    Here is a project that I am working on. I know that it is not a Wheel Horse, but I thought that it was just too cool to get thrown away. It is a Craftsman FF20 that was made around 1983 and was supposed to compete with the John Deere 400. It has a 20 hp Onan engine, an Eaton 1100 hydrostatic transmission, and a two-speed Peerless rear end. The rear tires are 26x12x12 and the front tires are 18x8.5x8. Here are some begining photos: Here are some photos of where I am at so far: I am trying to find two of the parts that were missing when I started. They include the plastic side cover for the engine and the perforated steel grill. I am hoping that someone on here either has one that they would be willing to part with these pieces or know of someone that would. Please send me a message if you can help.     My father passed away on Oct 30th 2012 after a long battle with kidney and heart disease he was 81,dad was the first to collect the Wheel Horse tractors and passed it on to my wife and I and our two sons to this wonderful hobby.Dad and my mom really enjoyed driving around at the shows looking for treasures and sharing time with our friends and family. As you can see from the photo that they really enjoyed themselves,dad's tractor is now in my collection and will be at every show that we attend in memory of him,he will be truly missed...

    It's a 308-8, smokes a little when you start it but clears up very quickly. Only used on the tiller for the last ten years.

    Bet the wife wont ask me to help decorate the tree again!!! But after it was all done she kinda likes it. I wanted to hang some parts on it too, but that was out of the question.

    OK...you guys win...I've decided to keep both them...I'm going to use the B-80 as a dedicated mower/trailer puller and use the C-100 as my plow machine...Here's the "family" picture.. The B-80 is a 74...The C-100 is a 75

    My one and only Wheel Horse was purchased new in 1978 by my father. He had just retired and treated himself to a brand new D-200 w/mower deck, belly grader blade and 48" snow thrower. What a beast. I got it in 2009 when my brother, who inherited the old homestead, didn't want it (he had just purchased a JD 2305 for his property). I took the old D and revamped it and got it running. It's my main defense against heavy snows (the snow thrower works great) in the winter. My main interest in old small tractors stems from a 1952 Tiger 883 that dad bought in 1956. I now have that one, and a second Tiger 883. Both are in good shape and both run fine. They're just a little difficult to actually 'use' around the house. They're hard to drive, no brakes, etc. They're for show only. My regular lawn maintance tractor is a 2006 JD 155C. It mows, hauls and snow plows (up to about 6 or 8" deep). But the old D is the beast of the group. When digging into deep snow it draws a crowd in the neighborhood. The kids like to run through the 'rooster tail' of thrown snow and the adults just stand there, with their coffee or beer, and appreciate that I'm clearing their drive for them. It's a hoot!     Well after experiencing the devastation of hurricane Sandy first hand, many of the people around me including myself were left without power, heat, phone, or internet for over a week. As well as food, gas shortages, and looting problems. However I was much more fortunate than others in my area, we had no downed trees probably because I spent a week during the summer on a JLG man lift cutting and trimming the big oak trees that surround my house. I shared a Generac 7000w generator with my Aunt and Uncle as they live next door and we ran both houses on it. As the days progressed with a gas and generator shortage people around us began stealing. Three generators were stolen a half mile up the street from me. Our was chained to posts in our pole barn, as well as put in a locked shed with a front end loader parked in front of it. A generator up the street from me was chained to a tree, and later stolen when someone cut down the tree to steal the generator. So I decided it was time to take action and begin prepping for whatever other power outage is to come my way. So I decided it was time to get a nice generator that could power my whole house as well being efficient, reliable and the ability to use multiple fuels. So I bought 2 nice kohler generators. A Kohler 7.5C62 that translates to a 7500w 4 cylinder 1800 rpm generator that has an air compressor and heater on it that is made to run 24/7. Shes in a nice steel tube frame and 6 feet long and 2.5 feet wide. We used a 2 ton hoist to get it into the bed of my truck. The pictures are not the best because I picked it up in Virginia on the way home from North Carolina where I spent Thanksgiving. It is set up for gas at the moment but if I buy a regulator and take a plug out of the carb I can run it on natural gas and propane. A so called portable 5000w Kohler Power Pro generator with a K301 engine it is heavy! Yes it is only pull start but starts first pull, and is not that bad to pull. So the damage?     Helping the economy on Small Business Saturday and finally able to convince my wife with the cost of fuel these days, I bought a log splitter today. Partial to the Midwest (plus USA made) and having had good luck with my Ariens snow blower, I was looking at the Ariens version due to design. What I bought at my local M-F tractor dealer was a RED Gravely 27 Ton version. Believe me - it is red! Gravely has standard the cradle and table which are must-haves in my opinion. I worked it about three hours today and so far so good. It is a nice medium-priced unit with plenty of power. I do like the Subaru Robin engine as it is quieter than the B&S Intek and uses a chain for the OHC as opposed to a belt on the Honda GC. Two choices of tow vehicles that both display Wheel Horse. On my C-105 I'm using Scott Moreau's hitch that I got last year which works great! It's also Stormy Kromer weather again!

