@biged77 When i was takeing the tractor apart and cleaning it, I tore the wires out of the switch. The tractor still cranks and runs like it is suppose to, my oil switch just doesn't work. That switch that you have there, does it work cause i wouldnt mind having thta function working on mine even if it's not all that important?

You would have to rig the wires so the engine will start

@squonk It still cranks and runs, but if you tie the wires then it want start, but i guess thats because its making the tractor think there is no oil in the motor

@squonk well i keep a check on my oil, if i tie the wires that go to the oil switch together (the ones that go from the tractor to the oil switch it's self) that it won't let it turn over. ?

Your low oil switch (oil sentry) is a normally closed switch (sitting on the shelf with no pressure or force applied it is closed). If engine oil is correct the float will rise and open the switch, if it is low the switch will close. When this switch closes it activates a relay opining the connection between the ignition switch "S" terminal and the solenoid. It will not stop a running engine, it will prevent you from starting the engine with a low oil level.

WHX??

My vote is ditch the oil sentry...plug it ...  and get into the habit of checking oil frequently.  But I am with Gregor and don't have a Magnum.

@roadapples I didn't know you worked at NAPA ??? For 50 years??? Does this mean you and Squonky are blood bros?!?! :ychain::lol:

That's a great Wheel Horse. Just keep the fluids clean, keep the filters clean, make sure everything is lubricated and use fresh treated gas. Work your tractor and have fun.

I don't have a Magnum "ON" a tractor.  But it does not have an oil switch.20211021_105204.jpg.6d5e35b52aef8eb2670337d1fc10db79.jpg

Twins would not have an oil switch they had oil pressure sending units. (pressurized lube system).  magnum singles were just splash so a low oil switch was used.

I'll be glad to send it to you. PM me to work out details.  I checked the switch, it functions correctly with l-2 ohms resistance when actuated.

Be careful installing the switcn.  It has to be vertical within 4 dergrees (NC marking up) according to the installation instructions.to keep from interfering with the oil slinger.  That's why I didn't reinstall it on my M10.

I don't know much about this, but it sounds to me like this switch is right up there with balance gears.

@Snoopy11

Different on a phone.

Couple ways I can go about it.

I'll show you how I would do it from here.

Click on the name of the person.

That will open up the next screen. Their own profile page. Click on the icon that is the envelope in the middle. That opens up another page that will be self-explanatory.

The folks on Redsquare are... Incredible.

The advice and learning, all freely given.

About Wheelhorse sure, also about many many other things. Home repair. Vehicle repair. Etc....

The contributions Trina and I have received in the form of parts over the last 4+ years... I don't even know where to begin.

I bring up a piece, a point of concern, a question... Next thing I know there's a part in the mail from halfway across the country to help us complete a build or repair. For nothing. Often we don't even pay shipping.

She and I have each received a WHOLE TRACTOR from members wanting to see what she and I would do with it.

We've now done fully disassembled frame off restorations on 3, mechanical restorations on several others.

In all seriousness... I can't thank the folks here enough.

It is an absolutely AMAZING place, and the way that the questions that you ask are not just answered but explained in a way that doesn't make you fill like a dummy, and also to help you not just fix the problem but understand it. The way y'all welcome new people in is just amazing!!

Don’ let EB just say that he’s received so many things from so many members.  I have a box of 3 piece transmission guts sitting here waiting for one of the kids’ RJ58 projects… also didn’t charge me a dime.  :wh: people are the best!

I was given a 314H in trade for some work. Love the tractor but I cannot tell what Sleeve hitch adapter will fit the hydro. Will one for a 314-8 fit. What do I need to attach to the deck lift? I've read hundreds of posts on here and figured this is where to find the experts. Thanks in advance.

      Good day WH fans,

My dilemma is this, my first Wheel Horse a nice 314-h with 80 hours. Bought from the second owner with the story of the original owner. This spring I was about to service her and well I looked on the clock, it now sits at 97 hours. This WH comes from up in Maine. I have it now in southern Maryland. I hate to beat up a nice old tractor like it is sitting at under 100 hours she is just too nice to use. Or is she just another WH?

Here is the question, do I park it as surviving "under 100" hour tractor? or sell it? I would only consider selling to a collector. FYI I have both a second WH, a well-used 417-8 and would consider a trade for another WH.

Well, most of the regulars here are aware I will be relocating this Spring/Summer. I had hoped to take the remaining collection of tractors with me. However more and more it is becoming obvious that this plan wont work out for numerous reasons. As such, once I make up my mind as to which one to keep, I will be posting the remainder as well as most parts etc up for sale in the Forum Classifieds and CL.

As I hope shows in poll info, I have 2 Stage Blower, Restored 48 & 60 inch(195) decks, 54 inch blade, GT14 style Tiller and a project Sickle Bar. The Sickle BAr can likely be made to work on the GT14 style tractors and the C160.

I enjoy working on them but as I get older I may not have time or ability to do so. As such, maintenance and parts and ease of use of a single tractor are part of the equation.

A couple of these I have poured a lot of time into but I am not emotionally tied to them and I believe if I relocate back east where Grass and tractor need becomes more necessary, I can re-create them.

So help me out with my decision.

A couple pics of the beasts in question:

I have a leak on the elbow that screws into the front of the lift valve. Does anyone know how that is sealed? I looked at parts tree at it doesn't show an o-ring or seal?  The elbow is Toro part number 108365. Part #1 on the diagram. Thanks for the help.

I just discovered the belt tensioner is out of alignment with the PTO pulley and the hydro pulley so much so that the belt is riding up on the right side edge of the idler cutting the back side of the drive belt. The console cover plate has actually worn the width of the tensioner lever on the right side of the cover. It's as if the shaft was made too narrow. Has anyone encountered anything like this before? The idler needs to be shimmed over but the shaft is not long enough.

While I am on this topic why is it these tensioners are not used with the Onan applications just the Kohler? I'm thinking maybe the added resistance to turn over the bigger piston in the cold temps I don't know
      Thanks
