2 pointsKarl Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, your family and your current situation. It reminds me that life is a precious gift and one should enjoy every day of it. It got me to thinking about my wife and kids and how much I love them. It also got me to thinking about how I keep telling myself that next year I am going to go to the Big Show and meet many of my RedSquare friends. If I not this year then when? So Lola and I are going this year. Too many things can happen and next year is not guaranteed to any of us. Crossing one off my bucket list this June. I was so looking forward to meeting you in person this year but I totally understand. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Terry & Lola

1 pointFirst, thank you all for the kind thoughts and wishes. I am alive but have a long road to recover. Today I saw the plastic surgeon who will very soon be operating on my facial fractures. This will allow me to fully utilize my mouth which I am sure some don't want me to regain. I am beginning to hear out of my left ear, but still not great. My face is still paralyzed and I will hopefully see some specialists in the next couple of days. That's all for now, as I have an eye doctor appointment.

1 pointLast fall I came across this no name 14 8 speed. I tinkered with it fixing this and that....painted it with motor oil and wiped it down (as some guys do with older tractors I thought what the hey) and got it to this point. It came with a real nice 42 inch rear discharge deck that I traded Jdog for a side discharge. Another member now has the deck and I even sold him a couple spindle housings....funny how this stuff changes hands. I had some DD spindles I rebuilt and now the deck works really good. I have a 48 inch deck but it is a little big for my bumpy yard. It has a great running 14hp engine. Got the tractor, deck, and pushblade for 275.... Something else I got in a round about way....this trailer came with the wheelbarrow in the background and a de-thatcher. One of those little pull behinds. This trailer came from Ohio when Jdog and i were on a roadtrip a couple years ago. J sold it to a guy in Frederick who I just bought it back from.....deal for all three was 140 bucks. Well that's it for me.....4 is plenty to keep me busy....now I need to sell the monkey wards that I mowed with for 16 years....haha

1 pointI'm happy with 23s. If you ever need to use chains you'll still have clearance.

1 pointBeing a 8hp tractor a pair of 23x10.50 would look nice. Here is my 857 with 23x10.50 on john deere rims.

1 pointDo you mean ugliest tractor or owner. I'd win either way!

1 pointBack to work full time now, still doing PT twice a week, a bit tender at the end of work day though. Thanks for checking on me...plan to see you there too, good lord willing...and the creek don't rise.

1 pointI guess the right tool for the job holds true. The Cobalt bit went right through the case hardened allen screw.

1 pointThanks Glen, I'd spotted that there were different spindles from the Toro site but having double checked mine today to be sure, the 316 has stronger spindles than say the 200 series. I think the reason for the two different spindles is actually tire size. The 316 had the small tires and having changed mine for the larger tires to cope with ruts better, the tractor is visibly up at the front so I'm guessing that longer spindles were used for the small tires, shorter for the larger tires to keep the tractor level. (Just a guess) Thanks Eric for your observations about the 416. I'd had a look at some 416 pics and also noticed that some seem to have been fitted with the smaller tires all of which makes the definitive differences between the two models (apart from transmission and rear hubs in 1989 only) a little unclear. It also has me thinking that maybe the 316 was essentially the Euro model. I'll get some photos of the 316 to add to the gallery - for now this is about the only one I have. Forgot to say that the 316 model in Europe had a smiley face. I did work out one other difference that applies to the '89 316 but not the 1990 model - the '89 model has a different engine spec and that relates to it being an Onan with no oil filter (as I discovered when attempting to change it). Out of interest has anyone got a price list showing how much more you had to pay for the 316 vs 416? Andy

1 pointI have been here looking at ID postings for 518's, The one I have is a 31180E1. All I have found have a E01 at the end of the ID number. Is there a difference in the models? I picked up this tractor last year for a steal, it needs a lot of cosmetic work but runs really well. It shows 750hr's on the tractor. I am looking at making this a project. Would like to know exactly what it is. I appreciate any time one may offer on an answer with this..Regards Walt "Portage Indiana"

1 point1958 Wheel Horse Ride-Away Jr. RJ-58, s/n: 101916 Started with essentially just a rolling frame (first image below), and ended up here after !3 calendar months, a lot of parts searching, and a whole bunch of hard-won restore work. First shown at the 2010 Wheel Horse Show in Arendtsville, PA. This machine has been restored to 100% correct mechanical configuration. Shown with the RJ-58 is a fully restored and functional 1960 model CBR-32 - 32" Sickle Bar Mower. Enjoy!

1 pointI find it highly unlikely an average person could melt down 85lbs of iron and pour it into a mold and make this. But even if it is not a true wheelhorse factory part it is still a one off which is very cool and if it turns out to be a true part then it will still be a one off that noone knew existed either way its a win in my book

1 pointI kind of like that hood weight! If you did use it as the nose, try to find a really clean way to attach it so it looks like the hood and not 2 pieces. Maybe add a flange on the top sheetmetal piece that can use machine screws on the underside to screw into the weight. No bolts showing and just a small seam like the factory had from welding the 2 pieces of sheetmetal together for the original RJ hood. Use what you have until you find a savable original RJ hood.

1 pointIt's funny you say that those things were 2 of my questions cus I couldn't seem to find any definitive answers on those. Thanks for that. Im gonna change those things . does the clutch pully go on top of the belt?
-
1 pointLooking very nice! Not trying to criticize here( you may have them on like that for a reason?) your seat spring should be flipped around IF you are trying to be original with it. Also, your belt is not routed the way it would have came from the factory. (again I am not trying to criticize as you may have this for a reason, just thought I would let you know if You were trying to keep it 100% correct) ~Jake
