I think the best workbench design is the type that cleans itself off when the job is done!

Hey all well since the horses are hard to find or way to pricy over the pond the collection grows slowly... i came over this for sale for a good price to be here and you would say way to much!!!... it is a wheel horse 12auto.. This tractor has been sitting in a barn for almost 25 years the po have had it for 34 yrs..before that it was used by a sports club for lawn mowing they bought it new in 73 so after been sitting so long it needs a lot of work.. but it has a lot of really nice part's that is in really good cond... Not sure on what im going to do whit it yet.. The decals on the hood blew off when i washed it:( looks to be in good shape.. steering is nice and tight on it. all wheel holds air.. we only had to get air in one tire after the storage:O.. can still see the rubber studs on the rear tires and on the front tire:P Txh Lars

I picked up a 1964 Wheel Horse 604 tractor in Mt. Vernon , Illinois on Friday. Pretty complete other than the replacement 8 Speed transmission on it. Also bought an original snow plow for this model. Despite the decal -it is no diesel. Original motor, tires and lots of other interesting original parts.

Just added a dump cart to my collection today. They're rare as rocking horse poop over here in the UK so I had to pay rather a lot for it. Its in fair condition (rotted through in a few palces) so quite a lot of work to bring it back good again. You'll notice that the PO has modified the draw bar presumably having lost the original parts so I need a little help here as I've got to fab a new clevis bracket (part 22) I need to know what thickness of flat bar was used on these and how much offset i.e. the gap between this bracket and the main drawbar rail. The other puzzle to me is that only one bolt is shown - should there be a second bolt in the adjacent hole? Thanks in advance. Andy

Hello all, I thought I would finally get this old chain saw out and get it going (again) I've been meaning to do it for a while now... Anyway got round to doing it, did the thing I do best took it apart lol, had it all in pieces put it back together again, and it came back into life started second pull, don't you just love it when life's that easy, aha (takes two people to start it though) so I had this old tree stump up the back of the garden and i thought I'd give it ago, didn't even need to sharpen the Teeth on the chain they went through it like butter, I was amazed, even though its a two man job... Now for the sad part.... It's a shame I don't have a use for it, it would be nice to get It back into working everyday life, but sadly for now, she will just have to sit in the shed until I or someone else finds a use for it....

Great website. I bought a Raider 12 last week, my first Wheel Horse. I stumbled on it by accident while looking for a rear tine tiller. It came with a tiller, bottom plow, grader blade, 48" snow plow, mower deck and leaf vacumm and a bucket full of parts and pulleys for the implements. The guy bought it new in 71'. I am real happy with it. I turned over some miserable rocky unplanted ground last week and tilled it yesterday. The little machine is a bear. Since finding this website I can know what is what in the bucket for hooking up the other stuff. Thank You!

Today was the first time I put my refurbed 633 to work. The 633 has an 8 hp Kohler on it now. I cut over an acre of grass today and I must say it did a pretty good job. Not quite like pimpin on the 520 but more like kickin it old style. The grass was fairly high and the rear discharge deck clumped it up some so I actually mowed 2 acres of grass, it because I went over it twice. It took me about an hr and a half. With that said, I still only used a little over a half a tank, certainly much better on fuel than the 520 would take mowing the same yard once in about 40 minutes. I got the 633 from Charles (Cre1992) this past fall along with the Suburban on the trailer thru a trade. I guess you could say they have both come a long way!

