1 pointLast fall I came across this no name 14 8 speed. I tinkered with it fixing this and that....painted it with motor oil and wiped it down (as some guys do with older tractors I thought what the hey) and got it to this point. It came with a real nice 42 inch rear discharge deck that I traded Jdog for a side discharge. Another member now has the deck and I even sold him a couple spindle housings....funny how this stuff changes hands. I had some DD spindles I rebuilt and now the deck works really good. I have a 48 inch deck but it is a little big for my bumpy yard. It has a great running 14hp engine. Got the tractor, deck, and pushblade for 275.... Something else I got in a round about way....this trailer came with the wheelbarrow in the background and a de-thatcher. One of those little pull behinds. This trailer came from Ohio when Jdog and i were on a roadtrip a couple years ago. J sold it to a guy in Frederick who I just bought it back from.....deal for all three was 140 bucks. Well that's it for me.....4 is plenty to keep me busy....now I need to sell the monkey wards that I mowed with for 16 years....haha

1 pointYep, she should be a contender now! I don't think the hydro's have ever been good in the pulling competitions. Mike........

1 pointOrezona, A weak battery is almost certainly at least part of your problem. A reading of 11.7 volts indicates a battery that's only about 20% charged. I would check the water level in all cells, top up with distilled water, charge with your 2 amp charger for a half hour or so, let it stabilize for an hour or so, and then check the voltage again. If you're reading about 12.6 volts, you might be good to go, but do as some of the other guys have said here and check and clean as many connections as you can get to.

1 pointI have been working on the trike for about 6 weeks so as promised here is an update. After the pieces were returned from sand blasting it was obvious that after sitting outside for who knows how many years the main pieces have large areas of pitting. Normally I would use glazing putty for the small stuff and bondo for the larger but in this case it would take 4 tubes of glazing putty and then some. So I decided to take care of the worst areas and leave the remaining as is. Because of the condition of the metal automotive paint was out of the question since it would amplify all the flaws. I decided to go with Tractor Supply IH Red since I have half a gallon left over from another project. This left my budget with some money to add some frills I have been wanting to try for some time. When I was younger I restored/modified cars (God I wish I had that $$$ back) sooooo I thought why not add some custom stuff Under body neon lighting is neat so why not? I found a small kit with six lights that can product three colors Red, Green and Blue. I will set it for Red. Installation is best done before attaching the sub frame to the transmission. I decided to install the steering tower so I can finish my wiring without other parts getting in the way. I added a gauge cluster that has Volt Meter, Oil Pressure and Oil Temp. I found a motorcycle AM/FM Radio so what the heck might as well have some tunes. A few lighted toggle switches complete the package. When the wiring is complete I will Install the engine, add the dash so I can complete the wiring process. The trike is being built to pull our "Hauler" Since the umbrellas did not work well I am taking some time off this week to fabricate a "surry" top complete with fringe. Hopefully my idea for the frame works Thats it for now. Will post more later. Wildbro

1 pointUpdate on my progress. While I am sand blasting all the parts, I decided to take time today to open up the transmission. Now I was really curious as to how this thing would look after 52 years. Every transmission that I have opened has had water in it, and the accompanying rust and junk in the bottom makes for a gooey mess. But when I drained this right after I got it, nothing came out but oil. The previous owner said that he changed the oil frequently, and tried to keep it out of the weather as much as possible, but all things considered, you have to be a little curious as to how a transmission that is 52 years old and never been serviced can still look like this. After inspecting all the gears and bearings, and finding nothing in need of replacement, I am going to button this little beauty up and call it done.

1 pointI have almost the same thing but it is a vise grip chain wrench. Even bought the extension chain for it. I had to have it years ago. When removing the belt pulley on an Eagle Premier (the 2nd "unfixable car" that Chrysler had next to the Eagle Medallion (Renault) ). You had to put a heater hose over the chain so it wouldn't mar the pulley. The bolt was lock tighted on. You had to heat the bolt, have 1 guy hold the vise grip and then use a 3/4 drive breaker bar about 3 ft long to break the bolt loose.

1 pointRich, Sorry to take so long to answer, but after I soaked it in Berryman's Carburetor Cleaner it was gray. So I soaked it in my ultrasoninc cleaner in a mix of water and Simple Green. That didn't help much, so I took it to the shop and worked it with a 6" wire brush on the bench grinder. I was quite amazed at the finish I got.

1 pointWhy is is Called Spam? There is some debate about the source of the term, but the generally accepted version is that it comes from the Monty Python song, "Spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam, lovely spam, wonderful spam". Like the song, spam is an endless repetition of worthless text. Another school of thought maintains that it comes from the computer group lab at the University of Southern California who gave it the name because it has many of the same characteristics as the lunch meat Spam: Nobody wants it or ever asks for it. No one ever eats it; it is the first item to be pushed to the side when eating the entree. Sometimes it is actually tasty, like 1% of junk mail that is really useful to some people.

1 pointThe Toro "quality of cut manual" qocmanl.pdf for the 300-400-500 series mower decks (p4-19) says the front should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch lower than the rear. My 85 36-42-48 deck manual for 300 & 400 series says level the front to rear by placing tractor with fully inflated tires on level floor. Put height adjuster level in middle position and lower deck to floor on wheels. Place a level on top of deck facing direction of foot rests and level it ffront to back while it is lowered on roller wheels. Then back off the trunion adjustment nut one full turn to lower the front slightly.

1 pointI am putting new brakes and wheel bearings on the van tomorrow and if all goes well will be heading to Mentone Friday evening. Looks to be a bit cool in Indiana but no rain. Is there going to be a good attendance? I will be bringing some stuff also. checking into a motel right now. Can't wait to see the Coffee/Rock&Rye Mug.

1 pointUsually, inside the door frame it will list what tire size is reccomended, and what tire pressure should be. If you have the reccomended size, use the pressure reccomended!

1 pointIt just keeps getting better. Seat, light lens, more finishing of the sheet metal. It would be great to see what you could do with an unlimited budget.
