Have had my eye on this '70 model K20, 350, 4sp, 4x4... as the lease on my '15 Silverado is almost up.

Yep, my Grandpa was a Chevy man...

Here are some pictures of my old truck now my oldest sons truck he is now 19 years old, it is a 1986 K-20 I bought this truck used when I was 18 years old and I’ve had it ever since. My oldest son showed interest in restoring it and now it is his and currently has the engine tore out of it this winter because we are doing a LS swap in it and now it is currently getting a 2000 5.3 engine. The plan is to have it running again in the spring!

Yep, and my Dad was a Chevy man too... was so happy to get his hand me down '90 Chevy 1500, 4x4 when he retired from the railroad. Man, I loved that truck...ultimately put 250K miles on that old girl. Last I knew...this '67 was still sitting across the street from my Mom's, out in Colorado. For a non runner, I was thinking they were a little steep on the asking price...let alone, the color...I don't know if I could do it. Price doesn't seem so bad now though.

My '03 S-10 was a great little truck...err...land speed missle. That 4.3 Vortec is waaay underrated.

I built this Street Rod '48 Ford F1 pick up thirty years ago. In it's day it was a trophy winner and was in a few magazines and was even in the brochure for the Charlotte Motor Speedway in '96. It has over 100K on the odometer and doesn't get out much any m,ore. We drove it the the NSRA Street Rod Nationals about twenty times and it has never been on a trailer or tow truck.

Hi all ! I picked up this '95 520 hydro today....it bursted into tears when it came into my garage....its in terrible shape !... Gave her some aspirin and the heater will keep her warm. The previous owner tried to "make her running" again, there are new spark plugs in it and it has compression. But that's about it. Heck they evan put on the tyres wrong ...how simple can things be ? It wont be fast..but i hope I get her going again.. Im very happy with this find !....its winter time...At least i know what to do in the spare time hihi.... Hoping to can forward my questions as always...thank you all in advance, Kind regards, Henry

Dug through dad's old slide collection and found these: This Pic is from the mid 1960's. This is my grandma's youngest sister and her kids. The truck was her husbands work truck. He was a carpenter. This one is for @ebinmaine Dad worked for about 5 years at a local IH dealership before entering the ministry. Here is the delivery of a pair of combines... This Dodge was their "bull truck" at the dealership. I'm not sure why they didn't use an IH pickup since they sold and serviced them This is the "truck" that I grew up with-dad's 1966 Scout. It was a beast! This is the aforementioned 1972 K10. This was my uncles truck. I have literally dozens of slides and pictures of it. It was a sweet looking truck and a hard worker. Working with it. Playing with it My dad is on the left and the owner, my Uncle Bob is on the right. More pics coming as I can dig them out... BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT

This is the only picture of this one I have at the moment. 1990 shortbed. I have had a 1955 chevy pick up, several early broncos, lowered 72 chevy longbed, lowered s-10 shortbed and a lifted 69 F-250. Try to get those pictures later.

Here is my grandpa's 1965 F100 that I ended up with...used to drive it daily, but it was vandalized while I was in the hospital after my accident...maybe someday I'll get it back on the road And this is one I really regret selling...a 1959 F100 factory 4x4...1959 was the first year of the factory 4x4 in the half ton Ford pickups, and there wasn't too many of them made And I suppose my daily driver could be considered a classic, as it is 37 years old lol
  11. 10 points
I'm sure not classic to most people but I was born in 94 and it was born in 92. Mom and dad bought it new and i bought it from them in high school.

Ok, coffee break, plus my chute finally clogged. . Where else, up by the street, salt etc. Very deep up there and thick. We got 11 to 13 depending where you measure at. We have drifts a foot and a half. The cab is worth it's weight in gold with the wind, blowing the snow every direction. The bride took a shot of me in the cab. I took some pics from inside the cab. Enjoy. Back outside to continue the battle. She's running like a good horse should Throwing a strong rooster tail. Glenn

A lot of cool examples of the Big 3 here - I like them all . My favorites were always old Power Wagons - even up into the 80's as those were some seriously stout pickups as well as the D series trucks . Current dinosaur I have here is an old 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser - model FJ40KCJA or better known as the short wheelbase hardtop model. Due to their value I won't wheel it hard , but it's a tank that just won't stop . The old 2F engines are legendary and just too stupid to die - no idea what miles are on this old girl - but it's definitely been around the block a few times , probably north of 300k according to the drivetrain wear signs - which is very little for old Cruisers since mechanically they are exceptionally stout . Double c-channel frame , 30 spline axles , 9.5" ring and pinions - built like a 1-ton truck or heavier . Weighs right at 2 tons despite the rust - and will beat it's driver to death with those incredibly heavy springs . Ride comfort - none , about the same as a hay wagon at highway speed ....lol . WIsh I were younger and didn't have the health issues - I'd love to restore the old girl like it deserves. Fully restored examples can go north of $100k easily , odd what folks will pay for such an iconic vehicle that really has zero comforts to it . It is like a WH though - always puts a smile on your face, even while in pain from trying to drive it . This is what it's like at 80mph - ignore the speedo since it hasn't been corrected from the stock tire size - those are 33" Toyo MT's on it , the thing is way off by almost 14mph+ . It should be for sale next spring ,as soon as I can get out there and repair the rear brakes (two leaking cylinders , has twins on each wheel) . I'm going to let go of it before it gets any worse from sitting out in the weather - that breaks my heart and the truck doesn't deserve it after so many years of service . Sarge

