    Just want to say hello & share a bit, to start. I'm not new to Wheel Horses, really, my Dad having owned them for as long as I can remember (he had @ least as many as 4 @ one time, that I remember). 20 yrs or more ago I remember we skidded ALOT of firewood with them before every winter; he plowed snow, cut lawn, etc. But it was only recently---these last few months---that I found a real interest in them, and told him so. I had always liked using/riding them, but never really said as much. Well, when I found out he more or less gave 2 away recently (they needed work), I kinda spoke up about the collectability, and how had I known, I woulda been glad to try n learn something, maybe fix them up. Then, just in talking/looking on the net, I learned more. He still had a '74 c-120; I bought a replacement headlight lens for him...he still hasn't installed it, but I think that's when he figured, and liked, that I found an interest, one that I know he always had. I will take this moment to state, straight up, that I am NO mechanic; nor am I mechanically inclined, like he is. But when we started talking Horses, him and I, I told him simply that maybe it was time I try to learn something new (small engines, and the like), and since I just like the looks of those Red Horses, it'd be neat to maybe try, and that'd be a good focal point, since he has experience with them. It's how I found this site; been lurking for months...and because of what happened next, has already been a big help & paid dividends, as i'll tell now. Was quite surprised last month when he told me he was going to look @ one, maybe two. He wasn't even going to take a trailer, 'cause he wasn't that serious. He came home late the next day with both, plus a handful of implements (all factory WH) and a homemade cab, with the help of the 1st fellow he bought from, lol. Imagine my surprise when he said one was mine, if I wanted. You'll see in those pics, the 1st time I took it for a spin...I dunno who is happier, him or me. It didn't have an hr meter, but he told me he thought it the better of the two. Well, b4 I even saw it, I found a NOS volt & hr meter for sale here, and bought them. Bolted/wired right in...I couldn't/wouldn't have bought one for the dealer price (I had checked). One final bit, then on to the pics...Dad bought his 1st WH from a local dealer way back when; Feldmann Sales & Service....as you'll see in one of the pics, There is a dealer sticker displayed proudly on the hood of it...kinda neat that @ sometime in it's life, this one, too, passed through there. They are still in business today; started out in 1956, selling WH---and the owner knows his Horses, and is a nice guy to boot (already bought some parts there). There is more I could add, but good enough for now...I already have plans for a next horse or two, as I'm able, if I can....I plan to be around for awhile, lol. Thanks for having me. And so...my 1st Horse....1992 vintage 312-8, on the 1st day I actually saw it. Annie, the Pointer, and Clara the Burmese / Border Collie mix checking things out. Annie likes to supervise EVERYTHING. Here's the whole fleet, now...FWIW, Dad has said 5 of those Husqvarna's don't equal ONE of the WH's, lol.

    I've been looking for a while. The bolt holes just line up and the wire is a little tight between the fender and light. No drilling though. They were at Rural King. I think about three bucks each. Optronics MC42RS RED Marker/Clearance.

    Our own RS member @grnlark ( AKA Matt ) is writing a Wheel Horse article for every issue now. We were talking about it at Zagray's and Stevebo's M&G and he has some pretty good ideas and a plan so keep an eye out for some more good WH stuff from him.

    Yes he did have a nice plug for RS. What is his handle here? Being featured collector is quite an honor and any machinist by trade is a friend of ours! Our very own @chris sutton got a mention from a reader write in about his UK Wheel Horse Round Up and a nice article about Pond walk b-hinds in this issue too! .

    I can't believe the market prices on some of those old bench vises - wish I had grabbed every one I ever saw in the scrap piles at the local yards back in the day when iron was high in value . Wilton bullets , Parkers , Rock Island , ect all bring top dollar in good shape now . In comparison to what is available today and their cost - well worth keeping your eyes peeled out there . I have a tactic for stuff like that - have friends and especially a couple of sister in laws that hit the garage sales pretty often across a wide area - show them some pictures of things to keep an eye out for - they will usually find it .     The lug on the end of that wire had broken off and sure enough it was just hanging there took about 5 minutes to replace the end and reattach it to the spade it was originally connected to.

