2 pointsI agree with you here Bill. I think keeping these old horses alive and working is doing the right thing. I had dinner with two of my oldest guy friends this past Saturday night. They were yanking my chain about my Wheel Horses. They say you are suppose to buy a riding mower, run it till the wheels come off then drag it out in the woods and get another one. I tell them they are lazy, they need some testosterone therapy, and they need to man up and put a wrench in their hands like a real man so they will get some respect at home. Then I tell them they are poor excuses for males, and they should be made Eunuchs. Well, after giving them the old what for, we had another beer and went home. So next Spring and Summer when they are hating life behind the wheel of their BoxStore GreenMachines, I'll be grinning from ear to ear cutting grass with the Iron Horses !

1 pointyes this is me as a kid on our Ariens mower circa early 70's. We moved up from NJ to CT and after using the Ariens on over a acre of grass, my Dad bought the 1977 B-80 and now I have it! not sure if Dad traded in the mower but it looked real clean.

1 pointI got a call from a former wheel horse dealer about some wheel horse tractors and advertising so I made a little road trip today to check it out I didn't take the trailer since it needs some welding but I will get it repaired and pick up the tractors, what I did get was a sign that hung in his shop, he claims that when he quit selling wheel horse that he boxed up a lot of wheel horse stuff and packed it away...manuals, advertising signs, decals, etc. I will be heading back with cash and a trailer I told him I would take everything wheel horse as long as the price is right, the price on the sign today was FREE!! I offered cash but he wouldn't take it, it's not perfect but will still look good in the shop I am hoping for a lighted sign like the one I just picked up

1 pointI have been kind of laid back the past few years on buying Wheelhorses. I have settled into what I really like: currently posses: 520-8 96' 314-H two C-161-8 .....and several attachments to go along with these tractors. I have been on the look out for a newer 60" deck for about 2 years. And for whatever reason I have not found one, nice enough, close enough, or at the right price. I had a 3 day work trip to Indianapolis last week. While sitting in the hotel room on Tuesday night surfing craigslist I stumbled onto what I thought was a typo. 1996 520-H with 680 hours, 60" deck, 36" tiller, 48" dozer blade with 520 completing kit for $700. The challenge at the time was that it was located in WV, about 7.5 hours from where I was. Unlike ebay where you can "buy it now", I figured someone would pounce on this deal, so I decided to go to bed. Two days later I left Indy at 12:30pm, and I decided to call and see if anyone had bought the tractor. He mentioned that someone was supposed to pick it up tonight, but he couldn't get it started. I told him that I would be interested in it, running or not, since my main reason was to get the mower deck. I told him to keep my phone number and if the person didn't want it I would come and get it. About 2 hours later he called back and said the guy didn't want since he couldn't get it running today. He had bought an new Onan ignition control and still couldn't get it to start. I told him I was still interested in it and he said he would sell everything for $500, I never suggested a lower price he just offered. I told him I would come and get it tonight if that was okay with him. (Too many times I have let ones like this get away when someone else swoops in and buys it before you get there). I told him that I wanted it and I would be there at 9pm to pick it up (4 hour one way drive). I got there at 9 and picked it up. He told me that 3 people had called that evening wanting to buy it before I got there!! Everything was a little sun faded but in pretty decent shape. Got it all home at 2:15 am and realized I had drove about 11 hours that day.....I was beat!!! The cool thing is it had all of the necessary parts for operation of the attachments. So many time you get a tractor and certain parts are missing.....but the rear lift assembly, idler pulleys for the tiller and belts were all there. Not sure what I am going to do with the 520 yet as I have yet to work on getting the motor running, but at least it won't matter since I got it at a steal to begin with. Thad (Ohio)

1 pointNowadays, I can get by with only chains on the Horse when plowing (pushin' snow). I'm a little allergic to calling snow pushin' "plowing." I plow every 4-6 inches, then back to coffee and crumb cake gettin' ready for the next "plow." When my teenage boys lived at home, I chained them to the Stallions! No visiting friends until Dad's drives are clear, walks shoveled, gutters cleaned out, dogs fed and manicured. Mom's kitchen clean, your (boys) rooms cleaned, homework done, no BBS (Bulletin Board Service) homework swaps.......or else! Oh yeah! Put all the tools away too! Neighbor tells me, quietly, "Your boys race up and down the road on your Wheel Horses when you're not home. Just thought you should know." Like duh! Boys 'n Horses? 'Course they wanna ride 'em cowboy!

1 pointI can see that I will have to pay more attention to ALL of the threads on Red Square. Where did you find my bong at?? I miss that one a bunch. BTW...I hate remote controls.
-
1 pointOK so drove the car, not buying, just lookin'. Right? Stallion looks great, ready for some lovin', a rub down, cleaning. OK so we just visiting an old friend. Right? Spill your guts! Why did you take a bag of apples for your neighborly visit? You weren't buyin'. Right? Did you tell Mom, "The old Stallion followed me home! He loves me, I was nice!" WHA (Wheel Horse Addiction) made you stretch the truth? Right! I'm addin' your MOS to my list of "stories", now giddy-up Horsey. :-)

1 pointYa got an 8 speed so you don't have too many problems to worry about, Hydro's have a few more issues. For the most part they are a 300/400 series but have a much stronger hood stand and upper steering wheel mount. In my opinion these were the best tractors they ever made! good looks - check simple - check big enough even for big guys(like me) to not rub their belly on the steering wheel - check no complicated electronics - check tough as hell - check limited turning radius so it feels like a bigger tractor - check red and black - check good headlights - check Kohler engine - check Loud enough to make the neighbors MTD tremble in fear - check looks mean and nasty - double check :handgestures-thumbupright: :handgestures-thumbupright: :handgestures-thumbupright: I do like the look of the plastic fenders but finally took mine off in favor of steel for durability

1 pointNeed 'em like a hole in the head but, they're my buddies. Recently gave up a Commando 800 to a youngster, had a plow on the 800, the kid is prayin' for snow. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Semi-retired nowadays, need a few Horses to play with. The '73 "No Name" is sportin' chrome baby moons. Some old (older than I) gentleman had them in a shed. Gave 'em to me for $0.00 delivered. Great guy!

1 pointI downloaded the calendar this afternoon and was so impressed with the pictures I had to create a banner for my shop. You can not imagine how many of my customers who come in the shop ask what a Wheel Horse is. Now I can show them what all the decals go on to bring these American Icons back to life. Problem is it is a big banner. 2 1/2 ft x 5 ft and I am running out of room to display it. But I will find a wall. LOL Great job on the calendar :bow-blue:
