Well i thought the D had finally met its match, but there was no way i was shoveling my 400 foot long driveway so i managed to get the horse out of the stall to see what happened. Please dont tell it i doubted it cause believe it or not we are making progress! still not to the end of the driveway, had to come in to warm up, but i think we will make it. This thing never fails to amaze me, although i do wish my snow blower was working, think with this much snow it would be more efficient then the plow! Snow is finally starting to let up a bit, but has not stopped.

Poor plow. Had it running but it sputtered out. Figuring it is pretty wet. Jim

Been lurking here for a while. Here's a quick video of my 416-8 throwing about 6-8 inches of snow this morning. I went out yesterday at 8pm, 12:30am and again at 9am.... We probably had a little over 2 feet.

I think I got jipped, I only got 20 inches, The snow at the end of my driveway was up to the hood though, The 520 busted right thru it. I took a video and If I can figure out how to upload it to utube I'll post it.

It's my turn to stop asking questions and make a real contribution to this awesome forum! Brought my first horse home three weeks ago (beautiful '92 312-8) and haven't REALLY had a chance to use it. So when this storm started to brew up earlier this week I was pumped to put the horse to the test for the first time. I decided to set up my camera and tri-pod and catch the action for all you guys by making a timelapse video. I hope you enjoy it! Round two of blowing coming up in a few hours....the real snow is just starting to fall Click on the black box and it will bring you to my website where the video (should) start to play automatically.

Finally shook on a deal for this Big Boys tractor (No offense to my Lawn Ranger) $700 for it and the tiller, plow, disc and blade. Will need a tank and who knows what else. But I am extremely happy to be getting it. I will be picking it up after tax season. Probably wont get to powder coat till next winter anyway but I am hoping a new tank and a tune up will have it mowing this summer. My name is Vinylguy and I am a Horse-a-Holic. :ROTF:

Figure every one like pics! Here are my "WEENIE PICS!" Since I didn't get as much I'm officially a WEENIE! :) This is what I woke up to: Officially 9" at the "Airport" I measured the ground but forgot to take the pic. Hard to get action shots when you're steering and running the hyrdo! Tall chute really blows! Took off the blower when done and switched to the blade. The infamous "Sno-Pup! Sure is handy around the trailer and garden. Cleaned this area with it.Even got an action shot which is real tricky. Running 2 cycle racing fuel thru the Tecky. Smells like your burning NITRO!!!! :) Broke out the electric "Chief" for our skinny walk between our front porch and flower bed. Anything bigger really tears things up. This blower never fails to start! Even Elvis got in on the action cleaning up what the state left me.

A friendly word of advice for when you attempt to get this running..... Remove the drive belt - or at least jack it up and block it so the rear tires are off the floor. The early hydros have the uncanny ability to take off when ever they desire, and I'd hate to find out that you got ran over by your own tractor or that you had to chase it for three blocks. Once it's moving under it's own power, never let it running unattended unless you have it securely blocked/chocked to prevent movement. Do not trust it! Edit: If it still has an ID tag, it will be here:

Heres this mornings pics. The Wheel Horse didn't (couldn't actually ) leave the garage for cleanup untill my Gilson had cleared the driveway first. Spent 5 hours clearing this mess with my son out with me the whole time. I should have cleared the driveway last night and not "saved all the fun" for today . My son's Nissan Altima is under that pile of snow in the last pic!! Mike...............

Unbelievable comments! So what do you see when you view 50 to 100 miles of glacier ice that both North and South Pole explorers from the 1700's to the early 1900's traversed that doesn't exist today. Where thousands of miles of polar ice is simply gone and time lapse photography shows, just in decades, the retreat of polar ice. I guess these scientists are just full of crap. After all, just like "expert witnesses" in jury trials, you can get someone with enough grant money from the right side of the issue to discount what the left side is saying! Are there people cashing in on the hype? Yes! Absolutely! Can we change or reverse the effects? Nope! Not overnight. Not in 10 or 20 years. It took centuries of burning fossil fuels for heating and transportation to create this cycle of warmth. And a billion + Chinese just starting their industrial revolution will keep it going. Cutting grooves in a cyl head for a few more MPG's? I guess it will have to be on MS-NBC for the left to believe it and Fox news for anyone on the right to believe it. Me! I'll believe or disbelieve any issue or event after I look at the devil in the details and not what is spoon fed to me by a talking head in two minutes or less or documentaries produced with grant money from each extreme. It seems no one sits in the middle with common sense open-mindedness anymore. The US is like a battery. Polarized!

There are 3 parts to the kit needed to install a blade on a 520 with the swept axle, the rear extention mount, the center lift relocation mount, and the handle that is bent backwards to clear the PTO when angling the blade, as for the 3 and 5 hole index, I'm pretty sure a few years ago I looked and you can NOT drill the extra holes to make a 3 hole a 5 hole if you do it will leave very little material in between the holes, I know my 5 hole index in the last hole sets the blade on a tighter angle than my 3 hole index.

I'm posting this one for my son Ryan, this is his 1974 B-100 auto, we fixed this up for him a few years ago, it has a 8hp instead of the orig. 10hp that was blown up, but he is bugging me to put a 10hp back in it, this started as a $25 beater, this was not a full resto, but was 95% torn apart blasted and painted, he drives the snot out of it in the summer at all the local tractor shows, and does very well with it in the tractor games. What we started with And what it ended up as Winning his first trophy, he has won a few since then, he polishes and cleans it for every show in hopes of winning again.

Alrighty...I'm game. Here's my 753 and single stage thrower. It's about 6inches of heavy stuff moving thru the chute. I rebuilt the thrower right before last winter, and it didn't snow last year. :*****: The first one is a video, the second is a picture. Seems to do pretty well. This is used just for clearing a path from my wood pile to my living room. I use my an 854 for the driveway, etc.

A few months ago I rescued my buddy's WH for $200 that had been sitting in a barn for a few years. It has a newer HM80 that seems to run great. So this winter I'm doing a restore; so far I derusted the front wheels and added some try-ribs. Last week I sprayed the black engine pieces with some Valspar IH red.

Yeaup, we had snow in Louisiana........afew years back, 2010 in far NE La. As rare as WH is down here didn't find one cotten pickin' track. Next time I'm puttin' out hey, hey it's over here and maybe I'll catch a bigun. It was so cold the roadway shivered off all the snow.Seriously once years back, 1983 the Red River froze over, and gossip states it was a once in 100 yr, (1895) occurrence, even though only 88 passed. Guess what...no pictures of that historical event.

AMAZING! Officially, we ended up with 31.4" in Stafford, CT. I'm pushing 60 and have lived in CT most of my life (3 years in NH; 3 in NY) and I have not seen this much snow in one storm - EVER. My driveway is 300' long and 40' of it is on a 45 degree incline towards the top of the driveway with a double wide turnaround. I'm driving a 265H with a Single-stage blower on it. I went out last night around 5 and took off about 5" or so. Went out again around 9 pm and took another 6" off. I spent about 1/2 hour working on the end of the driveway where the town plow came through and by the time I got back to the top, there was another 3" on the ground and the winds were really picking up!! At one point, 6" fell within ONE hour!! The most amazing storm I've experienced. Even the Blizzard of '78 paled in my opinion. The conditions were brutal. I only had the headlights from the tractor and our driveway flood lights were useless because of the intensity of the storm. Between the blow back from the machine and the 40 mph gusts, it was a bit scary I've gotta admit. I couldn't see a thing at times and kept thinking "What if....". What if a branch falls from one of the many OLD trees that line the drive (they often do during wind storms). What if I get stuck and how the hell will I get the machine out. What if I run into something because I can't see a freakin' thing! We live in a rural town so there aren't any street lights either, so it was essentially pitch black. I packed it in around 10:30, for the night. It was getting ridiculous. I couldn't keep up with the amount that was coming down. I woke up this morning and went out at around 9 and it was still snowing at a very good clip. There was close to 20" on the ground and I went to work while mother nature added a few more inches. I was totally amazed by the strength of this machine. Eating up the snow and spitting it out without ONE clog. I began to get concerned when my reverse gear wasn't working properly until I realized ice had formed under the pedal and prevented it from being depressed all the way!! Chipped it away and was back in business. It was much more FUN today because despite the cold temps and blowing snow and despite the blow back, it was LIGHT OUT! Once I got the driveway done, I had to attack the cars which simply meant I had to take the snow off the cars and put it back on the driveway!! Anyway, you can imagine the amount of time it took to clean everything up. Here's a pic before I cleaned the cars. The 265H sits proudly in the background waiting to gobble up the snow from the cars. The cab is homemade but let me tell you - It may look like *&$@ but I don't know what I would have looked (and felt) like if I DIDN'T have it. It finally stopped snowing at around 11-12 o'clock. I was back in the house around 3pm - exhausted. All in all, things could have been a lot worse. We never lost power - although the generator was hooked up and ready to go!! That's my Horse experience with the Blizzard of 2013 in CT!! An amazing machine - even though it has some Toro blood in it!! The C-175 sits in the shed with the plow on it. This was NO job for her.

