2 pointsI'm new here, but had a Wheel Horse maybe C-100 ? in the 90's for about 5 to 8 years . 3 speed with hi and lo transmission. 36 inch rear discharge 8 hp motor mowing 3 acres of lawn with big heavy cast iron reels, sold by Wheel Horse. A wheel horse dealer in Stowe Vt showed me a skamatic of the reels wheel Horse sold but could not get new gears for them Went to the Toro dealer I Essex Junction Vt they didn't know what I was talking about. Blew the 8 HP motor sold everything and bought a used one year old Cub cadet hydro twin cylinder hydro with foot gas pedal, 46 side discharge deck. it kept burning drive belts, Cub Cadet dealer told me they were using 1" short belts then another 1" shorter also sold me belt belt guard in one summer so I bought a new 48" deck. Drive belts lasted one season on the new deck. Never no problem with the deck belts. At $29 or $30 a belt each year, this was better. that first year I learned the hard way that their was a problem with their 46" deck. Both Cub Cadet side discharge decks left mowed grass look like horse turds every row mowed. Tried mowing with boot on deck up, put a stone through back side window my van. Bought a sweeper as my lawn grew very fast as it was a farmers field that was fertilized a lot. Had to mow twice a week. Hated that cub tractor. retired a few years back sold my place and everything moved to a southern Vt. trailer park. this winter I bought a 1978 or 1979 C-141 Wheel Horse hydro, with snowplow. This spring I bought a 300 series 42" rear discharge,3 coats rustolium red paint top and bottom. fits great, mows great, no stone into skirting of trailers. have a trailer and do stuff with my tractor in the park. Not sure I like the hydro hand lever miss the standard, but will get used to it. Love my Wheel Horse. Alway wanted another Wheel Horse, should have rebuilt the first Wheel Horse.

1 pointLocal landfill gives away mulch every year so that we put up with their stank and truck traffic. People start getting in line around 3:00 A.M. They ran out by 9:00 last year and we missed out. They usually give out 2 Bobcat scoops. Wife got there around 7:00 and they gave her 4 scoops because she waited 3 hours. Lots of work and the hauler is stinky. Mulch was steaming. Quality time on Elvis though

1 pointI went to Portland Thursday and met up with our very own deiselcowboy ( Matt ) to purchase a Wheel Horse 856 he had listed here on this site. I had never been to the swap meet at Portland, and really didnt know what to expect. First off...wow! What a wonderful swap meet. Second, I cant believe say enough about the people there...everyone I met was so nice. But let me tell you the thing that still has my head spinning...and my emotions on edge. I never met Matt before. Never talked to him before. He didnt know me from Adam. But when I got to Portland, I met with Matt, secured the transaction for the tractor and thought I would be on my way. Not so...Matt loaded my daughter and I along with his two sons into his trailer and pulled us around the grounds so we could get a up close look at the goings on at Portland. He explained everything to us, shared some personal experiences, talked about tractors, family, and life in general. He gave up a few hours of his own time to share the Portland experience with me, and made me feel like part of his family. He even helped to secure a deal for me with another vendor and saved me some money. When it was all over he even went to his own cooler and brought my daughter and I a cold drink. I loved the entire experience, and I will be returning to Portland. I just wanted everyone to know that we have members like Matt and that is what makes places like this such a wonderful place to spend web time! Thanks Matt! One heck of a guy! Eric Here are a few pics from our personal tour.....(phone pics are crappy)

1 pointBath day. Could not stand the white coating of dandelion with the clear coat of pollen and grass. http://s737.photobucket.com/user/LenHaduck/media/image-32.jpg.html edit: nylyon - Clickless

1 pointI mowed the lawn today and I had no issues with the B-100. I took the vent apart on the gas cap. it looked clean. B-100 Bob I think you were right!KB

1 pointI have mowed 2 1/2 acres with a 48 inch deck since 1993 and have never replaced the belt that drives the spindles. i have changed the motor to deck drive belt 3 times.

1 pointIt might do that, but the old machines were built tougher then to. Now days it might scratch the plastic.

1 pointIt's so cool to run 3 horses to mow the lawn. I can only wonder what the neighbors think!

1 pointI'll have to give him a call! Ok, so here she is decked out in her work attire. I've already taken one trip around the lawn, the deck cuts nice, and I haven't even sharpened the blades yet! Yes, I know dirty!

1 pointThanks, Bill but I sent Matt a note, and he said his kit would not fit my tractor. I think that if I put a slide around the bend of the forward lever, like the brass one, similar to the one on the back wheels of the deck, make it ajustable to a brake shaft to a pedal on the right side of tractor. Only cut 2" out of floor. this way I can use the hand lever if need be. Or if I sold the tractor, someone could take the foot pedal off, and run the tractor the way it was made. Richard

1 pointHere is our all original 401. We found this tractor outside of Detroit Michigan on Craigslist from the original family. They had bought it used when it was only a few years old at the time. It was last used in a small air plane hanger to pull a small plane around by the uncle of the gentleman we bought it from. He had passed away leaving it to his daughter & husband who kept it untouched in their garage for 7 years before selling it to us. This tractor has an interesting story & was well taking care of its whole life. The last picture when we picked it up in Michigan from the original owner's son n law. We made some small changes with front wheels & all 4 tires since it didn't have the correct/original wheels on the front. We wanted it to look as original as possible, but we like the ag style tires on the rear better. Other than that it's 100% original. We plan on bringing this to the Wheel Horse Show in June, which will be our first time bringing a tractor. Can't wait!!

1 pointWell done Lars, At least they put a Kohler in it even if it's only 14hp. Deck look's good. If it all runs ok , then you did not pay too much for it at all. The Parts were a BIG Bonus. If you need any parts for it, I'm sure we can help to locate some here in UK/Europe.

1 pointWell, this weekend I'm heading to Arkansas to help my parents by cutting some trees down and work on their water heater. While planning the trip, I mentioned to the wife that I haven't been fishing since I got home from deployment. She took the opportunity to say that she wished I would fish AND hunt more because it apparently makes me easier to deal with and I seem to be happier when I do. And, of course, she like fresh meat. So, I'm dragging my Dad down to the lake like he has done with me so many times. Like I said, I'm a lucky guy.
