If you have to sell the 310-8 to help offset the cost or make space for the 520 I wouldn't do it. Sooner or later you'll need the backup. Parts and repairs to that Onan are EXPENSIVE.

It's been such a wet spring that the hay got cut late, I was finally able to have it cut yesterday evening. I got a few pics and a video usually they use a 9 foot haybine but this time they came in with a discbine that had almost a 16 foot cut and was very cool to watch. My children have a couple horses and hay has gotten pretty expensive around here so I had my own little field planted last year. I should get enough to sell 2 cuttings and keep 1 for myself. Here is a short video...quality is not the greatest since I was using my little camera

I bought this a couple of years ago and it has no I'd tag. I want to say it is a RJ 58 but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is the hole in the front grill stock. It looks like it was stamped out.

Mow in 2nd or 3rd depending on terrain, wet or dry, height of the grass. Dry 'n crisp, I zoom in 3rd when mowin' open spaces without ruts, rocks, whatever. Wet grass, 2nd or even 1st depending on the grass height. Enjoy the ride. I don't see how mowing in 3rd hurts any of my Stallions. I treat the Horses for any job well done.

I totally agree. The ride on my IHCC 126 - when the ground get's bumpy and I'm in 2nd gear is pretty rough. I'm beginning to appreciate the merits of a slower 2nd gear on the Wheelhorse. I think if I want to get more yard mowed without vibrating out the fillings in my teeth I need to find a 60 inch deck for my 520-H or better yet, find a 60 inch deck and a 520-8...

specialwheelhorse, You are 100% right about that. That ZT I have is the most bone jarring thing I have ever rode on it's right up there with Navy flat bottom landing craft in rough seas. I only use it for the tightest of spots. Everything else goes to the Horse's

A very special thank you to Karl Lyon. He created the book's online store and worked out all the bugs ahead of time. He did this strictly as a favor to both myself and all Red Square members, as I have never created a web store. He is a very good man. I will be leaving for the show tomorrow and will return home on late Sunday. I will be monitoring the online orders while at the show, but please keep in mind that I will not be shipping until Monday-Wednesday of next week. Don't worry about getting your book autographed as I have signed each and every book. Of course if you want a special inscription, you will have to be at the show. Please note that I will not be writing personal message inscriptions for online orders. Once again, orders begin on Friday. I know that you will be very impressed with this book and DVD. I look forward to seeing everyone's face when they look at it at the show! Michael Martino

Matt, even though you won't see it in person, I am sure that enough pictures will be taken and posted that you will see it from every possible angle.

Looking at the state of the connections on that solenoid, it does not surprise me it was getting hot. The high resistance would be enough to cook it and leave little current to turn the starter. Super clean every connection in the Start/run circuits first and start again before taking things apart. You may as well junk that solenoid though. Stick at it , you'll get there.

I can't help feeling we're still missing something here. As WH nut says, a cooked solenoid could point to the strater drawing excessive current. Have you opened up the starter yet? I'd certainly want to check it out before using a new solenoid, just to be sure. A visual inspection should tell you a lot about condition - also check for side play in the bearings / bushes - its possible perhaps that the rotor rubs on the magnets when its trying to turn the engine but spins freely when there's no load. We'll get there in the end. Andy

Unless you have a golf course green smooth lawn, all your doing is shorting the life of the tractor. I have seen tractors that people mow in 3rd and the tractor is as loose as a goose. Spindles, tie rods, front wheel bearings, axel pivot pin all worn out or extremely loose not to mention the beating the deck takes. These are garden tractors not ZTR's that are designed to mow a lot quicker. Each to their own but if you compare a tractor that has mowed in 2nd or 1st compared to one that's been used in 3rd you will see a big difference. I do agree that 2nd does seem slow at times and maybe a different ratio would be in order but not as fast as 3rd.

The solinoid shows its been hot, which could have happened trying to start it with excessive draw, like a bad starter. becareful with the new one not to keep trying to start it if it does the same thing.

Well, I poked around a bit today in some catalogs for dyes and came up short. Maybe something will turn up later when I look a little deeper. This weekend, I ran into a problem that had me almost rethinking my postulates on ethanol fuels....my wife and I took the boat out Saturday hoping to scratch a crappie or walleye. My motor started like it always does, but the more I ran it it developed a miss and died a few times. I swapped out the plugs hoping for improvement, but still running horribly. A few guys narrowed my problem down to "bad gas" and ethanol on an Internet forum. A call to a local dealer, who listened to my symptoms and asked a lot of questions, suggested I have a bad fuel injector. I asked about the fuel issue and he said it was probably unlikely due to the pattern of symptoms I explained, but he said it's a popular go-to diagnosis for every problem encountered with an outboard today. Of course, this doesn't yet rule bad gas out. Anyway, the motor is going to the shop for who knows how long and for what cost. The thing that got me was that the gas I am having problems with was brand new, so it wasn't terribly suspect to me. But after my boasts about never having a fuel problem I fear I might have jinxed myself. So much for the charmed life. Steve

I have a goal set of driving it to the show! I only need a turbo to make it run now. 370hp injectors just came in and I'm working on getting everything filled with oil and all the annoying stuff done. It is easily within reach and I'm going to be working on it every day this week and drive out Thursday to the show in either this or hopefully not the poop truck. I just got back from senior week so it's a rush now. Here's some of the latest pictures. Got the head torqued down and valves adjusted. I moved onto fabricating my throttle linkage and it turned out well. If I can't start it on Tuesday for a break in test run then I'll call it quits and focus on the show. I'm just so damn close!

You dont say what size deck. It makes a difference if you using a 36" or a 48"er in third gear. I'm never in a rush to finish mowing so I use 2nd gear with any of my eight speeds reguardless of the deck size. Mike........

In 5 days we will be hitting the road to PA. I am bringing the mugs and also a very good friend of mine who makes buttons has made us 50 button with the following artwork so we can identify ourselves at the show. the first fifty members who come and sign the member guest book will get a button that they can write their name or RS username on with a sharpie. Or just pin it to your hat or shirt. Still time to have a mug made if you have not requested one do so soon as I will have to start printing soon. Remember the mugs are no cost to members.

I NOTICED THAT EVERYBODY LOVES THE ONAN TWINS AND I SELL THEM FAST. BUT IT SEEMS LIKE MOST PEOPLE HAVE HAD SOME TYPE OF TROUBLE WITH THEM. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT ELECTRICIAL PROBLEMS . I HAVE HAD 3-4 ONANS THAT RAN GREAT, BUT THEY JUST SCARED ME FOR THAT REASON. THE $1000 REBULD IS CRAZY, I WILL STICK WITH MY SINGLE CYLINDERS KOHLERS. JUST MY 2 CENTS BOWTIE IN OHIO