Well, my son was away for 3 days on his duke of Edinburgh award and times a ticking to the first show... He already has a thread on the restore, but today has been one nightmare after another. We got the engine bolted down last week, today should have been as simple as starting it Trying to be organised and methodical I started on the carb. But before I could get to that I noticed this. The e clips had disappeared and been replaced with this! Ten minutes later it was a little more presentable. Next job to clean out the threads in the body where the air filter screws in... One was in a poor state, a run through with a 4 BA tap helped, being careful to make sure the ball for holding the choke open was put back in. A quick gasket was cut out and the air filter bolted on. The next two hours were a mixture of cursing and drinking gas! The fuel pump refused to draw any fuel or pump it into the carb. I stripped the pump and it was full of water and crud. I cleaned it out with petrol and blew it through with the airline. No matter how many times I cleaned and tested it out of the engine it would not pull fuel through. Sucking gas through helped, but it wouldn't run. Pressurising the tank didn't work either. Finally I blew fuel back through the filter and it fired into live. Hooking the pipe straight to the filter saw it run for 20 mins and get nice and warm. The governor linkages are really worn and it's hunting quite bad, but we can sort that later. The next pain was the exhaust... It looked like the right exhaust, but for some reason it sat 3 inches too low and fouled on the hood. A few hours of cutting and grinding and finally it fitted as it should. So what I thought was a quick job turned into an all day job :D

Doesn't hurt to have the tractor set and collect dust. You'll never have a family owned tractor like it again. My vote is to keep it. Things change - life changes. You might find yourself with time on your hands, maybe in retirement and just want to tinker with it. It's always a plus when you've got a family tractor for a hobby to keep going. Hang around here and you might find yourself glad you kept the tractor, but adding to the fleet. Good luck, Bill

I agree that one up top doesn't look the most comfy of rides I also found this,.. Not original from wheel horse just something someone's made up, got a few wheel horse stickers on it. And then this is some neat metal work, welding that horse onto that stack pipe.

It should come back. If you remove the center console between your legs there is a spring in there, some body will be along with pictures if you dont come up with it. basically all the pedal does is return the tractor to neutral. You may have to adjust the linkages or wore pieces on the slide plate on the trans., when you get the cover off it will make more sense to you. DO NOT turn your back on that tractor with it running, You may be chasing it or worse it may be chasing you.

As Ed posted, there is the post on some of the RS history. Yes, Chris (whchris) started whtractor. A short time later I began managing the forum, organizing, enhancing etc. The original forum whtractor is gone, but the data from that forum was mostly saved and recovered into a series of *new* forum attempts. The current RedSquare as you see today was founded, designed and built, by me utilizing the posts and members data extracted from the original whtractor (which has since been obliterated from the internet!) Technical ownership of the hosting contract, software licenses, skin fees / licenses, add-on component licenses, maintenance etc are owned by me, but financed by the Supporting Members of the community who are also responsible for the continuation of the bill paying around here. RedSquare is not hosted on any *free* sites, but on paid servers which we purchase a virtual environment from.

The 604 I had when I was a kid was a Tecky right from the dealer.. Are you sure that Kohler was original? That's the 2nd 604 I've seen on the internets with a diesel sticker on the hood. Wonder if it was the same one?

Lane/R looks like it is all there. Maybe an oil rub down and it will look good. Enjoy the project. Gary B.....

Hey thanks for all the help and the welcome. It ended up being in the hub....which in the midst of my "gotta get another lil red tractor fever", I didn't even look at them when I bought it. The right hub was all wallowed out....looks to me like the set screw came loose, hub was clear back against the tranny case, and the key bored out the hub! I'm glad the wheel didn't fall off while I was running it.

Well I may as well nominate my late production 1959 Wheel Horse Model # RJ59. This one was a lawn ornament when I found it. I drove by it on a country road and had to turn around to see if they wanted to sell it. I talked to the owner and he said it quit running the other day so he just pushed it out by the road. His wife wanted rid of the old girl, so I asked how much he'd take for it? He said his buddy was willing to give him $200 for it. I asked if he had any attachments for it and he said he had the original mower deck and a box of parts. He took me into his garage and pulled down a box of parts, right on top was the rare drive belt gaurd and the mower deck belt gaurd! He pointed to the mower deck laying off to the side. I asked if he'd take the $200 for it now? He said yes because his buddies wife said no to the purchase, go figure! I should have offered $150 for it but once he had the box of parts and deck, I figured it was well worth it! It had a Shnacke recoil on it but it didn't work, so I put on the Kohler one temporarily. I changed the points, cleaned the gas tank and line out and it fired right up on the first pull! This has a replacement engine and they reused the original oil pan, it is WH red still. It even mows pretty good but it is a little messy when the grass clippings start to fly all over the place!
