I refurbed a B-100 auto for my youngest son Ryan, in 2008 he was 8 years old so the hydro was the way to go much easier to drive, well at the time, I was pressed for time trying to build 2 tractors in about 6 weeks so I put a good running 8hp Kohler in it, tractor was and is mostly a show tractor but gets the wheels driven off it at the shows, as the years went on he asked if we could rebuild the orig. 10hp, I put it off as the 8 hp ran great and I could never find the time to do it right, well this year I went in the barn to move tractors out and get them ready for the up coming shows, his puked gas out the carb and would not start, I know a simple carb cleaning and all would be good, BUT I bought a C-100 with a near new 12hp in it a few years ago, had about 50 hours on a NEW kohler engine, I tried selling it a few times but I guess $400 was to much, because I still have it, so the other night me and Ryan pulled the tractor out and fired it up to make sure all was good after setting a few years, yup runs like a top, so out it came, tore the tins off cleaned it up, mind you this needs to be done in about 10 days for the MI WH show, so clean up was bare min. I dug out the paint left from his tractor build so the color would be the same, and shot it today, I think he is pretty happy he's getting a 12hp, kinda a bonus for his 13th B-day last week, hard to believe it was 5 years ago we built his and his brothers tractors, any way here is a few pics of the engine update, and more to come in the next week. My neighbor's daughter turned 14 yesterday, so they had a party. I think they invited Chris and me so they could be noisy and we would not call the cops. We fooled them and showed up. We had a ball, and I was even dancing with some of the women there. I did not take a lot of pictures, but I did get a few before the party started. They made Carletas (sp)...WOW. All the parts of a pig (except the head) boiled in lard with spices that included cinnamon (for color). You put this on a flour tortilla with salsa, beans and whatever else you want...unbelievable good. Check this out... Augustine and Megiel Jose keeping a close eye on the cooker. He has done this many time before. He stirs it with a good sized paddle. I just love Mexican cuisine...and it does not get more authentic then this. I hate to say it, but I pigged out.

I finally ended up getting a WH for free, so I can keep looking for the one I really want. I'll have to post up some pics once I get it home and cleaned up a bit. Hi everyone, I just got my first wheel horse and I've been told both. Its either a 1961-401 or a 1962-551. It has a two piece transmission and a front curved axle. So what do I have? Also what makes it what it is?

Dont look at current auctions..they are meaningless.. people can ask $2,000 for a tractor worth $200..doesn't mean its worth $2,000! Instead, do your ebay search, and on the left side you will see "show only" choices..click on "sold listings".. that shows auctions that have ended, and what tractors actually sold for.. you will notice quite a difference! Without any doubt, It's a 1961 model 551. The only mid engine tractor with the 2 pc trans, Hood stand has the area for the battery. The original engine would have been the H55 spec 2113. A 401 would have a 3 pc trans and a different hood stand.

I'm always looking on C/L for stuff, and sometimes I find something good. Buddy and I go to a couple local yards just to see what is there. Mostly for car/truck stuff, but walk right by the tractors, blowers and other stuff. Went there one day and there was what was left of I think a 416. I took the front axle with like new tires, and some deck stuff. Got that for $25. The spindles have a brace welded on, and I remember reading somewhere there was a kit to beef them up, must be this is one of the kits. I put the axle n stuff on my 1045 diesel, and it's tighter, but also little harder to steer, tires are little wider than the 16x5.5s saw tooth that were on it. New ones are turfs, but neither steer that great in little bit of mud. Went to another yard. They had a coupe horses there, but nothing really great. Had a vertical shaft there that had 10" 5 lug wheels, but I have enough wheels/tires, don't really need anymore. Had a small Kohler there in some piece of equipment, but have 3 K181s, and didn't really need anything from it. Recoil was bent so couldn't use that. Looked over in the corner, buddy was on his phone pointing and a 108 RER. Was thinking to myself, what in the he!! is he pointing at that for?? So walk over, he is pointing at the front tires, and couldn't believe what I saw!! It had both 4" front hubcaps, been looking for a set since I got my ranger over 4 years ago. Always missed them on ebay, or didn't have enough money, or just plane too much for what they wanted. They had a little surface rust, and very small pitting, but no dents, and they polished up nice. Couldn't wait to get home and put 'em on!!!!! Just need some for the rear till I make a set of weights.... I picked up a John Deere 70 couple months ago with no motor. Thought no biggy, just get any vertical and put it on. After some research, they use some funky PTO/crank end, so not just any motor will work. After not finding the PTO pieces, and not really needing a mower, blower or really anything else for it, already have 2 horses with mowers, blowers and plows, decided just to get motor and use it for whatever. I got a 16 horse opposed Briggs for $100. Got to the guys house, walked up to where the tractor/motor was, and looked over and saw some tires. He had two in great shape front tires for a 1045!!!! They didn't say wheel horse on the side, but everything else was exact. Got them for free. Lastly was a K341 that was on C/L. I do a search now and then, sometimes people don't list the stuff in the proper section, or maybe just missed it. Well this guy had this motor, was asking $325, with some other stuff. So I called the guy, and come to find out it's the motor off the tractor that I got the front axle/tires/deck parts off of. He said the whole tractor looked like it was in real good shape, was clean, and well maintained. I know the axle was clean, and all kinds of grease in the wheels. Not sure bout the wire holding the tierods on tho.... He grabbed all the wiring, switches, safety stuff, anything that was attached to the wiring. Motor turns over, has compression and is complete. Squirt some gas in the carb and put some jumpers on it, I'm sure it will fire right up. Got that for $200 and all the stuff with it. I plan on making this motor into a small pan to put into the other 1045 I have. I think I have most the pieces to it, if not hope Kelly does!!!! I need to get a new place to put my photo's, right now they are on my computer, but the site won't let me put them on for some reason.

