unloaded pretty easily and didn't get the company truck stuck in the yard!

I love the 953/1054 also, but as far as big and tough you may want to look for a GT-14, mine has a Front end loader and 3 point on it and it is a Beast!

I'm kinda partial to my 1054. It's heavy, and heavy duty. I love the looks of them too! So I would vote 953, 1054, or GT14

That's why I don't restore, I recondition. Everybody has a choice to do with their tractor as they see fit. There can be no right or wrong if you are happy with it. Gene...

Hello, I just thought I'd put this up...my solution to this "problem". Its not rocket science I know but it works, pictures speak a thousand words.. Anyone wanting to use this idea, Use an angle grinder,( pins are hardened) Leave minimum gap in ring (just clears bracket) Thread ring on horizontally to the ground from outside(nearest wheel) I've made these for both my tractors, done some tilling and a couple of mows and haven't lost one yet, I'm not saying its impossible, but I think highly unlikely. Installing with the tiller on is a doddle! :thumbs:
