Don't want to be "stoned" off this site but wanted to show you the last restoration (working tractor) I finished with a Sears Suburban SS15 which was covered but in the "woods" for 20+ years. Was totally worth the effort and the thump of the OLD B&S 15 is a Joy...... Here's some Before and Afters Everything from the carb to the transmission need work but it was and is a solid as a rock......!

Picture from Lars, our Norwegian Wheel Horse brother, preparing his garden for planting by picking up rocks . . . (Or better yet, having his spouse do it while he takes the pictures 😇).

We had some straight line winds in east central Missouri overnight that were more than the 20 year old Bradford Pear could stand. The boys opted to pull large chunks of the tree to the ravine with the golf cart because "it's faster". I opted for the C-161 because it's one of my favorites. My wife sneaked a few pics.

I found this 854 on Craigslist for $650 has plow and mower deck and is supposed to run, it has this crazy saw mill on the front of it and I am wondering if it is original. What do you guys think it is very interesting.

I spent time off and on the last few days working on Emory's Lawn Ranger. I just have to rig an old push mower tank I have until I can find a gas tank. He wanted me to take his picture sitting on it and post it up. He's planning on bringing it to the big show with us - one happy boy!!

I was able to do some storm cleanup with the boys this morning. We were able to use some of the toys to do it so it was actually fairly enjoyable. My daughter had to work today so she didn't get in on the action.

My "adopted" son called me and we talked for an hour and a half. He attended university with my daughter and he stayed at our house over Christmas break every year because the university emptied the dorms during break and neither he or his family could not afford the trip back to Miami. This fantastic man was of Haitian descent and still spoke some Creole when he got excited, so there was a little culture shock going on. Now he works in the Governor's office in Nevada on jobs and education issues and has even helped author legislation. He has the work ethic that very few possess. I am very proud of him. How many people of his humble beginnings win a post graduate scholarship to Harvard, would you think? Still waiting on a call from my daughter...................Got a text saying she would call later on................ I will be sure to tell her that my "son' beat her to the punch.

Here is what I did for the the front hitch. It mounts to the front tach a matic and the frame. It also allows me to use the mule drive for the mower at the same time. By having the setup to the side of the mule drive it still allows pulley adjustment without moving the hitch up or down. I use the hole up front for a hitch balls or a threaded rod with small weights. The platform I have used for weights to keep the front end down when I move my trailer around the yard. The other modification I did is add an alternator GM SI10 alternator to the electrical system possibly to use a winch in the future or linear actuator or other high current draws.

Actually Mike, I have a spring and/or a pneumatic cylinder that pulls the pedal up directly into reverse. For safety reasons, I do not recommend this arrangement to anyone. But for me, It works. To start the engine, the left brake pedal must be pushed, which moves the motion lever to neutral making the neutral safety switch allowing the engine to start. Then the motion is controlled with the right pedal....push down for forward and release pedal up for reverse. With very little practice, I can completely control F/N/R with the pedal. If there is any concern or indecision, simply push the left neutral/brake pedal and the tractor stops. I find I still use the hand lever when I am turned in the seat to back up to an implement or into a tight space. I have the same arrangement on all my hydros and find it to be very efficient for plowing and blowing snow in the half dozen confined small driveways that I clear. For the system to work, you must also alter the console cover to a straight slot so the motion lever moves in one plane front to rear. I also relocate the spring that normally pulls the motion lever to the left into the neutral lock position so it now pulls the lever to the rear into reverse. Not recommending..... be your own judge of your abilities.

Not dumb at all... many people are unfamiliar with the concept of the Bachtold.... it was a brush and weed mower. Mostly used as fence lines and high weeds by farmers. Originally a walk behind unit, similar to a Roof walk behind mower. The tractor mounted ones are very uncommon. Here's a couple example pictures from the brochure.... Supposedly they made these other units pictured on the second page, but I've never seen either one. They also apparently made a speed jack... or as most people would recognize... a stationary PTO for running hay elevator or bin auger or something like that. @Big-Game Sorry Ron, I was afraid of that... that you were trying to complete it by this week. I'm tied up and won't be able to get that out before you leave unfortunately. And no, I won't be attending the show. I do however have extra copies of some literature. I'll get back with you later on that too.