God this was a while back now shame that I ever sold that beauty Mcdarby c81 is my old account and only just rememberd my user name still don't know my password or email address haha but this was a really rare piece of kit over here cannot even remember who we sold it to would be great if the person we did sell it to could pop up if he has an account on here

Not only did he steel the mic for Bill, i bought that lawn ranger at the show and while i was paying the guy, he jumps on it and takes off (with his dad) we need to watch this kid. Happy pawpaw

I picked up a nice little atlas 618 lathe last night, it looks to be in pretty good shape. My son in law came over to help me unload it, I think he's more excited to get it than I am.

No such thing as happy wife happy life. You make your live miserable to make them happy, and if not your still miserable. Can't live with them, pass the chips.... I've always found it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.... I'd look into swapping the engine. I just found a 16 horse and some other pieces for $200. It's complete. Nelson muffler, carb/filter, wiring, switches, part of the dash and even the steering wheel and column. Don't look for just motors from a wheel horse, as others will fit too. Do a search for Kohler on C-list, find all kinds of stuff.

Well I'm 99.9% sure this will be at the MI WH show, I had it out driving it today, did some temp wiring on it, installed a foot control for the trans, have all the sheet metal back on it, installed a lift pump to move fuel from the back of the tractor to the engine, mounted a temp fuel tank, bought a ATV batt. and got it mounted, built new batt cables, went over all the nuts and bolts to be sure they were tight, had a issue with the injection pump, I'm not diesel guy but I own it, so I figured out how it works and fixed it, still need to time the injectors better but it runs pretty good, I'll deal with it later, I have a ton of other stuff to finish up before the show in 2 weeks. I'll get pics tomorrow.

Check what was mentioned above 1st....then check your high/low shifter...you should feel when the gear slides and engages the other gears....if the shifter fork broke it will not hold it in gear and will be pushed just enough to be in between gears.....I would double check everything on the outside before you have to drop the trans and split it...If ya have to split it there are some great video's to walk ya thru it and some great guys here to help ya out....and I have all the parts you need to replace anything that is broke... MIKE.

I would check the drive pulley on the trans-make sure key is good and set screw is tight. Then- check your hubs at the rear wheels- make sure they are tightened and the keys are good-Good Luck-Al

apart from using the tiller( ihave no experience with that, yet), I can tell you that an 8hp will plow, disc, cultivate your garden, mow with a 36-42" deck. push a blade, pull a 1000lb trailer, etc. and that was with a 4sp. you have the advantage of an 8spd. I wouldn't jump from 8 to 10hp. (that's what I did). if you feel you need more power, go to at least 12hp. I think the 312-8 is the best bang for the buck, right now. you should be able to find a 312-8 very reasonably priced. you could probably sell the 308 and add a little to it and get a turnkey tractor

Hi all! Thanks again for your help, I'm not sure I'd do without it! After reading through various threads and after some encouragement by you guys I went out today and bought a puller and oh my it did wonders!! I put tension on it and got an air chisel on a piece of metal slowly hitting the hub and at first it was very slow however I got half way and the puller just slid it off, I was very pleased as I had great doubts in getting the left hand side hub off. After removing the hub I opened it up and after a quick sand on the brake shaft the left side slid off revealing all the gears, which in my opinion weren't too bad however I am no expert! I got some pictures for you experts too see what you thought: Is the next step clearing the old workbench and laying out the parts inside and getting to the other axle? Or should I attempt to get the other hub off first? Thanks again, you guys have been a great help!! Tom

Sand the pulley grooves smooth so the roughness does not wear the belt. If you think about it the belt is constantly sliding into and out of the groove. The belt guard must be installed for the belt to slip on the engine pulley. The bottom lip of the guard supports the belt slack because of the loss of tension and this forces just enough belt forward to the engine pulley. There is an older service manual that has bits and pieces that apply to many models. Remember this is a garden tractor and not a Semi rolling down the road at hi-way speed for hours on end. You are not going to build up the heat or pressure's that a large piece of equipment will build up or a race care running at high rpm creating heat in the transmission. Like said 80-90 will be just fine. Plus it will be a lot kinder to that transmission in winter use.

26X12-12's on my 312-8.. I had to raise the fender pan by an inch, the foot plates were cut and re-angled to gain a bit of tire clearance... I also cut and widened the wheel rims by an inch odd.. The difference in traction is amazing especially with filled rear tires

if you want the 12 x 12 but are willing to come down on your overall diameter...... 24 x12 -12 looks great on the 12 x 8.5 rims on a c series in my opinion........

1958 Wheel Horse Ride-Away Jr. RJ-58, s/n: 101916 Started with essentially just a rolling frame (first image below), and ended up here after !3 calendar months, a lot of parts searching, and a whole bunch of hard-won restore work. that would be a better trade. it is a 1964 . steering wheel and front rims/tires are off a later model like a B-110. also missing the A/C grill emblem. you want to check the gears for excessive play in the center gear box and check deck / blower out and gas tank.
