Should have said the break was at a 45 degree angle so it did hold the housing down when bolted back down.

I saw one about a decade ago that a friend had where a PO had machined an 'L' bracket that fit nicely over the broken piece and clamped it down gudentite.

He's still running it like that AFAIK.

I bet I put this thing together and took it apart 6-8 times…

 

Center spindle wouldn’t take grease…

Took all 3 spindles apart and checked them. Added a hole where the grease would come out both sides of the spindle shaft.

 

Then I noticed the end bolt on the slide bar was moving… took it back apart to tighten that.

 

I got it back to where I had it before the center spindle wouldn’t take grease…

@kpinnc… I’ve been hankering to bring the boys ( 520H, and Work Horse ) up to see you and Don / @Lee1977.

 

If you can set a date that’s agreeable to you both, after the Big Show, I’ll come up there to visit, and let you two aw me with y’all’s knowledge of Wheel Horses.

So shortly after inviting myself to Kevin’s, I went out to the Custom Hot Rod and Tractor shop to piddle with the 48 inch SD deck some more…

got the deck carriage bolted on.

Somebody during the course of this thread suggested all new hardware, and I am so glad I did that… like they said… really makes it pop !

So anyhow, does anybody know if this decal goes on a 1994 48 inch SD deck ?

I need to have @Vinylguy / Terry to make me up the OPEI silver triangle…

 

What I have left to do:

1. Paint topside of deck chute and apply yellow warning decal.

2. Clean, and maybe paint the rubber bumpers that hit the floorboards when you raise the deck.

3. Install deck chute.

4. Adjust those two bolts on the front of the carriage guide brackets.

5. Shine up the rod from the carriage to the gauge wheel bar.

Can anybody shed some light on how to adjust these bolts ? Do you adjust to keep the carriage bars off the deck shell, or is it something else ?

The manual answered both your questions, (I was curious too). Shows decal locations & refers to the bolts as "Transport Level Stops"

In your last pic please put a stainless fender washer behind that cotter pin, (my OCD kicking in).  That deck is so beautiful, MUST KEEP COTTER PIN FROM SCRATCHING PAINT! LOL.

On that steeker, it actually goes on the Eaton hydro transaxle right side axle housing. Zoom in on the pic below.

Thanks @kpinnc… I had it in the wrong envelope… threw me off. No telling how long it would have taken me to figure that out. Maybe I’ll mask off the 520H rear axle and put some paint on it, then the decal…

Well I reckon since the mule drive/ front attach-a-magic runs the deck I can slide this in with the 48 inch deck restoration thread…

I wanted to repaint and “once over” the mule drive while I was redoing the deck.

 

Can any of you fellows or ladies tell me if the pulleys on the mule drive is pressed onto the shaft ?

I figured they would just slide right off.

Are they probably stuck on from brown weld, or crud build up ?

No, sorry, they should slide freely...

Yep, just brown welded.

You might get lucky by screwing the nut on until it is flush with the end of the shaft then hang on to the first pulley and strike the end of the shaft repeatedly with a dead blow hammer.

This has worked on most of mine.

What’s a dead blow hammer ?

Like a soft face (which might work also) but it has steel shot inside for more striking force.

A brass hammer might work as well.

By holding the pulley in your hand you prevent it from being damaged.

I had good luck a while back by supporting the pulleys underneath with wood blocks and shims, just high enough that the main part of the hitch assembly was off the floor.  Then sprayed a liberal amount of PBlaster on the threads (which should be at the top) and let it soak into the bore of the pulleys overnight.  The next morning I gave it one or two light taps with a rubber mallet and both pulleys slid right off.

@Blasterdad referring to your  upper deck picture during tear down , did you replace the belt tension idler pulley ? notice that was the original small bearing type , have replaced all mine with same size / type , but larger bearing with wide rubber side shields , for easy grease replacement, that pulley is known for early failure .  easily matched up on the net , hi temp grease , 560 deg , will stand up in deck bearings , they get very hot and start whining early in use , pete
