From Merriam Websters Dictionary... Definition of MOTOR 1: one that imparts motion; specifically : prime mover 2: any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: as a : a small compact engine b : internal combustion engine; especially : a gasoline engine c : a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy Definition of ENGINE 4: a machine for converting any of various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion; also : a mechanism or object that serves as an energy source <black holes may be the engines for quasars> The long lived fallacy that a "motor" is an electric device and an "engine" is a fuel powered device simply is not true. The technical difference, from years of personal study, a "motor" is any thing that imparts motion I.E. when you ride a bicycle, YOU are the motor! An "Engine" is a machine that functions as a "Motor". However, I do not have hard copy reference for that. Even engineering textbooks do not agree on the correct usage of "Engine" and "Motor"... Interesting side note...Traditional definitions of Motors and Engines all stated "circular" motion, and now we have "Linear Motors".... In literature, the rule on such a case where there is no clear definition of correctness for word usage is to go with the commonly accepted usage of the word. In this case, most everybody calls that thing under the hood of your "Pick-Up" a motor....maybe because it is? By the way, light duty cargo vehicles with an enclosed cab and open bed have been called a "Pick-Up TRUCK" for decades, some abbreviate it as "Pick-Up" but most abbreviate it to "truck"..... My father taught me; "When everyone else seems wrong and your the only one right, maybe you need to check into that?" I taught my Children; "Is it really worth getting upset about? It doesn't hurt you to let others be stupid...." :angry-chillpill:

LOL...Ohh yeah, Crazy, I need a signed waiver of liability from your parents before I give you any more advice.... :angry-nono:

The contract for your liability protection is a good idea. As for price, I'd say call or stop by the hardware store or nearest equipment rental type place, and see what they charge to rent something similar and go from there. You can choose higher or lower. Depends on if you want word to get out that your renting stuff now. Completely different idea..... have one of your kids mow for him for the same money or maybe just a little less. Don't know what size lawn we're talking about here, but lawn services usually start in the $35-40 per cut range for an average city lot. This would let you keep the tractor and keep better tabs on the maintenance, the kids get some work and money, he gets the lawn mowed. Win-win-win to me.

Dang attorneys...they have ruined way too many things. Can't even mow somebody's grass or deliver a paper any more without litigation. Used to be a man's handshake meant something. I am just shaking my head and wondering what it takes to help somebody out once in a while when they are down. I know I will never stop helping out when I can. To me, that is what life is all about. That is the stuff that makes you who you are....what would this world be like if everyone was afraid to help out someone in need because they might end up in court. A sorry state indeed. :)

The Kohler P/N is X-583-2-S and it can be replaced without removing the crankshaft. Use anything other than genuine Kohler seals & gaskets at your own risk.

Some good food for thought above Kelly. Around here, just running the horse around mowing is going for about $20 a shot....no trimming or yard waste. I like what Jason said about getting paid for mowing the lawn with one of your kids getting the money. They may still be liable for damage done though. Even good friends can screw you...welcome to the 21 century. :)

Is this what we are down to??? OMG!!! First, I agree with Tap, an engine is internal combustion, steam, etc. While we all know an engine can be called a motor, it is never used in the reverse. I do not think I have ever heard of an electric motor being called an engine. I have never changed the engine in my furnace. :hilarious:

My father taught me; "When everyone else seems wrong and your the only one right, maybe you need to check into that?" Your Father must be Great, and Yes, it is a good thing to remember what he said. I agree with you, but I'll still call motors "MOTORS" and engines "ENGINES" and pickups "PICKUPS" and trucks "TRUCKS" and a pair of pants, Hmmm, what happened here,, something changed,, 2 PANTS.. oh my... And what do you get when you spell RACECAR backwards, PICKLE ??? and God Speed to GOOGLE.. The End

General Motors... Ford Motor company.... American Motor Corporation... It's all semantics. More important things to worry about in this world. Like how they're going to stop teaching children cursive writing in schools because everything now is on computers. Goodbye penmanship and signatures. Hello biometrics and retinal scan identification.

Some things just bother me, and that seems to be one of them, just like Hodge and hydro fluids, I respect him for that, everyone has different opinions.. What got me started was a friend called me, I'm busier that a cat covering poop on a linoleum floor right now, so he talking about this motor, does this black wire go here, does this red wire go here, this red wire comes out of this box, etc.. after, 10 min of listening to that, he said a key word, GAS, hes working on his Dynamark ridding mower, GEEESSS, get it right from the start..

I picked this up about a week ago. I purchased it knowing the transmission had a problem. Upon taking the tranny apart this is what I found. Last night I bought a parts tranny from Fireman for next to nothing. Thanks Jeff! I picked up some new bearings and seals today and I made my own gaskets. Well, here she is, tranny works perfect and the K90 runs mint. Here is a video and pic of the bad gear.

Call me curious, but what did he use to cut the grass before the bank took the house? Did they take his lawn mower too?

The red looks cool Jeff . I'm not keen on the original WH white on black and will probably be shot for saying this but to me the white on black looks kind of cheap. I did my C-120 dash silver on black and will do the same on the D-200. After all, there's got to be some scope for 'pimping your ride' in these projects. Got to figure out a repair for my dash before I can paint it - its the type with many dials and has a crack down the middle where the palstic has shrunk in the sun over the years. Seen the same thing on photos of other guy's Ds. There I go using Americanisms like 'pimping' again but such is the power of the internet and with so much US stuff on tv here we've tended to adopt certain phrases and terms where there are gaps in our version of the language. James asked: Racked my brains on this one. I can't put down the sorts of words I actually use when I unearth some of these things on projects but the respectable traditional term for them is a 'bodge', the person who does it is a 'bodger' and the result is a 'bodged job'. In reality 'redneck job' or similar is becoming used as a result of the humour that circulates across the pond via email. I'm not convinced that there are many 'Walmart People' over here though but we'd know one if we saw one, again down to global nature of the internet. Andy.

I work for JASPER Engines & Transmissions....we remanufacture internal combustion ENGINES. We also own a company called JASPER Electric Motors....they remanufacture electric (AC & DC) MOTORS. Tap53...if you want to argue with me, you will have to pick another subject!
  22. 1 point
I got you TAP53 I recently got called out when I refered to an Engine as a Motor. Only thing I still have a rough time thinking of an outboard engine. It used to be a rule but like everything else now days They seem to be refered to either way. But I do have Engines on all my tractors but there are a few that have Electric motors. JIM in Texas

I had the same problem. Took the spindle to a friend of mine who is a kart engine mechanic. Applied some heat to the spindle housing and the bearings fell out. To install I placed the new bearing in a freezer and set the spindles on a heater. did not need a press to put them back in.

I'm a fan of Synthetic oil, I change the filter each year and top the oil off, after a few years I will drain it, I found in the cold winter temps my hydros don't labor when starting, the oil flows like it should, not like syrup, and I can buy 5qts of Mobil ! at Wal mart for $26, good reg oil is $3.50-4 a qt so it's not that much more. But with that being said, a oil change and new correct filter is best. no matter what brand or type you use, but I can't say use ATF over motor oil, I use what it calls for, just my brand and type.

Change the oil and filter but it sounds like your hydro pump or motor is nearing the end of its life. The symptoms sound like they are heat induced. The longer you use it, the worse it gets? The problem is you cant really tell what the problem is until theyre disassembled and you can inspect the slippers and swash plate condition. Check out this thread, I just posted it last week about the internals of a pump. Yours shouldnt be that different inside unless its a hydrogear instead of a piston to piston unit.
