Good question. As far as grass cutting duties go the 520 is the end of the line for me, anything else would be a step down. I've wanted one for yrs. now and I finally have one and I love it. Sure, I'll have to deal with Onan issues and what not sooner or later but pimpin ain't easy. :ychain:

Ever had a DCL panel look like this? Well, I wanted to make a plastic guide for mine, but I'm out of the stuff I use for such things. But, I had a piece of 1/4 aluminum plate. I really wish I had a milling machine, but I don't. You could probably turn 5 of these out in an hour with one, but all I have is a cordless drill and a porta-band. 90 minutes after starting, I had this: The test fit was OK. Now I just gotta paint the original plate. The aluminum is pretty hard stuff for aluminum, so hopefully it will last a while.

I have a 68 Commando six also. As previously stated, the deck you have is for your tractor. My dad had this mower since new, and gave it to me a few years ago. Mine is still working well. My engine plate says it's an HH60 Tecumseh 6 HP. Has a lot of use on it, but still works very well, but is no longer my main mower, lawn takes a little to long to mow it all with this little jewel.

Still love the B-80! I will put forth that there are always a B-80 or 8 hp engined WH in a lot of folks collection. they were the "entry level" into the garden tractor and the pull start 7 HP also since it had the same rock steady tranny

Just off the top of my head I can think of what would be the 3 most common problems. Belt not tight enough, worn belt, trying to go to fast for the hight of grass. I guess 4th would be possibly a worn pulley.

Typically speaking, just no love for the Tecumseh engines here...period. I think it's fair to say it's Kohler country here on :rs:

That sounds like an excellent approach Jeff. It would seem that the reverse speed would be pretty limited due to the danger involved, and that they probably designed it not to use the full range of the forward motion. Figuring out how to find the sweet spot the first time can be a pain, then after that it's pretty easy. I know what it's like to lie awake pondering these issues. That is usually when I get the best answers to the questions I ponder. The subconscious is a wonderful problem solver. If you figure it out, I hope you post some instructions on here for future endevours. BTW, taking pictures before you take it apart is one of the best 'tricks' I ever learned. I learned it the hard way of course. One of my old flight instructors used to have me help him rebuild his ultralights. He was really good at taking pictures. I saw firsthand how useful it is. I usually feel really stupid standing there taking pictures of something that I think is simple and won't likely forget, but I have found that it is often the extraneous stuff in the pics that comes in the handiest. Several times with my D, I have gone back to see how something was put together. I often come across the info I want in a picture of something else. Thanks for all the comments. Yes it is the first one second one ready to start 63 Lawn Ranger I picked up for $60.00 complete. And yes Trouty56 it is really a Model 1-17931 but it came with the 10 horse Kohler with stickers over the Charger 9.

Thanks Guys! Every time Byron hears me complaining about not having enough room in the shop for all my junk, he says " I could always burn it down for ya again, and we could rebiuld it bigger!" That's the mark of a true friend there. Anyway, I did get the coil in today for the little Briggs, and it sure has fire now. I've never seen it jump a spark that healthy before! I didn't have time get the tractor all back together today, and give it a proper test, but I will tomorrow. Danny came running when I walked through the front door today, and said " Did you get my tractor running yet Dad? You know there's only two more days until my birthday" with a very concerned look on his face. I told him no, and I wasn't sure it would be ready by then. That poor kid, the look on his face almost killed me, but there has to be some surprise. This is the only birthday present I've ever given him, where he knew what it was going to be 2 months before he got it, so I had to leave him guessing a little bit. I hope I don't crack. It's hard seeing him down in the dumps, but we'll turn that frown upside down in 2 days! Matt :flags-texas:
