Just some pics of my shop and perennial beds at my nursery, 8 years ago this was just a field, the only help was electrical service install and septic tank, other than that, everything was done by myself. After a fall from the trusses to the concrete floor, and 8 months on the couch eating hydrocodone like it was candy I thought it would never get done. I could never do it now. The injury and years have caught up with me,, Tim

As mentioned in another thread, Europe is Gaining a Suburban! LOL This little 551 is headed to Norway! Lars AKA Knusern and I have been talking for some time in the chat room. (And some of you thought it was useless! HAHA) I recently bought a "lot " of tractors on EBAY and this little Jeewl was in the mix. Lars has been wanting another tractor, but they are very expensive in Norway. So I told him he could have this Suburban if he could get it there. It is missing some pieces , but shows some promise. I have looked at a few Suburbans, the fenders are in great shape, rear tires seem ok Front end needs some attention. Not sure whats going on with that hood stand? Basically the plan is this...We are going to gather all the parts here in the states, Then I am going to take it apart, to fit into a shipping crate. Then off to Norway for Knus to restore it.

Here is a 400 that I had to pick up today at the show in Somers. Guys stopped by and saw my tractors and said he had one like that, He asked if I would be interested in buying it and you know the rest. Less than a mile up the street on the way home from the show and here she it... The rear needs work but looks pretty complete. One thing I am confused on is the decal. it looks to be a 401/551 sticker on a 400? Looks original to me?

When I saw the hitches Smoreau was making I just had to have one. I got in on build #1 because they were just too cool - beyond my will power. When I got it installed, I marveled at it and liked to just look at the craftsmanship. Then I wondered... now how am I gonna make this work to pull implements? It won't work with a WH clevis hitch and I have a plow and a cultivator with Brinly attachments. Well – I came across a JD Brinly hitch like this one I almost couldn't bring myself to modify it because they bring a pretty penny - but decided "what the heck" A hitch in the hand is worth two in the bush... or something like that. So I cut off the two outside mounting plates and had the center bar welded to a receiver hitch. Works like a charm! Thanks again Scott! John in Claremore, OK

I added a few more horses to the hangar over this past week. I found a 702 and a 552 for parts and then I dug a 603 out of the weeds of Wyoming this past weekend. The 603 was the right price but I had to drive several hours to get it but it came with several attachments. I think the only attachment I will keep will be the plow for pushing snow, I can't see using the rest at an airport. I saw a gallery pics of someone's 753 with dual tires and dual mufflers. That was a beautiful machine.... I would like to see it I can piece together something like that. I just need a hood for either the 702 or 552. Attached are pics of my part horses, the 603 and my keeper the RJ58. Brian SLC-UT

And Rich (312hydro) gets a star by his name! I disconnected the line from the spool valves, and slowly engaged the pto. Nothing came out, and the pump was unhappy, and the belt started smoking. I shut everything down. I checked the quick connects, and made sure that the points opened properly. I started the tractor, and held the pressure pin open (by hand), and slowly engaged the pto. And it started flowing. I put the quick connects back together, and slowly engaged the pto again, and checked the outlet going to the spool valves. Lotsa flow! I could barely run it for a few seconds, and it must have peed out almost a quart. Woohoo! I hooked everything back up, and slowly engaged the pto again. No pump issues, and no melting belt. I figured that I would run the system to fill the cylinders. I didn't know which spool valve was for the lift or tilt, so I just picked one. I pushed it in, and the pump went crazy, and the belt started smoking. Shoot! I quickly killed the engine and disengaged the pto. I rechecked the quick connects, and everything seems ok. I opened and closed both of the spool valves to release any pressures. I started the engine and slowly engaged the pto. Pump turned, and the belt did not smoke. I tried the spool valves again, and nothing happened. The pump is turning nicely, but nothing moves when I moved the spool valves. I checked the flow going to the spool valves, and there is nothing. The pump is turning and the belt is ok, but no flow. I hope I didn't kill the pump. Hopefully, I'll find some time tonite to check it further. It may be that it is low on oil. I put three quarts in like the manual says. I lost about a quart re-establishing the flow to the spool valves, and I have oversized lift cylinders. Maybe I am out of oil? More at 11

Shame on Dairy Queen! I wounder how many kids have ended up with a bad case of the red butt, because of that sign. I can tell you that, if my kids started screaming in the car, it wouldn't be ice cream they would be getting when I stopped! I'm old school! Matt :flags-texas:

My dad was an AMC/Jeep mechanic. And as such he was always working on someone's car. So as a kid I thought it was normal to tear things apart and put them back together. Yet I was amazed at the ruggedness of those jeeps from the 60's and 70's. Dana 60 axles, 4speed trannies with creeper low, the old straight six.....I think that's where my appreciation for the "Heavy Duty" aspect of tools and equipment came from. I knew a few people who had experience with WHs. When It came time to get some "old iron" for our vacation house I looked at Gravely, JD, Simplicity, and of course the Red ones. A new Garden tractor for $5000+ wasn't in the budget. But a 20 y/o old red one for $500 and some elbow grease was. From previous experience with a Craftsman garden tractor I knew what not to get. And with the WHs parts are easy to come by, new or used. Accessories are available in bulk here in the northeast. And all that horrible maintenance is a breeze on these with a little guidance. Actually the maintenance i so simple its almost laughable. If Americans are ever to reclaim some of our lost heritage I think it ought to start with the family checkbook. Why buy a throwaway product when for a lot less money you can buy an investment in your own financial future. And in a couple year I'll be teaching my boys the value of a quality product with these lil red horses!

Thanks so much Matt and everyone else for the nice compliments. Well these two were really at the top of the list as they were the most attainable in my mind. Other than these two, I would love to acquire a nice 420 LSE someday. Now I know that will take quite a bit more of the green backs, but it would still be nice to have one in the stable. After that I would say any RJ, especially 25's, 35's, 57's, or Pond tractors. Just wishing and not actively pursuing. Yeah Martin more work ahead of me. I think I have enough projects to keep me busy for a few years. The 701 has yet to be completed and it probably won't receive any focus until after the "big" show. Hopefully we can get it done before the October show. Have kind of turned our focus to some of the low production/rare models 1961-present. Well at least in our mind. Have acquired the 701, 603, 754, 1045, E-81, E-141. We enjoy finding the models that you just don't find everywhere. Might need to make an addition in the barn soon or start storing more at my place. It is fun to say the least!

I know how everyone like pics, here are a few. I added the shields on it today. This 550 has a decent running 6 hp Tecumseh on it. It seems like just enough power, I wonder how well these worked with just a 4 hp on it?

Always something that needs fixing when you have guys that don't care about equipment. I always tell our maintenance crew "as long as there are idiots, you guys have job security"!

just bought a couple 520,s one had 1100 hrs other 800 took both motors out shrouds off both were caked with dirt grass grease ect . took heads off cleaned carbon out valves needed a little cleaning cleaned carbs sea foam works great found loose wires bolts frayed wires ect inside flywheel was caked solid with dirt stator was really dirty cleaned it all up .getting ready to put them both in tractors soon before i pulled them out one motor was surgeing other smokeing a little i had same problem with many tractors in the past an got them to run smooth every time .mainly by just cleaning them up making sure you got good oil , premium gas, good plugs and wires . replace all bad wires , clean all fins soak carb parts in sea foam ,make sure starter is good . when you get the motor running after total cleaning choke out the motor with sea foam till it stalls wait 15 min srart it up it,ll run like a champ make sure your outside for this will smoke alot . also i talked to an ol wheel horse guy '' friend of mine '' on the 520,s they tend to smoke some an use a little oil past 1200 hrs this won,t hurt a thing it,s a horizontal motor rings are gettin a little worn but you still got alot of life left in the motor . you,ll know when the motors had it , but 9 times out of 10 some rummy dummy didn,t spend the time to do general maintence , basicly lazy , and riuned a 5,000 tractor . also the 60 in mower deck i,d dump it an get a 48 or 42 they work ten times better and easier to handle 60 in too darn heavy for that tractor , i dumped mine bought a new 48 and rebuilt two 42 . the 520,s with the gear reduction steering and front mount mower carrier work really smoth i prefer them over zero turns any day more comfortable . the 60 in deck tends to tear up the lifting arm under tractor and the front steering pin an plate assy . just too much for that little tractor buy a 48 in you,ll love it especially with a front mount mower carrier set up right their really smooth u.s.m.c forever semper fi

Yep, it's not been fun. Got lucky on the weather today, no rain just plenty of wind.. It came in handy for drying out the tarmac from all the over night rain. Hey Craig, doing it outside was the only option, the car's too long to fit all four wheels in the shack. Not that I'd fancy lying under a car that's resting on a couple of axle stands that are on a wooden floor.. The tight deadline is so my Wife can drive to work tomorrow.. No public transport out here in the sticks.. The nearest bus stop is about 2 miles away.. All up hill from here! Hi Mike, my Wife would love you for calling her a "teenager" Yep, the car now has a new clutch, pressure plate and bearing.. And despite a certain "well known" (one of the big clutch replacement chains) scare story of the flywheel having a 95% chance of being chewed up, it was fine! Thanks Richard.. Reassembly was/is... far from smooth Hey Latt I understand all too well about getting very burnt out doing these sort of jobs.. My body just can't handle it too well these days, in fact I feel so rough that I can honestly say I will never again do this sort of thing.. Ever! As they say in all the best films, "I'm too old for this sh*t". The good news is the gearbox is in after a massive struggle.. Why is there always less space to get a 'box in then there was getting it out The bad news is there is still loads of bit's to bolt back on the car, but you know when the tiredness hit's so hard you can't concentrate, stopping is the best/safest thing to do. Have a photo of the gearbox back in the car.. It's under there somewhere!

Sorry for such a delay. My computer has been under weather. I have finally been able to get some attention onto the 854. Meanwhile I have been able to get everything painted and ready for assembly. The only thing I have to finish is the motor but I already stated into it and things are moving along nicely. Being a high school student leaves me with little time to do things but I am still managing. Let me know what your thoughts are

I don't know about the trailer...but in the low rolling hills of northeast Ohio, it looks like it has great possibilities as a front porch. Here, hold my beer and watch this. :banana-rock: :orcs-cheers:

I don't mind JD, cub, etc. older tractors. I prefer Wheel Horse and thats all I own, But when I walk next to all those nice shinny new green tractors at Lowes I find my self fantasizing what those tractors are thinking. The only thing I could come up with is "I wish I was a real John Deere!" What they call a cast iron front axle these days looks like it weighs about 2 lbs. Plastic bushings for front wheel bearings. And a non serviceable rear axle. I owned a 85ish JD 160 with a 12HP Kawasaki engine that run great. It had a 36" deck and snow blower. I had to fix the peerless trans 5 times in 5 years. At least the parts are still available. Other then cutting grass. I would say it sucks for anything else. I sold it and bought another .

MIKE!