Hey Folks, From the time I blew the driveway off yesterday afternoon to this morning only about 3" of new snow fell, so I decided not to do another time lapse of blowing the driveway. So I set it up as I did the other snow removal part of a storm which is roof raking. I'm seeing some of the images from down in Massachusetts and Maine and even though it looks pretty rough I'm kinda wishing we had some of that Armageddon snow up here in Vermont to play with. I have the whole day free and wouldn't have minded the challenge! If you click on the black box it should bring you to my website where the time lapse should automatically start to play.

We didn't have lawn chairs at Paris Island(?). I'd like to be in one now that the drive is plowed, salted, frozen solid. The sun is shining so we can see the drifting from all this sub-zero wind chill. Bah...humbug. :-)

I bought a Direct Lift Pro-cycle/atv lift 2 years ago- its the best shop investment I have ever made. Its rated at 1,000lbs lift but it will do more -I've done an easy 1200lbs with it. Under no circumstances will I ever work on another tractor on the ground again. The cost is worth the bodily pain saved in the knees and back. The Pro-cycle gets the added wings to make the table 4ft wide so its perfect for my 4x4 builds. You can see the removeable ramp in the first pic- its off in the other build pics. Its easily removed so you can get up close to work on the ends. The walker hanging up in the top corner in last pic is what I will use from not buying this lift sooner !

There is no doubt in my mind that global warming is happening, Did we cause it ? maybe helped it along some. But we have deserts and forest where oceans and seas once where in ancient history. This earth has always underwent climate change and a constant shift on its axis. Animals and creatures have been going extinct since the first one crawled out of the mud or was created. (dont particulary want to start that argument) Some adapt to change and some were not created to be able to. Do we as TEMPORARY custodials of this big blue ball need to change our ways so its here for generations to come,Yes, But will you give up YOUR air conditioner or indepence on a personal luxury vehicle of your choosing or possibly one for every member of your family if financialy possible. If your like 99% of the rest of us probably not. So the ball keeps turning and life goes on. (FOR NOW).

Let's see some video's of moving the white stuff now that we're starting to get some. I loaned my C-121 with blower to my bud Jon after he fried the trans in his plow truck and broke the front axle in his backup truck. So now we are left with P'Chop's Ranger to take care of our drive. We got 6" today and it's snowing to beat hell right now. Here's a vid of the C clearing at Jon's tonight. I think he wants to claim it now! :banghead:

As Van said, before you hook up the line to the inlet side of the pump, bleed all the air out of the line - make sure you have a good flow of fuel at the front of the tractor before you hook it up. Sometimes the pump wont work until the line is primed right up to the inlet.

I have never seen the blade pivot thingy with the 5 holes, so I might be completely wrong here, but I seem to remember reading or hearing that you couldnt just drill another pair of holes to achieve the same thing. Something about the spacing being off, and to do it you needed to weld the existing holes and redrill. :scratchead:

This was one of the many versions of my "RAT" Gasser and the incarnation I should have left alone IMO... this version went to the 2011 Wheel Horse Show and played its part well. Made up of a 60 Suburban front end, Early RJ58 tranny, high Rat Rod shifter, White header dump, Blue Clone Power and the evil "666" on the hood...

