Power flow bagger drive pulley

Recommended Posts

Bill D

Has anyone used the double drive pulley for the power flow bagger to increase the blade speed on their 48" deck?  If I have the right part number its 110-6502.  I was thinking about using it in place of the center pulley to increase blade tip speed to be more inline with the commercial decks.  I believe it has a smaller diameter pulley on the top.  Thanks.

Doesn't anyone have an opinion about this idea?  Good or bad?  Thanks.

@Bill D haven't tried or thought of that, but I'd be interested to see how it works out.  Did you end up trying it out?

I have a pulley, but I haven't tried it yet.  I haven't had time.

I've kinda thought along the same line as this to increase the blade speed on a 42"SD on my 314-8 to archive a better cut.

I too would be interested in hearing what others have tried or any thoughts they have to share

I finally tried it out.  Works great!  It will require use of a 102" belt instead of the regular 103" belt.  Probably not the safest idea though.

That is how I am running my 48" deck right now.

Blade speed is about the same as the new zero turn mowers so I think safety is fine.

The Onan is happy running around 3000 to 3200 rpm so that is where the engine speed normally is when I Mow so the pulley change works well for me.

@Bill D  @JOHN C. what did you do to enhance / insure  bearing life ? have any  belt bounce support on , long unsupported  belt run ?  how easily does it move , from initial  engine to  unit , by hand ?  replace trunnion  , with a heim joint ?  just a couple of things regularly added , to my belt driven anything  .  no whyining  bearing noise  or belt bounce , always  testing / trying for improvement , pete

Keeping the bearings filled with Lucas Green grease.  No real signs of belt bounce.  Keeping the pivot points lubed up.  Tractor only shows 150 on the clock.  Nothing really worn out yet, so I can't justify mods to the clutch linkage.

I've been thinking about this for a while. So long as the drive pulley is no smaller than the pulleys on the 42 inch deck, the spindles won't spin faster than what they will on any 42. What will increase is the tip speed of the blades, which is desirable for increasing the quality of cut and clippings distribution- at least to a point.

And Bill you are correct: today's commercial mowers spin the blades at crazy high RPMs. My Scag sounds like I'm pulling up to a 3 foot hover sometimes. Just make sure you use high quality blades and you should be fine.

Here is my 520 with the 48" deck with the power flow bagger pulley used as a center drive pulley.

Blade speed is definitely increased but still seems well within limits.

I just got finished mowing, that is why the machine is dirty.