Looks like it has been well cared for and the seat is outstanding. Considering the fact that it is nearly four decades old I think it is remarkable.

Grandson and I stopped, asked, deal. Great '90 520-8, $200.00. Before and after pictures. Great Stallion! Horse ran but looked, well, not so great. Very glad us two stopped. Owner had purchased a zero turn. Most of the metal, a friend blasted, $0. We primed and Rustoleum Regal Red, Terry's decals, muffler "bling" eBay $20. Not shown, new donuts from Milller Tire, coarse skateboard grip tape ( ) for the footrests. More.

I have to agree with Cory that the notch is for spindle arm clearance, however, I turned the steering wheel and pulled the tire on both tractors, and the results were the same, not even close to the stop or the notch. However...the 416-H is a different story. Thanks for starting an interesting thread. There's always something new to be learned.

I got a set of those for my boy's hot rod about this time last year. I had an issue with them dry cacking pretty bad. Miller did the right thing for me as a customer. I wonder if this is why they are having a fire sale on them? They are still usable for me since I put tubes in them but don't look great.

Your engine Spec. number is correct for a C-121 and the only unusual thing I see is the solenoid, but I'm not sure what was being used in Europe at the time so it could be proper too.

Looks like you got in a little seat time... Nice to see you didn't lose the whole tree. That looks to be a real nice C-161, and you have yourself a nice piece of property there.

check the tabs on the spindle were the tie rods mount to. when you hit something hard enough or at the right angle it usually bends the tabs. don't ask me how I know this. I was backing one of my tractors off the trailer at a show and got caught between the trailer and my big D200 and knocked the toe way out. I ended up pulling the front tire for access and using a big adjustable wrench was able to get it back semi-close. I've also replaced the spindle in the past to get them straightened out. adjustable tie rods can over come the bent tab but you should get it close and fine tune it with the adjustment. eric j

Ah yes my days at Napa. On the other side of things, we had customers come in always trying to pull a fast one or "Walmart has it for this" We didn't do price matching. If they gave me a hard enough time I would remember it for the next time they came in. I had computer buttons on my side. You want a set of brake pads? List plus 10% was my favorite weapon!

Aerospace 303 is about the only protectant I've seen that can preserve vinyl and works just as well on black plastic ABS parts . I've used it for years on expensive tonneau covers and tractor seats , have yet to have one crack if it's cleaned and treated a few times a year depending upon how dirty it gets . I work my tractors hard and this stuff protects the covers very well without making them slippery or dangerous . Same with the steering wheels , it protects them from the sun damage and keeps them from splitting . The stuff was designed for marine and aviation use , that intended market doesn't tolerate products that do not work as advertised . As to those high dollar seats - the market is a bit nuts in my opinion . Yes , they were nice but prices approaching what a modern and more comfortable suspension seat costs just doesn't make much sense , other than them being original equipment parts and having the WH logo embossed into them . As to getting reproductions made - there are stamping presses now used to embossed logos onto heavy duck fabrics for jackets , ect ...I'd suspect that same process could be used to make reproduction seats , although the cost of the die is going to hurt a lot . Just like some other production startups , the first one costs well north of reality , after that the price comes down significantly . Sarge

I rechecked my axles after I was confused by Hillbilly's pic of the notch on his PTO side. My C-160 and 1267 have the notch but my 520 which does not have the original axle on it does not.
  48. 2 points
That's weird. My 160 wouldn't hit the stop if not for the notch. I lowered it to the ground and the same thing. Same with the 500 Special. Bob, what is physically stopping your steering?
  49. 2 points
Ok. Looks like Hillibliiy's pics are of different notches than Mikee's. (sent from in front of the A/C with crapatalk)