Go to NAPA and get part number 7-08011 ( fits the magnum 10hp ) This is the direct replacement fuel pump. I paid $38.50 for mine about two or three weeks ago. Before you connect the fuel hoses to it, install a new in line fuel filter. Splice the fuel filter in the fuel line behind the engine in the open space between the engine and the steering shaft. Then fill the tank with gas and make sure fuel flows freely from the end of the hose that connects to the inlet side of your new fuel pump. If the gas flows free then all is well there. Install a new fuel line between the pump and the carb. Start the engine and report back here.

I too suffer from a worn out back, so on my longer term projects I need something to lift them up a little. These small wooden stands are the ones that get used the most: Years ago I built this to work on the RJ58 I used to have. It worked great for that, but it's not so stable with a bigger tractor on it. And one day I am going to do this:

This is probably the slowest progress thread you guys have ever seen! I'm pretty happy with the dash. I found a plug and also picked up some SS screws. Now I just need to get some choke and throttle cables - I think I'm going to try the Toro ones. Is this steering wheel decal original? The one I received in my decal kit is different. We has a 55 degree day yesterday and luckily I had a day off. I power washed off the grease and dirt then washed it all with Dawn. I sanded down the fish eyes on the hood and my buddy re-shot it again for me along with spraying the belt guard too. He just called and said everything turned out great. Next week I'll have another buddy that does auto decals and pinstripes do my hood decals. Now my attention will be directed towards the rear fenders and getting the Techie ready and all new belts.

I'm certainly no expert in bearings but even where the markings on a standard bearing aren't readable or are missing then bearing stockists measure the critical dimensions ID, OD and depth, whether it has a flange or not and in this case (I think) the fact that it is a thrust bearing. If you look at the temporary factory work around diags, even with a ball bearing that was available at the time, a washer had to be added to take the thrust forces so I'm guessing the bearing they used would have collapsed without this. Costs may certainly prove to be the death of this investigation but it's worth persuing none the less as there are other obsolete and pretty much unobtainable bearings e.g. front wheel bearings for a D series. The issue is that WH used some bearings in their designs that were non-standard, a practice also evident in the automobile and motorcycle manufacturing industry leaving you no option but to buy replacement parts from them. We need to see this through to a conclusion either way. Andy

I work for a town here in Ct. where 18"-30" is predicted. I'll be in a John Deere tractor from Friday 7 am till Saturday afternoon. I'll start with a plow but when it gets heavy, I'll switch out to the snowblower attachment. .JD attachments don't change as quick as a Wheel Horse does but the cab is heated! When I get home Saturday, I'll have to clear my 500 ft. driveway so I put my 5 ft. 3-point hitch snowblower on my Ford tractor tonight so I can get it done quick and go to sleep after. I can't wait to retire and be able to clear my driveway at my leisure.

Value is always circumstantial at best. First, everyone who's uninformed in vintage garden tractors gets their valuation knowledge from ebay. They pay no attention to the rarity of a tractor, location, true condition, etc..... They have no basis of understanding on the collector market in a given area. They just latch on to the highest value they see and say that must be what it's worth, also ignoring the most relevant piece of information... whether or not it actually sells at that price. But when you come down to it, I also think unless a tractor has been purchased at a low-ball price strictly for resale, its hard to sell a refurbished or restored tractor for anything close to what's been put into it for cost, let alone at a profit. You have to remember, we're talking about 20, 30, 40 even 50+ year old TOOLS. Tools that have been used, abused and often left for dead. Just because it's got wheels doesn't make it comparable to a collectible auto. Think of it more like a collectible chicken coop shovel. It's collector value is only relevant to a narrow collector market. For the majority of buyers looking for an old garden tractor, they're looking for a tool to play with in their yard, that's in less-than-abused shape, that they can pick up for a few to several hundred dollars. If they know the value and reputation of Wheel Horse, they're probably the ones looking in the $1k-1500 range for later models and higher HP, but also could be the one's who don't want to spend that $1k-1500 on a big box store mower when they know an old garden tractor and deck for $300 will probably last longer. It takes all kinds to make the world go around. Just enjoy your seat on the carousel.
