1 pointJust aquired my first Wheel Horse. I got the 308-8. Not sure which year. Any advice would be very helpful. Tested the motor, I know that the motor is free but is leaking oil from the head. I believe it is a head gasket but I will not know until I start the teardown. It has the Uni-Drive Part Number- 2988185 with the Tach - A - Matic. I know that the ignition switch is shot, and the starter solenoid works great. I am looking to restore this Horse over the next few months. Like I said, I am open to anyones opinion and advice is much appreciated.

1 pointI picked up a 1964 Wheel Horse 604 tractor in Mt. Vernon , Illinois on Friday. Pretty complete other than the replacement 8 Speed transmission on it. Also bought an original snow plow for this model. Despite the decal -it is no diesel. Original motor, tires and lots of other interesting original parts.

1 pointI totally agree. Don't let the cash bug bite you in the a** You will regret selling it down the road.

1 pointJohn I built one years ago and it was built to fit on a 753 tractor also. I made two L shaped brackets to bolt to tractor frame and then down to the pivot hole where it was pinned to the main part of the turn table. I used a old cutting edge that was wore out. The blade was about centered between the wheels, and it worked fine. About a year ago I started to build another version of that same blade, this time I bought 2 8" by 48" grader cutting edges from my blade supplier. I bought 2 so I might make one to sell if all goes the way I plan. I am pinning it to the mid attach a matic for easy hookup. I think I'll have enough room to lift it up high enough to clear the ground fine. I hope to finish it up in a couple weeks Good Luck with yours they can be very useful for a lot of things Wingrider

1 pointAnother route is to find yourself a 36 inch rear discharge deck. The cut great and will fit between the wheel well's on a compact pick-up truck and into a narrow basement door. Don't ask me how I know... Good luck, Bill

1 pointYou will never be able to buy another new mower like that again. Take your chances when you want to find another one thats not ragged out. . It's not eating anything. It's payed for. You like them alot. Think on that.

1 pointHi Andy, thanks for the wiring loom, that saved dad a lot of pain He managed to fit and work out all the wires - even the connectors were there so it was even easier. here's the latest updates dad managed to get the engine fitted, but had lots of trouble with the fuel pump and carb. but eventually it started. and after some work making the exhuast fit correctly we coul look to put the rest together new belt tin work fitted - I didn't have time to clean the footplates before the first show first drive :D hood decals fender shiny paintwork I'm really pleased it's ready for the first show next week, thanks again to my dad, grandad and uncle Ian for helping me get it all put back together. Also thanks (in no order) to Andy for the wiring loom, stig for the belt guard, points cover, float bowl and cylinder head, Anglotraction for the air filter housing, Mith the rear tyres and finally Neil for letting me buy the horse 20 months ago and bring it 300 miles back home. 1 pointI agree with the other folks on here as far as your emotional attachment to the 520. However, You said it was your Godfather that approached you . There must have been a pretty good friendship with your parents for him to be your Godfather. Maybe he has an attachment as well if he was a good friend to your Dad. Just food for thought. What you could do? Sell it to him with the understanding. If he ever wants to get sell it? YOU get first dibs on it. That way you are both happy. He gets a good tractor that he may have an attachment to as well and it will be used like it should. You will know where it is. As well as knowing it is being taken care of and used by a close friend. You probably can go see it any time you want and maybe even use it a little. I understand the "not wanting it to sit around collecting dust". IMO, nothing is harder on a machine than not using it at all. Good Luck to you.

1 point1958 Wheel Horse Ride-Away Jr. RJ-58, s/n: 101916 Started with essentially just a rolling frame (first image below), and ended up here after !3 calendar months, a lot of parts searching, and a whole bunch of hard-won restore work. First shown at the 2010 Wheel Horse Show in Arendtsville, PA. This machine has been restored to 100% correct mechanical configuration. Shown with the RJ-58 is a fully restored and functional 1960 model CBR-32 - 32" Sickle Bar Mower. Enjoy!

1 pointThis is my early original 1958 RJ 58. This is my favorite tractor. The K90 runs flawless, It sat all winter and just the other day I pushed it out of the garage and she fired on the first pull. I had to take it for a good long cigar ride thru the trails in the woods after that.

1 pointHere is my 1958 Wheel Horse Model # RJ58 in original condition and has the rare Front Cutter Bar in working condition. This tractor was laying in a junk pile when I first spotted it. I talked to the owner and I asked him about the old WH that was out in the back 40. He said he didn't have any old Wheel Horses back there. So I said I can see one back there on the junk pile. He said by God you are right, there is one way out back. We walked back to look at it and he said he would have to have serious money for that old timer. I asked how much, and he said $75.00!! So I bought it right away! It didn't have the front cutter bar on it but it did have a mower deck. I added the cutter bar for tractor show duty. The little Kohler 4 hp runs like a top and will idle down very low, which is cool! Gotta love these little old ladies! Keith
