I want to thank everyone for the very warm welcome to Red Square that you have given me. What with Summer being here and lawns and other tractor/motorcycles/motorhome upkeep, I haven't had a chance to do much so far except remove the WEIGHTS ! and drain the old gas. Is there such a thing as a downloadable Factory Manual for the 953 ?

We flew the Wheel Horse flag at the 33rd SIAM- Southern Indiana Antique Machinery Show in Evansville, Indiana on June 8, 9 and 10th at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Spoke to folks from Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Michigan at this big show. Lane (Lane Ranger) and David (TravlinDave) Ralph took two RJ's and a their uncle Don Redding took a custom 317 John Deere "Bulldog"! We had a very nice visit on Saturday with Ken Smith ( (KC9KAS) another Red Square member. Also visited with Roger Parmley of Greencastle and Larry Greener of Winslow, Indiana . There were several there at the show.

While talking to Knusern (Lars) last night on Skype about his new acquisition, the sun rose and we caught this picture. Then, when I got up early today to meet dlpaw (Dan) who stopped by to pick up some parts that DClarke (Denny) left here for him, I got to see the sun rise again here half way around the world. How cool is that?? :) :)

Thanks very much Guys for the responses. I'll take onboard all you have said here and maybe run a few trials at various settings. I do have very little play in the Spindles - Axle. Axle Pivot is new and shimmed to 0.010" clearance fore and aft axle play. I'll check my Raider 12 with Fixed length Rods to see what the setting is (all in good condition). At the end of the day, as long as it doesn't veer sharply when I let go of the Steering wheel to pass my beer to my other hand without spilling it, I'll be happy!. Thanks again

OK, Trapping the Gophers would be bad because my kids would want to keep them as pets, and I'm trying to have them move somewhere else. as for the sheep or lamb I think I'd rather tolerate the gophers because they're at least quiet. as far as ringing the necks of the little rodents I'd rather not. (although it has crossed my mind a time or two.) any better Ideas guys would be helpful . Craig try not to be so sheepish. Thanks

I'm cleaning up a Charger 10...making a few changes and you know how is goes....one thing leads to another and so on. I added a hydraulic lift from a Bronco to this Charger a few months ago and a couple lines leaked at the ends. I remembered a thread by CharliesD250 a year maybe more back and started checking things out. I had a hose made a little over a year ago (the shortest one) and it cost 30 bucks thereabouts. So I got pre-made hoses online with 1/4 inch JIC swivels in lengths of 12, 18, 24, and 30 inches. I also need to get some JIC to SAE #5 ORB connectors....straight ones And elbows...4 of each... The elbows installed... I got the elbows locally because they were sold at a different site and with the shipping they would have cost over 5 bucks a piece. Well with gas I guess I spent that anyway, BUT, there is a 1/4 inch JIC elbow (m to f) that could be used on the same site I got the rest of the stuff. I'm going to try it next time. I need 3 hoses for the 160 and a couple for the D. Price for the hoses and straight adapters....52 and change shipped. Surpluscenter.com Thanks Charlie.....

Bob, I should have taken you approach. I would not have had so many headaches. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the pictures on page two! BTW, any information that you have shared so far has been greatly appreciated. j

So far so good, but that was just the opening act. I hope you don't make the evening news trying to get it off! BTW, it might be a good idea to rap it with a hammer whenever you happen to wander by. Not saying to make an effort to do so, but a bit of mechanical vibration now and then might help the fluid to penetrate quick and further. Just my opinion.

Jerry isn't cooking anymore. We stay in his motorhome and eat breakfast and dinner at the Apple bin restaurant. As we get older, we get wiser...............

I agree completely. They licensed rights to reproduce decals. They send a rep or two to the WH show each year. They donated a $5000 tractor to the WHCC club in 2006. The provide the parts viewer on the website. The sell copy/reprint manuals. It goes on... I think Toro kept the WH name alive far beyond what really was necessary. The fact they they were still building the Classic GT tractor in 2007 shows real committment, especially when demand was so low that a few can still be found unsold 5 years later. Deere didn't do that. Neither did Cadet. Or Simplicity. Or...Shoot, the only one I can think of that built a legacy machine in recent times was Ingersoll, but even they may be dead now. I don't lament the new equipment at all. If it is at all similar to other current Toro products it is a well-designed piece of equipent that performs its intended purpose effectively. The fact that it's a lightweight LT and not a lumbering, cast iron GT has only to do with people like all of us who don't buy new equipment. Geez, how many of us even have a Toro push mower? And they're probably some of the best in the market. Why Toro even stays in the consumer market is a mystery to me. Gotta build what sells. Thanks for posting Jason! Steve

Maybe you should get a somewhat newer machine with a Kohler Magnum. Same tough cast iron block but with an electronic ignition. Less stuff to mess with (points, coil, condensor) on the motor this way. Of course that means that the overall tractor will have more wiring but you said said you weren't a motor guy. You might be able to find a machine with less hours on it than something from 1974. Maybe a 308-8 or a 310-8? Mike...........