    Well Skipper (Tom) and his family finally showed up at my Mom's house yesterday...along with Tom Cornford. They have been very busy horse russeling in the Mid West. They showed up with 2 large trailers full of Wheel Horses that are headed to Denmark. He got my 1972 Raider 10 with a tiller. Here are a few pictures.     Hello All, This may be long and it is my first post here. I recently made my first wheel horse purchases. My grandpa has had several of the A-90 style wheel horse tractors. Having been in a wreck many years ago he drives them around the tractor shows rather than walking. He wanted an RJ but they are few and far between here in Kansas, so I settled upon getting him an early round hood as a surprise, albeit early Christmas present. I found semi locally 2 round hoods for sale. A 653 and a 704 for $350. Neither ran, the 653 did not have an installed motor. The deal came with a H60 and a K181. I gave him the 653 and the locked up H60. He quickly freed the motor but has not taken delivery of the tractor yet for restoration. I plan on using mine like his when I go to shows to poke around on. However having recently purchased my first house and small acerage, and being an avid gardener I plan to put mine to work. So I fell off the deep end and immediately purchased: Mid and rear mount cultivators. Mid mount blade Front mount blade Extra wheels for a dual setup Rear Plow ( I need a coulter though) Dump cart (bathtub type) HY-3 hydraulic setup WT-XXX Tiller I also purchased a SR-64 speed reduction kit cover which brings me to the meat of this post. I would like to use my tiller with the reduction kit to work my garden. I feel that I can easily piece together the required components. Flat bar, 7 1/2" pulley, 2 idlers a belt and various hardware. But the dimensions of the idler setup I would like to mimic as close as possible. If someone has one of these setups and is willing to measure it I would be very greatful. If you want to know what I need then I can elaborate. However I essentially need every dimension of that bar and how it is constructed. Pics would be so helpful. Pictures if the tiller and my cover included. Not my pictures they are from the sellers posts. Having a semi permanent speed reduction kit doesn't bother me too much as I plan on buying another round hood after this one is refurbished. After all......that HY-3 won't fit on my 704.     A long long time ago there was a thread here about which wheel horse would be on your "wanted hit list". One of them was a GT-14 which thanks to Neil, one came my way.. A great machine which has now moved to pastures new.. The other I'm sure you can guess from the title was a D-200 Nigel bought this machine from Harry with the thought of changing the engine (which had a knock according to the bloke Harry bought it from), to something a bit different.. Then Nigel made the mistake of saying something along the lines of "I expect you will end up owning the D eventually". Which got me thinking A bit of a play with the wiring (The PTO switch had been badly by-passed) and the engine had a spark, and a temporary gravity fed fuel tank sorted out the fuel side of things.. Much to Nigel and my surprise the engine fired right up and sounded good with sign of any knocking sounds! The trans is a bit noisy but that may sort it's self out with a bit of use as the Big D hadn't been used in a very long time.. A few photo's for you.. And of course a video.... I hope to get an engine running and driving vid edited today, but for now here's an intro vid.. The D gets better each time she is driven. The engine always starts first time every time Speaking of the engine, a new vacum fuel pump was fitted so I could get rid of the "tank on a plank" that was clamped on the front and use the D's original tank.. The engine was also missing a cover, so I quickly folded one up from a bit of sheet steel.. Not pretty but does the job. The D's first official duty, carting some steel panels up from the scrap pile

    Ok so this is our place - half way between Crediton and Sandford. It's the whole triangle - about 2.5 acres. sorting and dragging the lambs and doing what small boys do best....riding on uncle rob's Kubota.

    Just read my L&GT magazine and found a very nice article about Gary Cribbs and his Wheel Horse tractors. He gives a very nice "plug" for Red Square! Also in the magazine is a very good article by Norman Ng on the use of a multimeter.

They must have another part number for the same spring but it is not published yet. I will guess an experienced dealer dedicated to his service would know how to get that information.     OK. It looked like I might have had some numbers reversed, so after a lot of research on what I actually have in my stable, I have arrived at the following conclusions: 78350 rear discharge deck (42") with 106635 blades (14-1/2"). 78345 side discharge deck (42") with 106636 blades (13-7/8"). These blades match the specs in the parts lists for the decks. At some point (before I obtained it) a past owner had installed the 86001 recycling kit in the 78350 rear discharge deck and continued to use the existing 106635 blades. I am not sure if this is a problem, but the parts manual for the 86001 recycling kit, as well as manuals for the 78355 and R5-42RC01 decks (which include the recycling kit as part of the deck) specifies the 14-4879 blades. My research to date shows that the basic dimensions (length, width, thickness) of the 106635 blades and the 14-4879 blades are the same, but so far I haven't been able to find anything on the LIFT of the blades to determine if it is the same. If there is a difference in lift, I should probably switch to the 14-4879 blades for use with the recycling kit and stick with the 106635 blades if I remove the kit from the deck. Several different sources (vendors of blades) list both the 106635 and 14-4879 as "Standard Lift" or "Medium Lift". These may be identical blade sets with different part numbers. The research continues!!! Thanks for all comments on this so far. Everything has been helpful.

    That harness you picked up looks great. You may need the engine harness as well if that has been destroyed also. Other than that, download the manual and carefully follow the wiring diagram. I would begin with the basic stuff like run, start, and charge, then work up to things like warning lights etc.

    If you use that tractor for mowing, you may need to readjust the mower deck. Although if the rears are larger already it may just balance the stance.

    I cleaned up the connections on the voltage regulator, and the battery cables. The problem is fixed. I thought it was going to be something more serious. I tend to over think things.

    After looking for a suitable steering wheel on the internet without success, one was made up. Lots of ready made wheels but too large, too small, near enough the correct diameter but with a rim much too thick for scale etc. A local metal fabricator advertised various scroll work items for gates, garden furniture and so on. A visit was made expecting them to have a ring rolling machine. "Never heard of one" was the reply from one staff member. He called another older person, same answer. When I asked how they made the scroll work they advertised, "We don't, we buy it in ready made from China". Chris, Mr Showman, Sutton had previously mentioned that a friend might be able to roll a ring up. Within a few days I had a 7:1/2" ring x 3/8" section. The hub is a previously drilled cap screw with the spokes from flat strip jammed between two nuts after having a bend made at the inner ends. After trimming the spokes to length and clamping down Chris welded all the joints up. Thanks Chris. I keep thinking I ought to buy a welder but it probably wouldn't get much use. Grinding the welds down was easier than expected, especially around the hub, using a Dremel. A slot was cut in the cap screw head for a roll pin which together with a nut held the wheel onto the column. Two short pieces of tube were pressed / hammered over the nuts and all the joints blended in with filler. The last photo shows the pin resting on the head of the cap screw which is the column bush. This still needs a sleeve over it to finish off. Also a cap made for the wheel center. I should have made the spokes with a steeper angle but too late now. My great grandson, pictured above, liked it anyway.

    If the choke works backwards so what. Put a sticker on the dash board up/out becomes run in/down choke. I have at least 3 that work backwards. Two i labeled...on the third it functions as an anti theft device as she won't start if you use the normal settings

    It was time to switch gears a bit. After working hard for many years to acquire a nice little collection I decided to let many of them go and enjoy something else with the family. Over the past couple of months the number of machines and attachments have been reduced considerably. With the funds I went out and grabbed another pony, that is red, still has 4 wheels, but seats all 4 in the family. Welcome to the Horse Barn a 1964 1/2 Mustang.