Yep 3 pedal man here myself, I let my 2000 Silverado 1500 4x4 extended cab 4.8 5spd go with 240k+ in '14 and it's still running around here on its second owner after me, but I will say the '14 Silverado with the back up camera makes it nice hitching up a trailer and the auto makes life easier in the cities light to light and it's kinda hard to beat the fuel mileage of it being a V8 truck, but I did get me an '06 short bed stripped model with the 4.3 V6 5spd just to "beat" around in maybe turn it into a "shop" truck as they say, Jeff.

yes sir! me too, especially like the old B models. This one is my favorite since I was a kid.

I love the camera on my 2004 Silverado for hitching up and backing into parking spaces especially with the tool box and extended cab. I can get really close. The best investment I made was adding the camera. I especially like how I hid the camera between the hitch and the bumper surrounded by metal for protection and also the perfect spot for hitching up. I almost always only have to back up once to hitch a trailer.

Cool thread Josh. I wish that I had digital pics of my old Chevy Luv that I had built in the early 90's. I had removed the 1800cc 4cyl engine and shoe horned in a 283ci engine with a 4 speed. It was really good at roasting a set of 295/50-15 tires off. Instead I will share a pic of my the last classic truck that I owned. I bought this truck the same way that I like to buy most things, on its last legs & begging to be rescued. It had sat in a field for many years but after a little tinkering I was able to drive it onto the trailer and haul it home. It was a very low mileage truck that was fairly solid, my plan was to set it up as a show hauler. I started gathering parts and then I was offered a good amount of money for the truck & parts that I had gathered. There will be other trucks I'm sure.

Ok, the weather forcasters are saying 6" to 12" inches for where I live. We will see how accurate they are. I have been in the garage the past couple hours, checking oil, belt, chains, tensions etc. After I post this, I am heading back out to put the chains on the 416-8. The C-175 has been pulling duty so far this year. I took the ponies for a cruise up and down the driveway a few times. Get their juices moving. There backed into the stable in start off positions, ready to go. We have super lo temps (frostbite conditions), and high winds coming in. So GLAD for the cab this year. Thanks Ed, for selling me the cab. Its cramped, but cozy and it will keep me dry. Snug as a bug. I will be putting pictures up tomorrow to. We all enjoy pictures, so here are a few from tonight. Nothing fancy. Enjoy. Glenn

Easy! Beautiful truck! I've been a fan of old "real" crew cabs since looong before city slickers figured out they were cool. Had a '85 Chevrolet C20 longbed crew I'd love to replace some day.

@WV Hillbilly Jeff, those are some awesome rides!! I really like the step side on your Luv. I had an L88 hood, glass flares & front spoiler on my Luv for exterior dressings. Pulled all the plastic off of the dash & replaced it with hand made oak. Really miss kinda that truck. My scanner is down so I took some pics of the pics that I have. Quality sucks sorry.

So, last time I was in Colorado visiting Mom... we passed through Ridgeway, and had to stop at the True Grit Cafe. Basically, it is where The Duke(John Wayne) hung out while making the movie. While out front, they were celebrating some annual frontier days... I discovered this early '50's era Studebaker pick up just hanging around out back... I always thought, all done up...these things make for the coolest custom, and rat rod trucks.

My all time favorite truck: GMC "Crackerbox" with a screamin 2 cycle Detroit Diesel. These guys are just plain mean looking. As I understand they were hard on the driver. Guys paint these up all wild and show them now. I remember when I was a kid, a local moving company had one of these with "Big Mama " across the grille!

Its just deplorable how some people neglect their stuff. You probably feel like someone who just rescued an abused animal. Lucky for this animal it found you and it is as tough as they come. Looking forward to see the recovery.

Are you saying it doesn't touch the ground when you lower it? Unscrewing the circled knob will let the blade go lower.

I don't know if it would help the installation Glenn, but I always install the chains with the open side of the cross chain connecting link away from the sidewall. Less chance of the open hook gouging the sidewall. I see you have yours against the sidewall. Depending on the design, It does make it more difficult to connect some of the side chain connectors.

We have 3/4", and road are just wet. It all stopped by 6AM, and the public schools are closed. I remind my grandkids that when we were in school, they didn't think about closing until there was at least 3" covering the roads with a forecast of more.

My 20 year old1997 with a 5 spd. I still enjoy driving a stick . 84,000 miles and I'm the third owner. The 2010 sets in the garage with 36,000 and doesn't get driven because it's an automatic.

These are great guys! I didn’t expect the amazing diversity from the cab overs to the LUV but it is awesome—keep ‘em coming!!! Muscular big trucks to speedy small ones—sweet! Mine is a 1995 K2500 350 TBI with NV4500 gear slammer. It’s sitting a few ticks under 200K. I’m hoping I can keep it together for another 100K or so—time will tell.

Dad had a '69 C10 long bed before I came into this world, then I had had the '69 short bed 26 years ago, as we also had '69 C50 with a 15' flat bed that I hand loaded/stacked a few loads of firewood on when I was bit more sprite, @Achto, my very first ride was a 1976 Chevy LUV with California stepside that I later stuffed a 305 SBC in oh what fun, but for roasting 295s its the 'BU with the little 406 that's sitting out in the carport sleeping the winter away, which BTW was is an issue of Popular Hotrodding a few years back, Jeff.

The thought came to me yesterday that many of us on here like classic trucks. Depending on how old you are, may define your classification of vintage. I generally consider trucks that are pre 1977. However, my sons buddy came over the other day and was ranting and raving about my classic Chevy truck. It is my daily driver work vehicle rusty and trusty but I don’t think of it as classic... It got me to thinking though, my truck is a 1995 which is now 23 years old. My sons friend is 16 and so this truck is 7 years older than him. My uncle stopped driving this one in 1984 when it was only 15 years old. My other uncle had a 1972 K10 (pics coming soon) that my oldest cousin rolled on a snowy road in 1992 when it was only 20 years old. The age of the truck being considered classic is certainly tied to the perspective of the individual. For the sake of this thread let’s say any truck that you think is cool 1998 or older (antique status here in WI). Also included are awesome deliveries or SUV’s before that was even a term like the old K5 Blazer or Ford Bronco—as long as it shares it Chassis with a truck, its good. Maybe it’s one that you owned that you loved or one that you always wanted, or even better yet it’s one that you currently still own! are highly desired here even if you need to copy one from the net to illustrate a favorite that you haven’t gotten yet. No brand discrimination here but possibly some harmless ribbing... Let’s see your favorite Classic Horse Hauler’s guys...

Last storm we had I was slipping a bit plowing the sidewalk up grade. Part of it was due to ice under the snow. The other problem I had was the control lever for the plow kept coming off it's pivot (nut and bolt). To solve the trAction issue I added my suitcase weights. But to do that I had to mount my 2" receiver, and that needed to be widened to line up with the plow frame. I finished that then rebuilt the weight bracket out of 3" header beam. Holds 4 44lb weights. I fixed the control arm tonight with the right size bolt (1/2" coarse thread I think) with a lock bolt. Should work now. So with 100lbs of cast iron in the wheels and another 200lbs on the hitch I hope to see improvement. I have chains but I don't want to chew up a 3 month old driveway. I'll have some good pics tomorrow I'm sure top 2 are the rebuilt hitch then the bracket

@PeacemakerJack, Josh I see where you would like a Cummins in that '69 if you were to it right, but I'm sure if you search YouTube for Detroit Diesel 4-53 in a C/K Chevy and sounds much like the video John post of the 6-71 in the crackerbox , keep that GM all GM , not to mention how fast you could grab all 4 gears, Jeff.

Here’s my 1970 D100 short bed that I should’ve kept as the patina was awesome . It was a former California DOT truck (318 auto). You could barely read the lettering on the doors and it had a brass plaque on cab with its I.D. number on it . The GMC S15 in the background was 93 single cab loaded with bucket seats and counsel . That had the 4.3 vortec CPI injection with 195hp , 700R4 trans and 3.42 limited slip . It was a rocket, lay posi marks forever and could cherp the tires going into 3rd. Surprised quite a few Mustangs and Camaros back then . I still own a1984 Chevy C10 short bed from North Carolina (all original stock) . The truck is totally blowed apart at the moment. The cab , front end and frame has absolutely no rust (like Desert dry clean). The bed is a different story as it had a bed liner and rusted out the floor. The rear bottoms of the quarters and inside of steak pockets where the hinge for tailgate are gone . Along the top of bedside are banged up pretty bad too (it was used as a truck) . So any of my southern friends know of a good bed let me know. I found a picture of a truck that looks identical to mine but much nicer and hopefully someday mine will look as good. @AMC RULES Craig pull the trigger on either of those beauties.....don’t let them slip through your fingers procrastinating !

My daily driver is a 98 K1500 Silverado. Newest vehicle I've ever owned. Just had the trany rebuilt so I thought maybe I should have a backup. Found a cherry 97 2 door Tahoe. Pick it up tomorrow, weather permitting. Nowadays 120K is considered low mileage. My last truck, a 93 GMC K1500 with the 4.3 has 320K on original engine and trans. and never had a valve cover off of it. Some day I'll learn how to do pictures...ahh maybe not.

I know it isn't quite what you're looking for but. ... Go big or go home! These are MY idea of a classic truck and the perfect horsie hauler. My second favorite truck style: Not one's I owned or drove but a couple hard workin' rigs from out Dakota way.... Then there's my favorite : Old Macks