    I too used the sleeve hitch for a cultivator and mold board plow. Neighbors were amazed at the little Horse's ability to plow. So was I! That was 30-40 years ago. The plow I took from a multi plow set, bent (Pacific Hydraulic Brake (250 ton) a piece of thick SS flatbar to fit into the sleeve hitch. Welded the flatbar to the plow arm (or whatever it's called). Using the thick flatbar, I didn't have any wiggle in the sleeve. The flatbar was thick, if I remember correctly, thinking I machined the part of the flatbar that went into the sleeve. Was havin' a lot of fun. Lot of shoppin' at Northern Hydraulics too. Never had to remove the hitch pin except on occasion to grease it. Luckily I have a few "C" clips, spares in my tool box. The tow hitch does extend out further than the sleeve hitch. Both can be left on for whatever purpose; ground engaging or towing a trailer or sweeper. My old horse (whatever, that was long ago), had the same setup, rear discharge deck and sweeper. Drop off the sweeper and pickup the mold board plow or cultivator. I made a front bumper for suitcase weights to keep the nose down when plowing.

    I'm too old, forgetful. I have Never-Seez®, going to use some after paint dries on the tow hitch before reassembly. Thanks for the reminder!

    I'd buy a new seat cover, just be sure to take the seat pan with you when you pick one out so you get the right one, they make a bunch that are close.

    I am going to make a video on how to time coils and the camshaft to the crank... Easy to do once you do a few... sounds like improper ignition timing or possibly improper valve timing had and 8hp do the same... ( Improper Ignition timing and cam timing was off 1 tooth) fixed that is started right up...

    Update.... that large white cloth like object you saw going flying by was a Towel... thats right, I surrender, give up, roll over, all of the above. I am out of my comfort zone screwing with the timing/coil on a Tecumseh. Some may think that makes me a coward... thats fine too. Between all of the headache pills, coffee, time and parts I am done.... It has been dropped off at a dealer friend and i will update with what he comes up with as the ultimate solution. Meanwhile I am going to go out and hug one of my Kohlers and salute one of my Briggs both of which never fail to start and get the job done. Tony

    I'd offer $100 and see where it gets you. It's definitely worth more in pieces than it is whole, but that's not how a species is preserved. :disgust:

    Van, Thanks for your info. I will try Monday... First Tighten head bolts then... 1) Check to see what the old points are presently set at with a feeler gage 2) Replace with new points, set at .015 3) Run and see it noise has gone away/reduced 4) Reset points to .020 4) Run and see if noise has gone away/reduced

    Thank You Duke. I have to be honest. I was on the edge of my chair this whole game. Michigan played their hearts out, and there is no shame in that. Congratulations to the Wolverines on a great season and best of luck in whatever bowl game you play in. I will always root for the Big Ten in any bowl game no matter what team it is. I have always heard that when Ohio State beats Michigan, a lot of fans defect to the Buckeyes. I now believe this is true. I was looking around on Google Earth just now and found this..... . . . . A little Buckeye Boogaloo! . . :dance:

    Tom, it would have been alot less work for you to have reset the point gap to see if the noise would lessen. Most troubleshooting is performed easier using the old divide and conquer method. Resetting the point gap may have not sounded like the way to begin, but doing this retards the ignition timing, which takes alot of stress off extra clearances in the rod, crank, piston, and wristpin during rotation. Less stress equals less noise. So if you retard the timing and the noise lessens or goes away, then you know the problem is in the crank, rod, piston, wrist pin area without disassembling the engine. It may then be in the balance gears, but you will then know where it is not. This is a community, and I'm not trying to sound like a Kohler engine Guru ( I am certainly not that ). I'm just trying to help you and the other members here learn some of the skills I have aquired along the way in an effort to take alot of unnecessary work out of what we do in our spare time here.     Finally managed to get a bit more done on the Horse. I have manufactured a new deck stand centre section to replace the badly corroded one. New seals were fit in the transmition and everything bottomed, primed and given a nice coat of shiny red paint. A few items have been replaced on the chassis ready for the deck stand to be painted and mounted. So a little progress has been made. On another note I went with my friend yesterday to pick up another WH for him, it has a number of attachments to go with it, these being a rototiller, two cutting decks, a snow plough and a single furrow plough, all WH items. Some of them may be for sale if they are of interest. Cheers for now, MartinH
