7 pointsI came into RS this morning, like many of you do everyday, with one topic on my mind. I wanted information about a tiny little missing part that is of course a necessary piece for operation of an attachment for one of my tractors. The part I need is actually still available new, and I generally like to support my local dealers and did just buy other parts there yesterday. But this time, the part I need is suffering from a case of Toro pricing it towards obsolescence. Even the dealer said I should investigate alternatives. He'd have to order it, and it's just stupidly priced. So I came back and checked all the usual cheaper online options like RCPW, Partstree and mowpart.com, but they were barely marginally below the dealer price. I checked Ebay for a used one (nope) Then, like most people generally do when they come in with one thing on their mind and just want a quick answer, I jumped to the section I wanted and I almost started a new topic in Implements and Attachments, but then it hit me .... I said "self....did you for that answer?... this has probably been covered here before." It's a fairly common part, applicable to multiple attachments. So, up to the trusty search box, I proceeded to search by just the part number, and lo and behold.... 9 topics. Three of which included the specifications I needed to buy my part at the hardware store, and several others with pictures of the OEM part as well as some homemade and makeshift adaptations. So... Thank you contributors for the information I was looking for. I've acknowledged that contribution by hitting the thanks button on those old posts, and hitting the "Like" button so you could see it. Everyone's contributions here over the years are appreciated. Without all the input we've had in the nearly 7 years now, this place wouldn't be the place it is. From the tech and history, to the comic and jokes and everything in between. This is why Iove Thank you all!

2 pointsMy '73 8hp-4spd. What I started with and what I have now. Not done yet, need to tidy up the wiring, recover the seat,etc. and I know the hood decal is the wrong one but it's better than nothing.

Please no links to craigslist unless the item is yours - nylyon) 1957 Wheel Horse Ride-A-Way Jr - $2500 (Durham) what are they worth up north. and no i haven't even considered them at that price.

Today in the mail I received the very first copy: And the DVD Unfortunately, these are the ONLY pictures I am allowed to post (actually I don't have permission to post the DVD picture, but I didn't think it could hurt.) I haven't begun to read the book, that will come tonight. My reference is the Second Edition which I have have read and have sitting on my shelf. So even though I haven't read the book, here's my initial thoughts. First, WOW, the quality is amazing, no kidding. The pages are heavy paper, fantastic binding, this is a true collectors edition book. Next, the pictures, absolutely beautiful. Crystal clear, fantastic quality and there are a lot of new pictures, that I haven't seen in the second edition. So that's all for now. I will begin to read this tonight and give updates as I go along. I'm also planning on watching the DVD!

1 pointOk... 4 of these digits are in the part number, there is an even number of odd numbers of odd and even numbers, neither of which are in the part number and none of them repeat. 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 just kidding.... well, not really, what I said is accurate, but that's not what this topic is about.... Like I said.... the tech...and the clowining... it's all here.

1 pointI just PM'd Matt for my foot control. I always thought this tractor should have that. We got 22 years out of the Onan. Another twenty would be great. Just couldn't possibly buy a tractor anywhere near this quality for 2 grand. Red

1 pointYou could always rig up an offline filtration setup. Put a quick disconnect in the drain so you can pump the oil out of the pan, through a filter and back to the engine through the oil fill. You could run it when the tractor is off duty for the night, unplug it in the morning, check the oil and you're ready to go again. We install offline filtration on a lot of the industrial machines we build.

1 pointBought a new starter (e-bay)...it arrived yesterday and it took all of 5 minutes to remove the 2 bolts and one electrical connection and install the new unit. WOW !!! Touch the starter key and it comes to life in a split second. Marv

1 pointThe first picture is what it looked like when we entered Coles 61 Burban in the first tractor of the month contest. She has gone thru many changes but we never really liked the end result. This tractor had a ton of very deep pitting on it, especially the frame. It is now smoother than it ever was. I spent a week on just the frame work. The mods done were, lowering the seat and fenders, dual pipes, foot control throttle and a pulley change for a little more speed. I made a custom set of front slot rims and I made my own leather seat cover. Other than adding the decals when they arrive this one is finally the way it is going to be! (I really don't mind this one without the decals) She is loud and proud!

1 pointOK, here we go. Measured off a brand new Toro 4629 spring purchased for a great deal of money yesterday! Coil Outer Diameter: 1.500" Wire Diameter: .120" Over All Length (between hooks): 7.500" Maximum Extended Length (between hooks): Huh? This is governed by the tractor and blower you put it on (and what spacers you have on your lift flag). Spring Rate (pounds force per inches of stretch) if possible Sorry, I dont have any way to measure this, I thought I had a fish weighing scale somewhere, but I havent seen it for a while (there's a good possibility its still hanging on the wall in my garage in Indiana!!). Lets just say it is frikkin' stiff! Oh and there is 24 1/2 coils. The length of the coiled part of the spring is 5 1/2". Hope this helps. Let us know if you find a viable alternative!
