I did not get photos or video in which I wish I would have. But we got about 12 to 14 inchesof snow last night. So I went out this morning and fired up the old 60 suburban 400 to plow. Well she did her job amazingly as usual. But as I'm wrapping up my last couple swipes to the dog cage, I hear someone calling my name. So I turn to find a close by neighbor asking if I could help him quick. So I say sure and to my surprise he got his John deere stuck in the snow. He was so proud of this investment during the summer. It's a gt 235 I believe. Either way he's got a snowblower and weights on it and it was buried. Well instead of firing up another tractor. I hooked a pull strap to the back of his tractor and to mine. And the old girl pulled it out in first gear about half throttle. I was laughing inside pretty heavily. But he was amazed on the power of the wheel horse. I drove away smiling. I get inside and my better half says you enjoyed that way to much, I could see you grinning from three houses down.

Found these yesterday on craigslist. Picked them up that afternoon. The guy had bought a used JD x240 from an older gentlemen and these came with it. He didn't need them. They couldn't find the other front weight, but I just need the backs. Never been used. Guest I'm gonna have to paint them.

12-16" of the white stuff. Had the 520 out first with the blower but no pics. Throttle froze after the first 5 min of blowing. Seems to be freezing where it loops under the engine. It froze on me last year too. going to have to try to figure out why. But got it knocked down enough to get the C-160 out to scrape it down. Lots of ice under it and it made it heavy. Had to move the piles with Elvis. This lovely couple hung out on my porch warming up from the dryer exhaust.

Kinda wanted a 42" blade for one of the other Horses. Found one on the local CL site which basically needed just some TLC. Even came with the mounting bracket. Everything cleaned primed and painted ready to reassemble. Made up a new cutting edge.

Removing snow in Northwest Florida Woke up one morning back in March on 1993, went outside to get the paper and found 4 inches of the white stuff on the ground. Came back in, put on a big pot of coffee, lock the doors, loaded the guns, and waited for the sun to remove it... it was a rough five hours.

I was tempted to have one of my kids or the boss lady video it. But i figured that would be kinda rude to the poor guy, You could see he was not very happy that his pride and joy let him down.

This is my go to bearing grease. I have had good protection in boat trailer wheel bearings that are constantly being submerged in salt water . For low speed sliding and rotating surfaces, I like Lubriplate #2.

The rims are... Yellow?! Before getting into anything else, I will go ahead and address the question, "why are the rims yellow"? I still don't want to totally reveal my plans because I'm not confident I have the skills to actually pull it off, but for now lets just say I'm going for an industrial look. To go with that industrial look, I picked some 5.70-8 Kenda x-grips for the front. The height was a good match for the 18x6.50-8's that came on the tractor. The Interco's were the biggest tires I have tried to mount myself, and proved to be some of the more challenging ones as well. I'm not sure if they fit different because they are ATV tires, but it took more of an effort than I'm used to to get them onto the rim. I mounted them with tubes because I tend to not have much luck getting beads to seat with my smallish air compressor. As it turns out, the beads didn't want to fully seat with the tubes either. On both tires, and both sides on each tire, I have a similar amount of bead that won't seat fully up to the edge of the rim. I'm hoping that when the weather eventually warms up, the tires will become a little more pliable and will seat the rest of the way. Installing the tires on the tractor was fairly uneventful. Thankfully, the GT-14 hubs came off much easier this time (thank you, never-seize) The 520H hubs went on without too much difficulty as well. The axle key from the GT-14 is actually longer than the 520H hub is, so should provide more strength than the key usually used with those hubs. As expected, installing the hubs an extra inch inward on the axle positioned the tires (mostly) inside the fenders. The tires plumped up a little bit when they were inflated so they are now just a little bigger than the original tires. Seeing the tires all installed on the tractor was a nice boost in motivation to continue with this project. The pace will probably be slower the next couple months with some other, non-tractor activities coming up, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and seeing the results.

You should only have power to the negative side of the coil when the points are closed. Sounds like you may need to take a look in that department first. Points should be clean, and gapped at about .020.

Got the bucket connection points worked out tonight. I highly recommend bolting the angle to the bucket loosely with bushings pressed in place, inserting pins through the bushings to line everything up, tightening the bolts, and then tacking the bushings to the angle. Getting the pins to slide snugly yet freely can be a challenge.

Figured I'd throw my latest pics up here. Added front wheel weights, 2" receiver hitch, led tail lights, and a ROPS off a mini excavator. Also got the belt guard painted and lengthened the plow frame for the swept axle. The ROPS not only allowed me to mount the lights nice and high but also adds 85lbs of rear counterweight. Next up for it is electric pto clutch and then a full time hydraulic setup. Want hyd lift and eventually (like years away) a loader setup. Only difference is the pump and tank will stay on permanently. These weights are a dime a dozen and cheap so I figured I'd take a chance they'd fit. Of course they didn't and the hole had to be made bigger to accommodate the bearing housing of the wheel. Carbide tip hole saw and a few whacks with the chisel later and they fit. I think they would work on the standard 8" wheels with no mods. Lots of spaghetti Switch for front fog, rear fog, and strobe. One empty for future whatever and two direction switches for future electric chute mods on the single stage.

I used a 1/2" x 4" poly edge on a 48" blade that I installed before last season began on my 414/8. I have a 450' asphalt drive with parking area and turn around. I plowed all last winter and 7 times this winter (so far) and the blade edge shows NO perceptible wear (just a little rounding on the outside corners). Before installing the edge I chamfered the the cutting edge with my wood plane so that it mated at the correct angle with the driveway surface. I am very pleased with the poly edge. It doesn't wear and it doesn't scratch. The only negative is that it looks a little klutzy being 1/2" thick. For me that is OK as performance trumps looks. I also use the rubber tire chains modified to 2 link spacing. I have also found them to work well. as they don't scratch the drive. I have found the traction to be a little less than steel chains when pushing up the hill on the drive. The slipping of the rubber chains does not mark the drive and the straps show little evidence of wear. I used to use steel chains and they really marked the drive when slipping. Conclusion: I am very satisfied with the poly blade edge and the rubber tire chains. Eric

Men Are Just Happier People! What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress - $5,000. Tux rental - $100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time. Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Two pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck. You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes - one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look... You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache. You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes. No wonder men are happier!

After nearly 70° yesterday, today in WV was hovering between 15-20° as I removed the FEL and actually got the 4 way hydraulic blade installed, plumbed and mostly working (up/down works great as well as angle left but angle right is slow to not at all, might be the cushion block/valve between the single acting cylinders, as ALL cylinders were rebuilt by a reputable shop), so here's the finished product till I get that last little snag taken care of, pics and a couple videos, Jeff. The pto bell for the blower and deck? I use high temp red grease in mine. Don't over pack it because if you get it on the clutch disk it wont hold and the pto will get vacuum stuck to the shaft with too much grease.

What you have I believe IF the engine is original is a 1973 16 auto. That type of hydro control is the give away as it was only used in 1973 and the seat pan also. I don't think the 16hp is original because it has manual lift I have never seen a 16hp auto or a C160 auto without, its most likely a 12 or 10 auto originally. From 1973 and up it should have 3 safeties , one for the PTO control lever, seat and the brake pedal. I would not try to start as not only all throttle control linkage is missing but the governor linkage is missing also and could over rev the engine and scatter it.

Thanks Paul. I'm really green when it comes to the mechanical side of these little engines, but I'm wanting to learn. I guess the only way to learn is to jump in both feet first. I really appreciate your help and guidance and all of the great folks here on RS. That's what makes this hobby so great - all the people and great friendships I've made!
